Ambiance was what's you'd expect from a good dinner - as soon as you walk in your greeted by hello by many with a smile - excellent - for a busy location restaurant was extremely clean with plenty of seating and all tables cleared and cleaned - walls have plenty of things to admire and talk about while you look at menu, order, wait for food fun time - had the Western omelette - no pictures sorry - I received Avery clean plate with well prepared food - the omelette was perfectly prepared with exceptional technique in folding and presentation almost artistic - ingredients were plentiful - nice size ham chunks easy to eat, onions and peppers were diced to a nice size with good flavors obvious fresh - they used sliced cheese rather than shredded but still had nice flavors and juice taste with each bite sliced cheese tends to make bites a bit drier slight ding - homefries were a bit underdone for me I like my potatoes a bit soft, and could have used some salt and pepper to rid the Bland taste - coffee was decent not very acidic - waitress was extremely friendly and attentive - portions were above average and right for a diner - you can't go wrong whether alone or with a friend or group you'll have great food at a modest price with excellent service - I'd definitely recommend this place for all ages and all varying tastes play of options to please everyone - Bon Appetite!! read more

This place has been on my "breakfasts spot" list for quite some time. We were greeted quickly for our drink order and the coffee came out hot. We then ordered the French toast sandwich and the biscuits and gravy. I do want to clarify that the service was great, but I was not a fan of the gravy here. The biscuits were fresh and delicious, but the reason for my low star review was based on the dish I ate. We will for sure be returning and I'll be ordering a different menu item the next time. read more

I have been here once before, my first time going then and thought the food was good! Well, I just went recently again for the second time and was very disappointed. the bacon wasn't cooked all the way, the small egg (and I'm not exaggerating here) it was a tiny! Lol...it was barely big enough to dip my toast into the yolk before it was gone...the potatoes were undercooked; they were not brown enough! the whole meal tasted off (except for the bacon which wasn't fried long enough) The overall flavor of the meal was off putting. I don't know what they cooked the egg and the potatoes in but it did not taste right..like they used old grease maybe? Or margarine? Yuk. I didn't care for the toast it was four slices of toast which was way to much with way to much margarine (I know it wasn't real butter) it did not taste good all in all the whole experience left me sour spending money on sub par cooked food. read more

The food was really good. The traditional American food suited the environment well. This diner has a retro feel featuring many vintage clocks and airbrush wall art. The service was great as well. Yes we eat out a lot and this place is really good. First timers! Our waitress was a cute blonde and the food realllly delish. We just stopped in on a fluke headed to the chiropractor( killing time). Bf ordered the Hawaiian omelete. A pineapple in every bite! He loved it. And my taster bite was great! Love their home fries with grilled onions. We showed up at 8:30-9 and then after 9 this place is FULL!! Lots of workers having a quick breakfast before work. But we noticed all young good looking girls in here as waitresses hehe. I chose the ham n chz omelete and yummy good. Ham in every bite as well. Good flavors and the coffee never empty! I think we will try to come back if we r passing thru. So...you say that you want food that doesn't suck, and you only have 1/2 hour for lunch or breakfast? This is where you come. So far, I've never had a bad meal at the Monroe Street Diner. MSD has great hours. If you work for a living and aren't allowed to mosey your ass in at 9 am, know that MSD opens at 0600. Eat here and get to work by 7...easily. Work nights? Come in after work. The menu is reasonably extensive and reasonably creative, for a diner. The stars of the show, IMHFO, are the burgers. Hand pattied and cooked (correctly, every time) to order, they're great. Check out some of the pix for some ideas. Check out the daily specials, too. My favorite breakfast option is the BPOP...the Big Plate Of Protein...that is, the omelette. There's an omelette for every taste. I like the Philly cheese steak omelette. Sides? Get the potatoes, or skip them and get tomato slices. Get the toast, or skip it and ask for a side of cottage cheese. MSD is flexible, and the friendly waitresses are very accommodating. I'd call the atmosphere "retro inspired," rather than authentically retro. In terms of cleanliness, I wouldn't eat off of the bathroom floor, but the joint is clean...or at least it doesn't feel dirty. MSD is located in a building that originally housed a Mister Donut; it was built in the 50s or 60s...the owner should remove the front awning and show off that beautiful Mid-century Modern architecture...there's your authentic retro! In short, Monroe Street Diner isn't the most elegant eatery in this town, but I've never walked away hungry or dissatisfied. read more

