    Amazing fresh abalone

Really friendly and amazing service at Monterey Abalone. We came down to try abalone sashimi. Service was excellent and they answered all questions that my curious kids asked. Highly recommend!

This company used to be reputable. I bought abalone a few times. Its tasted right, and their customer service was good. Well I spent $405 on 6 "xlarge" abalone and I am very disappointed. It is watery, the weight varied between 11 to 12 ounces when they first arrived. Once I took them out they drained so much liquid that they were probably HALF of The weight. They even taste like water, not abalone. It seems like they are pumping them up with water to add to the weight. Not even one of these is close to 1 lb as stated on their website. As someone who regularly would dive for abalone when it was still legal, I know my abalone! These people are scamming people out of their money. Drop the water weight and advertise what people are actually getting - tiny scraggly flavorless abalone. DEAD abalone that look like they have been dead a while. No way these are 8 years old as stated on your website. Not only that, but their customer service is terrible. Ordered early in the morning on a Thursday to be delivered Friday - as their website states is available and abalone were not shipped until the following Tuesday. I would not order from them again. Offered a measly $5 off a 405 dollar order. Pathetic.

My husband found this place for us to buy some fresh fish from while we were in town in Monterey. I've been coming to Monterey for over a decade now and never knew about this place. We bought a one pound abalone and it was rad! It was alive and they gave it to us with ice and oxygen so we could keep it alive and well until we took it home to cook. We husband chucked it a few days later once we got home. We cooked the little guy up on New Year's Eve along with some fresh giant prawns and some swordfish steaks which we also purchased next door. The abalone was amazing and an experience of a lifetime. The swordfish was also fabulous and we wished we got more of it. We'll be back for sure!

Wonderful find! Self sustaining abalone farm in the Monterey Bay! Found this great place while walking the wharf area of the bay. Super friendly and knowledgable people who run this natural sustaining abalone culturing. Picked up 3 pounds of abalone of different sizes and they kept them alive in oxygen infused bags w/ foam and gel packs. Amazing how fresh tasting abalone is from the ocean. These abalone eat green kelp and therefore you don't have to worry about any red tides / domic acid issues. They are delicious eaten raw (sashimi style), pan fried, and chowders. Definitely a must go to for any abalone lovers!

This is a cool place and the abalones are high quality. I bought a "1pound" abalone for $29.95. My main issue is that they weigh the abalone with the shell on. After removing the shell and guts the yield is about 2/3 pound with a resulting price of $43.56/pound. At that price, sashimi is probably the way to go. It's pricey but worth buying to support the industry.

    3/4 pound abalone.

Live abalone! And at a great price! We came in twice to get some fresh abalone and loved it! They provide great packaging that keeps the abalone alive for 36 hours! The 3/4 pound abalone was $26 per pound. 1/2 pound abalone was $24 per pound. Sometimes they have fresh uni and sea cucumber too!

This place is wonderful ..... Art gave us a great tour, we just love the whole operation, I grew up in Big Sur, and we used to get black Abalones off the rocks in November, best mines tides, the ones here are just as good as good as the wild ones, maybe even tender...

Fresh and delicious! I bought a pound (4 pieces) of fresh abalone yesterday and took them all the way back to the east bay. The staff pumped oxygen and put in dried ice to keep them fresh. They were in good condition when I made it home after 3 hours. I ate them raw, it is the most delicious food ever! I would definitely visit again.

Kelp being dried to feed the abalones!

This was a classic New England-style chowder done right. It was rich, creamy, and packed with flavor without feeling overly heavy. The sourdough bread bowl was perfectly crisp on the outside while still soft enough to enjoy with the chowder. Easily one of the top three clam chowders I've ever had. The New England Lobster Roll was a pleasant surprise. I'm usually not the biggest lobster fan, but I genuinely enjoyed this one. The bread was soft and buttery, and the lobster had a nice savory flavor with just a subtle hint of sweetness that balanced everything well. If you're a lobster fan, or even if you're on the fence like I was. I'd definitely recommend giving it a try. The only disappointment was the garlic bread. It was unfortunately over-toasted and very hard, so I'd probably skip it next time. Service was fast, efficient, and attentive throughout the meal. The restaurant was clean with a casual atmosphere, making it a great spot for a quick bite with family or friends. Overall, I'd happily come back, especially for that incredible clam chowder.

It's not a big place, and yet they still have a great ratio of staff to customers. We got there 30 minutes early and got in line about 20 minutes before 5 PM on a Saturday in July. When they opened we were the second party and there were about 30 people after us. Some had reservations and some were walk-ins like us. Once we sat down we got bread and butter and they took our order. Clam chowder was not thick how we like it. My husband was craving the curry snapper. My son had the holiday pasta. I had a special artichoke seafood pasta. We were all happy with our choices.

Also served with bread on the side. The sauce was good, but I think I would had preferred it a little less salty and more flavor. My partner got the cioppino,, which he preferred on the creamier side, but it was still good. I love the fact that it came with such giant clams. Most places only serve tiny clams, but these were giant size like clappers. It also came with fish, mussels, small octopusi, large shrimps, and some bread served on the side. Service here is also amazing. Sat at the bar and our server, Matthew, was friendly, engaging, and very impressive with how he handled the customer. He made sure they were all taken care of, water and bread refilled without needing to make the requests, and checking in on everyone few times throughout their dinner meals. He even helped out assisting with the rest of the restaurant if he ever needed to step in. Huge shoutout to Matthew!

We ended up getting some salami, bread, fruit, grilled salmon, shrimp, rice, carne asada burrito, and a goat cheese salad with chicken. Everything was so delicious! The salmon was perfectly grilled and not dry at all. The apricots we got were some of the sweetest apricots we've ever had. The chicken in the salad was a bit dry but mixed into the salad was better. It had arugula, goat cheese, dried apricots, pistachios, and a balsamic vinaigrette. The service was also great and every single person we interacted with was lovely. Such a great find for us :)

Employees receive a generous 25% off on everything in the store. You would genuinely appreciate the heavy discount and the savings you benefit from working there- as i do really appreciate there services. However they dont value there job. This is a direct message and management doesn't value there job either. Why would they its not there store. Poor service is really unacceptable when the prices are soaring. I like the convenience today friday afternoon was busy. The grass finished steaks were not stocked- indicating that they arnt keeping a close eye on there inventory. The raw milk has been out of stock for 3 days and will sell to a restaurant knowing that they wont get another delivery for a week when the supplier is located in salinas Raw keefer same thing. They should limit the milk when there not even a wholesale entity what an inconvenience And this isnt the first time. They employees rotate often- are let go- or just dont show up. There organic apples are delicious have you tried one yet? Buy two for $4.25 so cheap And when you get home theres only one in your bag that you supplied. Upon calling the store the gal said just come back sorry. Bring your receipt and that brings me to the complaint. When i asked the owner if this market was for sale she was quickly offended and replied no and its never been. Of course. I appreciate the service but the fake smiles are an indication that theres something deeper goin on here. When the man asked if id like a receipt i said absolutely not- remember this is supposed to be a fine health store-but alot of misleading surgery ingredients and the receipts are thermal paper but they will respond no we dont use that here. If rubbing a coin or finger nail firmly on the surface leaves a dark grey or black streak it is thermal paper. Mmh perhaps the store is in big trouble like a law suit and that would be a reason why the owner was dismissive with its never has been
