ADA/Handicap ACCESS REVIEW: Music aside.. one of the worst ADA access venues I've been to & I used to work concert venues all over Austin!! If you come in a wheelchair, you should bring an attendant. They promise wheelchairs & assistance on 1st come, 1st serve basis. They will not help you if you're in your own chair. We brought our chairs & used the drop off to avoid shortages. I pushed both my parents' chairs until someone risked their job to assist. The ADA drop-off is down a long, steep ramp on IH35 frontage road. To access their chairs (which can't leave the building), they'd need to what.. I guess crawl or be carried to the door? It was very cold & windy. A guest services member said I had a couple minutes to figure out how to safely get my parents down the steep ramp without them careening into oncoming traffic after the show but was yelled at by security to move faster & get out just as the guest services member finished saying I had a couple minutes. Not one but two security guards walked up yelled (in their projected, egress voices but within feet of us) that we needed to hurry & get out.. while again pushing both wheelchairs, then trying to hold the door open by leaning on it & pulling the chairs one by one out the door. Finally another patron helped. I worked concert/event security for years in Austin & never saw ADA patrons yelled at this way. I was asked to work this venue when it opened but take care of my parents full time now. I'd be embarrassed to say I worked there if this is how patrons are treated. Be warned.. you can call days before the event to make sure what the site says is accurate. (They never called back.) You can read & reread the website and attempt to plan accordingly but it isn't enough. They need to clarify that no assistance is provided for your own chairs & the distance you need to go to request and get assistance with one of their own. I don't believe the ramp is within ADA legal requirements for its incline. They need to at least add a rail. World class shows.. absolutely! World class venue.. not at all. It's just shiny & new. Spent around $1k for this. I'm glad I can compartmentalize and keep the awesome memory of seeing Springsteen with my parents separate from the infuriating lack of concern for patrons needing mobility assistance. After having multiple calls with premium membership team and basically being gas lighted-mistreated, there's no point to being a Germania member or no point in being apart of any club at this moody center arena. They block you from using VIP drop off, they block you at times from using your own entry & exit with no warning. If I just wanted to sit and watch a show I could of bought that online and skipped the run around. It's sad when people are missed treated yet an arena takes 40k up front, they breach their own contracts and financially and mentally abuse club owners - sorry I don't need manipulation, lies, walk around or listen to anyone who has no idea what is going on- the worst I've ever seen an arena handle crowds of people and the business of entertainment ... guess they weren't ready for 10k people nor ready to be accountable. Poorly trained arena staff and I will never invest in this arena ever again - many in the city complain about the drop off, staff and organization of foot traffic .. Arena wake up and start treating people better for the sake of sales and income let alone your job. Customer service never follows up nor looks at their cameras from staff behavior- enough is enough. The buffet / food for $50 as they have thrown my food away and cut you off from eating and waste practically all the buffet food is a poor way of running a buffet and a club .. the bar is separate from buffet yet drinks should be included or a drink ticket with buffet . Better to just go up in the arena and choose more food and save getting what you really want when you want it. read more

The parking is too expensive and the ride share situation is a nightmare. Don't sit in the 200s, they are incredibly steep. Their monitors are tiny and pointless. They charge extra for handicapped seats which is incredibly WRONG. It's better than Frank Erwin, but it still sucks. It gets a second star simply for the fact that the inside is nicer than Frank Erwin. Get it together Austin. It's incredibly simple, easy, and fun to see a show at the AT&T Center in San Antonio. read more

