I have lived at the Greenhouse for almost a year. The location is perfect and the views from the apartments are beautiful. The staff at the place are all incredible; extremely pleasant people and helpful at all times. I love the concierges in the building, they are all very friendly, and so are the people that do all the maintenance. The leasing office is crazy busy, but the ladies there always go out of their way to be helpful. The only thing that I dislike are some of the young people that live there who aren't very respectful and don't practice common sense. I'm happy I live there. read more

We spent the month of August at The Greenhouse Apartments. Concierge staff was excellent, Johnny, Kevin, Eric etc...were professional & helpful. Building is secure, fob is needed to acess inner doors and gym. When we moved in the disposal was leaking, Kevin came up, checked it out and maintenance was up within an hour to replace it. The maintenance staff are always painting and working on various projects. The gym is cleaned daily and had enough equipement/machines for a good workout. The pool area is clean and very pleasant. The patio out back is very nice for reading etc...Myles at leasing office was very helpful! Location convenient to groceries, T, restaurants and shopping. One item to take note of, there are a lot of students residing in the building. read more

This is an interesting place to live, and overall I would recommend it. To start with, the location is incredible. Situation directly across from the Christian Science Plaza and literally two minutes walking from the Prudential Center, it is prime real estate. Additionally, its proximity to Fenway, Newbury, and South End (reasonably walking, 15-20 minutes, 5 minutes in a car) make it pretty awesome to live. The building itself is interesting, both good and bad. Management seems to try/cares. The building itself is frought with students, and that carries all the inherent dorm shenanigans, noise , and move in/out antics. The building policies reflect this as such. 1) there is a beautiful rooftop pool, open 1030 AM to 730 PM from Memorial Day to Labor Day. This year they extended it an extra week, which was thoughtful, with limited hours. However, you are not allowed to have drinks or music at any time. I understand crazy partying being less than ideal, but when you're scolded for playing music and having a beer and you're the only person on the deck...that's ridiculous. 2) there is a gym that is pretty well equipped. It's no Equinox, but it saves you a gym membership and it's pretty robust. However, beware that the hallway leading to it smells of frozen tattertots consequently. This is from the restaurant on the level below. Not a big deal on my trip there, but I would hate to live in that floor. This is the North Tower, 1st floor. 3) you are not allowed to have duplicates of your key. No matter your age, profession, income, or responsibility. You are treated like a child in a dorm. 4) there is an outside patio that is for common use, It is quite, nice, and reserved. Great perk. Not allowed to have a grill. If you're lucky to have your own private patio, you may. If you are management, you can use one. But the commoners? Out of luck 5) the security staff is highly hit or miss. Day staff is nice and pleasant, some on the night staff really have a stick up you know where, or just couldn't give a damn 6) there is parking in the garage below. Again, half are great, half just sit around playing music or ignoring you until their supervisor walks by. Oh, and cars get dented. Mine twice, and from what I've heard, it's not infrequent. They owned up to it, but something to consider. Rate is 270 per month, 10 dollars for the inital card fee. 7) there is a library and common kitchen. Its clean, nice, and has a TV. Good little spot, no complaints 8) constantly under renovation while I've been here. It's a nice tough. 9) laundry is readily available, room on each floor. Requires a card which can be purchased in the lobby by the mailboxes for 5 dollars. It's 2.50 for a load to wash or dry. In summary, it's a great location and has a lot of merits. There are things to consider as listed above. The going rates for apartments are pretty steep. It would be great to be treated like an adult and not have the limitations as noted above, but if you can live with that, would recommend. read more