My niece and I found this place while I was visiting her. We chose the Toledo area to meet as she used to live near there but she had never eaten here before. We were pleasantly surprised! The staff was very friendly and helpful and recommended some dishes as it was our first time there. My niece got the French toast (she loved it) and I got the Monroe street diner omelet. Fantastic! The only drawback is that it is a small restaurant so you may end up waiting for a table. We were lucky - someone was leaving as we came in. We just had to wait for the table to be cleaned. Otherwise, it was a great dining experience. I can't wait for our next aunt/niece bonding and shopping day so we can try more of their food! The burgers and wraps looked pretty tasty..... read more

Another hidden gem for lunch during the work week. Atmosphere is super casual, a kind of "choose whatever seat you'd like and we'll be right with you" kind of place. Our waitress was super friendly and you could tell that while we were the only ones in there that weren't regulars, we were treated with the same kind of energy as everyone else. I really enjoyed watching people come in and the waitresses already having their drinks heading to the table and calling their "usual" order in to the cook in the back. I had a chicken quesadilla, which was an excellent choice. A little spice and the right amount of toasting of the tortilla. My coworkers had sandwiches and it was probably the most I'd seen either of them eat in a while during lunch. Our waitress was always on top of our drinks the entire time and even got us refills to go before we headed back to work. MSD is one of the BEST diners in the Toledo area. Great food and friendly service. I love diners because you can get breakfast all day. But I skipped my breakfast at lunch and had a cheeseburger for lunch. YUM! I didn't realize how good their burgers are until now. My first visit. Ordered the Buckwheat pancakes (these were my dad's favorite). Ordered a poached egg on top. Cook forgot the egg so Lauren gave me a free extra one. Syrup was served in the original plastic bottle and was very sticky from dripped syrup on the outside. Interesting decor. They have over 80 clocks on the wall and Lauren gave me some history on these. Coffee was good and the cup was kept full. Lauren was friendly and easy to talk to and did a great job. After a late night and little sleep, a diner breakfast was a necessity. Luckily, this place was nearby and provided eggs and hash browns and, as another reviewer pointed out, leggy waitresses. The food was pretty standard for a place like that, but the service and atmosphere were what really made this place memorable. The decor and theme is 50s rock and roll, which was just kitschy enough to not be annoying. The other patrons were all really friendly and seemed to be regulars, having interesting conversation (I overheard a group of elderly men debating the merit of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell") and providing for a warm feel. I liked the american fries (actually hash browns, which is fine with me), which were crispy and came with a choice of extras, such as onions and peppers. The coffee was also satisfactory, but my bacon-cheese omelette was less so. Texture was rubbery, and while it was stuffed with a generous amount of bacon, the bacon was pretty bland; it added crunch rather than flavor to the omelette. I've been here a handful of times. I'm a creature of habit, something to consider when reading a review. However, my review would not have changed much between the first and tenth visit. This is a good, solid choice for breakfast in Toledo. I've never had any other meal here, so I can't tell you much about the sandwiches or meatloaf. Stopped by again for the "Monroe Street Diner" omelet. It's fantastic. Yup, I skipped the potatoes and toast to skip the carbs and had a small fruit cup instead. The coffee is a bit pedestrian, but I'd give it a B to B+, and I'm kind of a coffee snob. I know I was there early, but the food came out of the kitchen cooked to perfection almost unbelievably quickly. Waitress was kind, quick and paid attention to my station, and others, while performing routine tasks. Clean. I only bemoan them proposing changing the counter top and table tops to include advertising media - that will take away some of the atmosphere in my opinion. read more

Kinda nasty food. My skillet breakfast came out in a bowl with this grayish-brown pile of watered down "sausage gravy" in the middle. Not any sausages in it, at least none that I saw. There are clocks everywhere, which adds to the cartoonish aspect of this place. Lots of airbrushed walls, etc. My girlfriend said her meal was just blah. This place was within walking distance of my friend's place, we were staying there while in town, so the convenience we couldnt beat that. The place was pretty busy on a Monday morning after 10am, we luckily got a booth and were greeted right away. I believe our friend is a regular here, he seemed to know everyone. The menu is large, i went with an omelet and though i wasnt disappointed, I just prefer my omelets 'fluffier'. Don't get me wrong the food was good, plentiful too. Toledo continues to surprise us, because for a total piece of garbage hell hole of a town, all our food stops were delightful. Monroe Street diner received us with open arms and sat us right away. My breakfast burrito was v solid, and filled my belly to the brim. Everyone felt good afterwards, except Nick who keeps feeling sick or something. One weird thing was how all the waitresses were wearing super revealing shorts and tanktops. We're assuming that's either part of the dress code or highly encouraged by the management, and we are not really cool with that. Food was tight though. read more
