My Mother has been at Sunset Manor in El Monte since November 2023. I am there almost every day with her, and I see firsthand their daily activities. My mother is 92 years old and not the perfect patient. The kitchen has adjusted her meals, the RNs/LVNs, DNAs, RNAs, Social Workers, Physical Therapists, Finance Office, Laundry dept, cleaning crew, maintenance staff and Management (sorry if I miss anyone) this staff has been so nice and helpful regarding my mother's every needs. They always keep the family, me and my sister, informed. In fact, my mothers' roommate (patient) told me that she never wants to leave the Manor. She loves staying at the Manor because everyone there are so very nice with her and tends to her needs. I give Suset Manor and all who work there: 5 stars *****. :) read more

Horrible place. Some of the nurses are very nice. The management is some hell. Don't put your loved ones there got out and the next time.

Stay far away from this place. Although the staff is friendly, the atmosphere of this place is very depressing. Three patients per room and not enough monitoring. Only one RN per shift over a dozen LVNs. My dad died after 3 days of being there. They told us that he was found unconscious during their rounds. They don't have heart monitors which is very upsetting. On top it off they called to let us know that he passed away by leaving us a message and saying that our father expired as if he's a piece of meat or cheese. Worst thing is that they ended the call by saying "have a great day". We are beyond upset. read more

I ask that all family members be attentive in the care their family members receive and to be on the watch with the current social worker at this facility, Blanca Alderete. She has repeatedly has been pushing our family member to move to another facility in an aggressive and hostile manner. We disagreed with the decision to move our family member for the 4th time, and instead of working with us to find a professional solution, she says we should look into other facilities. Her bullying manner makes it challenging to get questions answered about the care our family member is receiving. The serious lack of professionalism makes me wonder why this person is entrusted to a position that is intended to HELP the families. I hope the owner takes this feedback into consideration. Speaking to her directly seemed to have no effect as she disregarded our concerns and said we can talk to the ombudsman if we want to. Based on speaking to other patients, we are not the only ones who had had these concerns. We have been here over 2 years, and this a consistent pattern. We have also brought concerns to administration but they have been unhelpful. read more

Okay real truth here, the home itself is pretty good, they weren't exactly on it, but not horrible. Overall most of the staff was caring and friendly. Horrible parking situation, or lack thereof. ****BEWARE-The will most likely 'refer' you into signing with a Hospice, which we fell for unfortunately. Blanca on staff set us up with Julie and Nathan with Pride Hospice (who knows of they changed the name now), but look for other Hospice options is you actually care about your loved one. They are smooth talker and full of crap. Honestly, we didn't know better and my poor step mom paid for it. They even write a false cause of death on her certificate. I can only assume the 'push' for this 'great' Hospice is they must get a commission. Sad sad humans doing this to people in need. Hopefully you take this. read more

Sunset Manor has been an incredible care facility for my sister. Their respiratory and physical therapists are top notch. The nurses and staff were very conscientious and thoughtful with one on one care for my sister. Blanca, the social services director, went over and above to solve problems and find the right solutions for my sister, always in her best interests. Social worker, administrator, and RN case manager are very unprofessional. They blame the pt for wandering when they do not monitor for fall. During family meeting, the administrator was too busy cutting up his credit cards and did not pay any attention to what we had to say, brush us off, and only tries to push their agenda and what "they think best" even with our disapproval. Nurses did not assess dressing and did not do wound care and no one noticed until we saw the date on the dressing. When we complained, their solution was to not put dates on dressing to cover up their incompetence. read more

I have been helping my grandmother with her medical problems for some time now. We have dealt with several other convalescent hospitals that did not meet our needs and had lost hope that we would find a place with the correct care providers. We then met Blanca Alderete, the social worker at Sunset Manor, who went above and beyond for my grandmother. From the minute we met her we knew we would be in good hands. First of all, Blanca practices amazing bedside manners, something I tend to notice since I have experience working in the medical field. She made herself available whenever there was an issue going on and did not rest until the problem was resolved. She offered so many resources before we left the facility which made me feel more at peace with my grandmother's situation. I hope I come across more social workers like her in the future! read more

In the past 6 months, I've visited Sunset Manor often. I have worked in the medical field in and around the SGV for the past 5 years. I have found this building to be very clean, they have a very helpful staff & a director of nursing that is very smart & has a lot of experience. They work with some of the best physicians in the area and their subacute unit is a great service to the community of El Monte. They have recently changed their logo & made some improvements from the inside out. They are doing a great job there! read more

My friend finally moved to Casa Colina and it's a world of difference. At Sunset the social worker Blanca is incompetent and disorganized. She can't answer any questions. Between her and Sandra, they caused weeks of delay. They also lie to cover up. My friend had bruises from the staff crossing her legs. When asked about it, they blamed my friend who can't move her legs at all. Also, it was so hot the past few weeks but they bundle and wrap their patients without an once of common sense. Service is so inconsistent, you have to tell each CNA what to do. They don't communicate with each other. Most of the staff either can't read or is incompetent. We even put a sign to not turn off the radio and every time I visit, the radio is off. read more

