I've eaten at the Smyrna Monterrey and I believe I've tried other ones too, but for some reason this one in Douglasville off Hwy 5 is not on my good list. It was later in the evening say 9pm. I ordered food and one of their Margaritas. Thankfully I did not get a huge one because it tasted horrible. When I mentioned that to my server he basically said too bad it's alcohol and I had to drink what was poured for me. It was basically some sort of premixed Jalapeño margarita that was brownish in color with an unpleasant taste. I love Jalapeño margs., but this one was not delicious. I tried a couple more tiny sips, but it was NOT going to be possible to drink. My actual food was eh. I believe my food order was slightly wrong. Plus, it wasn't any exciting so I didn't take a pic. As this is a chain (at least locally), I have frequented other iterations of Monterey in the past. There is currently no branch near where I live, but we were in this area at lunchtime and given that our first choice for Mexican had closed recently, we discovered this location. It is on Buford Hwy inside the perimeter (within a half mile of 285). They have their own parking lot, which is not huge but is probably adequate for the size of the restaurant. They have a patio out front, but it was cold the day we visited. Inside is just one large room with tables and booths. The place seems to have been there for a long time, but I don't mean that in a bad way. Service was quick and friendly. They seemed to tag-team the effort, as different servers showed up for ordering, water, food, etc. It worked fine. The menu is what you see at similar long-standing Mexican places. I tend to gravitate towards the combos. My wife got one as well. I thought it was slightly odd that the tacos came out first and separately. This isn't a complaint; it actually might be a better approach generally, but I hadn't seen it done this way before. We were still enjoying the tacos when the rest of the combos arrived. Getting the to-go containers and the check was also easy. Prices were reasonable. I'd consider returning here if I were in the area at a mealtime. read more

I had a family member pick up an order for me and bring it home. I was craving authentic Mexican food. The food was just ok. I ordered Nachos because a surgery prevented me from eating heavy food. When the Nachos arrived home, they were very soggy. I ordered Mexican street corn, it was bland and I'm used to it with cilantro, but that's ok, it didn't show cilantro in the pictures. In fact, I didn't see cilantro in any of their pictures. Doesn't some authentic Mexican food usually have at least a sprinkle of cilantro? I actually thought I'd give this place another try by ordering something different next time. But then I noticed on my receipt that I was charged a "To Go Fee" and a "Card Fee." Powder Springs location: the food is good for the most part but the customer service is terrible at this location. i've been to several locations and this one was just awful on a friday night with 6 people at the very most dining in. i asked for the 3 steak tacos with rice and beans (comes with 3 tacos lettuces onions cilantro cheese) i would pay for the pico sour cream and guacamole on the side. i wasn't able to order the combo because i wanted flour tortillas instead of corn so now i would have to pay for the rice and beans and all the toppings including lettuce cheese and onions. i know that didn't sound right the manager came and told me sorry for the inconvenience he doesn't speak english very well. they didn't even ask how i wanted my steak cook. i'm just over at this point i just wanted to pay and take my order home. i asked for some chips and salsa to go and the server told me i can just take the ones from the table. i went to the front paid for my food and waited on my to go boxes and he only brought me one. and proceeded to hover over me just standing there watching me me pack everything up i didn't say anything but after five minutes why are you still here and you have another table you could be checking on. i paid 15 minutes prior to this his response for hovering over was "im just trying to make sure you have everything you need." when he didn't even do that before. it was just weird and disrespectful. i won't be back. i read more

I came here on a Friday evening and was seated and greeted immediately. My drink order was taken pretty quickly. We were given salsa and tortilla chips, however the tortilla chips were stale and we had to ask for a replacement. I ordered the margarita pitcher and it was great. For dinner I ordered the shrimp tacos. The food came out very quickly and very hot. My shrimp had great seasoning on it. I wanted to order avocado but my waiter did not come back. I asked another waiter to send our waiter back. He finally came back and I got my avocado 30 minutes after our food came. Although the server was very friendly, he forgot to check on us after a while. I ended up taking most of my food to go so I could warm it up and add my avocado when I got home. I don't give out 5 stars alot. We come here on Tuesdays of course and also on the weekends when I can't decide on what I want to eat but I know the service will be fast. Everything we get here tastes great. From the tacos to the fajitas to the quesadillas. All yummy. Never fails. Service is friendly and fast. The food was just as good as I remember when I lived here several years ago. We picked up food to go and the process was easy peasy. Those ordering takeout are not allowed inside. There's a table setup at the door and a on option for you to scan their barcode and the menu pops up on your phone. We ordered tacos, queso, arroz con pollo and one with steak. I have frequented this Resturant both in person and take out. We normally get the chori queso, fajitas (steak), chicken soup, burrito. The last time we did take out- was definitely the last. The food was dry, the meat undercooked and so was the rice. The only thing that was decent was the chori queso. I really like this place. I go here specifically for esquite and their chunky guacamole but they also have good tacos and margaritas!

This was a fun place to go with work friends in Atlanta. They had a band come around and sing songs while you had dinner. Very intertaining. If I can post videos of them I will.
