    Breakfast one day

Long Story short, this motel provided us a decent no frills stay in Downtown Monterey for a reasonable price. Visually there wasn't much to see. The outside of the inn is maintained but it's very old school. Inside it's updated but the color choices aren't very bright or welcoming. Cleanliness was fine. I always wipe down hotels when we arrive, and everything was pretty client except the hardwood floors. But I didn't expect the floors to be that clean since housekeeping would be cleaning with their shoes on. Location it's very close to downtown. There were plenty of restaurants that we could walk to in 10 minutes There was a Trader Joe's as well. We were also close enough to walk to the free Trolley stop in about 15 minutes (with 2 slowish children.) The trolley takes you to Fisherman's Wharf, the aquarium, and places like that. The staff were very friendly, inviting, and welcoming. Sterling checked us in and he was super upbeat and informative. The free breakfast was just enough to get us going It was very simple, but it was a full breakfast. The highlights for us were the waffles, my son loved the yogurt machine. The bacon is super thin and the eggs were watery/probably powder eggs. Also there are some times when it gets pretty crowded in there. So plan accordingly. They have indoor and outdoor seating. I kind of like the set up of the room with the bathroom and closer "around the corner." However the area for food is right next to the bathroom. So if you're prepping any food, you either need to do it at the bathroom sink or at the table across the room. A small table next to the fridge would've been nice. However it was nice to have the mini fridge and microwave. For the most part it was quiet. We requested an upstairs room on the end of the hotel and they gave us that. We were nervous to walk around because the floors are thin and we didn't want to bother the people under us. But I don't think they put anyone under us. I could see it being loud having people run/walk on the walk way. But thankfully most of the time it was quiet. If you have a large/wide car, it is a tight squeeze to park on the lower lot. We didn't have any problems, we have a 3 row suv. But anything bigger would be a tight squeeze to maneuver around. I wouldn't be totally opposed to staying here again, but if I had a little more money to spend, I'd prefer to stay somewhere a little nicer. But our stay was good and I have no complaints.

I'm glad I decided to book a night here because everything was great. I researched a lot of different hotels in Monterey and Carmel. But this Best Western won me over because 1. Free parking 2. Free breakfast and 3. Pool and jacuzzi for my children. We walked in and pleasantly greeted by Alan right away. Check in was a smooth process. Alan was great and explained everything we needed to know about the hotel. Tony was also very friendly and helped us with the coffee/hot chocolate machine when it ran out. We stayed in room 115 which was perfect because it was the first room just around the corner from the front desk. Next to the hot chocolate machine which my son was addicted to! Ice machine just a few feet away. The pool & jacuzzi was right outside the front doors. The beds were comfortable. The pillows were soft and I didn't wake up with a sore neck. The room was perfect for the 3 of us. There was coffee and fridge in our room. The shower head was very high and couldn't be adjusted. The water pressure was ok. Wasn't too loud during our stay, couldn't hear any neighbors. Breakfast was good. There was a lot of different choices. Pancake machine. Yogurt station (my favorite). Toast. Orange and apple juice. Eggs (kinda watery? No flavor?), hash brown (wish it was crispier) and bacon. Cereal, bananas and apples. A lot of seating inside and outside on the patio. I know we only stayed one night, but it was great. No complaints. It was walking distance to restaurants. Short drive to Carmel beach and fisherman's wharf. The kids really enjoyed the pool & jacuzzi. Jose was very nice and made check out process easy! Thank you BW!

Upon check in, staff was great. Our room wasn't ready, as we go there early but we ended up exploring for a bit and ate dinner then headed back. When we came back, they greeted us with a smile and re-explained breakfast, wifi, pool/hot tub, etc. rules again. Parking was around the building and it wasn't very packed. We were able to find a spot each time. I loved how the elevators didn't make you pass through lobby. We could go straight to the floor of our room after parking. There is a bunch of cameras on the parking floors, if safety is a concern. The room was located on the 3rd floor and to our surprise we didn't really hear folks walking around. The room was HUGE with a bench, couch, and chair. It was fairly clean and not as dusty as other hotels. The bathroom was clean and the shower was a walk in which could use a little scrub by the drain area. Please note: our room did not have AC only a ceiling fan so that was new since I love keeping my hotel rooms cold. The room had a small step out area so we were able to get some breeze in the room and saw a rainbow! How fun! Our only suggestion is get to breakfast early! We walked in during peak hours and there was ZERO food left just yogurts. So wake up and get food!!

