I asked my stepdad what he wanted for his 80th birthday and he said he needed a new pair of boots. Believe it or not this beast of a man still works after retirement and runs through boots faster than a typical New Yorker does seasonal tires. So, I asked my mom where can I get him Red Wings or Thorogood's around here and she said we need to go to Montano's in Saugerties, so off we went. Montano's has been around since 1906, wow that is long time! They provide professional fitting services, Pedorthic care, and specialized inventory targeted to foot health support. Montano's has a variety of high-quality work-boot brands including Red Wing, Chippewa, Thorogood, Danner, Irish Setter, and Timberland. They have a variety of athletic and hiking footwear brands such as Merrell, Keen, Hoka, On Running, and Salomon. There is a selection catered to casual and comfort as well; brands include Dansko, Birkenstock, Blundstone, UGG, and Vionic. Fair warning, it's not cheap to shop here. You are buying pretty much the best-of-the-best with a professional service. Some of these work boots are easily $200+ and the specialty insoles are running $65+ so keep that in mind when shopping. I was able to kill two birds with one stone by buying my stepdad his birthday present and my mom a new pair of shoes for Mother's Day. It wasn't cheap but they are worth it, plus I don't get to see them as much as I would like. The Red Wings he chose were $200, the specialty insoles cost $65 and Mom's shoes were $120. All the items are of high quality and should last them until my next visit, lol. Staff were very friendly and helpful. From the moment we walked in we were treated with respect and one of the associates accommodated both my family members with all of their fitting needs. I just purchased a new pair of Keens recently for work but I was really interested in trying out a pair of Thorogood's. The problem is if I tried them on, I probably would have bought them. I just don't need another pair now but the selection here seems like an excellent choice for a future work boot. I might be back next year once I ware my Keens out. All-in-all, Montano's Shoe Store is an excellent spot to find great service and high-quality footwear for any occasion. I highly recommend visiting them if you in Saugerties shopping. read more

When was the last time u went to a shoe store and anyone offered to measure ur feet? I would have to say I was at the most, 10 yrs old! I was having lunch around the corner and parked nearby. Noticed a sale table, so obviously had to check it out. I have a pet sheep at Catskill Animal Sanctuary -- please visit this whole area is magical! Anyway... Montano's is owned by a podiatrist and the first thing that happened was my awesome girl, Michelle, measured my feet, only to discover I had no idea what I was talking about -- but SHE did! I had been in a taxi accident I. 2003 w foot injury to my right foot it went untreated. Not any kind of shoe including a slipper ever was comfortable since then. Michelle immediately put me in the correct (very cool) sneaker, I was litterally jumping around!!! And guess what. They were on sale!!! I love this place so much! I love my new sneaks so much! I walked all over the place where I live in Riverdale (bronx) I might sleep with them on! They are the best thing ever! You cannot go anywhere besides this place to get the perfect fit! We've been here multiple times in the last year for hiking boots, sandals, and socks, and each time we've received prompt, preemptive service, great recommendations, and help both with sizing and shoe retrieval. They went especially out of the way to help with hiking boots, in which they had my size but not the color that I wanted and arranged to run the color that I wanted over from their warehouse before I ultimately decided to go with the first color. Montano's Shoe Store is an old fashioned shoe store where the owner and sales staff measure your feet and find you the best possible fit and style of shoe you need and want. Mr Montano also makes custom orthotics. After a bad horseback riding accident I ended up with one leg slightly shorter than the other and Mr Montano has really gone the extra mile to make orthotics that help with my issues. He has tweaked them multiple times and always with a kind word and a smile when I feel like "that customer" that is never satisfied. Truth is I am very satisfied with workmanship and service. The best shoe store I've seen since I was a little kid!! These guys are great. Over the past few months I've had trouble finding a good pair of Oxfords. I'd worn Dr Martens for 20 yrs and the fit somehow changed in between when I got my last pair and now. And after going thru several pairs of other brands thru Amazon, I tried going to Montano's. You get personalized service, even when they're busy -- when I was there, the young lady who helped me had two other customers she was working with and she still showed me the most professional courtesy she could. Plus, the store's owner checked the fit too. It's great to see a store that's still thriving when so many other indie businesses are failing because of chains and online shopping. Awesome throw back shoe store. If you are a working man you know how important it is to have a quality pair of work shoes on your feet every day and this is the place to get them. They carry all the best brands with a special emphasis on Red Wing which are my personal favorite. They usually have a collection of factory seconds which have minor cosmetic flaws but are half price. Basically for 20 dollars more then you would pay for garbage boots at Walmart you could have Red Wings or Chippewas on your feet and they will always measure your feet to get the right size. Feel like I got the short end of the stick with my experience. The woman helping me was so grumpy I was uncomfortable. She also did not know a lot and wasn't very enthused with helping me. Mom, Dad and I went down today. Mom needed to be fitted for sneakers or shoes with velcro closure. Mom has a form of dementia that leaves her non verbal. Lisa was fantastic with her. Do Not buy from this retailer, they do not stand behind their warrantee or products. I purchase a pair of Chippewa work boots. At check out I asked the clerk what kind of warrantee was on the boots. He told me 1-year. 3 months later the leather near the soles were cracked and broken. I returned them only to receive 1/3 of the cost of the boot in store credit. A 1-year warrantee? if I wanted a 3-month boot I would have gone to Walmart. I have been working in the same line of work my whole life. Generally I do get a whole year out of a pair of boots so this was clearly a design defect. Most of the guys I work with no longer go to Montano for shoes, neither will I. read more

I was taken care of by Karen, who was incredibly helpful, personable, and professional. I tried on at least seven pairs of shoes and never once felt rushed or that I was being overly demanding. Just recently, I was in the market for a pair of Dansko's and since I was home (in the area), my father and I ran back here to grab them. I left a pissed off review because they made me wait a month for shoes that were never ordered and the salesman (who I assume was the owner) had all the charm of a parking meter reader, but they hooked up my grandmother with some awesome shoes since she has scoliosis and was unable to walk and we just did a long walk for the first time on the roundout in years because of the work they did to her shoes so kudos to them. Great place, great boots! They make shopping for boots pleasurable. I came in with custom arch supports and custom ankle braces, to find boots that would work with them, and without them. The associate spent his time with me to find the best accommodating boots, with comfort as a top goal. He helped me address any issues with the prosthetics, he helped me find solutions with padding and height difference due to my ankle brace. The price was also surprising, I expected that I'd have to pay a lot more than it rang out to be. Great quality boots for a very affordable price. My husband and I were having lunch in Saugerties and noticed a shoe store that says providing care for over 100 years. I figured I would give them a try since I had had a foot fusion last year and couldn't find any shoes that fit. In addition to finding 2 pairs of shoes for me Karen (who was amazing and so patient) was able to find a pair of shoes for my husband who lost part of his foot last year in a motorcycle accident. No they are not cheap but I can't emphasize the importance of finding a place that truly knows feet and the proper shoes that are best. I found this place while wandering the street and thought it was a great old school shoe store. Decided to check out their running shoes. They measured my foot and came up with a 10 1/2 when I usually wear a 8 1/2. Salesperson was very convincing and he even had the owner double check the fit. Hmm. Oh this store takes me back to my youth. I have not been in it since I was little girl - being in town for my Grandma's funeral - my mom wanted to take my children in for a pair of shoes just like my Grandma did for me.
