We had a very nice stay here. We travelled as a family of 4 and had a great time. It's very close to all of the fun activities. Although I can't speak to the food here because we decided to eat outside and explore the area it's a quick walk to a lot of fun activities like the Wharf, bars, food and more. The pool is heated and although it was a little chilly when were here it was still enjoyable. We didn't not park at the hotel because we didn't want to pay the extra $25, they were great with allowing us to park our cars and unload at the front and let us know there was parking a couple blocks away for a lot less. read more

Stayed over Memorial Day weekend. The staff is super accommodating and extremely nice. Restaurant on location has great food and also breakfast bar for the morning time. Literally 3 minute walk to the ward. Dog friendly and have a great pool and jacuzzi center of hotel grounds so no wind or cold affect the temperature of the pool. They offer valet parking from 25-27$ a night and the valley staff is very nice as well. Close walk to all coffee shops, shopping and restaurants. They also offer smart TVs. You can sighn in to all apps and other options in the room. All rooms have a great view and hotel extremely clean. read more

First time stay here and since we were only there for a night, I don't recall spending much time in our room. Provided us with the amenities we needed, room was clean, centrally located to all areas of downtown within walking distance and we left early the next day to play golf at Pebble Beach. It's walking distance from The Crown and Anchor so what more do you need than a great pub. Rates were reasonable and staff was friendly. read more

We just wanted to get of town for the Christnas weekend. So, e took Amtrak to Salinas and then they bussed us to the front of the MONTEREY Marriott. I have beemn a Marriott Rewards member for a long time, and I think this hotel is the top on my list. Had a lovely room with a great view of the bay. Monterey is one our favorite Web get away spots. Had a good dinner two nights in the bar and grill. All the staff here is wonderful, they do what they can to make your stay great. You will not go wrong staying at Monterey Marriott. read more

The worst Marriott hotel. Starwood corporation would be disappointed how this location represents them. The rooms have a smell. Front desk has horrible service. The general manager can careless how you feel about the staff. I stayed here a couple years ago and when it popped up as a suggestion, I had flashbacks how disgusted I was treated here. Moved from lovely Embassy Suites with free parking and hot breakfast to be mistreated by everyone here because we wanted to be near the pier. I stayed at the Monterey Marriott over Thanksgiving weekend with the bf after a long day of kayaking, and walking on the pier. Since I am part of their elite program, we were upgraded to a room with an 'ocean view' room and were given complementary continental breakfast vouchers, and also free wi-fi. The room was really nice, and was outfitted with a new bathroom, and also a pretty good view as promised. The wi-fi was really slow, so this is a small warning to those looking to use it heavily during your stay here. The breakfast vouchers for elites do not include the full buffet, and only the pastries and fruit, so we upgraded to the full bullet at $5 each. The hotel itself is surrounded by a bunch of cute cafes and restaurants, and also a jamba juice! We were able to find dinner, and lunch (the next day) pretty easily. The hotel itself only has valet parking and the non-valet overnight parking structure is a 10 min walk away, and also ~$10 per night. I would recommendation dropping someone off with the luggage to park if you are luggage heavy. Also, for those that are exploring the pier and staying at the hotel, I would recommend parking at the hotel first, and then going to the pier. It'll save you parking money at the pier, and it's only a 15 min walk. read more

We stayed here while I attended a work conference for 4 days. The staff was super friendly, the room was nice, clean and very modern looking. Turns out we stayed in a room they just renovated. The remaining hotel rooms that haven't been updated are scheduled for renovations throughout 2019. The hotel and conference rooms/space was very convenient in location. Literally took 5 mins to and from meeting rooms & hotel room. The pool and hot tub area are next to the gym (gym has limited weights) and had nice chilled towels, cold water and fresh fruits. I came here for my business meeting over the weekend and I have one recommendation. REMODEL!!!! Granted it is in a very good location, within a few blocks from the wharf, Marriott should spend some money and renovate this place. They still have the old shower heads, the old sliding doors for the bathroom. The toilet is so close to the toilet paper dispenser that you will hit your knee trying to sit down. The elevators are the old ones where it takes forever to call. The lobby bathroom is funny. I'm a tall guy so the urinals is ok for me. For those who are shorter like my friend, you might have to tippy toe. The urinals are pretty high. Watching my friend trying to take a piss on the high urinal was hilarious. I should have taken some pictures of it, but I think Yelp would have flagged it. From the bar to the restroom is a journal in itself. Again, if you don't plan on staying in the hotel except to sleep then this would work. read more

