I went here for women's comedy night. The show was good. They brought out about 5 comedians and the host was funny. The service was good, especially considering the amount of ppl that were there. We ordered the Jerk Egg rolls, and the firecracker shrimp, which were huge, but just didn't do it for me. The jerk eggrolls were very plain. I was expecting to catch a pepper or an onion or something, it was basically chunks of tasteless chicken breast roller up in a roll and deep fried, no flavor. The drinks were lacking and the tickets were high with random misc charges and adjustments, I decided not to question it. Not sure why Monticello is so lowly rated but I had an incredible experience. Excellent customer service, great food, great vibes. From the moment we walked in, we were immediately greeted and warmly welcomed. :) We went to the cigar bar because my hubby wanted to get a cigar and his steak and his old fashioned. We went on a Sunday so it was super chill. I believe the manager assisted us, Tony I believe. He was very kind and attentive. My hubby had been raving about this place for a while so I'm glad I tried it. Think a chill cigar bar with AH-MAZING FOOD! Like really good soul food. I was eyeing that Lobster Mac and Cheese ($33) I kid you not, the best lobster Mac and cheese in the world. They are not stingey on their portions at all. The freshest, well-seasoned huge piece of lobster tail on a well-toasted, rich but not too rich mac and cheese. Wow!! My husband got an old fashioned (I believe $8- it's not on the menu but that's a standard price for this drink) which he liked and of course his Ribeye ($35). Not only is the steak an incredible value but it is huge and some of the best Ribeye I've ever had! Juicy, well-seasoned and just so delicious! I did wish they had more variety in their drink menu which has a lot of sweet drinks and I wish their ventilation in the cigar lounge was better. We come here occasionally on weekends for grown people vibes. Their Saturday DJ, Kan-D-Man hits right! They also a humidor and separate smoking area, including patio. This gets very live during NFL games. This visit, we ordered some small plates, specifically the salmon n chips and fire cracker shrimp. I enjoy both very much but will admit the sauce is spicier than what I like, but the food was so good I ate thru the heat lol. I visited the place for the first time for one of their concerts on a Friday night. It had the Atlanta typical club feel and one of host was from one of the Atlanta radio stations which was nice. He kept talking New York City which was a little annoying since he was in Atlanta. The food was good, but they were out of serval items on the menu. We felt the server for our area was not very friendly and welcoming. We had VIP tickets never the stage. The table was very small and rocked. These were small issues but the big problem for us was we waited over 2 hours for the concert to start and nothing. It was after midnight and no concert, so we left. I've now been to Monticello's 3 times, and had 3 very different experiences. First time was a private party where we had a nice section near the dance floor, the service was decent and the food was great. The DJ was ok, the transitions between songs were awkward which lead many people off the dance floor. The second time was a fun night of dancing for the girls. The third time, I brought a group of friends to dance, paid a cover to get in to find that they were watching the football game??!!! This is a dance club, we left the sports bar we were at to come dance. When I inquired, they said we had to wait for the game to finish before they would play the music. The food I saw mostly was fried and it took a while for your order to arrive because of how many previous orders were made. Im talking heat, hookah, and kitchen smoke all wrapped into one zig zag. No fans running, drinks that can't hold ice to satan, melted swiftly in the distance. Bottled warm beer was purchased from the bar, should have asked what was the coldest beer they had in the fridge but lesson learned. My first time visiting Monticello was on a Thursday for the comedy show. My fiance' and I arrived around 830pm and was able to find a parking spot in the parking lot but they do offer Valet. I RSVP'd for the comedy show at www.laughatl.com which allowed us to get in for free till 9pm. You have to be 21 and older to get in on Thursday night so they do ask for ID regardless of how old you look. The hostess was friendly and very accommodating. They told us all the tables were accounted for already but there were seats available near the stage for the comedy show, the young lady did see 1 table that someone changed their mind about and offered to seat us with the understanding that others would be seated there as well which we didn't mind. The bar was packed and the crowd was grown, it was a very mature crowd. The ambiance was laid back, filled with cigar smoke, and good ole music. There were women who came around several times asking if you was interested in purchasing a hookah. If the waitresses had the same drive as the hookah ladies I would have given this place 5 stars. We sat for 15 minutes or so waiting for someone to stop and ask if we wanted to order anything then finally one of the managers who was going around from table to table making sure every table was being taken care of, I told him No. The gentleman asked us what we wanted, took our orders and made sure we were taken care of for the remainder of the night. There is no drink menu. Not sure if it is because they don't feel the need to disclose drink prices or the plan is to make nothing but basic drinks. We ordered several Patron Margaritas and they were good. I ordered the seafood Cobb Salad with no bacon, they use mixed greens, the shrimp and crab meat tasted fresh, and it was so delicious. My fiance had the Salmon with Shrimp and it was scrumptious. The food prices were very reasonable and they give you a nice sized portion so you won't leave hungry. To our surprise Kindred The Family Soul performed before the comedy show. The performance was great and the audience sang along to every song. Now up front... there is a cigar lounge and hooka bar along with a restaurant and three full service bars so it can get smoky in there nevertheless the food was delicious, I was pleasantly surprise with the variety on the menu and the drinks were reasonable. Who wouldn't enjoy a social atmosphere where you can relax and enjoy your company plus good food. I thought I was passing through the area when I had some mechanical issues. That caused a delay. So I pulled out my trusty Rolodex a.k.a. iPhone and check for friends in the neighborhood. I came across some old navy buddies from 20 years ago. After a short conversation they brought me out to meet them at Monticello 's. Boy was that a treat. It was great to see them with the atmosphere in Monticello's being extraordinary. We was watching the NFC and AFC title match ups. There was plenty of seating and many different areas to indulge in. Like the cigar lounge, the hookah lounge, outdoor seating or the non-smoker lounge. Nevertheless the food and drinks came from the kitchen and the bar. Waiters and waitresses was everywhere and quite busy. They had a Buffay table that they kept enticing goodies for our snacking enjoyment during the game. This particular night they had a DJ that played all the old-school R&B and hip-hop music during commercials and halftime show. A few dances broke out here and there in between also. If you were heavy into your conversation the DJ also yelled out touchdown or interception just to keep you in the loop. My friends and I initially started in the non-smokers lounge just watching the game catching up and having a few drinks. By halftime we checked out the hookah lounge and the place was packed. So we retreated to the regular nonsmoking lounge and we ordered the main course ( grilled Ribeye's with sautéed creamy spinach and chunky mashed potatoes) so good. By the second game we moved into the cigar lounge but prior to that we walked into the walk-in humidor picked out a few sticks a.k.a. stogies and proceeded into the cigar lounge. Cigar portion doors should stay closed so the smell and smoke doesn't hit you if that's not where you are going By 9 pm all seats and tables were reserved and taken even though they were empty . Piss poor management of seating. They need to hire a logistical engineer . Not sure how I feel about this place...stood in line at around 11pm on a Saturday. Got to the register and mentioned we had sent an inquiry yesterday and got an email today to get a table (and called multiple times) when we got here they did not have any tables available and the non-minority lady (who made sure to mention it was her birthday 4 times in the conversation) was very rude and stated that they did not reply because they are busy! She proceeded to argue and made some very rude comments. Just extremely rude. I was the financial controller for a company that owns 13 black owned businesses in Houston (bars, clubs and restaurants) and she was beyond rude, terrible customer service. Just for that interaction I give zero stars. The waitress who helped us was fantastic (Jasmine). She gets 5 stars!!!!! There is definitely no dress code. Some people were dressed up (like us who just came from a 5 star restaurant) and there were people in tennis shoes and sweats, super casual, pants sagging below their ass.
