My grandmother was recently placed into this facility after my uncle, who was her caretaker had passed away. I was very worried about her situation and her wellbeing because of all the stories you hear about nursing facilities for the elderly. I was more so concerned as I live out of state and wanted to make sure that my grandmother was at a place where I knew she would be taken care of. Cleanliness-- While I was in LA- I visited numerous facilities to see if there were any options for a place closer to family, so that my aunts were able to go visit her more frequently. I was really surprised at how many facilities were just down right-- dirty. MCC seems to be cleaner than most places I've seen and researched. I was relieved to know that my grandma was here and not at 98% of the places I saw. Employees-- I noticed that this place might be a little short staffed but when I addressed any concerns or worries about my grandmother's comfort and needs, there was always someone there to accommodate and listen to what I had to say. So for the amount of staff they have and the amount of patients they have -- I can tell they try their best to make sure everyone is happy there. Especially, the RN Rachel-- she is very sweet and good at what she does. I call over to the facility a few times a week to see how my grandmother is doing and when I speak to her-- she tells me in detail how my grandmother is doing-- such as, what she did that day, how much she ate, if she has been responsive to certain things, etc. Rachel keeps me relieved that my grandmother is taken care of. Of course, you would want to see your loved one at home and not at a facility. However, when your loved one is someone like my grandmother where she has Alzheimer and is in need of 24 hour care, you want to make sure they are at a facility that cares for their patients and that they receive the care they need. It is true-- it is your responsibility to keep up to date about your loved one in any facility. But, it does give me relief that my grandmother is here and not at many other facilities because I know that most of the workers I've met while I was there seemed attentive and cared for their patients. My grandmother's stay is still relatively new there -- I will update if anything changes. But, for now- I am happy with the service provided here for my grandmother. read more

My 69 year old friend was transferred here from the hospital. She has MS and can't walk anymore after her fall. She said the food was good there. I got a call saying, pick her up tomorrow. What??? If not, she will have to pay $500 a day she is her and she doesn't want to do that. They really wanted her out of there. No warning, no nothing! I said, I called and was told you will not send her home if no one is there to watch her. This social worker kept saying you need to pick her up tomorrow. I said, I can't, I can't lift her, she can't walk. She can't go home, no one is there to watch her! I had to hurry up and find an assisted living place, rush, rush, check it out. So stressful. This is not how you should treat patients. I don't think this was right. They did order the things I asked them to through medicare, a commode, wheelchair, hospital bed. That was good. If I Could give 0 stars I would, this place is horrible starting with their nurse supervisors. My auntie had a stroke and was send to this place for rehab. My auntie was complaining a lot she had UTI, they are very careless. She fell three times from her bed. Im waiting an answer from her social worker to get her tranfer. My auntie can't speak she lost her speech from the stroke she cries because it burns her, but they don't care her main reason for being there is for therapy. Shes Vegetarian and they keep given her chichen when we keep telling them not to give her meat. Nurses don't follow instructions on the notes or simply they don't care. Place needs some work. Over all facility and to the beds. My father was here for a month. He needed a lot of physical therapy to be able to be on his own again. His clothes would get lost. Diapers weren't changed he would have to call me so I could call the front desk to have someone go and clean him, he said he would be waiting for over an hour. The beds had no rails, he tried to get up and fell. Only time this place called me. Communication with family members doctors or anyone didn't exist He has since passed but thought I would write a review to let everyone know what this place is really like since he's been on my mind. My father was here last year recovering from a broken hip. It was not a good experience. Disorganized- staff is very disorganized, it seems like there is very little communication within staff at this facility. Often I would call to arrange to drop off personal belongings for my dad, and staff was not sure who was in charge of making sure he received the items I dropped off. Several times I visited my dad and he would be wearing other people's clothes. It is sad that they could not do something as basic as tracking a patient's personal belongings. Poor care--I was wary that this place was low quality because in my research I found that they had been fined for violations. But, we had to send my dad there because our options were limited in the midst of the pandemic. My dad complained to me every day that he was not comfortable here, so I had to move him home sooner than anticipated. Great nurses, lousy lazy administration. The case manager and social worker are nothing but a bunch of liars who care more about their appearance than they do about their patients. They made promises they did not keep. they told me I signed paperwork which they couldn't produce. They bullsh! . We had broken furniture that they promised would replace they never did. They never gave me my discharge papers. Admn really need to be investigated. I did report them to the health department for their ice machine which was giving my roommate chronic diarrhea. The social worker and case manager do not know what they're doing a And Operating The system and will lie to save their butts. Since this was the end of the year, the rumor was they were cutting costs to increase their year end bonuses, especially the kitchen. Never had fresh vegetables or fresh fruit to cut costs. Mom has been here