The building is very conveniently located - a prime spot for anyone wanting to take advantage of everything Assembly Row and downtown Boston have to offer. Great views, friendly staff, and walking distance to the T, grocery stores, shops, and restaurants make it attractive. That said, while the space is comfortable, several aspects make it fall short of the "luxury" label it's marketed under: 1. Outdated indoor and outdoor appliances 2. Basic and outdated wire closet systems 3. Worn doors and outdated aluminum / metal window blinds 4. Basic gym equipment and common spaces 5. Wi-Fi that doesn't extend well 6. Bathrooms without vents 7. Cars moving in the garage cause apartments to shake 8. Residential garage entrances are shared with the public, making access difficult during business hours 9. Occasional mouse sightings in apartments 10. Trash areas that frequently smell 11. Dusty carpets in hallways Overall, Montaje delivers on location, but the building's condition and amenities don't meet the standard of a high-end property - especially given the level of competition in Boston's rental market. read more

I've only lived in Montaje for one month, but I absolutely adore it here! I live in a one-bedroom apartment that's very spacious--it's much larger than comparable apartments in Assembly Row. Some good things: * I haven't had to turn on the AC even though the weather has been 90'+ in the last few weeks. The apartment naturally stays between 70' to 75'. * I have NEVER heard my neighbors! The sound insulation is wonderful. (I know they exist because I've seen them in the hallways.) * The concierge desk is so helpful... Some concierge members will take groceries to your door or really do anything else that's kind and caring. * The community spaces are beautiful. Common areas are finally opening up, and I can't rant enough about the sky deck and courtyard. I'm so excited for the fitness center to reopen too! So happy to be a resident here! I can also easily walk to Trader Joe's or Stop and Shop, run along the water, or shop at any of the outlet stores in 10 minutes or less. read more

Our experience of Montaje was mixed. Simultaneously awesome and frustrating. The good is well-documented. It's a beautiful, brand-new building with amazing amenities: the pool, roof-top deck, grills, workout space and the lobby area. And despite being as close physically possible to the T-stop, we (being on the interior of the building facing the courtyard) didn't hear any sounds from the train. The person who helped us obtain our lease as well (Evan) was awesome. He made the process very easy and was a great relief to us since we were relocating from Seattle. There was a lot of good while we lived there. We'd met some awesome friends in the building and the amenities are amazing. But definitely came with some frustrations. The drawbacks that frustrated me while living there: - By far the most frustrating was parking. The building staff themselves told us that they'd sold every single available parking space, which by itself isn't a problem. However, the parking isn't assigned. So when people let their friends into the resident parking area so that they can park for free (or when someone pays for one spot and parks multiple cars in there), the building has no way of knowing easily who's supposed to be there. As a result, the parking was frequently completely full even though we paid for a monthly spot. If you leave and come back after 9PM, you're lucky to find a parking space. When my fiance was sick, we came back from the hospital at midnight and had to do laps around the building to try and find parking despite paying for a spot. - The other thing that was very frustrating (and insulting at times) was how the leasing staff was behind a locked door. To approach them as a resident of the building you must go through the concierge first (who calls them and asks if they're free to talk with you). Again not the biggest issue in and of itself, but they'd once or twice said no asking us to come back later -- but they're behind glass windows. We could see multiple people in the space at their desk. Worse than this, we'd had multiple experiences where we were talking to someone from the office about an issue that we're facing and were cut short. "Yep.. yep.. uh huh. We'll take care of it." And they'd walk behind their locked door before we were done explaining the issue or asking questions. On one occasion, we'd had to come back because they'd never followed up on the issue raised. - The rooftop (one of the major selling points) was unavailable for most of the year. The rooftop first opened (after completing construction) sometime around end of June when we arrived. Sometime around fall, the building locked the rooftop to residents. When we moved out in late April, to my knowledge it still hadn't been opened back up to residents. So if you were hoping to catch NYE fireworks up there, nope. Or if you just wanted to grill and enjoy the view, understand it's limited. - I don't know if it's the building or if it was residents above us, but there was an absurdly loud banging sound that would often occur several times a night between 10 PM to 2 AM. Sometimes outside of that, but most often in that timeframe. It sounded like a hammer on metal. We raised the issue multiple times with the staff, but got no help on it. I am understanding that it's a tough problem to troubleshoot, because no staff is there during those hours, but it also didn't seem like a priority either. But my fiance having to wake up at 5 AM for work, it'd often be a pain and disrupt her sleep late at night. read more

