Customer service was spectacular. I had a brake failure close by and called this shop for an emergency repair. I got in mid-afternoon and by the end of the day left with the repairs done. So let me explain that I had some warning signs that my brakes were failing but the complete failure happened suddenly and catastrophically and there was a lot of damage. Ray showed me the damage and explained in detail what had happened. He also spent considerable time and effort explaining it to my husband over the phone. What should have been a terrible day turned out to be a great day that during which I was reminded what a blessing it is to receive help from a kind and generous person who is also an excellent mechanic. Went in originally for a courtesy check of my front suspension and they found the problem that Firestone missed. Subsequently went to get tires balanced and it was discovered that one of my rims was bad which was causing a vibration that was plaguing me for a while. My car is older so no one sells these rims new. I got one from a salvage yard and the mechanic (G. Martinez) who originally did my suspension check did a really good job of cleaning up the rim, mounting the tire and balancing it. I recommend this Monroe location's services. I had a bad experience at the Monroe location in Enfield, CT (I would not recommend that one at all). read more

It was suggested I head over to Monro to ask them to fix the rear windshield wiper on my Jeep after the AutoZone guy installed it backwards and couldn't get it off. I have to say, Nate and Cody could not have been nicer or more professional! They helped me without question. They knew how to fix it and did so promptly! I was so impressed! That's it. As of today, July 21st, 2016, I am done going to big name full-service auto centers. Goodyear, Midas, Meineke, Firestone, Pep Boys... you can join the Viking Funeral too. This industry's success is predicated on one thing, and one thing only: customer ignorance. They build up your trust, they hit you with huge numbers, they tell you "it's gotta be done," and you fork over half your paycheck. Two and a half hours it took before my truck even got on the rack for a freaking alignment. 15 minutes later, the service desk man comes over with the news - I'm going to need to make an all-day appointment, because the tech is going need a half a day with the truck, since I had new struts and a modest lift kit (2.5") put in. I took my truck back. Thanks for wasting half of my day. Thirty minutes later, I found myself at Town Fair (I know, big regional name, but they're actually tire and alignment specialists). $70 and an hour later, I could drive my truck blindfolded down a straight lane of asphalt. One parameter was slightly out of spec, but that's because of a frozen bolt in the undercarriage... not Town Fair's fault. The result is amazing, and that's what matters, and no thanks to Monro. read more

They did changed the break on my 2010 Honda civic EX. Then it starts making a scratchy noise everytime I break, so I went back to have then check it out. The guy there drove my car to the back, I waited for almost 1 hour without any news, so I walked to the back to see where my car is...and I found the guy sitting in my car reading the instruction manual. He told me it's almost done, ask me to wait in the front again. 5 minute later, he drove my car out said it's all set. They also charged me another $40 for cleaning something neat the break. So long story short, the car had that scratchy noise for the following week, then it went away. But it's been 2 years now, the scratchy noise comes and goes, and the break always squeaks. I thought they are a break service, but they can't even do one for a basic Honda civic. The only reason I didn't left 1 star is because the price is very reasonable and the guy in the front are nice enough to give me ale discount too. But I would never go there again. Also, I use to go there to get oil changes, I only get the full synthetic ones, I knew the synthetic usually least for 4-5k, but the insists on telling me 3k. I didn't like that also. read more

Exceptionally underwhelming experience. I went in at the noon hour for an 19.99 oil change (sign out front); apparently everyone was at lunch. They drifted back around 1 pm; and it got done, took nearly an hour, and by the time I walked out it was a $90 bill (hi mileage oil and an air filter). They checked the brakes and rotated the tires (while waiting for the air filter to show up) which was OK. The waiting room was frigid with a crappy radio for company (thankfully tuned to WNPR) - no reading material, no TV, nothing. I was hoping for a local / more pleasant alternative to the chain oil change places or pep boys; I'll keep looking. read more

These guys are awesome! This is my first time here so I am not sure if they are the same ppl the past reviewers have complained about. But they are genuinely friendly and honest mechanics. They worked on my car for an hour and a half for free and did not try to sell me anything! They were recommending free or cheap ways to patch up my car rather than pay $$ for labor and parts I didnt need when other mechanics wouldve jumped on the opportunity to charge me. To those of you that have not been to Monro Muffler and Brake of Newington, Connecticut: First, I must give you the required disclaimer - I have worked with Mr. Abbott in the past as a co-worker at a different company. But I will not let this item permit me to give a false review - I am a current paying customer at his shop, in Newington. Secondly, it wouldn't be fair to you, potential new customers. Today I purchased two new tires and also had them installed at Monro, Newington. The technician, Mr. M. Kosswig, (Mike?), was efficient, friendly and professional. The tire balance was free! I also got a free check and advise on other items - this was great for my driving safety and for the others on the roadway - Mike performed free inspection on all of the following: my brakes, struts, free tire rotation, free valve stems, air pressure on all four tires, even though only two new installed. The tire price was fair and equal to any competitor. For a little extra I got the extended road warranty on my two new tires. And much to my surprise I received a complimentary basic oil change. The current special is already at a reduced price for oil changes! The techs are professional, courteous and have the backing of a transportation professional, their manager, Mr. AL Abbott. (AL has previously worked as a manager at a well known truck service center/travel plaza. And was also a driver for Fed Ex. Lastly, he served our country, and you, for 20 years in the United States Navy! AL's shop, Monro Muffler and Brake is well kept, clean, organized and staffed professionally. You can only expect service that is above average with warranty on any work or parts. AL served our country and you for twenty years... I have been going to Firestone in Manchester for years, but something happened today that I couldn't just let sit. I punctured my tire on the way to a class, and in a panic I found the nearest service shop, which was this one. It was just past closing time, but the guy closing up happily took in my car and patched my tire up with no fuss. It was the kind of service I had to fight almost six years for to earn at Firestone, and this guy Colin didn't bat an eyelid at a first-time customer who showed up after closing, desperate to get his tire fixed. He was very friendly and patched up my tire in no time. Just like that, this place earned my business. I live in New Britain and have been meaning to find a service shop closer to home, and now I have found it. These guys are outstanding. read more

