Loved this place! We were heading to the beach and looking for quick and healthy ready made food to take with us. It reminded me of a smaller Whole Foods in a way. We ended up getting some salami, bread, fruit, grilled salmon, shrimp, rice, carne asada burrito, and a goat cheese salad with chicken. Everything was so delicious! The salmon was perfectly grilled and not dry at all. The apricots we got were some of the sweetest apricots we've ever had. The chicken in the salad was a bit dry but mixed into the salad was better. It had arugula, goat cheese, dried apricots, pistachios, and a balsamic vinaigrette. The service was also great and every single person we interacted with was lovely. If I'm going to spend $14 on an average smoothie then at least fake a smile to my face and don't act like I'm a burden. Whole Foods is across the street. I am a grocery store snob. I prefer co-ops, but as there are none near, I figured this family/local owned store would be my best bet since we moved. The produce is awesome, clean, well labeled, and local, which is what keeps me coming in. Unfortunately, this is just not a real grocery store, it's more of a novelty shop for tourists. The store offers only one price range of items - if you don't want the $4-$5 can of beans, there is no lower end option. Different hot sauces takes up about 1/3 of an aisle, but you can't find sundried tomatoes in oil or more than a few pastas. It's unfortunate that I end up having to go across the street to whole foods to get pantry staples. I would rather shop locally. Also, many of the birthday cards have AI generated art. Can't find some local artist to make some cards..? read more

I really loved this place! Well designed exterior and interior plus lots of high quality products. I snagged the last butter croissant that they had in stock. I'm a fiend for buying the last item in stock, so this was nice. The croissant was so delicious. Perfectly crispy and golden brown with butter creaminess oozing out of each bite, without being overwhelming. It beats some high-end French patisseries that I've tried in San Diego, which is really shocking. I also grabbed a mixed berry smoothie which was just the right amount of sweet and very creamy. Went down super easy. Unfortunately they did not have the classic chicken pesto sandwich that I like to order at any deli place (it was sold out apparently) so I will have to wait and come back to try that some other time. There hot and cold prepared counter is divine. They have a cold prepared food fridge. I always get their Cobb salad. Again divine. They had a watermelon salad That is to die for and it didn't take. I had been noticing Elroy's ads for Heatable Eatables for a while now. We finally saw one that attracted us and thought, we have to try this at least once. We saw "Aloha April A Hawaiian Feast". Omigosh! This indeed was a feast. Every single item was delicious and there were 7 items in the package. We thought this was a meal for two for one night but we had at least 4 meals from this 'feast'. Everything was really well organized and came with Reheating Guidelines since all items are fully cooked. This "Heatable Eatables" offering is on the last Thursday of every month. They have a really nice selection of coffee, wine, granola, cheese and hot sauces, independent and foodie brands. The produce selection is also nice and from local farms and they have an extensive bulk selection. Sometimes ended up buying prepared food or produce that ended up expired or about to expire which was annoying and some of the prices are notably higher for basic goods. The parking lot is a little small and hard to turn around in. It's a nice place overall that is maybe not really practical for everyday groceries but is fun for unique food items and gifts. read more

Came in here just a few mins ago, not my first time here and definitely not my first time dealing with the rude aggressive staff who clearly do not want me in their store and are shocked I can afford their overpriced items. Whole Foods, Andronicos and any farmers market has these same items, Maxfit has the Big Squeezy juices and all with friendly staff. With the exception of the cool dude with the Deftones shirt everyone here is just awful even the customers pushing me out of the way while walking through the aisles and breathing down my neck while I look at items. I enjoy shopping at Elroy's. They offer unique and healthy items that supplement my diet. Yes they are more expensive but their food is amazing especially the selection in the fruits and vegetable area. The service though is not of a good standard. Specifically in the coffee bar. One person in particular working there has constantly been unfriendly and on a recent visit, I watched as they rolled their eyes at me after I made an order. We just finished our St. Patrick's Day dinner from Elroy's. Chef Hardie and his team prepared an amazing dinner!!! Everything was excellent from the Ad Astra soda bread w/homemade Irish cheddar spread, salad, plus the delicious Guinness stew to the Wagyu corned beef with cabbage, carrots and Colcannon. The bread pudding w/Bailey's cream and caramel was an awesome final touch!!! Chef Hardie does an amazing job but this was definitely a grand slam home run. read more

