On Sunday evening with two four year olds, we were looking for something to be delivered but their delivery time was too long due to having two hungry kids! So, we called and they said that they had a table for us, so we took off. We were greeted warmly and things just got better! It was some of the best Thai food that I have had. From shrimp rolls, mango salad, egg rolls, fried rice, basil beef and more it was scrumptious! We topped it off with mango sticky rice! I can not recommend this place highly enough! It's been a while since we've been to Reno and everytime we go always to make it a point to try a restaurant that's not in the casino. After driving down N. Virginia Blvd cane across Moo Dang. This place is not your average Thai restaurant this place is legit. Huge serving of papaya salad good enough for 4 people, we asked for medium spice level. It had quite a kick that left is wanting more. Chicken panang big juicy chicken strips. The sauce full of flavor, pad thai creamy must've used real peanut butter. Overall, not one disappointed dish. First time grabbing food for Togo from here. The food is delicious and great. We ordered the food early so we can eat it for lunch since lunch time is limited. I manage to grab the food and didn't realize that there was no utensils. It's not the employee fault as my coworker told me it's laid out front for you to grab. But overall food was great. My coworkers got the pad thai, one was level 2 and the other was level 3 and I got the moo dang fried rice. I like how to add a tiny bit of ginger in the fried rice to help clean the palate. read more

So when I was asked to join some fellow yelpers for dinner here, I did not hesitate. Smart move on my part. We received Fried Fish Balls, that were amazeballs!! Just for checking in on yelp. Our table shared Drunken Noodles, Pad Thai, Garlic & Pepper Shrimp and Chicken Stir Fry, and Ginger and Mushroom Stir Fry...which had the best flavor pop my mouth has experienced in a while!! Service (1/5): Came here for a quick lunch on a chilly Thursday. All I can say is the service was horrible. Both the waitress and waiter here were pretty rude. For a place that was maybe 3 tables full, they were really pushy for me ordering and gave me the check within minutes after getting my plate. Moo Dang experience was mixed hence the just above average scoring. Food- we ordered the vegetarian spring roles, vegetarian fried rice, and pad Thai. The food was awesome the spring roles were crunchy and flavorful and the dipping sauce was on point. Our party of 15 had a reservation we were the first to arrive right on time and it took the one server on a Saturday night 5 minutes to acknowledge us only to let us know the table was not ready yet. Most of the other party had arrived and half were left standing around a table because enough chairs were not available yet... super awkward and not what should happen when you have a reservation. Whole group ordered completely separate times because of the seating debacle and the again ONE server on a Saturday night was understandably completely freaking out and stressing. Main dishes included a beef gra pow and a supposedly curry dish. Gra pow was yummy, a lot of flavors from the basil leaves and peppers. Curry plate came out with spinach, peanut sauce, and beef. Operated by actual Thai natives. We just landed and needed something "soupy" based on reviews we decided to check it out. Service was quick , fast, efficient. Restaurant was spacious and the cherry on top was that they offered a great selection of craft beers. We ordered the 2 kinds of noodles and they were happy to modify one bowl to "vegetarian" The highlight was the salad. The meat was cooked to perfection. Crispy in the outside as if it was fried and moist/tender on the inside. Our server also asked for the spice level between 1-5 and expressed that 3 is super spicy and that the chef is heavy handed on the spice so we went with #2 which I thought was spicy so I would do #1 next time. Atmosphere - An old strip mall that is housing this Thai treasure. The place is very modern feel, bright and clean. The booth was comfy. Food Drinks - Singha beer, prices are really good here. They have a really good selection. Appetizer - Fish balls. Who knew those water animals had balls. They were free with the Yelp app checkin. Three of these balls were deep fried and on a skewer. But for us it was all about the sauce they came with. Yummy. The item is not on their menu, but I did see it on the happy hour menu. Dinner - My wife and I split the Moo Dang Fried Rice and the Pad Thai. The Pad Thai was solid. It comes with shrimp and chicken. I ate the chicken while my wife had the shrimp. I liked the chicken big pieces. For me the star of dinner was the Moo Dang Fried Rice. The seasoning was amazing. But the Moo Dang, the red pork pieces, was my savory goodness. Shouldn't Moo Dang be more appropriately named Oink Dang? Well, Moo Dang does mean 'red pork' in Thai, doesn't it? Can't resist being a smartass although