The leasing office are the biggest scammers I have ever come across in my life and they should be ashamed of themselves. I have never seen such bait and switching nonsense and money grubbing. This business is a scam. Period. The more I think about it and experience all the shadiness going on here, the more upset I get. I fully believe this place is an unethical business -- surpass the fine line of marketing/advertisement by stepping into the false/scam/deception advertisement, where they just tell whatever you want to hear when viewing the premise. Once signed the lease, you start to find out whatever they advertised or claimed initially was actually unsupported. And we're not talking about one misinformation--we're talking about EVERYTHING! You actually have to pay for your own closet shelves (the maintenance team told me leasing agent outright lied about such being free, construction sound is actually disruptive (see other Yelp reviews and 3rd party reviews on this infamous topic--we were lied to about it being completed within a short period of time? Never happened. The tenants who couldn't take it anymore, and chose to leave did NOT get discount or anything; they simply had to pay for breaking the lease... is that fair? Especially after being tricked to sign up for this said Lease Agreement. I had 4 neighbors on my floor--all left within one year and chose not to renew the lease--with some quick research, you will see completely amazing reviews elsewhere, i.e., where the management actually cares about appeasing the tenants. Devonshire, you're in a hospitality business selling your luxury apartments, DID YOU NOT KNOW THIS? Apartment seekers, go elsewhere. We have lived at the Devonshire for five years. It is a safe, clean building that was fantastically run by a kind man who really looked after residents. Since Bozzuto has taken over, that has gone out the window. There is construction noise constantly, sometimes so deafening we can't hear each other from a few feet away. At $4k+ a month, I expect Bozzuto to do something to make up for the inconvenience. Taking a percentage off the rent would have been a good start. The staff are generally very nice, but very little mask compliance by the front door staff during COVID-19. Changes to the administrative tasks have been horrible. Residents frequently wait three hours to a full day to receive packages because Bozzuto management overloads the package handling on one staff member. He's a really nice guy who deserves better. The apartment itself is just fine. Secure and comfortable. Air conditioning and heat work very well. However twice now black mold has grown under our floors and is rapidly spreading. My husband has a severe mold allergy and even I am starting to feel unwell. Most recently maintenance visited us four days ago and assured us they would be in touch about a repair. As of this writing, there has been zero communication. We have loved living at the Devonshire for all our years here but it seems that it's joined the march of developers cutting corners and charging excessive rent. We won't be renewing our lease. UPDATE ON REPAIRS: We have now been forced out of our apartment for nine days. Management has put us in a guest apartment which has cost us a ton of money in groceries and supplies. There wasn't even soap provided for us. This is day three of management and maintenance assuring us that the repairs would be done today. I just walked in to find that the repairs that originally took place in the hallway have now extended to our bedroom. During a pandemic we've now had workmen handle our dresser, bookshelf, and most disgustingly our *bed linens*. Communication has been like pulling teeth. No updates when promised, no repair progress as promised. This is pathetic. DON'T MOVE IN until someone else takes this place over because Bozzuto is a joke. read more

Devonshire has AMAZING views and finishes within the units. The apartments and amenities (except Lobby) just went through renovations (finally stopped). The pool on the 42nd floor isn't open yet but will be really nice. Concierges and staff are really nice if you ask them for anything. The leasing/management office has improved in the last 6 months. The location is amazing, you'll be within walking distance of everything. You can walk to Seaport, North End, BackBay, Cambridge and have so many food options nearby. I wrote a negative review almost Fall 2020 after poor transparency and care from corporate (Bozzuto) and the leasing office. However, in the last few months, they have improved a lot on communicating with residences, organizing events, and having everything run smoothly. **If you are in your 20s, beware that most neighbors won't be, quiet hours are at 9 pm. read more

When I was considering which apartment I wanted to lease in May 2021, my main needs were decent size, downtown location, and access to a pool. The leasing office ensured that the pool would be open by end of May 2021, so I was excited to sign. The pool was not opened until February 2022 - 9 months later into my 15 month lease. When I approached the leasing department on this matter, they stated that it was not explicitly written in the lease so it is not a breach and there is nothing they can do about it. So my recommendation is do not listen to a thing they say. Assess the building as is and if it does not live up to your expectations as is, do not sign regardless of what you are told. read more