I've been going to Elroy's for several years and apologies I haven't written a Review. Shame on me. Elroy's is all about organic, sustainability foods. A rather small store, maybe compact is a good description but a place you can shop in without being "run over" with customers and people cramming the aisles with replacements, as does Whole Paycheck. Great produce but sometimes feels like form over function. Examples: lettuce- it's not washed and it is "large " format. Inconvenient to say the least. My issue with Monterey Peninsula is you have to go to 3 stores to get what you need. After a while you know which ones have the stuff you need but still 3 stores. I don't buy lettuce at Elroy's. Period. I never would use there meat department- no real butcher- there stuff comes in "cut"-they used to have great Fog Line Chickens but no more. None of their folks could cut in 8 pieces. Seriously. So what do I like? Good cheese selection. Ad Astra bread. Upgraded wine selection. Caviar prices cheaper than Whole Foods. Same brand. Coffee, Espresso coffees on site. Good grilled food to go or eat onsite. Very good selection of finer,unique condiments. Generally nice helpful staff. Consider them a high end larger than convenience store. They know who they want to be. That's good. Try not to compare to Whole Foods-10 times bigger. I go to Elroy's when I need to get in and out and my list is 10 items or less. I truly enjoy coming to Elroy's and probably spend a little too much time looking at individual items. The quality of each product is outstanding and you can tell the owners put a lot of consideration into what they're going to sell you. Their nuts and spices are fresh and delectable. I've been getting their roasted almonds and they're the best I've ever had (even without the salt!). It's fun to explore niche items and finding a way to incorporate them into your dishes. Their apples from local farms range from sweet to tart and no apple is completely alike. I also enjoy their Chicken Goat Cheese Apricot Salad. It's balanced, delicious and hearty. It lasts me about 2 days and my body feels thankful I consumed something nutritious. My favorite nut milks from Elmhurst are here and I can create the most luxurious golden milk and matcha lattes. Speaking of which, their coffee area is a nice treat I'll have before I volunteer nearby. Kayleigh makes the best rose matcha lattes I've ever tried and is so lovely to talk to. Although, every employee here is quite friendly and approachable. I found this market by chance and come in about once a week now. Yes, it can be a little pricy, but it's an investment into your health. As a biopsych student, I like to study about what we put in our bodies. Each element makes a difference towards our physical and mental health. At Elroy's I can rest assured I'll be eating something that will nourish my body and mind. read more

This store is way over priced. Being local we went in one time because we both love to cook and thought we might find some interesting ingredients. Weird selection of products, nothing one would really want or need. The store is clean and bright. I don't recall the service being anything to write home about. What my hubby said later was "wasn't that the store where we spent over $70 on one bag of groceries and didn't really get anything?" Yup, that sums it up. What a fun place to shop! Definitely hit this place up if you want to support local &/or are looking for fairly specific/niche groceries. For example, truffle microwave popcorn, cinnamon bun blondie bars from the bakery (AMAZING - no joke!), a huge selection of chocolate bars, bulk nuts, herbs, etc, fresh produce, or a delicious curated drink from the coffee bar. They truly have a little of everything, including house-made entrees, dips, snacks and desserts to go, and a meat counter that I've yet to check out. This store is a sparkling gem and a must experience! As someone who was born and raised in Berkeley surrounded by fabulous health food stores, I am deeply impressed by Elroy's at every level! The beauty of the store is delightful, including the high ceilings and the way the light flows through the space. Every item in the store is chosen with care and consideration, including using bulk bins that have metal instead of plastic. The staff are fabulous human beings who each bring their own unique flavor, gifts and charm to the experience of shopping here. Every single person I have interacted with on their team has provided me with fabulous customer care! I was planning a trip to Monterey with friends for Valentine's day and searching for a place for us to have lunch that had organic ingredients, if possible. In my search I found Elroy's and called to find out about the quality of the ingredients in their hot food bar. I was advised to call back and speak with Hayley. When I spoke with Hayley she responded to every question I had with deep knowledge, and when she didn't know something she looked up the answers as well as ingredients for me. She explained where they sourced their food and their relationship to getting local ingredients. I had never before had someone go into such detail with me over the phone about the ingredients they used for a store's hot food bar. I was sold! When we went on Valentine's day a beautiful human being named Evan provided us with the most radiant warmth as he served us the most delicious succulent feast, with one of the most delicious salads I have ever eaten and splendid grilled veggies and salmon which he heated up for us in an oven. I was so blown away by both the food and the service! After we ate I told Evan that I had rarely experienced a man who radiated so much warmth from his heart out into this world, and how much we need that. He was very touched and received my acknowledgement with a huge heartfelt smile. A few weeks later at a return trip to Elroy's, I got to meet Evan's son and daughter who happened to be at the store. That day Larry helped us with exploring what goat cheese Elroy's offers, and we got to talking and I learned that Larry had worked at Whole Foods in Berkeley on Telegraph, as well as the Oakland Whole Food's store. He shared how he loves working at Elroy's and working with dishes that are made from scratch and fresh, as compared to when Whole Foods hot bar transitioned to preprocessed food and he would open a plastic bag and pour that into the hot soup bar at WF's. I was deeply impressed by how much he values the quality of the food he is providing the customers at Elroy's. Thank you to each person at Elroy's who served me with such care, including Josh and Breenan! Thank you to the whole staff at Elroy's for your extraordinary customer care and for genuinely caring about the service you provide and providing people with high quality food! Their freezer broke today and I asked the barista if they have a blender and blend all the ingredients I buy from the store. She said it would be a lot of work and her manager said that they cant put ingredients thats not theirs (really???? I am buying the ingredients from them!!!)/ I think they are not very customer service oriented and they were talking behind my back laughing about my request. On top of it they said yes and then changed their mind after I bought all the ingredients. I am a serial entrepreneur and used to own a juice bar but I dont think these people in the juice bar were taking their job seriously. We enjoyed drinks (iced lavander oatmilk latte for me, and strawberry blueberry banana smoothie for my daughter) in between shopping. Bought some chocolate bars, biscotti, kitchen stuff, fresh produce & flowers. I came here primarily because I was on the hunt for Revival ice cream without the Revival lines & I was right! They had chocolate cookie Bees Nees ice cream sandwiches & other flavors in pint size. There was another local ice cream company, Moonstone, with various cookie sandwiches. Yum! We also checked out the food court area and tried the "elote," AKA flavored corn. That corn was okay on the cold, dry side, but it was tempting to come back for other foods, and the lady said anytime 11am and after should be good. We picked up some alcohol & I highly recommend the lychee lunar drink. Definitely a light drink but tastes so good. I also saw a coffee station and BYOJ station AKA the bulk station (pics attached of what they offer). This is a small grocer that reminds me of a farmer's market. They have a little bit of everything but are definitely priced on the higher end, but I suppose the goal is quality local foods so as long as "the shoe fits" then I suppose that's fine. However, they have a nice prepared food and beverage area with both indoor and outdoor seating. I think I will try some of their prepared food and sit in the cute patio the next visit. While the new grocery store may be in the "soft open" stages, there didn't seem to be any hiccups during our visit today. There was a very short line outside with friendly staff directing traffic. A short 5 minute wait and we were in the door (after using provided hand sanitizer of course). The produce section really stood out. I love apples and they had a great selection of local apples of about 6 different varieties. All were priced well around $2.50/lb which is normal farmers market prices. I havent been able to hit up the MPC farmers market for a while due to work, so this will be a great alternative! There was also a great selection of grapes and your usual staples. The other stand out was the wood fired oven. They were cooking some tritip and chicken as we looked on. There was a great selection of other grilled options in the food case. Corn, padron peppers, chicken, and shrimp skewers were all available. We ordered a charcuterie sandwich and veggie Bahn mi. Both were $10.50 and served on Ad Astra (Seaside) bread. They were light, but hearty and well worth the money. Their pick a number ordering system was flowing well, especially for a busy lunch hour. The center of the store had an espresso bar that offered coffees and smoothies. On the other side is what looks like a wine and beer bar with seating that is sadly closed "cuz of stupid covid" as a sign read. This is a great addition to the Monterey Vista neighborhood and a worthy successor to the previous grocery store. If you're thinking of going to that Amazon grocery store, think again and try this one out! read more