Okay. I really needed my tires rotated cause the fronts were really bad. I also needed an oil change too. Monro sent me a coupon for both with brake inspection for $19.99. Perfect! Went down there, was told an hour and a half which was okay for me cause I had time to kill. When they brought it down and had it out for me the total came to $27. The tire rotation hadn't been done and I can't imagine the brake inspection had been done either if the wheels didn't come off. I pointed this out and they brought it back in. I do appreciate that part. Right before closing too so I know they wanted to go home. Now don't get me wrong, I understand this is a service garage, but the waiting area gets a -5 on a 1-10 scale. It's very dingy and the tv is from the 80's. thankfully I have a smartphone. I for sure would not let my wife come here. I actually don't mind paying a bit more for a place with a clean waiting area and some wifi. It's back to Valvoline Instant Oil Change for me and back to the dealership for my wife which is too bad because this place is actually on my way home. I honestly can not believe someone gave this place a five star review. I can see this place being on undercover boss and would love to see what it would look like after someone from the head of the corporation spent an hour or two in the waiting room. Last but not least.... I actually would go here, but the customer service, cleanliness, and professionalism I receive at VIOC will continue keep me going there. read more

I agree with other reviews about this Monro; absolutely dishonest and unethical. I personally think they hire guys with no experience and who have little respect for other people's cars. They messed with the electrical wiring which resulted in me not being able to roll down my passenger window using the drivers side button controls. I went in for an oil change and battery terminal cleaning (which even with an appointment took them 3 hours), drove off, noticed the problem, turned back to address the issue. I was still in my car when someone came out, our conversation went like this: Me- Hiii my window button doesn't work, I was just here. Assistent manager- Let me get my boss... (a random worker approaches who is not the manager) R. W- Hmm, looks electrical..Well, we didn't go near it. Me- (Calm n reasonable)....my window opened for 5 years without a problem, in the 3 hours I left it here, its suddenly broken. I'm not sure what to do about this now. R.W- Drive with the A.C on haha :) Me-...gives angry stare.. R.W- You can always reach across and open it from the passenger side. That button works. Me- (Annoyed) Yeah, I'm not sure anyone from the 10 car pile up I cause will appreciate that... Or find it as funny as you do. R.W- ...My car doesn't have power windows, I have to crank them down, I manage. Me- Blank stare.....please get me your manager. Manager- What the problem? We did not go anywhere near your door or electrical wiring. Cars break all the time, its in their nature blah blah blah you can bring it back and we'll order some parts to fix it. Me- I understand that but..my power window button worked fine earlier and now it doesn't work at all. Are you going to charge me for the repairs? Manager- Yes, but we'll take off your door and fix the problem. Me- It wasn't a problem until you guys broke it!! *confusion and frustration* After coming home I knew they caused the problem because my clock was 43 minutes off and all my programmed radio stations were gone. The fact that they denied it and made it seem like no big deal completely put me off. They had so little respect for me and even less for my car. I went to get an oil change for an appointment Friday that I scheduled online. They had no record of it. It is now Monday and I had a 9am oil change and no one was here. It is not 10 and my car is still on the lift and 3 other cars have come in and gone. I will never come here again a quick oil change is taking forever. I hate writing bad reviews, but I doubt they know much about cars other than tire rotation and oil changes... the very, very, very basic stuff. They could not diagnose an apparent exhaust leak on my car, even after I pointed it out They were insistent on it too. I finally gave up arguing and left. Took the vehicle to the dealership and it was taken care of, a cracked exhaust manifold. How do you miss that? Anyway it was a company car and I don't care, but I would never bring any of my own cars nowhere near this place. read more

After 4 years of bringing my vehicles in to this location, I will not be back. Manager did not want to honor Monro coupon, ended up raising the prices on the invoice so the price after the 20% discount was the same as the original invoice. Additionally, the mechanic did not properly replace the weather strip under the windshield, and this came flying off as I was driving. A $500 tune up and the car now makes a new and strange sound. I had had brake work done there earlier in the year, I asked them to check on them as they were already squeaking pretty badly. They forgot to check and were rude about it when I followed up. Not worth dealing with, seem pretty shady with the pricing and the work is not well done. Go somewhere else. read more