This place is my life saver!! From the first time I called them to the last moment, they walked me through the whole process of getting my dad settled!! I want to say THANK YOU SO MUCH, to the whole staff. You don't know what it meant to me for all the care you have given my dad and helping me handle things since it was my first time dealing with a sick parent!! This facility is clean, well staff and friendly!! It didn't seem like a convalescent home with the clean hallways and well equipped rooms with everything that was needed to keep my dad entertained. The only reason I'm giving one star is because it is required. I would say this place should have a minus star rating. My family member went in for PT and was worse off when he was discharged. The staff continued to administer his medication incorrectly even when they were told over and over when to administer it. This seems minor but when the medication was given incorrectly, it would make my brother ill and he was unable to complete his PT session. I can go on and on but all anyone needs to know is this: stay away from this place. It is also in scary neighborhood as an added bonus! read more

The staff is very very rude. I called and ask for a quick (5 minutes tour) and staff refused stating that they are busy and don't have time. So, I asked her if I could just ask her a couple questions (like 3Qs), she said she's busy and don't have time. What a horrible place! I do not recommend this. This review is not based on an experience at the facility, but on the extraordinary assistance from the Director of Admissions, Veronica Rubio. I am the conservator of a patient who has a severe problem with mental illness. It is almost impossible to obtain adequate help for these patients once they have exhausted their limited Medicare coverage and have to rely on Medi-Cal. The facility was not able to admit the patient because they are not a psychiatric facility, but Ms Rubio went out of her way to see that I was put in touch with the proper resources. Sunset Manor is fortunate to have such a compassionate employee. read more

Its sad how a bad apple that has lots of time to type out complaints instead on focusing on the problem. Look for the solution. If you are not happy with your loved one at certain facility. Find another one suitable to your liking or requirements. My account is real. Sunset Manor is a good place with caring people. Any issues that arise they work with you and are concern of your loved one. Theres no.such thing as perfect but this place is close to it. Compare to others that i investigated when choosing a place for my dad 3 years ago. Im happy to find this place. I visit my dad frequently at different times n days n evenings. I know he's in good hands. I got lucky but if you are not happy with the place and all you do is complaint. Look into another place or take them home and see how big of a responsibility it is emotional n physical. Plus time consuming as my father needs 24 hour care that majority cant provide because we still have our bills rent insurance to work for. But if you have been complaining for over awhile; How come you still have them there? Especially the relatives that hardly visit and when they do; they see something they dont like and post a complaint about the place. Like i said i visit frequently and i see it. This facility is definitely one of the best in this area! I visit my uncle every once in awhile, and I can tell that the staff has been working hard on his treatment and taking care of his well-being. They are very understanding and patient with his stubbornness, which not a lot of people can handle. I'm so thankful he's in safe hands. Everytime I come here, it feels like visiting a second or third home because everyone's so friendly and you can tell that they really want the best for their residents. After my grandma was hospitalized, we knew she would need to be placed in a nursing home. it was a bit frustrating in the beginning trying to find her the right place because some of the nursing homes we saw was not up to our standard or the people were making it too difficult and being unhelpful in explaining the process. but after touring this place, it was an easy process from beginning to the end. the staff were really helpful in answering all of our questions. I'm sure we were one of those annoying families that had never ending questions lol but they didn't seem to mind! so far it's been a few months since she's been here and we are more than happy with her being here. I had my father admitted to Sunset Manor and as nervous as I was putting him in a nursing home I had the pleasure of meeting John Tao who was with me every step of the way keeping me well informed of the process and of course the care my dad received. From the moment John gave me a tour of the facility I was at ease seeing that the staff genuinely cared for their patients and how super clean the facility was inside and out. My father recently underwent a total knee replacement. He has always maintained a fairly active lifestyle, so my family & I were very concerned with how he would recover after the surgery. Thankfully, we found this facility through the recommendation of a family friend. He was there primarily for physical therapy for his knee. The therapist that worked with him were great! They really took their time with his rehab, but were able to push him to get all his strength and function back. We were surprised with how quickly he recovered after such a major surgery, and we have the therapist to really thank for that. The nursing staff did a great job taking care of my father as well. He was in a lot of pain after the surgery, but they made sure he was comfortable and were prompt whenever he needed his pain medications. Some nursing facilities we visited while deciding where to have him stay were smelly and not kept up well, however we never noticed that at Sunset. The facility was always maintained well. read more

A hidden nursing home gem in El Monte! I never thought there was a quality nursing home in El Monte until I came across sunset manor. The food looks great, restaurant quality and the nurses always seems very accommodating for their needs. I like how diverse this nursing home is. Sunset manor has really changed my perspective how nursing homes used to be.