The venue packs a punch. Nick the Bar Manager of the Moody Center went above and beyond making sure our first time experience was the best it could be. I said opps, elevator lady said I might be in that area in my next lifetime.. then went to my peasant seat. First the good: good sound, Andrea Bocelli concert was fantastic. Staff I interacted with was friendly and helpful on the questions I asked about where something was. The bad: I do not think that any of the people involved in the construction of the facility considered that any human people would need to get to or leave the venue. the security lines in were fine, but getting to the building is crap at best. There is indeed a garage next door, with a elevator far away from the venue, a single entrance, and an absurdly long line of cars to get in. I suspect getting out of that one would be just as painful. Upon the end of the concert it took us 40 minutes to get out of the building. crazy packed group of people walking down two escalators, not moving escalator, just escalator appearing staircases. they said it was broken, but I have been here on 3 occasions now and have never seen these magic stairs moving. When there are 15K people, two exits, let us say 1/4 have to make use of one of the two escalators, that is nearly 4,000 people getting to the two staircase elevators at the same time, that is excessive and it was not designed to have people use the facility. just a painful smush of humanity. Food and drink: they do have it, they are very very proud of it. One of those, you are trapped, and it takes so damn long to get people into here, and there is nothing nearby, so we are going to get all the money we can. Mostly mediocre at best food, that is 3x the reality price. I did find one 'gem' that this may break. on the second floor is a pizza place, near section 25? maybe, the pizza way overpriced for a single slice of pizza, but the pepperoni rolls are closer to reasonable as it goes, 3 for 11$ and they taste pretty good. Beer.. reality you might pay up to 13 cents an ounce, here it is about a dollar an ounce, so only a 750% mark up, that seems reasonable right? Cant comment on the crazy mixed drink prices, but similar ballpark I believe. On the plus side there are lots of bars. Seats are a bit on the snug side, I am also bit on the wider butt side and would not call them comfortable, but they are tolerable for a couple of hours, i am sure the crazy expensive floor seats with folding chairs and cushions are better, but not paying that much for concert tickets. Will only be going here if there is a artist that I am just dying to see... might go to a basketball game since those dont have much of a crowd at UT. TLDR: excellent sound, Painful to get into, Very painful to leave, way to expensive to eat/drink read more

Meh. We were really looking forward to experiencing this new venue. The acoustics are quite muddy to the point where performer speech is often unintelligible. The engineers really need to rectify the problem or this will never be a top-tier venue - it's by far my biggest criticism and you see it reflected in other reviews. Erwin was and ACL Live is far better in that regard. The overall space looks reasonably nice but I noticed the ceiling in the men's room was unfinished with some equipment panels hanging open so there are devils in the details. Seems like it opened before construction was complete. The 360 degree flashing marquee can be very annoying - hope you're not epileptic. Layout seems good. Seats are decently comfortable with good lines of sight to the stage. I was surprised how large the subsurface structure is. Some materials chosen could have been sturdier and nicer - feels more mass produced rather than locally crafted. NYC prices in Austin, Texas for drinks and food! Tempted though you may be, try to avoid the trap. This is a place to pre-game heavily. I truly appreciate having multiple options somewhat better than standard concessions but be prepared to pay ridiculous amounts of money if you want to take advantage of them. read more

The sound is horrible, worse than a 1980's boombox. Unbelievable prices a for a ridiculous sound system! Worst IHeart experience ever! What a rip-off! Stay away from this venue for concerts! This is a music venue with a famous name in Austin music. You'd think it would sound good. But no. It sounded like shite tbh. It sounded tinny and distant. I saw speakers on the ceiling but it didn't sound like they were using them. Just really really bad sound. Also F those drink prices. Go ahead and make the tickets more expensive. Don't make me feel ripped off buying drinks. Which is exactly how I felt. It was also really confusing to figure out how to get to your seats. And the seat numbers are small and not lit up. We searched around for 15 minutes trying to find our seats and when we got there, we were given *different* seats and spent another 15 minutes trying to find those. The only good things were that the building looked nice and the stage lights and visuals set up looked fantastic. But I won't be back if I can help it. read more

So far, not great. If a venue is designed for "big acts" you need to make a plan for the fans of these big acts. At normal venues, you can line up and wait for the big act you're trying to see. But at the moody center, they will kick you out and tell you to line up when doors open. How does that make sense? Book some of the biggest artists and just expect their fans to wait until an hour or less before doors open? That's not going to happen. Instead, they make you wait behind the track and basically hope that waiting for your favorite artist was worth it. I will add to my review after the show, but right now I will go out of my way to not ever see a show here again, and would rather travel to Houston or Dallas to see my favorite artists. read more

