Wow what a great Mexican restaurant! Beautiful scenery along the river. After a long drive from the Grand Canyon we were ready for a drink. I don't usually like when they bring out one of those really large margaritas because that often means, lots of sweet and sour and little tequila. Not the case here. 1. Excellent location. 2. Food was decent 3. No soap in bathroom. Not even an empty container on sink or on wall. How are the cooks and waitresses washing their hands? 4. They wrap the napkins in red paper napkin rings. Unfortunately, these are found all along the fence by the river. I'm sure they're in the river too. There is no need for these paper napkin rings. I am sure they blow off the tables and people are too lazy to pick them up. I guess they are just left. So if you're sitting by the river, you're sitting by trash. Sad. I picked up a bunch. Came out here to Dolores after talking with a coworker- thankful we did. The ambiance is very casual with tables indoors and outside. Picnic tables sit next to split rail fence on the river side. The breeze blowing was refreshing after being in a rather warm school building all day. The patio is beautiful, right next to the river and the lights make is really pretty in the evening. The bar area and pool tables were nice. It's a shame that there isn't a better restaurant here. The last place had bomb pizza and the atmosphere was great. The service was lackluster. The waitress was nice and she also got my order wrong. It happens I get that. Otherwise, she gave us satisfactory service. The food was edible, but there wasn't much flavor. The chips and salsa was good. My kids' friend got a shrimp fajita salad and it was mostly filled with mushrooms and onions because I think they were almost out of shrimp. At least that's what the kitchen told the waitress and she told us that.. So the friend doesn't like mushrooms so she was still hungry. They asked my kid if she could have a slice of his quesadilla, a quesadilla I bought him in addition to the bean burrito I bought him because he was still hungry. The portions were small. To them a quesadilla is one tortilla folded in half and they are wanting to charge over $12 for it. To me that is ridiculously overpriced. They describe it as a large flour tortilla. It was not. It was probably close to the same size as the tortilla we got for our fajitas. And btw they only gave us one container of tortillas to share between the two of us even though my friend specifically asked for flour and corn. A quesadilla at any other Mexican food place is two tortillas fried with cheese in the middle. The bill was $80 + for three people. So needless to say won't be going there for food again. Like it didn't make me sick or anything, but it felt like I got ripped off. So little food for so much money. I would probably go back for drinks(if they aren't overpriced too) and to play pool, but I would eat somewhere else first. I'm not trying to be a jerk. I could have been much more critical and I think people should appreciate that. But I do want people to know how my experience was in case they think about going here. I don't have a lot of money so when we do get to go out for dinner, I want great service and portion sizes large enough so we have leftovers. That's how you feel like the money you've spent was well worth it. And I did not experience any of that satisfaction at this establishment. read more

What a wonderful surprise this place was. We were staying in a Vrbo just 3 tenths of a mile from here. So we were glad we could walk, because we knew we would be having drinks. Well, we liked it so much we didn't go have pizza the second night but came back here. We all live in California and have great Mexican food. This food was as good, if not better. Everyone loved their meals, and the drinks (VIP margaritas) were outstanding. We sat outside the first night. It's right on the river and it's lovely. The second night we sat inside. The way they did the decor was so cute, and so authentic . Both our servers were very good and nice as well. Night one was Sonia, and night two was Alexis. This is a great place. After a long day of hiking and driving, it was late, and we were tired and hungry. We drove past this restaurant, and my instinct was activated. It had a good crowd of people in it at almost 9 pm. My instinct was right. The food was great, the service was friendly and efficient, and the price for this California resident was astounding (in a positive way!). We were immediately given a large basket of house-made warm chips with a bowl of good salsa. When the waiter saw how quickly we were eating the chips (remember, driving and hiking all day), he brought another basket. My son ordered the Expresso Burrito with shredded beef. It was full of beef and other things and came with rice and beans and some guacamole. I had the Deluxe Taco salad with a side of Pico de Gallo and rice, plus a strawberry lemonade. My taco salad was flavorful and well-made, and had a lot of shredded chicken. My son's burrito was excellent, and had a lot of shredded beef in it, much more than one would get from Chipotle and of higher quality (he knows his Chipotle). The entire meal cost $29 and change. Not $29/person. Total. As someone who lives in the SF Bay Area, I am sadly accustomed to much higher prices. I was amazed, especially given the quality. I looked at what people were eating at other tables. It all looked good. I wish we could go back but, alas, I suspect I will never pass through this area again. I would definitely go back to this restaurant and try other things on the menu. Note: for those of you in the 20% who think Cilantro tastes like soap, I did not detect much (any?) I am Celiac (gluten intolerant) and I am happy to report that I had no issues with the food at MMR, a great place to eat if you have this malady. We had a large group and ordered everything from queso and ceviche to a variety of burritos, salads, enchiladas, and tacos. Burritos and overall portions were substantial. All the sauces and salsas were very good. Pretty much what you would expect. Only criticism is the taco shells were the style of flour tortillas deep fried till crunchy. The problem is it's pretty oily and not my favorite shell. They should serve crunchy corn shells like the supermarket or just soft corn or flour tortillas. You'll find the parking lot and restaurant fairly crowded, although we went at the unusual time of 3:30pm so we were the only ones. read more

