My wife & I were extremely disappointed by the behavior witnessed of an RN, Shailee, at this facility. I personally observed her speaking to staff members in a disrespectful and unprofessional manner, including yelling on the floor. Her behavior was noticeable enough that visitors were able to overhear the interaction. Unfortunately, this did not appear to be an isolated incident. I have witnessed her being unpleasant and disrespectful toward others on more than one occasion. Regardless of the circumstances, healthcare professionals are expected to communicate with coworkers respectfully and maintain professionalism, particularly in an environment where patients and their families are present. It was very concerning to see this type of conduct taking place around patients and visitors. Healthcare is supposed to be an environment centered around compassion, dignity, teamwork, and respect. No staff member should feel comfortable treating others this way, especially on the patient-care floor. I sincerely hope management addresses this behavior appropriately. Patients, families, visitors, and staff deserve to be in an environment where everyone is treated with basic respect and professionalism. read more

The front area always smells. When I went to Acute, they had this really nice guy who worked there, and I found out they let him go. I could not get them to give me an experienced employee for my residents, and when I asked for this specific worker, they said she had too many patients and could not help me. read more

I've had a family member at Whittier Pacific Care Center for some time now, and I want to share how much I appreciate the care they've received. The nursing staff and CNAs are kind, attentive, and truly dedicated to their residents. They treat patients with patience and respect, which gives our family peace of mind. In these past few months, I've also noticed positive changes in the way things are being managed. The administration seems more involved and responsive, and communication with families has definitely improved. It's clear that they're making an effort to enhance the overall experience for residents and their loved ones. No facility is perfect, but I can confidently say that the team here genuinely cares and that makes all the difference. Grateful for the compassionate staff and the recent improvements that are truly noticeable! I recently toured this facility and was very impressed. The nursing staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. It's a subacute facility, fully equipped with Respiratory Therapists (RTs), LVNs, RNs, and CNAs who provide 24/7 care for your loved one. The building has been renovated and looks great--especially the front entrance, which gives a warm and professional first impression. don't know where to begin. After seeing what was done to my mother, I felt as if my soul was broken to pieces. To even think there could be such people in this world. Before coming here, we visited this facility and of course the staff painted a pretty picture. My mother was here about 3 months. First few weeks, they call for everything to keep us in the loop of mom. With time that attention dies out so we had to constantly call and check on mom. In the last two days, she was transferred to the ER because she her hemoglobin was low. Upon arriving to the hospital, the main doctor took me aside and asked me when was the last time I saw mom, I said two days ago. My mother had severe bruising in her private area that went from her pelvic to the inside of her legs to the back of her buttocks area. I had never seen purple that bad in a body until two days ago. She said they would need to do more testing and will be transferred to another hospital. I had noticed demeanor change in my mom. More sad, more mad even. She had a stroke so she was non verbal. This morning was confirmed that she had severe trauma in her private and surrounding areas. DO NOT BRING YOUR FAMILY HERE! The staff apologized as I was getting her belongings and some who use to smile, turned the other way. CNA's, should have way more than only 4-6 weeks training to deal with a fragile human body let alone be in charge of one. NOT ONCE were we made aware that our mom had any kind of bruising in her body. I would really re consider ever bringing your loved one here. I would post pictures but they are too traumatic to see. My father was here for two weeks and I would NEVER allow him to come back. He lives in a senior Assisted Living apartment not far from where this place is and he was found on the ground. He was not hurt but when the asked him if he wanted