Most people, I presume, would agree that moving is a pain. If you are like me, I have moved numerous times across the country for school, work and personal relationships. The only thing more painful than searching for the right apartment is moving there. Luckily for me, 20/20 is hindsight, and I have learned to ask the right questions, explore the right area and visit the proper leasing office. Having lived in Boston for almost three years, I struggled to move from the North-end to Somerville but I'm six months down the road, and I love my new community. Right off the back, I met this fantastic, free, and personable realtor named Kevin White. We had a brief conversation about what I was looking for and recommended this great new property in Assembly Row called Montaje. Kevin introduced me to one of the leasing agents at Montaje called John Powell. John is a young professional, and one of the most authentic and kind-hearted leasing agents I have ever met - and trust me, I have met a lot of agents. I signed the lease that same day and had enjoyed my experience thus far. My Top 5 Highlights of Living at Montaje: 1. Steps away from the Orange Line's Assembly Station 2. Endless restaurants, shopping and an AMC theater within walk distance. 3. A fantastic leasing staff and a tremendous community manager named Scot. He is professional, approachable, and accommodating. 4. The apartments are brand new, endless amenities and reasonably priced 5. It's a luxury apartment that feels like home with friendly neighbors, and all the amenities you need if you own a pet. I believe in being honest, so here are three things to consider before moving in: 1. The apartment is still under construction so be aware best is yet to come. 2. Although there is a concierge, they are not present 24 hours. 3. Parking can be tricky if you have a car. Overall, I am giving the Montaje a five star rating because the property is terrific, the people are fantastic, and the local discounts to bars, restaurants, and shopping is worth its weight in gold! Love it overall. Easiest move-in I have ever had. Loading dock is very convenient and concierges did everything they could to make things flow a smoothly as possible. Robert was great to work with. He followed through with everything as promised every step of the way and made the whole experience effort less for me. We just moved in at the beginning of the month, and absolutely love it here! There are so many great things about living at the Montaje, and we couldn't be happier about our decision to move in. Location: Being new to the area, I can't tell you it's the best location in the Greater Boston area, but I bet you it's one of the best. Within walking distance there are an incredible amount of retail shops, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, an ice cream shop, movie theater, nail salon, hair salon, cafes, etc. There's also a TJ Maxx/Homegoods, Bed Bath and Beyond, Christmas Tree Shop and Trader Joe's across the plaza. There's a nice walking path along the water, as well as a kids playground. If you need to drive anywhere, it takes no more than 5 minutes to hop onto 93. Also, there is the Orange Line T station literally right out the front door. Apartment Amenities: Brand new building=brand new everything.The appliances are top notch, beautiful and modern finishes everywhere, and even two floor plan styles to choose from. We opted for the white counter tops, gray cabinets and light floors, which you can see in photos on their website. The washer and dryer are efficient and newer models. The stove is a flat top (the best) and the oven and fridge are larger than your average apartment. Also, the kitchen storage is incredible! I'm a huge baker/cook and I still have empty cabinet space. Too funny, since when I moved out of my last apartment, the movers joked that they hoped we'd be moving into a bigger place, and it's actually 100+ sq ft smaller. Building Amenities: The gym was just completed and has everything you need to get in a good work out. Plenty of treadmills, weights, machines and even a fitness studio, equipped with yoga balls, cycling bikes, rowing machine and floor to ceiling mirrors. Not yet finished is the court yard, that will have a pool, green space and grills. The community room is also a great space to bring company, and has a theater room, pool table, conference room, small kitchen and soon will be equipped with wifi. Events/Concierge/Parking: Indoor parking is $200 a month, and private for residents. The concierge team is always friendly, and even know residents by name. Plus, they have a stash of treats for your furry companions. There are community events every week, including Mike's Pastry on Mondays, and Wine down Wednesday with wine and massages. This week they moved that to Thursday to incorporate a live jazz band to get residents to meet each other. There's also yoga on Tuesdays. Pet Friendly: Furry friends are welcome! Although there isn't a designated pet relief area (hopefully one might be in the works!) there is a pet spa being built in the garage. Also, you can walk your dog five minutes to the water and along the walking paths. I've seen a few stores that are also pet friendly. Application/Move in Process: Everything was able to be completed online, and very easy to do. The leasing agents are friendly and made sure it was an easy process. When we moved in, we did a walk through of the apartment to make sure everything was perfect, and were greeted with local beers in the fridge, a set of beautiful mugs and coupons/gift certificates to a few places in the area. Montaje is poorly managed, financially unstable, and unsafe. Even before the pandemic, there were signs the ownership is bankrupt. Turnover is the highest I've seen in any apartment building. SAFETY ISSUES: - No overnight concierge in a building that claims to have over 400 residents. - On multiple occasions, they have tried enter my apartment without the 24 hours written notice required by law. - A rat problem (large rodent traps are visible throughout the building, even in