The Greenhouse is divided into North and South Towers but this review is for the South tower where I've lived for 2 years. Pros (in the order of awesomeness): 1. Hot international eye candy. 2. Rooftop "pool" (aka communal tub) with a derriere kicking view of the city. 3. 24 hour Shaws nearby (this Shaws sells beer, wine and liquor until 11 pm !!!!!) You read it right that's 5 !s 4. Lower level garage with Valet parking ($240/month for residents at the time of this writing) 5. Walking distance to NU, Berkelee College of Music, Cheesecake Factory, P.F. Changs, Coldstone Creamery, Prudential Mall & Food Court and the list goes on... 6. Stumbling distance from most bars in the Back Bay, South End, Prudential and Copley area 7. Complimentary mini gym for working out your fitness. We are talking about a few treadmills, ellipticals and some free weights. This would enrage any meathead but should suffice for the average person nonetheless. 8. Laundry room and trash chute on each floor Cons (in the order of disappointment): 1. Drafty windows makes you feel like wrapping yourself in newspaper to keep warm during the winter time. 2. The best part of waking up, is the sound of traffic outside if your windows are facing Huntington Ave. 3. Dusty central air. If you collect all the dust bunnies together, you could use them to make yourself a sweater and then some matching sweatpants. 4. Elevators are under renovation at the time of this writing but they used to break down all the time. 5. Sound is not very well insulated in the apartments. In summary, this place is cheaper than Avalon Residences but you get what you pay for which is the location. Great for singles and students and better if you are both. read more

My wife and I enjoyed living here, largely due to the convenience of the location (close to Green Line and Prudential Center) and the ease of living (elevator, front desk, gym, etc.). Garage parking underneath the apartments was also convenient and well-priced, and we used the spacious gym quite a bit. Pet-friendly is a plus and not always easy to find in the area. Johnny and Kevin at the front desk are some of the nicest people ever -- it was honestly great to see them each day. We also worked with Kim in the leasing office, who was beyond excellent. The business office was usually effective, but a little rougher to work with at times. In terms of cons, the common areas and hallways could use some updating, but our apartment was fairly nice. The pool deck was nice as well, but could stay open slightly longer in the year (even if the pool itself is closed). All in all, we enjoyed our time and would recommend staying here. read more

I live in the Greenhouse apartments since february/14 and I do not recommend living here, unless you are okay with: - smelling marijuana everyday in the hallway - cigarette smell everywhere - extremely unfriendly neighbors (they are usually 18-24 years old). - loud music during day and sometimes during night time - maintenance having the key to your home and crushing into your apartment without asking your permission first (they simply open the door because they need to check something in the electrical system, and they do not care if you are sleeping, if you are naked or in the toilet, they simply shout "I am coming in!" It is an excellent location but rent for a 2BD costs over 4000USD.. seriously, it is not worth the price! read more

This place is a joke, a disgrace. I was told the exterminator was supposed to come here. No signs there was one ever here. This is unacceptable! Not even a mouse trap for an attempt to solve this issue. It's been 6 days with us and my dog living with at least one mouse. When I reported this issue 6 days ago I was given an attitude by the concierge. I will now being calling a 24hour exterminator and let's see if Greenhouse will reimburse me. Correction, i called and they actually won't come out because I live in an apartment building. If my dog ends or I end up sick because of this I will be getting an attorney. I strongly feel the only people who leave a higher rating for this place are college kids and have no other experience and they have no other experience to compare it to. read more

One of the best apartments I've been at. Great location, friendly staff, and very clean! The apartment comes with an indoor gym, clean laundry units on every floor, and even a rooftop pool. The price is a bit high, but that's because of the high standard of quality. There's someone at the front desk 24/7 and very secure. Overall would recommend to check out. read more

Lived here for a while now and I think it is great. Renovations have been coming along with work only during the day while I am at work. I sleep fine and have no noise complaints. 24 hour security is a plus as is the concierge service for packages and whatnot. Pool is great with amazing views. Gym is well equipped! Cannot beat the area with delicious restaurants and bars all around. T access is so close as is Whole Foods and Star Market. Pricey, but that is expected considering the area. read more

Please Don't Live Here! This is literally the worst place to live. The concierge team is amazing and are some of the nicest people I've ever met but the management is horrible. I moved out over a month ago and notified the energy company. I just received a $100 bill from the energy company because apparently Greenhouse is still billing me for an apartment they cannot fill. My biggest complaint would be that they went to replace my windows with "more energy efficient" windows but then did not follow through and left me with a pane of plexiglass for a year. When the plexiglass cracked they came by to "fix" it and just duck-taped the glass. Everyone I interacted with on a day to day basis was extremely nice and I feel like the blame was solely on upper-management who are very profit focused and know that the majority of tenants are interested in short-term stays. read more