Devonshire is the absolute most bang you can get for your buck in Boston. It's real luxury (not like these new trendy apartment buildings with paper-thin walls). My wife and I have lived here for two years and have only good things to say about it. Excellent amenities, a great community, and responsive building management. This is the first place that I have lived where I thought everyday, "I love this place." Here's what I love: The Gym/Top Floor Fitness - They have an actual gym that is spacious enough to workout in, a yoga studio, and an indoor lap pool that is rarely in use (I swam laps during the first snow storm of the season). In addition to this they have professional workout classes everyday of the week except Friday. There's yoga (which I haven't done) and strength/high-intensity interval training type classes (abs Monday, lower body Tuesday, upper body Thursday and full body Saturday). I go to the strength classes pretty religiously. Colin, the owner of Top Floor Fitness and instructor for the strength classes, is excellent with correcting form and pushing you to get a good workout. The classes are also a great way to meet other people in the building. Culture - Devonshire seems to be very effective at cultivating a good culture. They hold seasonal parties, with a wide-range of people. The building is normally quiet. We've met and become friends with a lot of young professionals and expats (but there are also older people and empty nesters). The leasing office and people at the front desk are always nice, helpful and very responsive. Building Management - The building is very clean--I've never seen any bugs, mice or anything. There have been a few occasions in the past where I needed to call maintenance. They've always been quick to respond and the issue has always been resolved pretty immediately. There was one occasion when I smelled marijuana coming through the vent in the bathroom. Not wanting to make a huge deal about it, I emailed the building manager. He responded immediately, told me it was being looked into and told me to call the front desk if it happened again--it never did. When we first started looking around Boston for apartment complexes we looked at a lot of places. The major impression I got from most of the other complexes was that they were interested in churning people in and out; they'd lure you in with a good deal and then raise your rate extensively when your lease came up for renewal. I held out writing a review for Devonshire because I was curious how much our rent would go up. For the first year we had a very modest rise (less than 3% increase) and the following year there was no increase at all. I guess they want their tenants to stay. Bait and switch. Atrocious security, only half the amenities open, and an unresponsive front office. I decided to rent at the Devonshire based on the amenities available. This included an indoor pool, an indoor play place for children, a very nice gym, and office space. Since moving in, the only amenities open are for adults. As the weather turns chilly, the building only sees fit open those locations that are geared towards their older residents. I feel very much like this was a bait and switch, because when I had called originally the answer was that these amenities, specifically for children and or geared to children would be open. The building is situated in downtown Boston. Which is Fantastic location for anyone living and working downtown, just don't expect your $5,000 a month for rent to actually earn you a call back once you've signed the lease. read more

Lived here for a year. A month in there was a massive pipe burst and they had to rip up all the flooring for a month with little notice. The replacements were done haphazardly. Absolutely did not like management. They would email you about complaints and threaten to evict without discussion. I have a service animal (which was discussed when signing the lease and included in my application) and they emailed me 4 months in threatening me because they "just found out". I was woken up in the middle of the night multiple times with noise complaints (I was asleep and the building is made of concrete?) just to find out multiple people on my floor were getting these complaints. They once forwarded me an email from another tenant with the other tenant's information in it?? And the front desk has an email tab labeled "bad bad BAD tenants". The amenities were always under construction one way or another and their "monthly events" frequently got canceled or had stipulations. Couldn't get a reservation for the freight elevator either time I moved, but it doesn't matter because the parking situation is abysmal and outrageously expensive. They've been doing renovations all over the building since last year, and will not finish until 2022. Now with COVID 19 going around and my office requiring staff to work from home, everyone in my meetings can hear the loud construction noises. (Note: Management does offer shared space to work, but this obviously is not an optimal solution to have every day.) You sometimes also get to smell the turpentine or glue or whatever it is they use for the paint and/or in their flooring. This building is in a good location and management is attentive (kudos to Michelle). However, given the chance to do this all over again, I would have left the building and probably consider coming back after the construction is over. read more