the front lobby). - An infestation of bedbugs impacted multiple floors for several months. - A structural defect that was so serious they had to tear down and replace the exterior brick walls on two sides of the building. - A major fire in the parking garage last February injured five firefighters and destroyed a row of cars (6 months later, the area is still sealed off and Greystar won't disclose what happened). - There is an ongoing issue with wood smoke from the pizza restaurant downstairs flooding the hallways. - The glass panels above the main entrance shattered over a year ago and are boarded up with plywood (they claim they're still waiting for replacement glass). - Dangerous drywall fumes flood my closets, bedroom and bathroom several nights a week (they are carcinogenic). - Running or walking at night, in the surrounding area, can be extremely dangerous (cars run red lights, cut you off on crosswalks, and people are intoxicated). LIMITED SECURITY: - All night, anyone can enter the building and roam the hallways 24/7 (delivery people and non-residents follow tenants in). - Overnight, large groups of non-residents use the common areas for parties (one group covered up all the cameras and trashed everything). - Several exterior doors are repeatedly broken and propped open all night. - Residents smoke weed day and night, 7 days week (the lease is not enforced). DANGEROUS, DIRTY PARKING GARAGE: - No assigned parking spaces and spaces are narrow (when they close the upper floor from December to April, it's challenging to find a parking space). - This is an above-ground garage with exposure to the elements; it takes 8-10 minutes to get your car out. - There have been multiple car break-ins in the parking garage because it's easy to access, dark and unattended (the "secure" section is protected by a rubber curtain anyone can push through). - A defective sensor frequently blocks you from parking your car in the resident section (you have to call a phone number they don't answer off-hours or park on the street to avoid getting towed). - White foam and black, polluted water drips from the ceiling onto your car. - Every week, my new car is completely covered in brown dust and needs to be washed. - The garage floors are covered with burned out cigarette butts, dead insects, trash, and dog feces. LOST MAIL AND PACKAGES: - Packages are frequently lost, misdirected or stolen (like an expensive cake my co-workers sent via FedEx for my birthday). - For six months, Montaje used unguarded, open cardboard boxes to hold resident mail and packages mixed together in the front lobby because mailroom was unavailable (the U.S. Postal Inspection Service says this was illegal). LIMITED CLEANING AND DISINFECTION: - The industrial carpets in the hallways are covered in dog stains (some are over two years old). - Some carpets have stains from dried vomit (one stain has been there three months). - Perpetually clogged trash chutes force residents to leave stacks of overstuffed, broken, leaking garbage bags in the trash room, where they remain for 12-15 hours (this includes bags of dog feces and dirty diapers). - No extra cleaning or disinfecting at the height of the pandemic. - Bloody paw prints on the white elevator floor that weren't cleaned for days. NO SOUND-PROOFING: - You'll hear neighbors walking above day and night, not just in the wood-frame sections but also in the tower. - Walls are paper thin -- you'll hear TVs, radios, and people talking on cell phones through the wall. - Every time my neighbors uses their garbage disposal you can hear it (on both sides) and my bathroom wall violently shakes. - You can hear water rushing behind the wall every time the residents above flush their toilet. CHEAP CONSTRUCTION, NOT A LUXURY BUILDING: - All the gas fire places featured online have been disabled for four years. - After my dishwasher failed, I waited almost 2.5 months for a replacement. - My floors are covered with thousands of tiny white specks of paint because their painter didn't use a drop-cloth. - In addition to big dents and scratches, my vinyl floors were not installed correctly (several sections are buckling). - This the only "luxury" building I have ever lived in that refused to put up holiday decorations last year to save money. Though the price is pretty close to astronomical, the building staff here and the general quality of the amenities are among the better (maybe the best) in this area for the price range. The staff seem to genuinely care about the quality of life in the building and the amenities, and have been quick to address issues that arise (i.e. noisy or inconsiderate tenants). The gym, pool, and other public areas are well-maintained thanks to the service staff, and I have found the living quality in the building worth living in the otherwise sterile-feeling, shopping-only Assembly area. Trader Joe's being nearby is a huge reason why I've stayed as well. read more

So I currently reside in Boston (West End). I come up on lease renewal for 11/15. I honestly am paying top dollar to be in Boston but with the Pandemic I have little to no access to all that Boston offers including Nightlife, Bars, Restaurant, Shopping, theater, movies, sporting events etc. My current building had the nerve to increase my rent meanwhile there amenities are not open and people are moving out of Boston in droves. I decided to take my search to Boston and the surrounding areas. I looked at over 15 buildings during the course of a few weeks and stumbled upon The Montaje in Assembly Row. Wow way more affordable than Boston (Savings over a $1000 a month on rent), but so much to do. Actually more lively than Boston and I can have a car too? I met with Danielle Bertulli the leasing manager and she was amazing. She made the whole process so easy and the transfer etc. I was able to take advantage of some great move in incentives and I couldn't be more thrilled to call this my new home. Unpleasant experience. High price, low value. Have found many, many places with more and better managed amenities for far lower price. Rude members of the leasing office that have made the experience unpleasant. Good soundproofing, nice amount of space, and decent apartments, but nothing special enough to pay the prices. Also, if you're dissatisfied, the costs are prohibitive to terminate lease. Also, the leasing office lies about things like the price of parking, which they can adjust if they decide based on their attitude towards you. I highly recommend you stay away. read more