Instead of taking a trip, the wife and I decided to do a staycation in Monterey. So after a day at the aquarium we made our way here. When I pulled up in the valet area the guy asked if I was going to valet or self park. I have no idea where this self park area was. If it was on-site, down the street, on the street so just decided to valet. So we check in and get to our room and it's decent. We didn't have much of a view from our window, the only thing we could see was the pool. Whenever someone was in the pool we could hear them. Meh. Checking out was kind of strange. There was no TV check out so on our way out I checked at the front desk and they said I was good to go. Ok! Overall, I might stay at another place. While this place was nice it was pricy compared to other places and after seeing what I was paying for I'd try a different place out. read more

Just got back yesterday from a wonderful wedding weekend in Monterey. We ended up booking our hotel last minute, and I am SO thankful my husband booked at the Monterey Marriott. Location is everything!! We were right there next to Fishermans Wharf, where the food, shops, and seals kept us entertained on our first day. Restaurants galore, Walgreens, and a Starbucks right around the corner were also conveniently close. The next day, a short and FREE trolley ride took us to Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Aside from the great location, the customer service at this hotel was on point. As soon as we got there, one of the nice ladies at the check in counter let my 2-year-old pick out a small stuffed animal from a drawer filled with stuffed animals. Also later on that day, our keys weren't working (not a big deal), so the front desk gave us new keys and breakfast vouchers. Speaking of breakfast, the chef at the omelet station gave my son another stuffed animal! I thought the staff were quite thoughtful, and we really appreciated it. The only bummer was valet cost $25/night for hotel guests, but there is actually a $7/day garage nearby that valet told us about, and we did get lucky with street parking when we needed it. read more

Initially we were disappointed as the room we booked with a water view was unavailable due to renovations,and it was a special anniversary for us. However, Emily ,who checked us in not only reduced the room rate ,but also arranged for our meal from Fin and Field to be free and sent champagne and chocolate covered strawberries to our room. The room was wonderful, perfectly clean and comfortable. The bed was luxurious. Our meal from Fin and Field was amazing. I cannot recommend this Marriott enough. And because of the service we received we will ALWAYS choose Marriott first. read more

My experience at the Monterey Marriott has been marked by odd smells. Walking into the lobby, I was immediately greeted by an unpleasant but indescribable smell. Entering the room, we were greeted by horrendous cigarette smoke and quickly got a new room, which smelled like chlorine (still better than cigarette smoke). Then, after showering, I grabbed a towel, which smelled like some sort of bad chemical. Pulling my clothes out of a drawer after my shower, I found that they had absorbed yet another weird and unwanted aroma. The entire hotel has been remodeled and looks quite nice and very new. That is, except for the bathrooms, which clearly haven't been modified since the early 1970s and feels like stepping into an episode of Bewitched. On a side note, my bed was definitely broken and creaked quite loudly. The location is central, but you do pay for that, especially during the summer when everyone is trying to visit the peninsula. The best advice I can provide to anyone visiting: don't drink the tea. In the lobby there's a big container of "Iced Tazo Passion Fruit" tea. It looks delicious and smells superb. But, I'm convinced that it's actually made of potpourri because it smells so great and tastes absolutely awful. read more