Since management was changed few years ago i had only troubles. Starting with the absurd request of no more than 2 guests in my own house when Boston was already hosting 6 people in the restaurants at same table. And each guest needs to be logged in a portal that is completely against the rights for privacy. All for a rent of 4000$. Lastly before finally leaving, at the end of my lease, i was ask an amount for half month that was 500$ higher than what was due. When I pointed it out they said was a mistake. The math behind it was stupidly simple and seems weird that a manager could get it so wrong. On leaving now comes out that there is a damage to the floor and they pretend 570$ for it. When from photos and pictures is clear that is just standard wear and tear of the floor. On top of this they forgot of a credit I had accumulated. Again they say is an error. Good to be out of it. Overall the building is old and little amenities. A pool that is publicized since 2 years but that was never operational. Terrible experience!!! read more

Steps from the Boston Common, the Water, and in the heart of the Financial District... the Devonshire is one of the best located buildings in the City, especially if you work Downtown. Beyond the incredible location and first-class amenities, the staff here are wonderful. Everyone has a positive and upbeat attitude and are always warm and welcoming... it feels as familial as a high-rise building can be. They remember the little things about you. Lastly, the leasing office staff (Svetlana and Michelle in particular), make every concerted effort to make your living experience spectacular. With thoughtful and curated resident events, and a staff that works to ensure any unit work (construction, things breaking, etc.) are done effortlessly and at any time of the day, you really could not ask for more. There is so much construction noise within the building, particularly above my unit, that it is very difficult to carry on with anything even with earplugs on. This is especially bothersome since I, like many other residents I'm sure, are working from home. The noise (e.g. - hammering, drilling, etc) would get to be so loud that I'd often find myself with no choice but to leave. This has been going on for months and the noise typically starts before 9 AM and continues past 5 PM. I should've been told that there would be construction noise impacting my unit so that I could've made an informed decision about whether to rent here. I've been here 7 months thus far and I am just counting down the days until my lease ends. read more

I moved into this building this year, with one of the main attractions being the "year round indoor pool" which the Devonshire heavily advertises on their marketing and on the pillars outside the building. Don't be fooled, there has not been a pool available to residents for over a year and the management has stopped sending residents updates on the repairs/permit process necessary to make the pool available again. No communication. Otherwise the building is good and the gym is nice but you can find better value luxury apartments elsewhere in Boston, and actually get to use the amenities you pay for. The Devonshire had the potential to be great, but it is an absolute disgrace! Unbeknownst to potential tenants, and without informing us when we signed our initial leases, the management decided to do an upgrade of the HVAC unit across the building. This entailed entering residents apartments for at least 35 days from 8AM-5AM, across 10 different phases. So they are in your apartment for 5 weeks straight and since it was done in a phase manner the total construction time for the whole building is 6 months+. And the work is still going on. The construction workers share the same elevators as the residents as they don't have a separate elevator provision. Visualize a construction zone - that's what the Devonshire is these days. They are offering 1/2 month rent as compensation, but that is scant consolation. Basically the apartments are uninhabitable. What does 1/2 a month rent get you when you don't have your apartment to yourself from 8-5? Stay far away from this building. Residents are leaving in droves. If they continue to treat residents like they are, a few law suits may follow. P.S - if there was a Zero stars option on Yelp, I would give them that. read more

I love living here. We moved here after living in a terrible apartment where the landlord wouldn't fix anything (there was a leak in the ceiling we complained about all year, until they suddenly got very interested in replacing the tile - but not fixing the leak - when prospective tenants were checking out the place), so we especially appreciate the prompt service here. Clogged toilet? Fixed within an hour. Stopped-up drain? Ditto. Maintenance problems are addressed quickly. The upstairs gym is great and can save you money since you won't need a separate gym membership. Having a concierge to pick up packages really helps too. It's worth cutting back on other expenses in order to live here. And you might save money by living here: We cook at home more because the kitchen is so nice; we don't take taxis any more since we are right by all the different subway lines; and we pay nothing to commute to work since we can walk there (financial district). Being able to come home during work if you need something is a huge plus too. I recommend it! And the concierge people are nice. Only complaint: I just think it's a bit weird that the concierge are minorities and women at night and on the weekends and men during weekday days. Does that not send a weird message? read more