Took my car in for a free brake inspection, was told that I needed new roters. Took me into shop and told me to fell the roter, it had grooves in it. they said something must have got in there between the pad and the roter. and need new roters. I said that i could not afford that now , but quote me a price. The price was $587.00 printed on a piece of paper from their computer. Took my car to P+B in bristol next to where I work for another opinion. I was told that the grooves in the roters happens all the time when sand or something gets in there. The brake pads are like new and the roters are good. To get an honest opinion cost me $50 I will take that over $587.00 anytime. Go someplace eles. read more

I don't even know where to begin with the horrible experience we had . I had an alternator under warranty that needed to be replaced, technician Jose never tested it until after he replaced a brand new battery and perfectly fine connectors with after market cheapies. When we questioned why he didn't check alternator he was highly offended, called us conspiracy theorists and questioned if he was on undercover boss.. finally he checked alternator and still expected us to pay for battery we didn't need. Manager wasn't there, but when we went in on Monday to pick up car, Manager told us we didn't need alternator(even tho Jose kept car Fri./ Sat to replace it) had to pay for battery and wouldn't even allow Jose to talk to us, actually cupped his hand over Jose's mouth and told him not to say a word and to return to back bays. So bottom line, we think Jose actually did the right thing by fixing alternator, but we don't really know for sure.. stunned by this behavior by a technician and a manager . read more

I have been going to this place for 5 1/2 years, basically since I moved to Newington, there have been multiple changes in management in this store, at first it was great, then there was one I did not care for, but he didn't annoy me enough to stop going there, and obviously he was also fired/transfered/quit, I don't know, but no longer there. However, the current manager (July 2018) bluntly lied to me: he said I need to do some service on my car, I said that I did it about 4000 miles ago and this isn't something that needs to be done so often, he looked up my car records and started with all kinds of excuses and contradictions as to why he said I need this serviced I don't go to places that try to take my money for unnecessary service that they already received money from me. I said that if the work wasn't done properly it needs to be redone at their expense, not mine, he, as well as customer service line that I called, claim it's outside of the warranty period. ...well. ..they just lost a loyal customer, I'm taking my business elsewhere.... It's a lot harder to find a new customer than to maintain a loyal one, just sayin read more

Unfortunately this is not the place it once was. Since it has gone through several changes of personnel, I need to go elsewhere based on what's happened to my car when there. I have a (really good) mechanic, I figure he has more important repairs than oil changes, so I look for a standalone services place that can do an oil change fast and well. Well, no more. Why? (1) finding the brake reservoir cap missing after a routine oil change (2) finding the air filter lying on top of the housing after a routine oil change (3) having a tech tell me that my brakes are worn (yup - going to my mechanic for that) and that he can't legally let me drive the car away with worn brakes (quick suggestion that the cops give their opinion solved that one), (4) having to return to Monro within 24 hours of a wheel rotation to re-check the wheel nuts (no one else working on my tires has ever suggested this) and other smaller issues. I'm looking for another place to simply get an oil change per manufacturer's schedule (which is 5K not 3K). read more

I have not once not had to wait an inordinate amount of time for an oil change at this place. I stopped going here quite a few years ago when they broke my dipstick in the car. Just gave them another chance and waited 15 minutes with one car in one bay and no one even acknowledged me. I asked them to open the other bay so that I could leave. I'll never come back. read more

Yesterday I sat here for 3 hours and watched two managers running a 6 bay shop I saw them dance 22 cars around answer phones, stop and give us customers their undivided attention. Very impressive, after reading some not so good reviews I just want to say give these guys a break, do they hit homeruns everytime probably not, don't judge them on a bad or good review come in and see for yourself, I'm pretty sure Colin and Michael would fix any problem you have with them or the service. The prices are fair, the customer service is top notch. One bad experience should not keep you away, are you always on your "A" game? Probably not. Again 2 people understaffed, give them some wiggle room if they don't as Monro says "WOW" you. Colin and Mike will make it right. Have they took me right in even with a appt.? No, its ok not the end of the world, I wait longer to see my doctor, please, I saw people lose their minds today. They will take care of you, get to know them talk to them you'll see. read more

through the years ive been with many mechanics and oil changing shops. And this is the best out there yet. In terms of know how, price and honesty. If they can only make their shop bigger, but i guess sometimes bigger might mean less personal care. I hope their attitude towards their customer will not change. believe me, i want these guys to succeed.. generally, they've been good.. but today, i went to get my tires balanced since i'm going to be making a 1000 mile round trip next week.. at first, they only balanced my front wheels.. why would you only balance my front wheels? i'm paying for balancing on 4 wheels.. what happens when i rotate my tires, do i have to come back again? come on guys!! i asked, and colin took my car back in and got the back wheels balanced and got me back on the road so i could get back to work.. this didn't need to happen.. should've just balanced all 4 wheels to begin with..
