    Pups playing.

I go to Montiel almost everyday....usually have a good experience there. The majority of the time..most pet owners are responsible. My pup likes to go and play. Of course, it is a dog park...unfortunately, there are some dog owners who don't watch their dogs as well as they should...sometimes, when certain dogs are there. I don't go in...I am so glad, this doesn't happen often.

Nice disc golf course. 9 holes. Cost is free. Mostly a short course with few trees, but tough as most of course is either uphill or down. No one there when I went. Con would be that some of my discs got scratched as there is not really any grass.

The hours and basic park rules. Simple.

After reading the reviews for this course, and as a beginner disc golfer, I decided to give this park a try. Right off the bat I was impressed with how "not crowded" this park was, as I arrived around 10 am on a Tuesday. As a matter of fact, I only saw one other group of disc golfers (loooked like a lesson?) as I departed my nine hole round. This course is very well marked, and the holes are clearly laid out with length and pars. Some of the tee signs are sun bleached, but hey, this is a municipal park and the fee to play is my favorite four letter word: FREE. Well laid out, out and back just over 2,000 feet for nine holes...obviously to grab a full eighteen makes for two "loops" here. The terrain is hard dirt with carries of well grown trees and low lying ground cover. As others have written for this course, the terrain will take its toll on your discs. I had several hard landings on approach that took good gravel dings out of my fairway and driver discs. The baskets are sun beaten and feature a fine patina of rust on the chains, but again, they do the job. The course criss crosses and meanders up a slight incline, culminating in views of South Escondidio and the hospital in the distance. I played on a cool and cloudy morning with the temps in the mid seventies...definitely bring some water with, as I didn't see any fountains. This is a very playable and fun course, great for beginners. I lost my driver disc a couple of times in the ground cover, but was easily recovered with a little walk and search. I was able to scoop up nine holes in just under an hour, and even scored my first birdie on hole number eight!! Woot!! There is a board just to the left of the first tee explaining the game, again, a great spot for beginners. The surrounding park is sandwiched between a housing development and another developed property to the west. The parking was ample and easy access from the main road. There is also a dog park if you wanted to combine visits and give Rex a place to romp and play. All in all a really nice experience here, and that elusive fifth star was a holdback due to the hardscrabble surface and it's habit of denting discs. Not a bad thing, but for five stars to a disc course, please supply grass carries. Finally, the really nice feature of this muni course is its concrete tee boxes...awesome touch and gave a nice consistent throwing surface. This may just become my local haunt given its short distance from my house.

Nice little 9 hole course that goes up and down a hill. I typically take friends here when I'm first introducing them to the game.

Hole One is right where Barham and Campus Way meet. Look for the parking structure and you'll start to see the holes. Free course but you have to pay for parking. It'll take you an hour to an hour an a half so bring some quarters. The first set of holes was a small dried up brush poky sock needle open space. Not my cup of tea. You go around the baseball field and throw around the track. The best part of the course is when you start going into the campus. Through the quad and around the science building. We went on a Sunday so their was no body around with no classes going on. Good place to go at least once just to throw around the buildings. Good Sunday spot when Morley Field is packed and Kit Carson is BBQ/Soccer nation.

Dogs! Unleashed dogs!…read more My complaint is not about the disk golfers. They are great! They are alway polite to a fault. If you need to walk by where they are playing? They actually stop and wait for you to pass. I've had that happen many times. My complaint is about people with their dogs. I had another incident with someone who didn't honor the leash law. Small, but a reminder that I can't go to this park with my small dog. It's just not safe for him and it might not be for me either. I don't know these dogs who are loose. Well, at least I wasn't jumped on by a large dog, like last time. That was pretty bad and the dog did hurt me. What if that had been a small child? So, my second incident... I actually saw a woman walk out of the park, leaving her dog inside the park, to choose whether to follow her or come towards me and my 10 pound dog. There's a walkway, back into the adjoining neighborhood. This was not through the parking lot. The medium sized dog, maybe 40-45 pounds, was anxious as to which way to choose. He/she started to come towards us. I mean... honestly! She would no doubt defend her actions by saying her dog is friendly... ...yadda, yadda. Point is, THERE IS A LEASH LAW THAT IS ***NOT HONORED!*** People who don't leash their dogs here are growing in this park. No one does! And because no one does, everyone seems to think it's ok. It isn't! It's not ok. While a large dog might be friendly, they can pounce on a small dog and injure it. Or a small child! If your dog is unleashed, it's out of your control and that's the point. The whole thing makes it near impossible to use this park. It's in my neighborhood so that just should not be. I'm still giving this 4 stars though because of the gold disk guys... they are mostly guys. They're great. ...