Moody Center, you have chosen Ticketmaster to represent you as the box office. This is my response to their automated request for a review: Vanessa was great. She seemed like she tried everything to resolve my issue. But, every attempt to get help from above was met with just NO. I purchased at ticket through Ticketmaster App. When selecting a ticket I could not see any seat number only Section/Row...for the whole venue. So I found the section/row my group of friends had purchased and I got seat 28. So I knew you can transfer the seat so I called customer service. Then we had a problem. The seat I bought was $10 more than the one I wanted. I was told no. I said let them know I don't want a refund so keep the $10. That sounds like even to me...but response from mystery manager was "No"...good business model guys...sarcasm intended. So, intentional-or-not, by definition a fraud committed. Then I was denied a refund, denied a request to communicate with another customer service rep (one with more authority), and told to go sell your ticket and buy seat 10. Except that I can not select the seat, the whole reason we began. (iPhone 14 pro running Ticketmaster App). I have screenshots to prove this. Then last I was told that someone would contact me the next day. Needless to say I am not surprised that no attempt to call me was made. 1. It was 103 degrees at 6pm. Hundreds of folks showed up around 6:30pm hoping to get inside to explore the new venue, eat and drink. Those folks refused to open the security check points even 1 minute early despite there being absolutely zero shade out there on that concrete. The required mobile ticket does not show a "doors" time (although I found it buried on the website after almost suffering heat stroke). PLEASE ADD "DOORS" INFO TO THE MOBILE TICKET!! And for heaven's sake, when its 103 degrees perhaps you can unlock the doors even 15 minutes early. This show was a mostly older crowd and many were in ball gowns and heels or suits. Staff sat on the other side of the glass doors and stared at us. Utterly callous. 2. There are venue and security staff everywhere, but not a one could tell us where our section was. This is because all the giant signs overhead only mark where numbered "portals" are, no markers for "sections" unless you look on the wall next to each opening into the arena. Is your section on another floor? Who the hell knows, because the signs, again, only guide you to portals. What is a portal, you ask? I assume they are entry ways into the suites, which makes sense that they'd only make it easy for the high rollers to find their way around, but the signage system at this venue needs a massive overhaul. I mean massive. 3. The food "self" system is odd. You select your items then go to a self checkout kiosk. There are multiple kiosks, however you have to present your ID so there are multiple staff milling about to check them. No time savings or payroll savings here, I can't imagine. 4. Parking at the Manor garage is super close and seemingly convenient. Park here for a 3 hour event? That'll be $65, please! WOWZA! I know this sort of gouging is typical, but a sign would have been nice. And the signs to get to regular people parking vs VIP parking are a disaster. Cars everywhere and none of us knew where to go. Arrows pointing literally to concrete barriers telling us to "turn here." Now park your car and get on the elevator but there's no FLOOR 1, so you take the elevator to floor 2 then wander around looking for stairs that don't say, "closed for construction." After the show walking back to the garage is extremely dark, no lighting inside the construction temporary pathway, and it's zig-zaggy so tons of places for someone to jump out and ruin your night. Again, signage needs a massive overhaul. There needs to be lighting EVERYWHERE leading to the many venue garages. This shouldn't have to be said. 5. And finally, the seats. I'm not expecting a recliner, okay? But these seats are almost lurching forward a bit so you're fighting to sorta stay in your seat the whole time, thus leading to the kind of back pain that makes ya leave the show early. The back of each seat has a plastic cup holder right at the spot where folks would prop a foot up. PLASTIC. So of course many cup holders were broken off. Cup holders are really nice to have, perhaps use metal and screw those bad boys in big time. The venue has tons of potential. The size is very much like the Cedar Park Center and the sound is fantastic. That said, civilization has decades worth of arenas built around the world that could have served as a model for exploration and design improvement execution. The University of Texas has access to arguably some of the brightest engineering minds on the planet- there's no excuse for most of the above. I've been to Dallas Cowboy stadium that hosts 100k per game and let me tell you it was clear as day where to go and how to get there. This center is difficult to get to, closest parking has to be reserved ahead of time to make sure you get a spot ($30-$40). There is tons of traffic already in Austin area then add an event at Moody Center, a event at the stadium next door and some road closures, and you'll spend a lot of time getting there. Give yourself plenty of extra time and patience. The place itself was nice, clean, seemed safe, plenty of bathrooms, several food options throughout. Lines seemed long but moved fast. I feel like food/other items were a little more expensive then usual like at the AT&T center, maybe the times maybe the location, not sure. The seats are ok size and individualized to sit in but are all linked together at the bottom somehow so if once person is bouncing/shaking everyone can feel it. The sound quality was not bad either, seems they have things in place to avoid the usual awful sound that arenas can sometimes have. Was wondering how sound would be in the arena setting but we were pleasantly satisfied. read more

