Double Grilled Cheese Monsterburger with Onion Rings

The food was really good. The traditional American food suited the environment well. This diner has a retro feel featuring many vintage clocks and airbrush wall art. The service was great as well. The only thing that was off was the onion rings. Didn't have much of an onion. I recommend the tots! Will be coming back.

Yes we eat out a lot and this place is really good. First timers! Our waitress was a cute blonde and the food realllly delish. We just stopped in on a fluke headed to the chiropractor( killing time). Bf ordered the Hawaiian omelete. A pineapple in every bite! He loved it. And my taster bite was great! Love their home fries with grilled onions. We showed up at 8:30-9 and then after 9 this place is FULL!! Lots of workers having a quick breakfast before work. But we noticed all young good looking girls in here as waitresses hehe. I chose the ham n chz omelete and yummy good. Ham in every bite as well. Good flavors and the coffee never empty! I think we will try to come back if we r passing thru. Plenty BT parking around back for our big truck too.

Painted on the door of the men's room. Mike wuz here? Damned right he wuz, and he enjoyed his food.

So...you say that you want food that doesn't suck, and you only have 1/2 hour for lunch or breakfast? This is where you come. So far, I've never had a bad meal at the Monroe Street Diner. MSD has great hours. If you work for a living and aren't allowed to mosey your ass in at 9 am, know that MSD opens at 0600. Eat here and get to work by 7...easily. Work nights? Come in after work. The menu is reasonably extensive and reasonably creative, for a diner. The stars of the show, IMHFO, are the burgers. Hand pattied and cooked (correctly, every time) to order, they're great. Check out some of the pix for some ideas. Check out the daily specials, too. My favorite breakfast option is the BPOP...the Big Plate Of Protein...that is, the omelette. There's an omelette for every taste. I like the Philly cheese steak omelette. Sides? Get the potatoes, or skip them and get tomato slices. Get the toast, or skip it and ask for a side of cottage cheese. MSD is flexible, and the friendly waitresses are very accommodating. I'd call the atmosphere "retro inspired," rather than authentically retro. In terms of cleanliness, I wouldn't eat off of the bathroom floor, but the joint is clean...or at least it doesn't feel dirty. MSD is located in a building that originally housed a Mister Donut; it was built in the 50s or 60s...the owner should remove the front awning and show off that beautiful Mid-century Modern architecture...there's your authentic retro! In short, Monroe Street Diner isn't the most elegant eatery in this town, but I've never walked away hungry or dissatisfied.

Due to their prime location, the Monroe St Diner draws from all walks of life and offers some great people watching opportunities. Hung-over? Try the Monroe Street Omelette, and make sure to get "everything" on your homefries. Today it included peppers, onions and brown gravy. Awesome.

Food was picked up and breakfast burrito had no eggs in it... seems like a normal thing to be in it. Food tasted okay but not happy

It takes a lot of work to be that miserable, cranky and grumpy…read moreWaitress hated us, hated life? Hated the job?? Just nasty And Apple crumble was BAD Bad experience.. when someone treats you that poorly, you never go back

Not sure if I expected a honey taste or a typical flaky crust taste what I didn't expect was a complete void of any taste at all. The chocolate peanut butter pie was a bit different had a basic chocolate pudding taste but lacking a huge chocolate flavor like the deep flavor in the vanilla version, shockingly it was lacking was an overall peanut butter flavor while eating the pie unlike its vanilla counterpart where every bite had the PB flavor prevalent in every bite the chocolate version the PB was glaringly absent a big disappointment, the crème topping was balanced and pleasant but thick dominating the flavor of this pie - again the crust however was surprisingly bland and tasteless. Researching menus and the pie history I believe the way it used to be done and now has changed in the past the crème topping was 1/2 the thickness and the PB combo pies had a distinct PB layer between the flavored bottoms and the crème toppings that are lacking in current versions. Past crusts were distinct thickness approx twice the thickness as current versions and a whole different color much browner which would indicate it would have the "flaky" texture you'd expect from their style of pies which currently completely lack any real texture and:or flavor...perhaps it's my batch perhaps I'm being too picky I'm not a pie eater per say but I do know my crusts and what to expect out of a beloved establishment with a rich history in pie making - remember your roots and what made you famous to begin with all the good service in the world won't win you new customers with these pies unfortunately - sadly I cannot recommend these pies for dessert it pains me to write this because I was so happy to see them rebound after the fire - was my first visit as well adding to my disappointment my mum raved about them so expectations were high but alas they failed every level this particular visit - added the picture from your own menu of what I was expecting for visual representation - bring back the past flavors and flaky crust PLEASE!!! PS: Doug & Betty thank you for your reach out and responding to my review it's nice to know owners read reviews - wish more did - I certainly look forward to coming back and giving it all another try - I generally hate leaving bad reviews but also believe in honesty and sharing good and bad, you can't improve what you don't know is wrong - Blessings

Funny, I didn't see one hill in all of northwest Ohio, much less in the place called, "Ottawa Hills." Why you gota lie? So anyway, driving through Vistula, I noticed how it has its fair share of black people. I love soul food. Who doesn't? It is ground zero for American cuisine. I googled around, some places weren't open; some other places turned out to be closed permanently. Josephine's Kitchen was alive. Now they operate on CPT, that much has to be said. You know what that means? It doesn't matter, it's all love. I got the smothered pork chops with greens and mac n cheese. I chose corn bread over the dinner roll. Pork chops was falling off the bone. Greens was right. The $15 dollar plate of food must have weighed five pounds. They feedin ppl here. The proprietress was one of the most competent and hospitable women I have ever come across.