Just moved in here last week & so far it's been an awesome experience. Everyone from the leasing team (shoutout to Liz, John, Danielle) to the manager Scott to the maintenance staff & security team is friendly and professional. Our apartment is beautiful with new appliances, in-unit high efficiency washer/dryer, lots of natural light, a walk in closet YESSSSSSS and all new fittings/finishes. I've attached a few pictures of the place before we moved in. The building is still under construction but there's going to be a gym, pool, etc. plus it's literally across the street from the T - amazing! Our move was amazing (rare for a move)-- the team had movers to help us, mimosas, snacks... the works. They even bought us lunch and gave us a welcome packet with essential goodies like toilet paper, hand soap, dishwashing soap, paper towels, etc. and B E E R! If you're looking for something along the orange line that's affordable and has a lot of great amenities & wonderful staff, this is the place! Also the location is at Assembly Square so it's a great little development/neighborhood. And lastly it's PET FRIENDLY including doggies!!! read more

We love our beautiful apartment with a view of Boston! As for the apartment itself, beautiful high ceilings, walk in closets with lots of storage, and tons natural sunlight. The kitchen has a lot of storage and counter space with modern finishes and top of the line stainless appliances. The in-unit washer and dryer are energy efficient. The modern baths have beautiful back-lit mirrors and deep bathtubs. I was worried about having neighbors above/below and living next to a train station because I am a light sleeper, and any/every little sound wakes me. I have been living here for a few months and I never hear my neighbors or even the train for that matter, and have had some of the best sleep in a long time. The leasing, concierge, and maintenance staff all are so professional, helpful, and friendly (shout out to Scot, Danielle, Liz, John, Mike, and Adeline). The building offers residents parking and the MBTA is right across the street. At Montaje we have access to some of the best retail shopping and restaurants right outside our door as well as a gorgeous courtyard with a pool, gym, yoga studio, residents lounge, maker space, and the soon to be roof deck. If you want to live in an area smack dab in the middle of craziness no parking not enough street lights total congestion then this is the place for you. There is no I repeat no assigned parking spots Oooooh big whoop the disgusting orange line trains take you into town. I don't take the train so it doesn't benefit me at all. The building is unfinished and the staff is not flexible to your needs. I was approved for move in of 1500 and a "free" month. Then the infamous credit check came .... instead of 1500 it went to 5100. Took a studio that was totally out of reach because I had already gave a move out date to my former landlord. Assembly row is nothing but a tourist trap , it's constant construction in 1 square mile makes it hard to drive to walk. If you want to be rent poor but can brag about high life living, then the montaje is the place for you. It's still Somerville overcrowded over populated and over priced. The Montaje Apartments have been the best choice I have ever made. After being given a tour by their wonderful Leading Manager, Elizabeth Cox, I instantly knew it was the place for me. The environment, staff, and residents are all so very friendly and there is always a positive vibe in the building. With numerous events and social parties, residents are encouraged by staff like Elizabeth to socialize and get comfortable in their living space. Without the help of the amazing staff, I would never be this happy. I love the Montaje Apartments and everything they have to offer. From beautiful studios, to rooftop decks, and pools, there is never a dull moment! Elizabeth made the decision easy and never made me feel pressure to make a choice spontaneously. I have rented many apartments throughout the years, and by far my experience at the Montaje Apartments in Somerville, MA has been the best. From the moment I walked into the leasing office and was greeted by Danielle, I knew I was in good hands. Her professionalism, knowledge, and enthusiasm were outstanding. She safely, expertly, and patiently got my mom and me through the construction so that we could see the model, various floor plans, and location of various apartments in the building. Danielle listened to and understood my needs and found the perfect apartment for a move-in date that worked with my schedule. The online application process was easy, and since I was in town only for a few days and without a laptop, I was able to apply right in the office. The approval time was the quickest I have ever experienced. I left the office at noon, and by 4PM that same day Danielle called to say I had been approved. Everyone I met in the office was very friendly and helpful. I looked at other new construction apartments in the area and for my needs, the location to the train, stores, restaurants, and the high end apartment finishes that Montaje offers can't be beat. read more