I love this hotel for both personal and business travel. It is in a great location where you can still walk to everything downtown or on the wharf and easy to leave in your car and drive in any direction needed. All of the hotel staff is so friendly and helpful. The rooms are always clean and the large slider doors to a normal or small balcony are my favorite. I love being able to open up the door and let fresh air in or enjoy my dinner on the balcony. They also have a fancy coffee machine and 24hr tea bar in the lobby which is perfect on the go or to bring up to your room. Overall, my go to place to stay in Monterey

    Bed bug on the bed

This was by far one of the worst hotel experiences we have ever had. During our stay at Best Western Plus Monterey Inn, we found not one, but TWO bed bugs on the bed. This is an extremely serious hygiene issue and completely unacceptable for any hotel, especially a branded property. We immediately reported it to the front desk, but instead of taking responsibility, the staff had a poor attitude and told us to contact the manager ourselves. There was no urgency, no apology, and no proper escalation. We then spent nearly TWO HOURS waiting for a resolution, only to be told that housekeeping would simply replace the bed sheets. This response was shocking and demonstrated a complete lack of understanding of the seriousness of a bed bug issue. At that point, we no longer felt safe staying in the room and requested to check out. Even then, there was no meaningful assistance offered. We were left to find another hotel at the last minute, traveling with children, which made the situation even more stressful and frustrating. Although a refund was eventually provided, it does not make up for the time, stress, and inconvenience caused. The lack of professionalism, poor response, and disregard for guest safety were deeply disappointing. We strongly caution other travelers to think twice before staying here. This experience shows serious issues with cleanliness standards and management response.

This has been the nicest Best Western we have stayed in so far. We always have pretty good luck with cleanliness and price with BW, so we usually stay in them if they look pretty good. This was our first visit to Monterey for 4 nights. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice our stay was. The positives: - The front desk staff were very nice and friendly. - They have easy underground parking with an elevator which has access to your floor. - Coffee espresso machine and regular coffee 24 hours a day. - Room was very clean. Separate sink from shower. - Nicely decorated. Plug ins on the lamps make for easy charging. - Great price for Monterey. - Great location for walking to downtown and the cathedral. - Decent breakfast. Better than others. A yogurt machine to make parfaits. A nice way to reduce plastic single use containers. - Very close walk to liquor store and convenience store. A little further to Trader Joe's. The cons: - No bathroom in lobby. I got sent to the basement which is the employee bathroom. Kinda scary and not very nice or clean. Why no lobby bathroom?!? - No air conditioning. Luckily we were able to open a balcony door to let cool air in. Be aware if you like to have full climate control. - Walls are very thin. It is very easy to hear neighbors talk and tv's. - The door to the room lets in a lot of light and noise. I wish there was a better way to make that tighter. The positives definitely outweigh the negatives to us and we will definitely be staying here again.

Had a great stay here earlier this year. Searched plenty of places to stay ahead of time of course, and this Best Western Plus seemed to have the best balance of requirements. This location had many great things going for it and I would gladly stay here again if ever visit Monterey again. - Convenient location for hitting the aquarium/cannery area, as well as hopping on freeway to explore Carmel and on south. (fyi. Point Lobos State park was awesome) - Great value in the area. No real need to pay the high prices near cannery for a room you just come in to sleep in. - Spacious and clean room. Separate sink outside of shower/toilet area. * only negative was the loud exhaust fan in the bathroom, but wasn't bad at all when door is shut:) - Ample wide parking under the building (give them the car License Plate# when checking in). The lot was open and airy and had direct elevator access to rooms. - Included breakfast was great! I was a snob and didn't think breakfast would be any good, so went out to eat at the famous breakfast place near the aquarium. The next day, kid was hungry early so went down to try the breakfast. Wow! Everything was fresh and delicous! sausage bacon hash brown the breads and the spreads were fantastic! sourdough slice toasted great and was excellent with the butter. bagel toasted with cream cheese was so good. Not sure where they get the breads and creameries, but I was especially delighted by the butter and cream cheese... coffee was plenty good too. there was a pancake machine, but I don't really eat pancakes. kid enjoyed it:) Definitely regretted paying for the pricey breakfast outside the first morning. The Best Western Plus breakfast had the necessary core food items that were quality and delicious. My kid LOVES BW Plus, it's all he talks about. Had to go to another BW Plus in Socal recently so he could have his favorite breakfast. (I secretly became a fan of BW Plus breakfast myself. was great at 2nd location too, lol)

Decent and affordable. The front desk was very friendly. We arrived a little early on a Saturday and had an easy check in. Our room was an upgraded king with a gas powered fireplace and a balcony. A little ways from the wharf but you can still catch the horizon of the ocean. Not thrilled with the breakfast but you get what you pay for... free.