to go to the hospital he said yes. Was sent to PIH for a week and then brought here. So why two stars? Well there are some good people here. There are good people everywhere but you are judged by all the people that work with your family member or yourself [if you could write a review]. Of the 14 days he was here I was here at least 12 of those days. My first and biggest concern was that he was completely lethargic which is unusual for my dad. At PIH he was given some psychotics drugs to help him go to sleep. It not only didn't work, it made him aggressive when he was awake, which was rare. So they removed it. When he got to WPC, I noticed he started acting drugged again and brought it up. They said that PIH had it as needed so they had to give it to him. OK, I get it but fortunately his PA came in and within an hour came back to the room and said he would no longer get those meds. And he didn't for about 4 days, all of a sudden he can't stay awake anymore and it turns out they tell me that no PA ever gave those instructions... which I followed up with "how come he hasn't had them in 4 days then?" Crickets. I demanded they stop giving the meds and after a few calls they confirm that even though they never got instructions they are now taking him off the meds again. Awesome, in the meantime his Assisted Living apartment management is going to come over and review what condition he is in and I get a call. "We can't review your dad, he can't stay awake". Yup, they gave it to him again. I made such a fuss that they were sure not to give him anymore. The management came over the next day and finally we were able to get him out of there. It took about a week to get these drugs out of his system. He is almost back to normal. Why almost, both PIH and WPC didn't want him to "fall" so they would not let him get up. My dad would beg to go to the restroom but they would not let him. By week 2 I would get him up and take him to the restroom. There is a window in the restroom so his ass was showing to the courtyard but he was grateful to go on his own. Anyways, because he could barely get up for three weeks he lost a lot of strength. In less than 3 weeks at his apartment he is back to walking at the park with me. He went in using a cane, he came out in a wheelchair. I started this review saying he had been found on the ground. He slipped off the edge of the bed. Could have happened to anyone, its happened to me. We all slip or fall from time to time but the result of going to PIH and then here was worse than the fall ever was. I mentioned also that the psychotic drug was the worst but there are other issues here. The clothes we brought would get lost even though we were taking them home and washing them. As I mentioned I was there almost every day and they would come in and say hello and see how he was doing but about 4 days into my dads stay a gentleman was put into the bed next to him. In 8-9 days of staying for about 2 hours per day I did NOT see anyone spend more that 3-4 minutes interacting with that man. Did not see 20 minutes over the whole time I was there. Another concern was that every nurse was new and didn't "know" exactly how the system worked. The problem here is management I believe. Don't get me wrong I understand how hard it is to get employees and to retain employees. Then again the people [from management to nurses] at his assisted living apartment I see have been there since my dad moved in late 2021. Stupid little irritants like having my wrong telephone number. Sure that can happen but we corrected it and it was still in the log. So if you opened the notebook on my dad to the most recent page it was correct but if you picked a page from the front, they were still calling my old number and then asking why I didn't respond. I can't really measure this against another skilled nursing facility. He has never been to another. One nurse did hear me complaining about the drug and quietly came over to let me know of another facility in La Mirada that I should look at. There are some good people here but there are NOT enough safety standards to protect the residents from real harm and neglect. If you have a family member brought here, please get involved. I get it; its hard and time consuming. I was taking a COVID test every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday so I could see him. I am blessed with that ability and flexibility with my time but I saw the consequences first hand of not being involved. BTW, not every person is a hero because they wear scrubs. A hero needs to earn that title, it doesn't come with the job! read more