I must give Moo Dang credit for showcasing some unique Thai entrees not commonly available in the US. After perusing the menu, my bud and I both appeared lost even though we are not newbies to Thai cuisine. We knew we needed to try red pork...that was a given. While wondering what else besides the tried and true, it was fortuitous that I recognize another yelper, Tessa, dining with her companion. I remembered reading her review on MD and I thought asking her would be the smart thing to do. Thanks Tessa, your input on some new entrees made our evening a culinary adventure! So our choices were a happy mix of new and old. As far as I'm concerned, no Thai dinner is complete without Tom Yum ($7.50). I often use that as a benchmark to test the waters, so to speak, whenever I try a new Thai place. I was delighted right from my first sip, it had perfect balance between sweetness, sourness with an exotic lemon grass taste. It's one of the main signature dishes that defines Thai flavor. We requested for Thai hot as my bud is a spice fiend and I went along. Whew! The spiciness didn't burn my tongue off. (4/5) The next dish is another perennial favorite, Chicken Satay ($7.95). Loved the cucumber salad that came with the satay as it provided a distinct contrast to the meat. The salad was crunchy, sweet and sour vs. the savory and peanut-y dipping sauce. My only comment is using chicken breast for satay is getting old...very old! There are a lot of meats out there that will go well with the satay sauce like beef and lamb not to mention seafood/shellfish as well. (3/5) A new entrée meant an entree I have not seen before in a Thai restaurant in the US. I have however visited Thailand and recalled the Nam Tok Salad ($9.95) usually sold by a street vendor. Thai idea of a salad is quite different from what we are used to. The dressing is always a refreshing blend of mint, lime, chili and cilantro and enhanced with fish sauce. Can you imagine the symphony of flavors when these ingredients are blended together? It certainly wouldn't be creamy like ranch or thousands dressing. The next unique feature was Thai salad invariably had meat and in fact, a hefty pile of BBQ pork. (4/5) Ginger and 3 Mushrooms ($10.95) sounded it had some Chinese overtones. Shitake, wood's ear and button mushrooms were stirred fried with ginger, onions and celery in garlic and soy. The red pork is MD's house made specialty and I would not even attempt to second guess the marinade recipe involved but to mention MD uses lean pork loin mimicking the Chinese BBQ pork or char siu. The flavors of the whole dish though were authentically Thai, savory and tangy and I loved the crunchy wood ear mushrooms. A job well executed! (4/5) To save the best for last, Mee Kra Tee ($11.95) was literally out of this world! A cursory glance reminded me of the Malaysian Mee Goreng with its reddish color noodles from copious dousing of ketchup. The noodles here were Chinese mei fun (vermicelli noodles) and the owner, John, swore Moo Dang does not carry ketchup in his kitchen. The secret was simply coconut milk and red shallot sauce! Moo Dang sure fooled me! Upon tasting...yes, the unmistakable taste of coconut milk! One of the toppings was just as unusual...shredded omelet. Nice! The noodles were soft (as opposed to al dente), slightly creamy, savory, tamarind-tangy and incredibly fine tasting and none of the more well known Thai noodles like Pad Thai, Pad See Ew or Pad Kee Miao came close. It was that good! (5/5) It is always welcoming to throw in something new alongside with the old to generate interest. The level of spicy are a bit tricky since they range from 1-5 and vary from chef to chef. The service is always great and the waitress' are always so sweet. You know how there are places where you are like, ok, maybe we will give it another chance? This is not one of those. We came here on a Saturday night and the restaurant was half filled. No one took our order for 15 minutes and it took another 30 minutes for our spring rolls and chicken wing app to come out. No explanation and no apologies. Then our tom yum soup came after we've been there for an hour, main dishes were probably 2 hours away from our tummies at that point. They did not make it without onions as we asked and did not include the rice noodles we asked. We had to sent it back and realized we did not want to wait another hour for our food, we asked for the check, which came quickly and over charged us. Honestly at this point some kind of apology or offer to comp our food would be nice but of course they did none of that. Dang, Moo Dang! Your food is GOOD! After 2 weeks of the hubby raving about this place, I finally had the chance to try it. As per usual, we ordered 4 dishes for 2 people... you know you are foodies when... Anyway, we started with the shrimp cakes which were basically like the most delicious 'chicken nuggets' of your life. Big pieces of shrimp blended together with pork, breaded, deep fried, and served with a sweet dipping sauce. I can see why