Hotel staff were very friendly and professional. This time we had the oceanfront room with the sofa bed. Beautiful views, of course, from the balcony. The room was clean, however there is an ant problem in the bathroom. It was not too bad, but we still weren't thrilled to see an ant here and there crawling on our things in the bathroom. It is strange that they use cloth shower curtains, so every time you take a shower they get soaked. Some toiletries are provided, but not as many as they used to. They used to give lotion, shower caps, shower gel, etc. Now it's just bar of soap, shampoo and conditioner. The bathroom is nice, though, with double sinks. Sofa bed worked out great for our 8 year old. She said it was comfortable, and we were also comfortable in the king size bed, which had a firm mattress. It can get noisy in the room with the balcony door open due to the seals and seagulls, but closing the door blocks most of the sound. We kept it open in the day and shut it when we went to bed. Breakfast - well, I guess you can't really complain too much when it's complimentary with the room, but it's really nothing to write home about. Hard boiled eggs, fruit plate, yogurt, and some muffins. Me, being a diabetic, I couldn't really eat any of it, except the eggs. Our daughter enjoyed it, though she is pretty easygoing. We had been hoping to save some money by eating breakfast at the hotel but we ended up eating breakfast out every day we were there. Be prepared to do A LOT of walking because this hotel is at the very end of Cannery Row -- although it's great exercise, and gave us a chance to work off all the calories from our meals. lol. The room was nice, we'd probably stay there again. One thing we were disappointed about was the hotel used to offer a discount if you bought aquarium tickets through them. They no longer do that. They also used to offer free bottled water in the room, which they also no longer do.

When we decided to extend our stay by an extra night, our harbor-view room wasn't available for the additional night, but they went out of their way to make it work so we didn't have to switch rooms. We really appreciated that! Parking was also very reasonably priced at $25, especially compared to other hotels in the area. The room itself was spacious, the bed was very comfortable (firm, just how we like it), and the harbor view was absolutely perfect. We were a little concerned after reading reviews about the sea lions being noisy, but we actually loved hearing them from the balcony! Once the balcony door was closed, we couldn't hear them at all, and they never disturbed our sleep. One of our favorite perks was the complimentary binoculars available to guests--they were a fun touch for watching the harbor. And don't miss the sunrise from the fourth-floor rooftop terrace--it's absolutely beautiful! There were just a few minor things that could be improved. The hotel only has one elevator, and it can be quite slow during busy times. We also wish the freshly baked cookies were available throughout the day. They were put out around 3:00 p.m., but they disappeared almost immediately because they were so popular. When we arrived, our room temperature was around 78°F. We called the front desk to ask about the A/C and were told someone would come up. Security arrived and explained that the hotel doesn't have air conditioning, so the options are to use the fan or open the balcony door. It would have been helpful if the front desk had shared that information when we called. We left the screened balcony door open while we were out the next day, and the room cooled down nicely. The only other thing we wished the room had was a microwave. Overall, these were very minor issues compared to everything we loved about our stay. The location, views, comfortable rooms, and outstanding customer service made for a wonderful experience.

Check-in was rough right from the start. There was a long line of people waiting, and while there were 4-5 employees at the counter, only 2-3 were actually helping guests at any given time, so the line just kept growing. Once I did get up to the counter, the staff member who assisted me was very friendly and helpful with any questions I had. The property itself is very poorly laid out. It feels like a maze of separate buildings that you have to constantly use your keycard to move between, and you even have to cross a public road to get to the pool, spa, and gym, which is not great, especially if you are just in a robe. I had a courtyard-facing room, which is also fully accessible to the public, so I did not feel super safe and while that likely explains the two security cameras directly facing our patio, it did not exactly create the most relaxing or welcoming environment. The gym is pretty expansive and has a good selection of weights and machines but the pool was such a disappointment as it is very small and feels more like a motel pool, partly because of the detached location but also because there is a parking lot and freeway directly behind it, so all I heard was constant honking while I was there. It is also unsupervised, and during my time there, there were way too many kids running around and constantly diving into the hot tub, which did not seem safe. Our hotel room was fine overall, but we did find numerous stains across various chairs, and the AC was incredibly loud whenever we had it on. The water pressure in the shower was very strong, which was great, but the sink and counter felt like they were at an oddly high height, which was fine for me as a taller person but would probably be inconvenient for someone shorter. The only saving grace of my stay was when we stopped by Peter B's to grab some drinks before dinner. The staff at the bar were super friendly and really pleasant to engage with, and we even ended up taking a crowler of one of their local brews home with us. Overall, while the location is excellent our overall stay was a pretty mediocre experience and certainly nowhere near worth the prices they are charging at over $500 for one night plus parking. This is absolutely not a 4-star hotel, but much closer to a 3 or even 2.5-star property.

One of the highlights of our stay was how the hotel carried such a unique atmosphere and history. It wasn't just a place to sleep--it felt like part of the adventure. Between the ocean views, cozy spaces, and local touches, it really captured the spirit of Monterrey. And then there were the ghost stories. Whether you're a believer or just love a good tale, they add an extra layer of fun and mystery to the stay. If you're someone that believes (or not), go to the front desk and ask for the "book". It had 78 pages of first hand accounts of unexplained happenings from guests. We had a very small moment ourselves, while I was sharing what I uncovered about the ghosts with my significant other in the morning, suddenly the bathroom light just turned on. Nobody was around and they do run on sensors. Not a significant event but certainly was well timed. Overall, Hotel Del Monte struck the perfect balance between comfort, history, and a touch of playful spookiness. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting Monterrey that has access to a military installation--especially if you're looking for more than just a hotel, but a memorable experience.

I understand this will happen on a naval academy base, but I wish we were warned about upon check-in just so we were aware and not startled in the morning.