If you don't take a cart or rent a little dolly, you will be in for great exercise as there are plenty of hills to go up and down as you trek through the course. There is a water station that has reverse osmosis water near the check-in station. The driving range has a good amount of stations. Cons: parking here can get crowded very quickly. I came here on a Sunday afternoon and had to park in the dirt patch next to the parking lot as it was way too full. Not necessarily a huge con, but a lot of other golfers brought their dogs with them on the course which is fine but could be a hazard for other people driving their golf carts. Nothing too crazy here. Verdict: you're very challenging course, but this course is very fun. I spent around $80 to play here which is a bit on the expensive side but could be worth it if you get Sunset hours or maybe during a different season. I'd recommend other people to come here if they want to challenge themselves at golf.

It was our first time at this course, and most of our first times playing disc golf ever but the people here were all super nice and welcoming. The parking situation was kinda hectic with no dedicated lines for the cars so it was park where you can and two small lots. There's a little building where you can purchase the tee-time wristbands bands and rent/buy discs. I had no idea there were different discs like clubs, we rented a driver, mid-range, and a putter, which were thinnest to thickest respectively. ---- Pricing: - All day play wristbands $6 weekdays/$8 weekends and holidays - Rental Discs $2.50/each - 5 people max per tee time ---- There are 19 holes, with a practice area near the parking lot. The starting areas and the holes themselves were a little hard to find at times, bc they aren't marked super clearly. And some are hidden by trees. They have maps at the start of each hole with the hole denoted by a letter and a sticker, but translating it to real life can be tricky. The discs can get stuck in trees often, and by the building there are these long bamboo sticks that you can you to try and hit them down. Otherwise people throw rocks, shoes, or other discs to try and get them down from the trees. Watch out for wet areas on the course. As I was walking towards my disc I stepped in a muddy patch that was concealed by the grass on top of it and my whole foot sank into the dirt. ---- Overall: despite leaving with a dirty and wet foot, I had a great time, it was quite busy considering it was a Friday after midday, but you can spend a good amount of time here with friends or solo, affordable activity and fun

Well maintained Family fun ----- Longer Review We have played frisbee for a long time. Our son is on his school's Ultimate team (think "frisbee football"). We have a disc course in the park in town. We visited Southern California - Palm Desert, Yucaipa, and Malibu - for Spring Break 2021. Before our trip, a quick search found The Palm Desert Disc Golf Course / Hovely Disc Golf and Soccer Park. Mid-trip we visited with our cousins. We decided to play a round before dinner. We didn't consider that we would arrive in the "after school / before dinner" time... on a Wednesday... which in March meant that there were quite a few teams practicing soccer. That's ok... we adjusted. We couldn't play each hole, for we'd get in their way. We did play several holes and had fun. While the course is relatively flat, it is challenging. For the most part, the disc golf holes are on the "upper parking lot level" and the soccer fields are somewhat lower elevation, down a short hill. Most, but not all, of the tee boxes are at the same elevation. The course designers/builders did a nice job. There are plenty of man-made obstacles, from pavilions to light poles for soccer and palm trees. There is a good mix of distances on the holes. Any time playing disc golf is good. It's even better in the desert. Thank you Palm Desert Disc Golf Course / Hovely Disc Golf and Soccer Park. ----- ----- -----
