Montauk IGA, is a Great store! You can get just about everything you need here, BBQ rotisserie chickens... already cooked no problem..barbecue supplies so you can cook your own they've got it! Need beer, pasta, ice cream and all those neat beach toys to make your Montauk fun more enjoyable. There's a free parking lot here but don't overstay your visit and go to the beach as they might throw you away. Been coming to this IGA for many years love it here. They're always very courteous. I have been living in this town for years and I choose to go to the IGA in Amagansett due to the lack of options and quality of produce compared to Amagansett IGA even though that location is not the best either. Living in such a wealthy area on Long Island you would think our grocery stores would be top of the line. That is farthest from the truth. I have been to better grocery stores in much lower income neighborhoods than the ones we have in the Hamptons. I particularly had enough tonight and could not keep this bottled up. I had a late night craving for the white cheddar Cheetos puffs. Every grocery store but the one in my town carries them. I don't ever eat junk food, but I had a desperate craving tonight. They have let me down. I hate that there is mostly self check out now. It is cold and soulless compared to the relationships you build with the people in front of you. My family and I miss the old staff... they were wonderful. Do better Montauk IGA. Bring back normal checkouts instead of this computer BS. Two self check outs stations were enough. Title: The Human Raincloud of the Montauk IGA I've been shopping at the Montauk IGA for years and can say, without hesitation, that it's usually a shining example of small-town warmth and friendliness. The staff is famously helpful, cheerful, and welcoming -- which is why encountering Dayanara at the checkout feels like suddenly stepping into a thunderstorm in the middle of a sunny day. It's as if her job description reads: "Scowl, sigh heavily, and make customers question all their life choices." She manages to inject rudeness into the most basic exchanges, going out of her way to be curt, unhelpful, and generally unpleasant. If Montauk ever needed a mascot for passive-aggressive hostility, she'd be overqualified. This isn't a case of someone having a bad day -- this is a professional commitment to being a human sandpaper strip. The contrast with the rest of the staff is so stark it's almost performance art. For the sake of the store's otherwise stellar reputation, she should be moved into a role that doesn't involve live humans. Stock room. Night shift. Mars. Anywhere but the checkout lane. Good to have a grocery store in town in case you miss something on your trip or want to fill up your provisions. Some items are outside cash register counter, so I have to put my basket and walk out to grab what I want then to walk back. Staff aren't helpful at all and only chit chat to each other. I just happy that at least they have grocery stuff I want. read more

They are the only game in town for now, and they know it. However, if you're coming here, you need to time it right, otherwise it gets crowded, and the staff starts to get a bit rigid and stressed. On a recent visit to Montauk, I made two trips to the IGA and it was like the tale of two cities. The first time, was just prior to lunch on a Monday....I needed a few things for lunch, went to the deli counter, and the man behind the counter could not have been friendlier. Turns out he commutes from Connecticut...what a commute! I managed to find a few other things I needed and I was on my way to the check out line. Girl who checked me out must have had botox done all over her face because her expression never changed...not once. On my second visit, I was coming in just to get steaks for a BBQ.....Herb's Market up the street was just too expensive. I found a batch of steaks back in the meat section, made my way past a long row of people with carts to find the BBQ briquettes, and picked up a sixer from the beer cooler. Now, turns out this was the day before the 4th of July, and everyone in Montauk decided that this was the time to come to the IGA to stock up on supplies for their cookouts and long weekend in town. Here I am with a few items, and about 50 other people waiting to check out, waiting down the aisles, etc. Well, I decided that there HAS to be an express line, right? Well, no, turns out there wasn't. I made a move that I don't normally make....I turned into what I hate...I became THAT guy....I had people depending on me to get back with food, so I snuck into the first line, nobody saw me, and when I did get questioned, it already too late, I was wedged in between two massive carts of food...and I couldn't get out. Only way out was to get rung up and pay and beat feet the heck out of there and make a BBQ for my family!! Bottom line is that this place needs to be updated. They need competent staff that can keep things moving, and YES, they need an express line so that people who just need a few items can get in and out without having to wait behind a sea of people that appear to be shopping because the apocalypse is coming. read more

The IGA offers excellent service but the food is not sourced well. There are very few gluten free options and no organic produce. This supermarket needs to be renovated and updated to meet the dietary needs of the community. Eating genetically modified foods saturated in pesticides, herbicides and many other industrial chemicals is not healthy. read more

Went there to buy some lobster for a Mother's Day dinner as the usual seafood places were not yet open for the season. The tank sign said "fresh local" lobsters. Out of 6 in the tank, they could only find one that had any life to it so beware of buying "fresh local" lobster their. If I hadn't asked to see whether the lobster was alive before I bought it, I would have taken home dead lobster. read more

Abjectly rude checkout employee. They're probably overworked, understaffed and underpaid. Employee bossed me around twice regarding basket placement. After paying, I explained my son and I were carrying groceries home. Employee over stuffed everything into one bag. When I began to split into two bags she insisted that I needed to pay for the second bag - as a second transaction - for a nickel. Anyone who acts like this and continues to be employed must have bad management. read more

The Montauk IGA not only has a nice selection of products for a small town, but offers you fresh meats, dairy, & deli products as well. Robert, the owner, & Mary, The GM, are very nice people who always try to accommodate their shoppers. It would be great if they could expand their produce dept., but they haven't been able to mostly because of town building restrictions, not for lack of trying. They have a nice friendly staff as well and expand their hours to meet their customers needs during the height of the tourist season. read more

My family owns a house here in Montauk and the only store we are pretty much forced to go to is IGA. The staff there is beyond nasty. The one girl kept throwing the grocery divider back on the belt. No one smiles or have anything nice about them. One guy was stocking on his cell phone. On top of all this the prices are very high. I hope the owners will evaluate their staff and for the high prices there at least make it a friendly place to be! read more