Problems with the Moody Center, as this was my first experience. I bought event parking, and got to the Moody Center two hours before the event to allow for traffic delays, and to get something to eat and relax before the show. The Moody website indicated that food was available inside. To my shock, the Moody Center was not allowing ticket holders to enter the building until one hour before the performance started. Moody is located in a congested area with no place to wait, and it was an extremely hot hot afternoon with no shelter other than to go back into the garage and sit in my car with the air conditioning running until they opened the building. Horrible customer service. Of course, none of this information was on the website. If you arrive more than an hour early, you will be standing outside in the hot sun waiting to get inside a warm building which gets to my next point. When I finally got inside, the air conditioning was almost non existence in the theater venue. Warm and uncomfortable, that even the star attraction that night commented that he might have to pay for some air conditioning. Not good. I will likely find other venues for live entertainment, as the congested location, poor traffic flow, no confortable areas to wait for the doors to open, makes this an unpleasant evening and hardly worth the effort or expense. read more

Understand this is newly built so prices will be outrageous... but I went to see Justin Bieber & Lizzo here and it was not as chaotic and unorganized as SZA. Staff and security guards did not care of fights breaking out and we waited in the box office line to see if we could get a ticket and they just did not care, they had there feet up on there phones & waited to sell tickets at 8:50pm when concert started at 8pm. Also the new GM is something else. I do understand competition between venues but he is genuinely trying to get the H-E-B center in Cedar Park closed and take all there business ... Was really excited to come here but this place really frustrated me. It's a pretty place but had no drop off access so I had to walk longer than I would like to in humid weather while dressed up. The signs on the inside really sucked. We walked around the whole arena until we were back to where we started just to realize that's where our elevator to our section was in the first place. We asked some staff where to go and they could barely even point us in the right direction. Restrooms all ran out of toilet paper so women were having to prepare to use the restroom by grabbing napkins. A janitor in the mens restroom was asking for tips. It was just a mess and I don't think they were prepared for a huge concert like George strait. read more

Big problem with parking. The website gave 3 garage choices. Easy to prepay but THEN roads are all closed. Took 90 minutes to go around venue to enter from the west. Super simple to give advise on internet. "If using manor garage, exit from 35 on xxxx, go west on xxxxx, turn right on xxxx" why couldn't they give steps like that? Then on the ticket there is no comment about "pods". So I had to ask help to know what pod I needed to enter. More information please!!! read more

Beautiful new venue with all stadium seats. It gets scary steep the higher you go. We saw Journey on a Wednesday night. The concert sounded great! Our seats felt further from the stage than I expected. We were disappointed that they stopped serving their signature cocktail at 9pm. Food service was closing around then too. Journey started at 9pm. It seemed early for a concert venue to close down food and beverage service. Food and drinks are expensive similar to other concert venues. Water was $5 or $6 for a frame of reference. Parking was difficult to find since most spots on Campus require a UT Parking Permit and we arrived after 7pm. We used pedi cabs that were $20 to and $40 back from a garage off Red River. TIP: Clear or small bag policy was enforced. read more