We had a group of rooms blocked here for our wedding. Unfortunately I wish we had chosen another hotel. The only redeeming quality about this place is the event specialist, Nancy, who was really great to work with in setting everything up. However, the day arrives and we were greeted with the worst customer service of any hotel I have ever stayed at. We had booked a suite and at 3:00 it wasn't ready but we were told they would drop the keys off at the bridesmaid's room when it was done. By 4:00, having heard nothing, I went down to the front desk to ask about the hold up. I was told it would be another 45 minutes with a very insincere apology. Keep in mind that I'm a bride, who booked an expensive suite that was not ready even past check in time, needed to change for my rehearsal dinner at 5:00, and have two luggage charts full of wedding gear to get up to the suite. Then we get a call that they misplaced a box of the welcome bags (which they later found). I was not a happy camper and did not appreciate the way they handled things. My mother and several of our other wedding guests also experienced problems with staff at this hotel. I would highly recommend staying elsewhere. read more

Situated within easy walking distance, this property has recently undergone major renovations. Lobby is spacious. Staff has that Marriott "can do" attitude, and has always been helpful and courteous during my stays. Rooms are clean and all have the new comfy bed with a plethora of pillows. Neat stuff! Monterey is usually a day trip for us, and when we've stayed in the area it was at a different hotel. First off, let me say that it's an older hotel that has been remodeled. The beds are comfortable, the furnishings are great. The fact that my Marriott Rewards gets me free wifi where it would normally cost $7.95 a night is awesome. It's the tallest building in downtown, so you can't miss it. It's also just across from the wharf so location is GREAT! Monterey is typically much cooler weather wise than the Bay Area where we are from, and the fact that their pool is heated is bonus points, especially when you have a son that takes to the water like a fish. All of that brings them to 4 stars for me...here's where they get that 5th star: We checked out of the hotel and headed to Aptos for brunch. About 3/4 of the way, my son remembers that he left his stuffed animal in our room. My wife immediately calls the front desk and explains the situation and they quickly dispatch housekeeping to look. About 15 minutes later, the front desk calls, they have housekeeping in the room and they're asking where to look. (the stuffed toy is under a bunch of pillows on one of the beds). She tells them and they'll call us back. Another 15 minutes later and the call comes in...crisis averted they found the stuffy! We enjoy a leisurely lunch and drive the 30 minutes back to rescue our beloved friend who was waiting at the front desk. Great staff (even the valet were awesome) and amazing customer service always wins. When a company's employees can make a customer's experience amazing, the rest of the product - regardless of how amazing or uninspired it is - becomes secondary. Bravo, Monterey Marriott! I stayed at Monterey Marriot over Valentine's weekend. The place was completely booked (according to the staff); though I only saw like 3 other groups there, during my entire stay. Anyway, the check-in process and check-out process were easy and very smooth. The room itself was clean and tidy. They offer a couple of coffees and teas in the room; but note that the water will cost you. There's a TV (not huge, but big enough), an ironing board/iron, and a bible- all usual hotel offerings. The room felt pretty spacious, though the bathroom area was different than I expected. The sink area is separated from the rest of the room by a divider and then there is a separate room for the toilet and bath/shower. All of it was somewhat recently redone, so it seemed decent. They were undergoing construction/maintenance still so only one of the elevators was operable. This was kind of annoying, but it was fine. (We tried to take the stairs sometimes, but they are not direct and make you go in a really roundabout route.) The staff we interacted with were not super friendly, but they were fine. At one point, we asked if they had a DVD player to loan, but the girl behind the counter just looked at us with a very confused look and didn't really say much, so we assumed that meant, "no." Oh well. Notes: -Parking is only available as valet parking, and it's $20 a day (unlimited in-out). Since we took the car out most of the day, we got away with just using street parking during the night and saving our $20. - read more

Summary: Great Place to have a Wedding Reception This is a review of the Catering and Facility that we had for our Wedding, not about the rooms. To sum it up, the food, service, and facilities were excellent. We had about 60 guests altogether, and had the Ferrantes Bayview room on the top floor of the Hotel, which has an awesome view of the Bay and Monterey. I think they usually have an $11,000 food and bev minimum to reserve the room on Saturday nights, but they dropped that amount a lot for us, I guess because it was about 5 months away and usually weddings are booked out a lot further in advance (so they wanted to make sure they booked out the room). We had a personal tasting session to try out our entree choices and an appetizer. The Filet Mignon was great, but when we weren't thrilled about the Salmon, the prepared a Halibut for us to try on the spot, so we were impressed with the service and personal touch. On the day of the event itself, the staff was polite, the food was excellent (basically as good as during the tasting) and everything went smoothly. We didn't have a wedding coordinator of our own, but the package included the services of what was essentially a reception coordinator, and she was great. She helped to get the room arranged how we wanted it, and was there during the event to work with the Photographer, DJ, and catering staff to make sure the various activities flowed smoothly. We did get a room too (included in the package) and that was very nice, but it was a suite so I don't really include that as part of the rating. At any rate, if you are thinking of having a wedding in Monterey or the Bay Area, I would highly recommend the Marriott in Monterey. read more