I went to Elroy's earlier today (Tuesday, July 29th) for the prepared salmon and cold slaw. Upon checkout, the young lady cashier asked if I needed utensils and a bag. I requested a box, but all the boxes were big, but I did have other purchased in my car so I picked one. The food was great, however, I remembered after dinner this evening that the cashier did not apply the senior discount - the primary reason I chose Elroy's today. Over the past month, the male cashiers have always asked if I 'qualified' for the 'wisdom' discount, I phoned about a half hor ago, and was bluntly told, I believe by the same cashier that checked me out, that no discount could be applied for this transaction, either now or in the future. Interesting that the male cashiers are on top if I qualify for a senior discount, but she did not - reverse discrimination anyone?? read more

Cute place to drop by for healthy lunch options. There are several packaged salads to-go on the left side as you come into the space. I got tElroy's signature salad that was a mix of greens, granola, cauliflowers, beets and some other stuff. If you feel like something healthy and nourishing and tasty... come here! Came by around 4 pm to meet a coworker for dinner. The main reason for coming was because they had vegan cheese and wanted to make ourselves a cheese board. The store is quaint and charming with helpful staff, big meat and cheese offerings, and a beautiful bar inside. As you'd expect, this place was pretty pricy since you're paying for organic/small business, artisanal goods. I think it ended up being around $100-115 for a loaf of bread, crackers, veggie chips, pickled radish, brie, gouda, x3 vegan cheeses, hummus, jam, chocolate, and two glasses of wine for two people. That being said, the snacks were great with the exception of the veggie chips and one of the vegan cheeses (you can't will them all). Come by if you have extra money to try the fancy versions of your favorite foods. read more

Elroy's is a cute little neighborhood market. I went one morning to check out the coffee/smoothie bar, as a friend recommended to try their chicory oat latte with maple, which was delicious. I arrived well before the confirmed bar closing time of 5 PM and was standing right in front of the bar, clearly looking at the drinks menu, when the employee behind the bar abruptly put up the closed sign at 4:50 PM (without acknowledging us). When I asked what time the bar closed, she responded with "it's almost 5". As I see it, you should tend to customers until the designated closing time.