The staff is consistently excellent, from Johnny at the concierge desk to Leslie and Ed in management, as well as the always helpful maintenance folks. Everyone definitely goes above and beyond. It's a cost-effective, friendly environment in a great location. I enjoyed the Greenhouse's amenities, which are currently being further upgraded. I lived here from Fall '06 - Fall '08 to be closer to college. Pros: - The green line is literally a two minute walk away. - 24-hour Shaws and 7/11 are also a two minute walk away (I really miss them...sigh) - The floors are carpeted in most apartments (I hate that old, warped, rotting hardwood that seems to be in every apartment realtors show you) - There is 24-hour security - You never have to worry about UPS or Fedex posting those little "you weren't here so we'll have to return this" notices because all packages are taken care of. - there is a pool open on the roof during the summer! - The apartments are well maintained and pretty modern. They won't have that rundown feel that so Boston-area apartments do. - It it is in a very safe area - you will feel comfortable walking back to this bullding at 3:00 a.m. - Great views from pretty much every side - Never had a problem with the heat or AC - laundry rooms on EVERY floor Cons: - It is EXTREMELY noisy if you live in the front of the building (not so much in the back) The security will let resident vehicles blasting music at 23,000 decibles just hang out in front of the building at 4:00 am in the morning - Many Berklee kids reside here, and they need to practice at some point - I had a drummer and an opera singer on my floor. They were really good but....you get the point - Because it is 90% students, be prepared for the drama. I have seen: huge culture-clash brawls outside the entrance, plenty of apartment fires, the cops have showed up on my floor a few times, a fair share of violent relationship disputes I've overheard, glass bottles have been thrown at people from several stories up. I even witnessed a fired staff member have a nervous breakdown in front of the building and try to walk into on-coming traffic to end it all. (I had a prime view of that infamous entrance) This place brings the dramz big time, more than your average college setting. - Laundry is CRAZY expensive. I think it was 2 bucks a wash, 2 bucks a dry when I left and that was two years ago. - The rent is no joke and keeps getting higher...and there are no studio options for people who don't need these sprawling, pricey one-bedrooms. - I have no use for a gym. You don't need a gym to stay in shape. If you are one of those sans-gym people, keep in mind that its presence factors into your rent. read more

I have been a resident for nearly four years. Currently, I am seeking a new apartment for reasons I'll soon give. But, to be fair, let me tell you the positives about this place: First off, the location is great; right across from the Prudential Center and safe. Nearly every taxi knows where the Greenhouse Apartments are without requiring an address, and the view from the windows are nice. Secondly, public washers and driers are on every floor in the hallway. There is also an ATM for your convenience in the lobby, as well as concierge service, and your mailboxes are all indoors. Thirdly, though I don't use them, there is a swimming pool, a tiny gym, and a tiny library. There is a business office, and management is on site, and you even get cute little apartment newsletters in your mail. Staff is polite when speaking to you. Lastly, and this is my favorite positive thing, they have a resident website where you can pay your rent online, request maintenance, contact offices, etc. So, I appreciate all of these things. However... "We are sorry for the inconvenience" This should be the motto of the Greenhouse; you'll be reading this line a lot in the form of little white notes under your doors. You see, nearly every other week some appliance is out of order; this is due to frequent upgrades, system checks, maintenance (because everything here breaks quite often) or what have you. Therefore, you will very, very often be without heat at certain times (awful when it's cold) or without water for a couple hours (forget your morning shower before work) or without air conditioner (hot!) and the list goes on. You'll find that if you vacation out of state for a month, as I did once, you'll return to a whole pile of these little white "sorry for inconvenience" notes on your floor; it will make you laugh, though. Now, what won't make you laugh is the elevators always being out of order; this will be no laughing matter when you must climb nine or eleven flights of stairs to get to your floor (if you have bags or suitcase, it's nearly impossible). Now for the catastrophes... There are two tower buildings in The Greenhouse; the North Tower and the South Tower. A water pipe has busted in each tower (South first) and recently the North Tower, completely flooding the top floor apartments. Which brings me to my complaint about maintenance. Trust that you will not have much privacy at this apartment; did you think you were entitled? At all the other apartments I've lived in, maintenance had to request permission to enter your apartment, and they were only given a key by the main office when you gave permission. At the Greenhouse, they all sport keys to every apartment, and they enter at their leisure. Several times, maintenance has barged in unannounced (I could be in the shower, or still sleeping) and when they see that I am indecent or irritated, they just continue on with their business, without giving even me five minutes to collect myself. They will even waltz into your bedroom, bathroom, or living room without permission (while your standing right there!) They will move your stuff, hence go through your personal things without permission, too. We had a maintenance guy even barge in about two years back when I had a guest visiting who was in the process of putting on her clothes; I went to the office to ensure this would not ever happen again, but only got a tongue-in-cheek "sorry for the inconvenience.." by a staff member who obviously saw no problem with the situation. Other times, you are warned that maintenance will be coming in on you on a certain day at a certain time (your told when to expect these guests, and tough luck if it's not a good time for you) In this way, they treat the apartments like they're prison cells; you don't feel like your own room belongs to you. The white notes will even tell you that it is "okay" if you are not at home when these surprise guests show up (cause they all have keys). So, in other words, you are simply obligated to trust strangers with your stuff. read more