One of my favorite places that I lived in Boston. Maybe in part because I lived there with Ankita D? In any case it is a cushy lifestyle. Smack in the middle of downtown the orange, green, red and blue lines are all easily accessible. At night things can be a bit drab as the financial district shuts down at night - but it was never far to Faneuil Hall, Theater District, etc. to find open restaurants and things to do. Among my favorite memories is working out on the top floor viewing the beautiful scenery of Boston from my treadmill. Of course you get what you pay for, which means you pay a lot. However, if you're not looking to buy but can afford a mortgage-like payment for a bit, I say go for it and live it up. Glad that I did. read more

This building is the worst building in Boston. I've lived here for a year, and am not renewing my lease for the following reasons: - The people working in the building management office are careless. They once let in an OUTSIDE cleaning service incorrectly to my apartment and didn't apologize or try to make amends. - Often times building handymen would let themselves into the apartment and leave things out of place without previously notifying us (this wasn't for repairs we requested, but rather for building-mandated things) - 3 weeks prior to my lease term ending, they decided to remove my name from everything which led to issues. - Charged me twice for one month, even though I had already paid the rent (I had paid my last month of the lease's rent at the lease start). Refused to fix the mistake because my roommate was continuing on our lease for the next year. - the Bottom line is this staff is extremely rude and incompetent, and careless. If you want strangers let into your apartment, then this is the place for you! read more

We have lived here for a few years and, when we first moved in they assured us they did not rent to undergraduates. Now, they are renting to college undergrads and it is starting to feel like a dorm. Great place, great location, very friendly and helpful staff, and management is very responsive (unlike some other places, I've heard). In response to some of the other reviews: We've had no problems with noise from other apartments. Never heard a single footstep from the floor above (probably because it's carpetted.) It's true that we can hear sirens and occasionally people yelling from the street, even though we're on the 34th floor. The windows are actually openable, which I assume is the cause. It hasn't been much of a problem. Yes, the HVAC upgrade was quite annoying. But apparently it was necessary work, and I don't know if they could have handled it any differently. They made available a workspace for people who worked from home, and turned one of the apartments into a playroom for people who have kids at home. It's a great location, especially now that a grocery store has moved into the area. The area is quite safe, but I imagine it could be a bit scary late at night for a woman walking alone. It's expensive, so in terms of quality for the price, maybe more like 4 stars. But in terms of overall quality, I think it's great. read more

I LOVE living at "The Dev", as it is affectionatley known among my neighbors and friends. Yes, rent is a little steep and my view consists of some boring dude's office, but I live 2 blocks away from work and 1 block away from EVERY major T line. South Station is a 10 minute walk, as is common. We are a hop, skip, and a jump away from Faneuil Hall too! The management of the building is super responsive to maintenance needs and the concierge guys and girls are very vigilant but also very friendly. The upper floors of teh building have some fantstic views of downtown boston and the harbor, but the views do come with a rent premium. I'd highly recommend this building to anyone studying or working in and aroudn the financial district. read more

After two years of living there, I am continually amazed at the level of service I get from the leasing office and the other staff in the building. I have never had a question that did not get answered almost immediately. Dorie and Janice in the leasing office have been so helpful over this time and really care about the quality of service the residents are receiving. The building is very well kept. The Concierge is top class, very helpful and efficient. The maintenance team is quick to fix things. The apartments are a bit small and old. The location has everything you may need at a close distance. However, at night the area is empty and is filled with bums, addicts and drunks (keep in mind this is downtown), so avoid walking alone at night. The building has many amenities, the problem is that they require an extra fee: gym, pool, spa and other common areas require an extra monthly fee $$$$ (most luxury buildings include amenities in monthly payment). The reason for only 3 stars: THE NOISE. Living here is very noisy due to the location (constructions, cars, traffic and emergency sirens). However, there is an extremely loud building construction next door. The construction noise starts at 6 AM until late at night everyday (including Saturdays, yes, SATURDAYS). This means we can not work from home nor sleep. We spoke with the management, but they said it was not their problem and to get some earplugs -__- ( I'm not kidding ). The management had empty units on the other side, BUT would only transfer us if we renewed our lease for another year (Not Cool). read more