Had my wedding reception here. It was PERFECT! The view from the ballroom at the top of the hotel is phenomenal. The room is basically all windows and you get to see out to the town and to the bay. The dinner that they served was so good that our wedding guests remember exactly what they ate. The rooms were comfortable and up-to-date. I did a lot of my wedding day preparations in my hotel room and it worked out fine. The event coordinator was really helpful and on top of things. Cannery Row is a simple walk from the hotel. I would love to come back here to celebrate an anniversary sometime in the future. read more

This hotel was actually one of the less expensive hotels during our time in Monterey. For the price, it was a good hotel. The bathroom was super clean and I like the fact that the vanity was outside of the shower area so that while hubby was taking a shower, I could be in front of the vanity. The bathroom was super clean. The only thing I didn't like was the valet parking -- when asking the lady working at registration, she stated that parking was valet only. I don't like to valet. However, one of the valet guys informed me of other options for parking and I really appreciated that and ended up parking right across the street. He even went across the street and stood in the spot until I was able to get to the spot. Now, that's service. If ever in Monterey again, I would probably stay here. read more

Overall, this Marriott isn't a bad place to stay. It's in a good location for checking out the local area, the staff are friendly, and the rooms are spacious. The valet was quick for us... We just called 5 minutes before we came down to the lobby, and my car was there waiting for us each time. However, the room is a mix of old and new, with a nice new shower, and a mattress that is way overdue for replacement. It was, by far, the worst bed I've experienced in recent memory, and I stay in hotels 25+ times a year. This Marriott's service is one reason why I will be a loyal Marriott patron for years to come. My stay at this particular location was particularly notable as the service and the customer loyalty were just incredibly impressive. I mentioned in passing that my new wife and I were in Monterey for the weekend to celebrate our honeymoon. Unbeknownst to us, the Front Desk Manager upgraded our room to a corner suite that, to date, is one of the nicest hotel rooms I've ever stayed in. As a person who travels frequently for work, I've logged over 700 nights in hotels over the past 8 years. This room was a cut above the rest with two floors of balconies and windows overlooking Monterey Bay. The location is unbelievable as you're in walking distance of everything in Monterey - specifically some of the best sea food and sushi you can get in California! My wife and I were then further surprised when the Front Desk sent up a bottle of wine and chocolate covered strawberries along with a hand written card signed by the entire front desk staff. What an incredibly personal touch that speaks volumes of the character and compassion of this location's staff. Kudos to them. We will most certainly be back again. read more