for two months under their care. No progress she has actually regress on her health condition. Staff has no idea of the correct health progress. They don't have great comunicativos. One reps states something another other things and they could never have correct information. The Montebello Care Center is located in the heart of the city of Montebello. It has provided care and rehab services for countless patients in the community. For the past 5 weeks they have provided therapeutic services for my aunt/sister as she recovered from a life changing and altering surgery. They have treated her very well and our family is very grateful for the personalized care she received at MCC. DO NOT BRING YOUR LOVED ONES HERE!!! My father suffered a stroke and was transferred from St Francis hospital to this place and was here for about 5 days. Their visitation rules change DAILY supposedly because of COVID bla bla bla but honestly it depends on who answers the phone and what mood they are in. To be honest I feel like they just do not want people to see how utterly disgusting this place is. After much complaining, my mother was allowed inside to visit my father and explained to me how extremely dirty and smelly it is inside. My father needed help with restroom as he could not get up during his stay and they would leave him dirty and urinated for hours until my mom complained and complained about him needing to be changed. Then when they finally would come and do their job, the ladies had an attitude with my mother. I can only imagine how it was when my father was alone and over nights. My father was supposed to be on a heart healthy diet and his food was EXTREMELY salty. The only good thing according to my mother was the coffee. My father could not physically feed himself so my father would not eat when my mother was not their so he would not eat. He lost a lot of weight during his stay here. My father was not given enough physical therapy as his muscles would hurt extremely when we finally were able to get him transferred out of this place. 3 days into his new place and he's able to move better with way less pain. If I could give this place negative stars I would. If your parents or loved ones were evil to you then this is the PERFECT place to get back at them. I will admit that I was a bit skeptical about this place when I went to visit it prior to my father being admitted after his stroke. The center is a bit outdated and needs upgrading but there is where any of the things I didn't like ends. The staff was amazing! They were very attentive, caring and extremely patient with my father. They always kept me updated on my fathers progress and any other concerns. It felt to me that the staff genuinely cared for my father and it helped me sleep at night knowing that he was in good hands. Truly a crap show. Fernando is really the only thing good there. When he is there and when he's not bombarded with the rest of the staff's mistakes Fernando get's things done. They get one star for Fernando and one star for the this bald Latino male nurse who overheard me helplessly looking for my mother's room. All I could get out of everyone else was "I don't know" " I don't know" "I don't know" I felt like I was running through the halls of a nightmare trying to find my mom and no one knew where she was or cared to help me find her. As we enter the 3rd year of the pandemic, I feel the need to write this review because the treatment given by Montebello Care Center to my father still bothers me today. I don't want others to be unaware of what they may be getting into. Some service treatment received was akin to a transaction at Walmart or Target. At a time when my father was thought to be at high risk of death from the Covid illness, as stated by doctors, the treatment team asked my mother to bring him some clothing. Of course my mother obliged and filled a small luggage with his own clothing, some new clothing bought along the way, his cell phone stuffed in the bag, and his favorite jacket on the side. The care center either lost it all, or someone stole it. My mother was asked if she asked for a receipt when she dropped it off, placing the blame on her. The real question should have been if someone offered her a receipt, if that is supposedly the protocol. What followed were months of painstaking phone calls and emails from me and my mother reaching out to them requesting a resolution. The phone system is faulty. Endless ringing, transfers that got disconnected, messages that were not returned. At best were discussions that ended with statements that they would follow up and call back today/tomorrow, and never did, or only did once. I was never provided with a grievance form that I requested the same day my father was thankfully discharged. I had to write my own freehand letter. About 5 months later the care center compensated my father and mother with petty cash, only for the items my mother had bought and happened to keep receipts for. The final letter to resolve this issue struck me as shady because it was signed with a date in March, but it was 5 months later, in August, when we met outside the clinic to complete the "transaction." It feels as though the petty cash and the retroactive date were done to give the impression of a swift and fair resolution. We never found out what happened to my father's belongings. I am grateful that the doctor treated my father medically well enough to survive Covid-19 and be discharged so that he would continue to recover at home. That is the most important thing. Though it is also important to be treated with respect, courtesy, and dignity by all other workers, whether it's the person checking in the belongings at the door, or fulfilling a promised return call by administration. It means a lot when we think our loved one is dying. read more