The management of this building perpetually stands idly by while the Boston mayor's office grants approval to construction workers on the adjacent new giant high-rise office building. Not only has this resulted in exceptionally loud banging from 7am to 4pm every weekday (expected, given the circumstances, I suppose), but the construction company has somehow been managing to get approval to continue the work every weekend as well! Emailed complaints to the management about this issue do not even result in responses. Why has the management refused to stand up for the right of quiet enjoyment of its residents? Weekend approval for this requires a temporary license for every single weekend day of construction. Why has The Devonshire not yet put a stop to this? Further, this building gets uncomfortably hot at night, every night, throughout the winter. In order to sleep comfortably throughout the time when the heating is on (and A/C therefore off), one must leave a window open (and the heat off) all night. The problem, though, is general city noise and, most significantly, the aforementioned construction noise right at 6:59AM. As a result of these two issues, I average only a few solid nights of sleep every month. Finally, given the relatively old-fashioned setup of the HVAC system, only one of AC and heat can be enabled at once. The residents do not have a choice as to when this occurs, because it must be uniform throughout the building. Since the management seems to believe that one minute of one night under 55 degrees warrants an all-out change from air conditioning mode to heating mode, this system results in weeks of uncomfortably hot sleep as the seasons change from fall to winter. A similar issue occurs when the management does not enable the AC early-on enough during the spring. Other than that, the Devonshire is good. read more

The Devonshire Apartments are pretty nice and super convenient for those who work downtown. My walk to work is 10 minutes or so. The rent is a bit steep (for me at least), and I am constantly on the fence about moving a bit out of the city versus staying here. We recently had our fridge die. My wife filled out a maintenance request at 11PM the night before stating that someone could come after 8:45 am the next day. At 8:45 am the next day, they came for a look and a short bit later, they wheeled a replacement fridge in. (Not a new one, but virtually the same as the one we had). This is our second positive maintenance request - the first my wife sent a message right before leaving for work thinking once she got home in the afternoon, someone might come by. 2 minutes after filling it out, someone knocked on our door. That has been one of the good things of living in a high-rise building versus somewhere else. Pros: Close to every major public transportation line, including getting ot the airport via the blue line, silver line or cab. Close to anything you would want to do downtown. Close to work. The view from upstairs is great, but the health club is expensive. Cons: Grocery stores are difficult without a car. Closest Shaw's is in the Pru, Whole Foods about a 1/2 mile away. Peapod works well in the winter. Overall, it hasn't been bad, but I suspect I am one of the few Devonshire residents who rides his bike or takes the subway to get groceries. It gets old and I miss having a car. Parking here (I think) is around $230-40 or more per month... I really don't know since we were already planning on selling our car. read more

I am a 25-30 year old who lives in the Devonshire building, so given a recent post by a very angry Yelper, I thought I would venture an opinion on the building from a younger standpoint. The building is very centrally located, has a great staff, has a small but very convenient gym and a newly renovated pool. The units are ever-so-slightly dated (no hardwoods or stainless steel, except in the penthouses) but very clean and many have great full views of Boston or the Harbor or (like mine) peek-a-boo views of things like the state house dome. Plus, in comparison to other buildings in the area (Archstone in particular) the cost per square foot is much better at the Devonshire. The population of the building includes younger folks, mostly grad students and young professionals, as well as some young families and middle-aged to older adults. Perhaps it is just my floor, but it is very quiet and the only time I have ever seen a problem was when the small party of a middle aged man was too loud and the doorman came up to ask them to quiet down! This is also a hub of young professionals who, contrary to a previous poster's statement, pay their own way without cramming people into the apartment. I, for instance, share with my fiance. This is especially true of young lawyers, who relish living close to work after working hard all day! All in all, I like the Devonshire and would recommend it! read more