I have unfortunately experienced all kinds of care as my uncle has been in care for about 10 years and now my mom 9his sister) is now headed for that same path. I have seen the good the bad and the very very ugly. This one has been so far one of the more decent ones. The staff have kept me updated, in the loop aand have cared very well for my uncle. I will say the food is def an issue. They need to do better for sure. This is the 4th home ( not including a private home) that he has lived in. People need to understand that there is no 5 star. These are places that house and care for the very frail and do the best they can. I hve toured about 16 homes now. There are some I would not leave my enemy at. Horror houses for sure. So, my opinion is hat this place is def a good fit for my uncle. I would have given a 3 star due to the food but the staff earned the 4th. Please get someone to overhaul your food/kitchen staff. read more

If I'm being honest this place doesn't deserve any stars. Shannon the Administrator is very unprofessional and doesn't know how to talk to people with respect and decency. The staff is all on their phones and doesn't do their job right. The RNs just leave the CNAs to do their job and is all about drama and making people feel uncomfortable. They talk back to the patients family with disrespect. I can go on and on but they are just a bad facility and should not be open. read more

Was looking around for a facility for grandma who needed short term rehab after a fall and found a great one in Whittier Pacific. Staff was professional, friendly, caring, attentive, and courteous. Couldn't have found a better place, grandma is now back home and thriving!! read more

My brother stayed at Whittier Pacific to recover from a flare up of COPD. He also has mental issue that make it hard to care for him. The people at Whittier were the best caregivers of any place he has been. I live in another state but they kept me informed about everything. They treated him with respect and care. I would rate all of the staff s 10 but Lala and Gabby went way above a 10. i would recommend Whittier Pacific as a great place to send your elderly family Members. read more

Chief Bernard is the best! He truly cares for the well being of the residents. He introduced myself and offered to cook what my dad would like to eat. He respected my father for being a Veteran. Went here to visit a friend of mine who had recently been admitted. I'd heard mix reviews of this place however found the facility to be upkept very nicely and maintained. Staff was very friendly and helpful. My friend has enjoyed their short time there and had nothing but good things to say. Definitely would recommend this facility to those looking for a skilled nursing facility. read more

DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONE HERE IF YOU CARE ABOUT THEM. My husband was there for 3 weeks for rehab from a back injury. His room was filthy and when he called for a nurse, it would take them between an hour to 2 hours to respond to him. He lost 30lbs - the food they served him was like slop and he couldn't eat it. I had to have him taken back to the hospital and from laying on his back for 3 weeks and now his legs have atrophied so badly it will take him much longer to recover. The administrator, Mary Ann, is extremely rude and her staff seemed to follow her lead so it was stressful just to visit. There is no leadership in Nursing or Administration which could have solved a lot of issues. I called the social worker and Mary Ann the week before I had him transferred back to the hospital and neither returned my call. 3 days after no call, I went to visit and MaryAnn came to the room my husband was in and said she needed to talk to me. When I asked MaryAnn why she didn't return my call, she said she delegates tasks like that and Then went on a diatribe about access to the place for 15 minutes. Unacceptable! I felt like she was taking her frustrations out on me and at the end of her going on and on, she only allowed me to stay 5 minutes to visit my husband and had Daisy (one of the young people in administration who had an attitude) stay at the entrance to the room to make sure I left. The therapy group seemed pretty good but if the head of therapy wasn't onsite, I didn't receive updates to his progress. There are much better facilities in the LA area than this terrible place! read more

This is an unsolicited review - When my brother-in-law was in need of a rehab facility, following a stroke and care at PIH hospital in Whittier, the family carefully reviewed facility options. We chose Whittier Pacific because of the immediate impressions gained upon the very first visit. The facility was clean and well maintained; the staff was welcoming, open, willing to answer any questions, and provided a top to bottom review of the facility. As an inactive Marine, and former engineer I'm a fanatic about details. That was only the beginning. They made it clear from the start: their goal was to provide the care and attention necessary to enable our family member to recover, and be able to leave as soon as his progress dictated, and not before. - Mission accomplished. The entire staff, from the main office to the expert rehab team, made us all feel like family. But special kudos to the rehab team who daily showed a personal interest and dedication that gave us all solid confidence and produced results. My 90 year old mother was there after surgery for a fractured hip. Physical Therapists Matthew and Myrna were awesome with my mom. They were patient, due to her dementia and hearing loss, and at the same time encouraging to get her on her way to walking. I wish we could have stayed longer, but insurance said she was ready to go. I am in my fifth week at Whittier Pacific Care. I am getting better and soon it will be a sad farewell to all the incredible pampering I have been enjoying. The staff has been wonderful, happy and caring. The food is delicious, prepared by a chef who sincerely loves his work and filling people's tummies. This is quite a large facility. There is even a wing where unfortunately end-of-life patients are looked after. Staff is always available and ready to care for your needs. In therapy, something I dreaded ahead of time, the therapists are not a nightmare but a dream come true! They work with you and never push you beyond your tolerance. My grandmother was a patient at this facility last year, she was transferred here to receive therapy. The facility is very clean and smells good. It is decorated very nice. The therapy staff was excellent and they did a great job getting my grandmother stronger so that she was able to return back home. read more
