Having frequented this place many times, I'm always amazed at the painstaking lengths that the owner went to provide a pleasant dining experience, good food, high quality ingredients, and a pretty excellent value relationship-- Only to hire incompetent servers. Tonight I was placed alone next to a window, with the server barely spending more than 10 seconds waiting on me--in 50 minutes. Instead, he doted over all of the large groups in my vicinity, promised me a refill on the iced tea, watched me sit there waiting for 30 minutes for a refill, and never provided such. You got it. When I was handed the electronic payment machine...Yupp... he literally stares me down like a back alley shakedown artist. In addition to wearing a scuzzy unkept beard, not advisable for food servers, right?, he actually seems visibly upset when I gave him 16% tip, even asking me "was something wrong?" I know that we are in a small town, and Durango is feeling its growing pains, transitioning from a mountain/railroad rural tourist haven to a high profile mountain resort. But this was so obvious, that it ruined the experience. The burger was well executed and had a nice patina, offering a rewarding crunchy patty exterior. It's an easy 8-minute walk from the DoubleTree, which makes it perfect for a solo dinner or a relaxed night out. Since I was solo, I grabbed a seat at the bar -- and I'm so glad I did. The staff was over-the-top friendly, the kind of team that makes you feel welcome the moment you sit down. Not every place gets hospitality right, but these guys absolutely do. I ordered the Cuban, and it surprised me in the best way. They use BBQ in the sandwich, so it's a different take than the traditional style -- but it was incredibly tasty. I liked it so much I ordered a Philly cheesesteak to go, and that didn't disappoint either. Make sure you try the craft cocktails. They do flavors well -- thoughtful, balanced, and creative without being over the top. You can't go wrong trying a few. The atmosphere is friendly, warm, and easy to settle into. My daughters and I had the pleasure of dining here a couple months ago. We shared some appetizers and all were delicious. The cocktails were unique and so good. We couldn't decide which one we liked best. We especially appreciated our waiter. He was on top of things and was quite funny - just an all around great personality. The decor was very warm and cozy with lighted trees and old doors surrounding some of the tables for privacy. So pretty! We were visiting our son and his fiancée and came here for dinner. It was a Saturday night and the place was busy. Still, we got a table within 15 minutes. The inside was very cool, with a few tables inside little rooms with windows, and our table was up a small flight of stairs with a few other tables. Our area was Alice in Wonderland themed, with a twisted cabinet and clock (as if you were on drugs), and framed sayings of different Alice characters. There is patio seating. My wife and I had a mandarin orange and almond slivered spring salad with a wonderful lemon vinaigrette dressing, and I had grilled chicken on mine. My wife also got two carne asada tacos she really liked. Our son ordered a flatbread pizza and his fiancée a caprese salad. All the food was delicious. Our son had two beers,his fiancée two mixed drinks, my wife a margarita, and myself a beer. $157 before tip. So, not inexpensive. Love the happy hour BUT: I went with friends for happy hour today, and our server was not ideal. He eavesdropped on the conversation I was having with friends, inserted himself directly into the conversation without an invitation, and then ignored me all THREE times that I told him I did not want to continue the conversation with him. I ordered the Margherita flatbread and it was really flavorful with the arugula on top. I also had the southwest fries, which were really good and the drink I had was The Cure and it was super refreshing. On the downside, the food is not good. I had a southwest salad which had maybe 5 pieces of lettuce and was covered in cheese. I also had an avocado taco that was cold and bland. I expected maybe a fried avocado slice or something, but no. My partner got chicken tacos and he said they were ok. We were in a time crunch and took what we could get, as most places were closing. Our server was really nice and fast when we asked for the check, which we paid without looking it over. Our mistake, as we were charged for extra food we didn't order. This place is meh for us. We've visited 3 or 4 times and been consistently UNDERwhelmed by the experience here. The good: nice live music and fun decor. Also has a large enough menu that there's something for everyone. The bad: the quality of the food is inconsistent and the orders have been prepared wrong each time we've visited. Additionally, it's really only for a small group (2 or 4 people) and if you're seating more than 4, you have to sit at a high-top where you can't sit up to the table because there's barrels in the way of your legs. So you're sitting very far away from the table and everyone you're with. The service is also PAINFULLY slow and you can't find someone when you need something... so if your order comes out wrong, you're taking that plate back to the kitchen yourself because nobody is around to help you. We're probably not going back - it's just not a good fit for us and too much hassle for the price. read more

Tonight was our 4th or 5th visit to Derailed. Food was ok. Server had a great attitude, but drinks and food came out very slow. The primary issue was that people consistently held the front door open for a long period of time. We were sat near the front door and it was 25 outside. I approached the hostess and asked about the front door and she replied "it isn't us". I told her that I understood she wasn't holding the front door and could she please ask the customers to close the door as they came in. There was little progress. At the end of the dinner I brought this up to the manager and it was evident that she couldn't care less. Most likely our last visit to Derailed. There's daytime and happy hour Durango happy to drain the pocketbooks of tourists, then there's off-season on a Sunday evening Durango where the staff at any local establishment just want to go home or only serve the locals/regulars. Maybe it was my t-shirt or the fact that I walked in alone about an hour before closing time, but my experience last night at Pour House was the latter and I'll never be back. Walked in, got carded (I'm obviously around 50, but whatever, I come prepared) and ordered an "end of the night" cocktail after a not-so-pleasant experience at another nearby establishment (don't get me started there; that's for ^their^ review) ... and was told "we have the right to refuse service so I'm going to decline to serve you." And with zero explanation. Considering the host checking IDs was blitzed and obviously "on something" (as most of the staff at the place was by the state of their pupils), I could see how he wouldn't notice that I was probably the most sober person entering (now leaving) the establishment, but the service at this joint at this time of night could certainly use a little training on what is appropriate. So sorry he didn't want to pour a whiskey after I asked what kinds of bourbons versus whiskeys they had and saying I didn't like Jack Daniels nor any style of Jim Beam as my options, I guess? Nice job at taking someone who used to love downtown Durango during *any* season and turning that person into a billboard of "nope, never again" instead. Might be a great place to eat or visit during the day or early evening, but don't expect the nightlife staff to be accommodating. read more

There are cozy seating arrangements partially partition off by antique doors for a truly unique atmosphere. I wound up sitting outside on a very comfortable sectional in a well heated area where our waiter Brian took great care of us. They have an extensive cocktail list along with spirits and drafts. I'm on the fence with this restaurant. The food is decent and priced reasonably. However there were many turn offs. The positive: atmosphere is great! I lived the decor and it had both indoor and outdoor seating. The negative: (1) We waited 20 min for our drinks after ordering. Our waiter kept apologizing and said that there were new bartenders that are a little slower. (2) We came as a family of 4 and placed our food order at the same time. However my carbs asada quesadillas came out 25 min after the rest of the family received their dinner. Everyone in my party was done eating by the time my meal arrived. No explanation was given but the waiter recognized it wasn't right and comped my husband's $5 beer. Not my meal which was only $17, not my drink which was $14.