The age on this hotel is really showing, most noticeably from dated room design, older bathrooms with near-zero water pressure, and yellow stripe decor (see photos). Had a long wait for check-in, more than 10 minutes. Limited views from some rooms but nothing spectacular. Valet parking. Walgreens, Subway (the sandwiches) right nearby from main entrance. The room was nice and clean. Comfortable beds. A lot of late night noise outside. Sounds like there's a bar near by? Not really sure.. The bathroom doesn't have a fan so there's no ventilation in the room. Staying here with a room full of people ( our kids) was stuffy. The bathroom door is a pocket door and it's loud sliding back forth to close. Also it doesn't keep any bathroom noises quiet. :/ You can hear EVERYTHING! From check-in to check out.. Awful. It took us half an hour to check in because there was only one lady at the front desk. My boyfriend and I stood there with all our bags as she chit chatted with the people in front of us. Another lady came out from the back a couple times to grab things and did not even look our way. We were not acknowledged. No one said they would be with us in a few minutes. Nothing. When we finally checked in we asked where we could park since the hotel only offers valet and a lady named Ruby directed us to a garage a couple blocks down. We asked her twice if we could leave our car there over night and she assured us all the guests did it. The next morning we had a ticket. We asked to speak to a manager upon check out because we were a little irritated that we had been mislead. We were told by the front desk that there was no manager available. I personally find that hard to believe because I work in restaurant management and usually there should always be a manager on duty. We left our phone number and email and asked for a call when the manager was available anyways. Never got a call or an email back. We payed 200+ and a hefty parking ticket for a horrible experience. Pleasantly surprised that I rather enjoyed my stay at what I had been expecting to be a mediocre hotel at best. The room was spacious with plenty of windows with a nice view. As a Marriott person I tend to look for the brand when I'm traveling especially at the last minute. Being in Napa during the Earthquake and planning on being here on Monday I decided to head down a day earlier. Arrived and asked if they had a room which they did but they could not give me the same rate as my Monday rate only the Rack rate which was substantially higher. Oh Well worth a try. Rooms are "UPDATED" not quite sure what that means but they are clean even if furnishings and layout are completely dated from the dresser, to the TV to the horrendus lamps. Shower is all brand new but the toilet flush is a trickle reminds me of a 3rd world country. Don't put any paper in or the maintenace man will be up with a plunger. Lighting by the expansive dressing area is weak. Spacious closet and linens are fine but the mattress is not your top of the line in my opinion. All and all an OK Marriott but if had time to scout alternatives in the future I would have considered it as their Sunday Price Point doesn't warrant it.. We had a pretty mediocre experience at the Monterey Marriott which began with being snubbed by the front desk for our choice of room with a King bed. We booked our room through priceline and called before arriving to confirm that we would have a king bed since these reservations don't specify the room type. The front desk person confirmed our room by phone but when we arrived later that night we found out that they had either given our room away to someone else or had never actually put us in a king. What upset is the most is the manager actually tried to offer us a room that was closed for maintenance! She took us up to a room which had been "undergoing ozone treatment" to see if we could tolerate the stench. The odor was so strong we couldn't even take a step into the room and told her it wouldn't work. To highlight the absurdity, when we returned to the lobby the manager told her associate at the front desk "the smell was too strong for me too". Hmm, so even though you thought the smell was terrible, you still had us meet you upstairs to try and offer us the room?? Anyways, the front desk was eventually able to sort out the mess. They bumped a premier guest who had not checked in yet to a better room and then offered us their king room. It was as if the whole maintenance room thing never happened. We really appreciated that they were able to resolve the situation but there was some lack of professionalism in getting there. The room itself was very nice; it was one of their recently renovated rooms and the decor was great. The bed and furniture were also nice, as you can expect from most Marriotts. The only bummer about the room itself was that although it was renovated, the walls were super thin and you could hear entire conversations both in adjacent rooms and in the hallways. Additionally, the hotel is currently renovating its rooms and is expected to finish by Feb 2012. We heard a bit of construction noise in the morning and it would have been nice to know about the renovations ahead of time. read more

This place was beautiful. Clean, quiet and very comfortable. The night crew at check in was pretty nice but I didn't appreciate the snobby staff during the day. It took twenty minutes for someone to bring creamer to my room. Thanks. But my coffee was pretty cold by then. the wifi..... Now that's a problem. Not only do they charge for wifi but I couldn't use my iphone in the lobby unless I logged into their wifi. Really? I think the twelve hours I was there and the $200 I spent could have, SHOULD HAVE, earned me some wifi. read more

We picked Marriott downtown because of location. We usually stay in Marina or off the Highway. Amazing views of the bay from the 9th floor. It is just extremely loud. Jack hammers, people yelling, motorcycles. Tough to enjoy. That was compounded by a running toilet all night. If I was there for a conference it would be fine. There are a lot of other nice places if you are looking for a romantic getaway. read more