they are a popular dish there. Next up, we had the Nam Tok salad with pork - game changer! This dish was perhaps the most amazing thai dish I have ever had and I have eaten a lot of thai food in my day. This was just out of this world good - super tender marinated pork (trust me, get the pork!), sliced onions, lots of herbs, a nice lime dressing, all tossed with roasted rice powered and served with a side of shredded carrots and cabbage - insanely flavorful! We basically licked the plate on this dish. Our entrees were next - moo dang noodle soup and Mee Kra Tee, a thin rice noodle dish with a shallot and coconut sauce. The soup was delicious - flavorful with plenty of nice pork and meatball to make it a hearty meal. But the Mee Kra Tee, oh man, that was awesome! It's like a pad thai made with super thin noodles, but so much yummier! It's hard to explain but the flavors were sweet, nutty, rich and the noodles picked up the sauce perfectly - it's not too saucy either, just enough to coat the noodles. This was served with pieces of fried tofu, fresh sliced cabbage, and a shredded egg omelet on top. Squeeze a touch of lime on and you're good to go! Insider tip - check in on yelp for a free thai tea! We were insanely full after 4 dishes, so the tea came home with us for a later treat. So listen, run, don't walk, to Moo Dang. I hate to be the dissenting vote, but I've got to be truthful and honest as well. I'm giving the extra star (originally was going to go with 3) simply because maybe this was in part me, having overly high expectations; now feeling disappointed and let down. I ordered conservatively for my main course and went with the Yen Ta-Fo Noodle Soup; my thought was that I could stick with easy comfort food. First, it was good, sort of, but didn't measure up to what I expected (again, expectations are real let downs). This had amazing eye and taste bud candy: all the little nibblets they said would be there were definitely there and in abundance. What it lacked was a really good broth; it was overly fishy, had an inappropriate sweetness to it, and was just unfitting to me. It even had a fishy odor to it that, just didn't hit the mark. This was not my finest hour enjoying Thai soup. Venturing back to a happier place the apps were all sorts of yummy. The fish balls (free with check in) were very good, I really enjoyed them. Also very good was the chicken satay, it was tender, moist, and perfectly seasoned. Our server was good, attentive, and polite. The restaurant, on this occasion, was not particularly busy, which may have complimented the visit. I love me some Moo Dang! This restaurant has a great selection of food. I was first introduced to this place because of an event we did here and man it was great. I am glad they revamped the place and have a new menu. The food is great, fresh and exciting. The new menu is inventive and delicious. I ordered their pad thai. This dish had chicken and shrimp in the dish. It was very good. I am very spoiled when it comes to shrimp because of where I grew up so I don't usually get any shrimp on anything here in Reno but the shrimp was very good. It was a pleasant surprise. The chicken was very well done and wasn't dry. It tasted delicious. Can't wait to try more of the menu. Parking for this place isn't bad but I think on a super busy day you might have trouble finding a spot. The staff was friendly and very attentive. Great job on that and the cooks. They did an excellent job on the food. The ambience was casual and is a great place for a first date. The decor is modern and has a clean look to it. This would be a great place to take a date. You can take your family here, they would probably just need notice if you have a big family because they will probably have to rearrange some of the tables to fit a group of 10+ people. I've come back a lot more times since my first review and have to say this is one of my favorite Thai places in town. They aren't your typical Thai, their flavors are a touch different (more sweet and sour than just heat imo) but I enjoy them that way. The service has always been good even though it's normally just one person. The prices aren't too bad and they always have special appetizers offered. Some of my favorite items are the shrimp cakes, which I first tried during reno bites week and I've been hooked since. I enjoy their pad thai, their moo dang soup and their Tom yum noodle soup. The pork meatballs are so tender and flavorful and the wonton pick up the sweetness in the soups. Today I tried the moo ping skewers and I thoroughly enjoyed those too (that sauce has a delayed kick so watch out). I'm not sure what it is but I just become more adventurous when I come here. I think it's the prices and the confidence in their recipes that I'll probably enjoy whatever I try. Today our server, the same guy with the glasses (possibly one of the owners?) got slammed with customers after we ordered. I think almost every, if not all, small table was occupied and he was handling hosting, drinks, taking