Avoid at all costs. I've been living here for three years and I've only seen a decline in the services provided. They are very inconsiderate with a ton of demanding "renovations" that they need to come into my apartment for. After they renovate whatever they **** need, they leave the place a mess that I need to clean up. Now the there's something wrong with the A/C pipe and we can't get any A/C in this hot weather. Stay away! The building promises decent amenities and the location is great, but the leasing staff is extremely unprofessional, greedy, and catty. They do not return phone calls, acknowledge emails, and have been avoiding returning our money for several weeks. After being "promised" an apartment at a decent price and even receiving a bonus offer for applying, we waited for 4 months for them to contact us. We finally contacted them and were informed of a complete staff change. They claimed they weren't aware of what the previous staff offered us, but still assured us we would receive an apartment. After several more weeks of silence, they emailed us informing that they could offer us an apartment with a move-in date weeks after what we applied for and way out of our price range. We called and emailed their offices several times and did not receive any replies until weeks after. They somehow "misplaced" our refund request emails (plural). Every time you call, you speak to a receptionist that doesn't seem to know her own name who then connects you to who you're trying to reach (or their voicemail, actually). If you've seen their offices, you know that they are all separated by clear walls. Clearly calls are constantly screened by whoever you're trying to reach if the receptionist tells you they are in but they never pick up the phone... This company should be ashamed of themselves. Their primary audience is students and the fact that they hold on to hundreds of dollars with no plans to complete a service is ridiculous. I have worked in many office settings and can tell when people have had zero training in customer service. Greenhouse is one such place. read more

The location is perfect being in the middle of the city and is a safe place due to the helpful concierge! I've been a resident at the Greenhouse Apartments for two years now and would NOT recommend living here. Even though it is a non-smoking building, it always smells of cigarettes and marajuana. There's always music blaring from a neighboring apartment and people feel the need to pull the fire alarm about once a month for what always seems to be no reason at all. I received far too many "we're sorry for the inconvenience" emails in my two year stay. Any time maintenance enters the apartment they're extremely rude and do not treat the space as someones home. For example, we received an email two days prior notifying us that new windows were going to be installed in our unit. The installation took three days (to replace four windows) and the place was left a total mess. Curtains weren't hung, furniture was not put back, dust was everywhere. The apartment also flooded twice in five months. We had to fight to have the carpets replaced (hellooooo, heard of mold?). During the installation we were told we were "lucky" to receive the new carpets. HA thanks for being so generous! Overall the staff is not friendly. Any time I had a question I felt like I was an inconvenience, even had one man at the concierge desk roll his eyes at me, that was nice. And on top of all this, they lost my rent check last month. Needless to say I will not be resigning my lease with Greenhouse. Not worth the money or hassle to live here!!!!!! read more