I stayed at the hotel for 3 nights with my two 20 year old sons, we were looking to explore not too far from our home so we could get in some good hiking, good food and in area that is safer vs a lot of other areas. I booked a room at the Marriott, we have stayed here in the past so I know it is close to everything. I also used to be a frequent business traveller so still have status at Marriott and benefit from some of the perks. The pros of staying at the Marriott: 1) Walking distance to restaurants, hikes and small shops. 2) Staff are super nice 3) Easy in and out valet, it was quite efficient we never waited more than a few minutes and the staff is terrific. 4) I was able to check in a little early so we could drop off our stuff before venturing out. 5) I asked for a 2 Bed queen City view on a high floor, I also used some of my points for an upgrade I did not get. I got a lower floor but had the option of waiting a few hours for a higher floor but even though it was floor 3 (out of 8) we had a good view. 6) Rooms are very clean and decent size. 7) We had two breakfast vouchers so the breakfast buffet worked really well, great food but I definitely would not have paid the rate if I did not have the vouchers. The cons: 1) Very very noisy. The walls and windows are very thin so you can hear everyone on the side of you, below you and above you and the very very loud seagulls at 4am. It is an older hotel and could use a bit of sound proofing. None of us slept very well we were woken at night with kids running in the hallways or people slamming their doors or people who had their tvs turned up and 4am every morning by the seagulls. I always expect some noise at hotels (and use earplugs) but the walls were thinner than most. 2) Check in. I went in online and had a few vouchers were I could request a room upgrade so I did. The person checking me in said that is odd it is showing at pending status but she said but perhaps you got a partial upgrade. I asked what the 'upgrade' part was as she told me we had a room on floor 3 with two queen beds and she said it was 'queen' and not 'full' beds. I told her I booked queen. She looked at me as if I was lying. I asked if I would get the vouchers back and she said she needed proof that I booked queen rooms so I pulled out my phone and showed her the booking. It is never a good idea to assume a customer is lying and she should have been able to see what I booked, if she could see the status was stuck in pending then I clearly had not gotten the upgrade. I get during the pandemic they are cutting down on room cleaning and I am fine with that, I usually select the environmental friendly option of less cleaning anyway, but if they know we are going to have 3 adults for 4 days they should stock the right amount of toilet paper and shampoo. They tell you you can call and request which we did but you are still paying a lot per night so why not just stock things appropriately knowing people will need stuff or ask the staff to just drop it in the room on day 2. read more

Hotel is situated in a nice and convenient area of downtown Monterey and just a few minutes away from Fisherman's Wharf and Cannery Row... both are within walking distance, although the wharf is considerably closer of a walk than the row. Staff was very hospitable, got a few special perks for being a sliver elite member. Valet parking was a little on the pricey side, but they were very accommodating and quite prompt about bringing the car around. Had to pay for internet in the room, which is a bit of a bummer, considering other Marriott's I've stayed in now all have free wi-fi. The room we stayed in had a great Bay view and overlooked downtown Monterey. Hotel rate was up there, but comparable to other hotel rates when I scoped out where to stay for the weekend trip. Easy access to all parts of Monterey made it a very convenient hotel to stay at... I was even able to go for a trail run along the Bay, as the hotel is situated right along side the main recreational running/biking trail. read more

Customer service was amazing. Hands down. My fiance and I had Monterey Marriott on our list of possible wedding venues. However, we juggled the thought of having a wedding in Monterey or up North. It was definitely a hard decision. What made it harder was, we received superb customer service on our visit. We had decided last minute to visit and stay to check out their venue. From the front desk to the events/sales manager, their customer service was spot on. The location was amazing. We literally walked across the street to their wharf area and back after dinner. Elevators were quick and prompt. No standing waiting forever and deciding you'd have to take the stairs. So why didn't we pick this as our venue? Hard choice.. it was truly one of our top picks. Especially if you see the ballroom upstairs. Absolutely breathtaking of the entire Monterey 180 view. We had decided to keep our wedding in the Bay Area. Making a trek to Monterey would have been a little hassle for some guests and especially with our guest count, it wouldn't had made it easy. However, I do look forward to staying at Monterey Marriott again when we visit. Superb service. read more