and delivering orders, cashing out the checks and bussing.... he still managed to ask us how we were doing in a sincere way and get me a to-go container in a normal time frame. I didn't notice when I handed my card but when he returned he said he had given us 10% off for being busy and he felt, lacking service, I thanked him but told him he didn't have to. My new go to Thai in Reno. Love this place. Check in on Yelp! and get a Thai iced tea for only $1.50! Dinner at 4:30 on a Tuesday. We were the only ones in the place, unfortunately. Greeted at the door by John and our server. The place is spacious and clean. Service was impressive - fast, friendly, and extremely attentive. Appetizers were chicken satay and crispy spring rolls. The spring rolls were excellent and the satay was a good as I've ever had anywhere. Main courses were Moo Dang soup, Pad Thai, Phuket Fried Rice, and Panang curry. Every single dish was exceptional - so glad Thai is enjoyed family style! What really sets this place apart from other Thai joints is the selection of noodle soups. When I return (soon) I intend to explore more of this part of the menu. You will be hard pressed to find a friendlier place to eat anywhere. I did a search for Thai in Reno and I saw this highly rated place near my hotel so I thought I would give them a try. After looking at their website and reading that "Moo Dang = Red Roast Pork" I figured I would need to order something with the red roast pork. I ordered the Kra-Pow (Spicy Basil) with the red roast pork, the Green Curry with chicken (my Thai favorite and what I judge all Thai restaurants on), and checked into Yelp to get the free Fish Balls. I must say, I did not care for the Fish Balls. I think I was expecting something else, but it just reminded me of the imitation crab; I have no idea what kind of fish it was but that is what it reminded me of. I liked the Green Curry. Certainly not the best Green Curry I have eaten but a good one. Not as sweet as others I have tried (good thing) and just a little heat. I did not care for the eggplant in the curry, it just turned mushy. I really enjoyed the Kra-Pow and the Red Roast Pork was the best part of it. I would absolutely order it again. Oh great, another Thai restaurant in Reno?!? Those were my thoughts before experiencing Moo Dang. I have my favorite Thai restaurants that I have been going to for years and I was hesitant at first at trying a new place, but I am so glad that I did. Moo Dang was simply delicious. Upon my arrival, I was greeted at the door right away. I was given options by the hostess of where I wanted to sit. I picked a booth in the back corner. There were many parties near by. The hostess chatted with me for a few minutes and was interested on how I have heard of this place. Throughout the evening our waiter checked on our table and provided excellent service. The menu seemed pretty creative and full of noodle dish options. I really like that they have a Happy Hour, which I will definitely be back for. Our waiter made many recommendations, and my friend and I, ordered the Pad see ew and the drunken noodles. My pad see ew was very flavorful with broccoli, carrots, and shrimp, although not very spicy. Next time I would ask to kick up the heat factor. I wasn't in the mood for caffeine, although after reading Yelp reviews, I found out that if you check-in that you get a free Thai Tea. Sounds like an amazing deal to me. I am a huge fan of Thai food, and although I have my favorites around Reno, I was wanting to try something new! A couple friends and I ordered take-out about thirty minutes before closing (which, to be honest, is something I hate doing, but my Thai-food-craving-companions convinced me that it was *ok*). We got the fried wontons, pad see ew, and the panang curry. Ok, to start, the pad see ew is amazing! I would eat an entire container of this myself. The beef was tender, and the veggies weren't overcooked. The Panang curry was also very good - the sauce was the perfect level of spice (I believe we got a 3?). If you are not a fan of spicy, it may be too intense, but we were perfectly happy! Ordering the red roast pork plate, I expected rice to already be included which was not the case, and had to be ordered on top of it. I fail to find anything special about the red pork but that is not to say that it wasn't good because it was, just didn't find anything that made me say wow this is amazing! The pad see ew that my girl friend ordered came in a smaller portion than we expected, usually she would have leftovers enough for a second meal at other places, but not the case here. She did say that it was pretty great and would come back for the flavor, but again not for the size of the portions. The Thai tea had more ice than tea, paid an additional for more ice in my Thai tea. The Thai tea was plenty sweet, but I like my tea a little sweet so this was great. When I give someplace 5 stars on a review I don't look for the reasons why, I look for the reason why I shouldn't. When it comes