This is the best Mexican restaurant that I have eaten at in Colorado. This is better than the options in Metro Denver, Greeley, & Fort Collins by far. I ordered a combination plate with a shredded beef taco, shredded beef enchilada, & a pork tamale. All three of them were delicious. It was unique how the taco had a fried tortilla to make it a hard shell. The combo also came with rice and refried beans, which was also good. The free chips and salsa were both tasty and homemade. I enjoyed the guacamole that I ordered as well. I got seated very quickly and the food was prepared reasonably fast. The manager of this place was also friendly. The ambience is beautiful. I've been to Montezuma's on several occasions. Sometimes it's good other times it's not. They aren't too consistent but if they were I think it would be great! I wrote a negative review last year but realized that was one out of multiple visits - not a fair assessment or review so I deleted it and I'm replacing it with this one. No longer a fan. After a number of changes in ownership, this is not at all the same culinary experience it once was. The menu has changed and the food is unremarkable at best, inedible at worst. A real hidden gem in Delores, Co. The restaurant has a great outdoor seating area that lets you sit right along the edge of the Dolores river . Came in tonight and stood at the entry for what seemed like an eternity. Had multiple employees walk past and not greet us. We then decided to seat ourselves. We stopped in here for lunch on a rainy June day. We were greeted by a friendly guy there wasn't too many people here due to the weather but the food was decent. I ordered the tamale and ground beef enchilada combo and I have to say that the tamale, beans and rice were crazy good so were the chips and salsa. The enchilada however needed a little help but wasn't bad all in all the food, service and atmosphere was wonderful so if you're looking for a decent mexican food lunch while you're in the area I would recommend eating here. read more

It's a basic establishment with a bar and booths, but let me tell you that the service here is so warm and welcoming, I wouldn't have thought they were closing in an hour when I arrived. The people here are wonderful and treated me like a family member who you welcome right away with a meal (my culture is similar in that sharing a meal shows how much you care about someone). I love Mexican food and the menu is packed with options! I actually ended up getting some tilapia because I wanted a light dinner, but it comes with beans, rice, and heaping amount of chips with salsa. The dishes don't have any fancy gimmicks or trendy-fusion stuff. Just a simple mission to feed you a filling meal. Disappointing is all we can say. We waited an hour for our food, and when it was served my wife's tamale was almost inedible. Seems like the rush to serve our forgotten order possibly routed through the microwave. We knew there was trouble thirty minutes into the meal when our copper haired server came to the table and asked us what we had ordered. Uh oh. We then waited almost another 20 minutes for our food. She did apologize, but only after we grabbed her and flatly asked if she had forgotten our order. I had watched her behind the bar preparing and serving drinks for other tables. The other servers there in The Bent Elbow from Silverton hoodie stopped by and asked us if we needed anything. We asked for our food. Sad, so much promise of a good meal and service here. Ugh.