This 1 star review is only in regards to how the clothes inventory is being managed for patients. Our mother was sent here from the hospital. We called Montebello Care center and asked how we go about bringing her clothes to wear. We were told to just stop by and drop off the clothes. We labeled her clothes in permanent marker (total 24 items not counting shoes), took photos, put them in bags that were labeled with her name and room number written in permanent marker. Later when our mother left Montebello Care Center, we asked them to return her clothes so she could use them at another facility. Montebello Care Center told us that Social Services collects the clothes and does an inventory prior to releasing them, and for several weeks were were told they are waiting for Social Services, as they had the clothes. Then later, we received a phone call that they COULD NOT LOCATE ANY OF HER CLOTHES. They asked for a list of clothes, with receipts and prices for replacement, which was sent in August. No response. Followed up with phone messages. No response. Eventually, we wrote up a letter and physically delivered it to the facility, and had the person that took the letter sign and date it. After that, we were told they couldn't find the Inventory List, and the only item on their list was eye glasses (when our mother was sent there from the hospital). They said they would bring this up to management's attention about what to do, but they didn't call back for a week, so we called again and spoke to the Administrator. Administrator told us that their procedure is whomever received the clothes is supposed to write up a list of items, which is entered on an inventory list. WE WERE NOT INFORMED OF THIS BEFORE DROPPING OFF CLOTHES, AND NEVER RECEIVED AN INVENTORY LIST OR RECEIPT WHEN WE DROPPED THE CLOTHES OFF. Why are the patients on limited income eating the cost of buying new clothes, WHEN THE STAFF AT THE FACILITY ARE NOT FOLLOWING THEIR OWN PROCEDURES, AND NEW PEOPLE ARE NOT INFORMED OF THESE PROCEDURES IN ADVANCE? At this point, we still haven't received any reimbursement for her missing clothes, and will continue pursuing this. So what we learned the hard way is if you're going to drop off any clothes/items for loved ones, ASK THEM FOR THEIR WRITTEN PROCEDURE PRIOR TO DROPPING ANYTHING OFF. read more

Sorry my mother was here for five days at the end of December 2018. They gave her medication that did her harm. She had to return to the hospital and move her to another convalescent facility. I am shocked on how the elderly get treated. The employees here should provide quality service. read more

There's a giant sign out front upon which they have delayed themselves heroes. That is a LIE!!!!!!!! My mother is there attempting to recover, & because of covid, we can't be there. So, we've had to leave our mother in the care of these "people" with HORRIBLE attitudes. They've lied to us about checking in her, not knowing that, while either I or my sister was on the phone with them, the other is on the phone with my mother. We can hear everything. Once, while my mother was on the phone with me, crying that she wished she were home because she had been waiting an hour to use the restroom, a nurse came in, heard her, and yelled, "You're not the only one here, okay?" When I called the nurse's station to tell her my mom was just waiting to use the restroom, that same nurse said, "I just checked on her, ma'am, she's fine, she's sleeping." I told her I had been the one in the phone when she walked. She promptly hung up. Hero? You be the judge. I know there's a pandemic, & that many facilities are short staffed, but this is beyond the pale. I spoke to a staff member today (I don't want to reveal her name here for obvious reasons) that said that many of the nurses around her "have an attitude." Unfortunately, my mother has developed an infection & even her primary doctor now thinks it would be unwise to release her right now. We're in agony. Most of these people are NOT heroes. A hero goes above and beyond. Given the pandemic, we weren't expecting heroes. We expected delays. But we did NOT expect attitude, yelling, hang ups, or outright lies. We feel so helpless. Do NOT allow your loved ones to be taken here. We were sold a bill of goods. We were told she's be there a few days, then be home. Now she has an infection & we have no idea WHEN she'll come home. Such a clean, cute little place! The exterior of the bldg could use some updating, maybe fresh coats of paint, refinish the cement ramp, and some new parking signs...but don't let the outside fool you...inside is bright, spacious, uncluttered. No bad smells! Staff are very kind and accommodating to the best of their abilities. The staff especially the chiefs(?) are very knowledgeable in their areas. Highly recommend this place, especially if your loved one needs physical therapy, etc! My aunt was here for rehab and she got great treatment! My mother was sent there by the White Memorial Adventist Hopsital to continue with her rehab. My mom went in talking, yes a little forgetful, but still knew what was going on with her, she was able to keep up with a conversation. But as time went by, my mom's health deteriorated. During her stay, she was taken to ER 3 times, the first 2 because of serious Urine Infections and the last time because her heart stopped. There were times were I knew something was wrong with my mom and I would call the nurse on duty to let her know but they wouldn't pay much attention. I remember there was a time where I made several calls and told everyone that answered that I knew there was something bad going on with my mom, and only then I was transfered to the Manager on duty, she intervened and only then my mom received the attention she required. During all this time because of COVID-19, I wasn't able to visit. I could only talk to her on the phone, and sometimes I would see her by Facetime, which could only be done by appointment and they were horrible experiences, due to the background noise, I couldn't talk to her, just see her face. Many times I asked my mom if they treated her with respect, if she had any complaints, but she always said everyhting was fine. Sometimes she would tell me it seemed she was alone, because nobody went in to check up on her. Now, when I think back and read the journal I keep of my daily calls, I see that my mom was not getting the help she deserved. They are responsible for the deterioration of my mother's health. I wonder how many times my mom didn't get the care she required, or if they cleaned my mom on time, or maybe they kept her dirty for hours and caused her to catch all the infections she has been battling ever since her stay at Montebello Care Center.