Love it. Been here for 5 years now. If the location / environs work for you, probably the best. When you factor in all the hidden costs in addition to rent you see in many of the other apartment buildings in the Boston area (e.g. building fee, sewage, water, electricity, gas, heat, a/c electricity, etc etc) and compare it to the Devonshire, the Devonshire is a better bang for the buck. This place is nice. I don't live here, but I have a friend who does, so I was able to see how spacious the studio was. Very nice kitchen and bathroom. I waited at the front entrance for a little while too, which is also very nice and upscale - there was a seating area and a newspaper for me to read. I will probably never live here though because 1) I don't have the money for it, 2) I'm not particularly picky about the conditions I live in, just as long as I'm in a safe area, and 3) I would probably end up almost never going to Cambridge, Brookline, or any other places right outside of Boston because everything would be a little too conveniently close. Again though, nice looking place if you care about your living arrangements and like the convenience of being in the middle of Boston. read more

I lived here for four years. 2006-2010. The rent was a bit steep on the 39th floor $3.2k for two bedroom/ two bath. We later moved to a two bedroom/ two bath, on the 11th floor when they had an opening and rent dropped to $2.8k. Beautiful lush carpeting, modern bathrooms and very modern kitchen, although no gas stoves(if u love to cook this sucks). Typical for fire safety regulations in an apt housing this large. It wasn't a massive difference in apartment size or quality but we lost the amazing views you expect from 40 stories high as opposed to 12. But $400 is still $400. The concierge was always friendly and curteous. The location was so convenient and literally central to anywhere you would want to be. Walks to Newbury street, fanuiel hall, south end, north end, the trains all run within a block or two, beautiful parks nearby and all the restaurants,bars, lounges, shops, salons etc you could possibly ask for. Im sure the rent has gone up a little since, but trust me, there is no place I would have rather lived in Boston. I miss the Devonshire all the way from New York. read more

I lived at Devonshire for 2 years. In that time I experienced an exceptional staff and fantastic place to live. Leasing office to front desk to maintenance, everyone was well trained and extremely friendly. The building was impeccably maintained day in and day out. The Skydeck offered great views of Boston for your workout or relaxation time. The indoor pool and sauna was a great touch during the prolonged winters of Massachusetts. Finally, apartments were spacious for downtown living and extremely well insulated window panels (saving money on heating and cooling expenses). I would definitely recommend living at Devonshire! read more

I lived in the Devonshire building for 5 years since I moved to Boston from D.C, and would not have left had I not bought my own place. I loved every minute living there! The management staff of the building, John Donovan and Janice Kettenhofen, are top notch professionals in luxury building management. They strive to make residents' living experience enjoyable and look always to find customized solutions to residents' particular circumstances. They are genuinely kind and caring for residents. The staff at the concierge desk and maintenance people are also first class and look after the residents. They are very responsive and maintenance requests get fixed in no time! Shoutout to John, Margaret, Bill, and Juan! Thank you! The location of the building is perfect, and close to everything. I probably ridged a bullet on this one but...Stacie told me I could put a holding fee on an apartment and just to keep my receipt in case I don't end up moving in. I go back to let them know I found other arrangements and she says "oh sorry can't get your deposit back it's been too long" I said "but you're the one who told me I could if I kept my receipt" she then informed me that was only good for 72 hours haha which wasn't disclosed in the first place or I never would have put the deposit to hold the apartment. I then ask to speak with management and she says "yea sorry she's not here. Never really is." So she refers me to send management an email. She scribbles an email on a business card and sends me on my way. I emailed the "manager" or whatever email it is I was given and still have yet to hear back and it's been almost a week. read more

We've lived here three different times. First, we had a one bedroom when my wife was working at a startup in Boston, and then another one bedroom when I was consulting in Boston. Finally, we decided to make the move from rural NH into the city, so got a two bedroom apartment. It is perfect for our needs. We've been able to give up our car - there's a ZipCar location across the street. South Station is a quick walk and I can get to the airport easily, both of which are great since I travel frequently for work. The staff at the concierge desk are extremely helpful. For example, I had to take my father-in-law to the doctor once and was having more difficulty finding a cab than I had guessed. One of the concierges - Sheamus - RAN down the street around the corner up to a nearby hotel to get us a cab. Amazing! The rest of the staff are also wonderful. When anything needs to be fixed, it is addressed quickly and effectively. It is a very quick bike ride to the Charles River Esplanade and a short walk to the harbor. The views on our floor are very nice - we look over the Common, Public Garden and the Charles River. We're quite happy here and expect we'll be here for many more years. read more