to Moo Dang I couldn't think of a single reason why I shouldn't. I don't even know where to start with this experience. It was great, how about that! I went to Moo Dang after work for a quick takeout order. I asked the server if there was A Reno Bites deal going on tonight and he brought me the special menu. I didn't even have to look, as I have seen it already from previous post. I ordered my dinner to go then asked if there was a Reno Bites Yelp check in deal, he said yes but it's for dine in only, would I like to sit down? I said no thanks, I'll check in anyway, what I really want is a beer while I wait. He brought me a 60 minute Dogfish Head IPA. A few minutes later he brought me the deal, fried fish balls, he said I put the order through for you anyway. I was instantly impressed with his willingness to take care of me. I sat at at small table near the door and ate my free appetizer, a dish I had never had before, and it was good. Afterwards I asked exactly what they are and he gave me a thorough explanation, leaving me well educated on what a fish ball is. I finished my beer, paid my bill, left a gracious tip and headed home. I wanted to return to Moo Dang and try out some other dishes. I opted for an order of fried spring rolls which were delicious with the very good sweet vinegar dipping sauce on the side. This time the garden fresh rolls were disappointing. Many greens with a sprinkling of ground pork, but no basil nor mint, thus the rolls were without flavor and the mint dipping sauce was very runny and had very little mint flavor. The salt and pepper wings were cooked perfectly. Nice and crispy but too salty for my taste. The dipping sauce had an odd flavor that I decided to pass on. The wings had much dried blood inside and looked like the hapless chickens were not processed humanely. The sukothai noodle soup (two stars) was a bit too spicy. Next time I'll opt for one star. Moo Dang is my go to spot in Reno for some SPICY Thai food. Being in Reno, many Thai places tone down their spice to the point where it's practically non-existent to cater to the majority; but not Moo Dang! When I ask for the most spicy level they have, they deliver! I love spicy food and was surprised to have my dish actually spiced up. It's intense, so I would recommend a 1 or 2 at the absolute max for those who can't handle their spice or want a very small amount. You might not even be able to handle their 2! I usually get 4 or 5 depending on the dish I get because I love the burning sensation and the numbing I get on my lips. The complimentary fish balls you get through the Yelp check-in are delicious, especially dipped with the sauce they put with them. I personally order their tom yum soup, because soups tend to have more heat compared to other dishes. It's sour and spicy and hits the spot. I also like the pad thai and the pad see ew. Everything I've tried here is so flavorful and you can taste every ingredient. Definitely the best Thai place in town. read more

The five star says it all. Excellent food, Superb service and friendly staff, highlight of the evening, getting to meet HANNAH. All the dishes far exceeded our expectations, the eggplant dish was just perfectly spiced and delicious. Sweet and sour chicken amazing, and they don't charge you an extra $1 for extra dipping sauce!!!! I do hope locals support this new locally owned restaurant. Pretty good food, but they're a little shaky on the service. First, I rant: After we were seated, we weren't checked in on for over fifteen minutes. We eventually had to summon the waiter ourselves. No one checked in on us for the remainder of our dinner either. We had to call the waiter every time we needed more water too, which was strange. Two of our three dishes arrived, and our third took five more minutes. They forgot to give me a plate as well, so I had eat off of the platters directly until I asked them for one, which was awkward. Furthermore, they only gave us three paper napkins, which were used up quickly, so we had to constantly ask them for more. Maybe switch to cloth napkins, or have a pile of paper napkins at the table? Now for the food! We ordered the spring rolls and the fried fish balls. Both were incredible. The spring rolls are probably some of my favorite in town; they're so fresh, crispy, and tender inside. The fish balls are also very tasty; I've never had a dish quite like it. For main courses, we ordered the tofu Pad Thai, the chicken curry, and the tofu Tom Yum soup. The soup was just okay; the tofu was a little bland, and the tomatoes chunks were too large to comfortably eat. The Pad Thai was very good, however. The tofu was well cooked and very flavorful, and the noodles were very yummy and fresh. The curry was probably our favorite dish; it had perfect flavor to it, and the chicken was very tender, from what I was told. Overall, it's solid Thai food, but nothing out of this world. My favorite is still in Carson City. The service really let our experience down, but we might be back sometime. read more
