Great fish fry. Decent-good service; I called in my order, was told 45 minutes, went in and was told by the counter staff they didn't have an order in because the girl forgot to walk my order over from the office where she took it. I've drove by this place a lot and always wanted to try it . I've heard good things and I know some restaurants get their seafood from there. We just got the regular haddock fish fry.it wasn't like " OMG ALERT GUY FIERI THIS IS THE BEST FISH FRY EVER"... But it was probably in my top 5. The portion of fish and fries was huge. Definitely splitting it next time. We also got crab and lobster cakes. They were a good size- a lot thicker than a "normal" crab cake and they tasted amazing. The only compliant I had was I ordered my dish without fries, and I asked for the vinegar slaw instead. I also asked to replace the regular coleslaw with the vinegar slaw as well.. They still gave me fries and regular slaw. Not a big deal at all. Wasn't even mad because they were pretty busy and a lot of people were working. I deff want to go back and try their fresh stuff. Our first trip to Montondos was this evening. My husband & I tried the baked fish haddock dinners, New England clam chowder and a few hush puppies for roadies! ; ) The fish was fresh and delicious. I would have preferred fresh lemon on the side instead of a packet of lemon juice, but onward. Shoestring fries were decent, coleslaw was good. The soup was savory and just the right texture of "doneness" for the potatoes. Enough seafood to taste was great! Flavoring could have had a little more depth with a bit more seasoning. Enjoyable nonetheless. Hush puppies were perfect! A much better deal than another seafood place we go to in Clarence. Service was fast & friendly. Cooked to order. In & out in 15min Next visit we are definitely buying the wild caught shrimp to cook up at home. 14.99/lb Montondos is a clean, we'll run locally owned business that you should support! The closest thing to fresh fish in Lockport. Want to grill a tuna steak or poach some salmon? They sell deep fried food as well. Crab cakes and fish fries. I don't like their french fries so get the mac n cheese, much better. Clam chowder on Fridays. Everything is to go, no eating areas. Salads, shrimp and scallops. read more

You can find a good fish fry at many places in the Buffalo area on Friday nights, but what about the rest of the week? Montondo's fills that gap with a nice breaded haddock and many other fish options. The fries are also very good. The cole slaw? Kind of tasteless and not so good. However, that is a minor blemish. You can also buy fresh fish and cook it yourself at home. Some side items include a very cheesy and tasty macaroni and cheese - recommended very highly. And be sure to get a dozen or so hush puppies. If you have never been south or had hush puppies, fill that void in your life - have 2 dozen to make up for lost time. You will not be sorry. Parking is on a busy East Avenue, but you can find a space nearby, even during this winter of our discontent and mountainous snowbanks. read more

The Fish was good,the Macaroni salad was horrid. Creamy,slimy like the kind you get in one of those milk carton containers. Make homemade,with tuna,eggs,real mayo,onion,maybe some celery. Macaroni salad is not just Macaroni and Mayo. That's gross. Cole slaw was bad too. But they are a Fish place I guess,and the fish was enough for two people and good. read more

First let me say the fish fry was cooked very well, not at all slimy or greasy. That being said the flavor was just too bland for my liking, as was the coleslaw. I was excited to try it since I had heard great reviews, unfortunately I won't order again. I also didn't care for the Kraft tartar sauce that was included, and fresh lemon would be way better than packaged lemon juice. Today's review isn't a restaurant in the strictest sense of the word because there isn't anywhere to eat at their place but is still a place to get good food. I have been a customer of theirs since the 70's. My wife and I lived in Massachusetts for a few years and appreciate fresh seafood, in fact I used to go to the piers where the fishing boats would come in to buy seafood directly from the fisheries. Montondo's Seafood was established January 15, 1917 by Frank Montondo at 23 Main St. As the business grew it moved several times until 1963 when it moved to the current location at 201 East Ave., Lockport, New York. In 1941, his daughter Arlene and husband Howard Hobbs took over the business. At this time the company began to sell to area restaurants. In 2009, Robert Luff became sole owner and President of Montondo's Seafood. Robert began his career at Montondo's in 1973 while still in high school and continued his employment through college. Robert became a partner and Vice President in 1999, fully purchasing the business in 2009. Montondo's wholesale division continues to expand now serving over 500 restaurants, institutions and wholesalers all over Western New York. I have reviewed several restaurants that brag their sea food comes from Montondo's. Their success has been built on quality products and friendly helpful service. The management feels fortunate to have reliable, concerned employees whose aim it is to please the customer and who have helped them attain more than 95 successful years in business. From the modest beginnings of Montondo's Fish & Oyster Market on Main Street in Lockport to their present modern retail facility on East Avenue and wholesale facility on Ann Street, they have strived to make their customers the number one priority. My wife and I ordered 2 fried oyster dinners just because you can't get a good fried oyster dinner anywhere in Lockport that I know of. It comes with slaw and fries but they have several sides you can substitute for these. We opted for potato salad which was creamy and had a good taste on one of the dinners and Mac and cheese on the other in place of the fries. The mac and cheese reminded me of the cheesy, creamy side we used to get at Boston Market in Amherst and she loved the potato salad. We both had plenty of food (I think we had a dozen oysters each). Parking is a bit of a problem on East Avenue but they have plenty of additional parking in back. Montondo's is just one of Lockport's traditions and for good reason. I give them a 9 out of 10. My only complaint is I wish the oyster dinners were a bit less expensive but I do understand quality doesn't come cheap. read more

Montondo's has had delicious food for as long as I can remember. As a kid, getting a Montondo's Friday night fish fry was a big deal. I stopped by the other day for a fried shrimp plate---perfect as always. Was just on their web page and they have recipes posted. So I am now craving lobster risotto. Definitely worth a visit. read more