No complaints about Bocelli concert, nor the staff support. Costs were sky high, esp. of beverages. Sound was decent. View were semi-blocked (of the huge screen that are a vital part of this amazing show - by speaker/light system suspended). Terrible parking, terrible pricing, excessive overpricing after trading out tickets purchased on release date and then transfer fee to Ticketmaster, tacking on additional $50 per ticket. WTH? What is wrong with this? You pay $40 parking and get a ticket for backing into your space (due to the #of trucks that block your view and not being able to exit the garages). Note - I am very familiar with all UT's facilities and spaces/parking, etc. Epic fail. So dangerous at this point (and probably forever) to get to a garage or wherever your ride is as people are walking on the service road to I-35. Fix this. Once in a lifetime event and I am glad I was taken. However, my friend was financially taken for a huge ride on her CC. You should be refunding all of this and fix what is horrifically broken. No, your construction will not improve the parking nor the prices. I have no idea how it's going to be for the Basketball games, but honestly, I will not be going due to the logistics being a massive fail. Afraid of touch? Still not sure about a big venue after COVID? If so, you may want to skip this venue. There's a lot to love about the new Moody Center. Considering the University handles large crowds on a regular basis, they did an almost great job with making a near perfect venue. Between the countless entrances on both levels, tons of food and beverage stops and plenty of attended bathrooms, I was very impressed... until I got to our seats. They pack you in like sardines. I'm an average size female and I was literally sitting shoulder to shoulder with those next to me. When I say shoulder to shoulder, I mean literally. I had to sit sideways in my seat to prevent becoming too cozy with my neighbor. The seating is spaced well vertically, my head was at about the knees of the people behind me so I suspect everyone had a good view of the show. The rows themselves are also very long so if you are toward the center, it's going to be hard to leave and come back. Hit the concessions before you go in and don't drink too much unless you have "end seats". Another item in the "plus" column is that the sound is much better here than it ever was at the Erwin center. read more

I was here for the Feb 4, 3:30pm Cirque du Soleil show. Absolutely worst logistics and traffic flow I've ever experienced for a venue. I arrived AN HOUR early at 2:30, but didn't get into my seat until 3:50. The roads were all closed off that the website directions said to take. Traffic was backed up and there was no flow when I had to circle around. It took me 1.5 hours to park and get into the venue, so I was late...along with I'm estimating 15% of the audience who continued to filter in past 4pm (30 minutes after the show started). I do NOT recommend this venue and I am disappointed they couldn't have planned better. I hope this is a one-time fiasco and not a sign of future chaos at every event. Austin Police Department does an amazing job of traffic control Information on parking is incredibly challenging to get. Parking, nearby is expensive. No considerations for people that do not have credit or debit cards - some people (OMG) actually use cash, or they would like to The biggest negative is: parking garage opens at 6: 00 but the Center does NOT open until 7. ok, in some cases this might not be so bad - but for people dressed nicely, to wait in RECORD SETTING HEAT - for an hour at 102 degrees is miserable. Went to a UFC Fight Night and this place has so many rules and the cost of everything is crazy. Getting there will be the first difficult task. So we got lucky because we had a Lyft driver that knew his way around and was able to tell security something that allowed us to be dropped in front of the building. Most people looked like they had walked far to get in line. DO NOT BRING A PURSE or anything but money and a phone because everything else will be taken and thrown in the trash. There are not many people working there that will help. I asked a bartender how to get to the floor and she said "I don't know". We basically had to walk all around to find out how to get to the floor. It requires walking all the way down the stadium level seats to the bottom. Then finding a way to locate seats that are not labeled is another story. They had written on the floor the section, row, and seat numbers but it was worn off to barely noticeable plus it was dark. People were in our seats and luckily I found someone who would help. We paid $600+ a seat to be so close to others that we were shoulder to shoulder and arms to arms. The seating space couldn't be any smaller. I'm small and it was so tight for me. It's an adequate amount of space for a 7 year old, not full grown adults. Being at the ground level with fewer people likely made our experience better because there weren't lines for bathrooms or drinks. The ground level had self checkout with an attendant checking ids. All in all we were in a better place but still got paying so much for tickets and drinks, I feel like it should have been so much more enjoyable. The people sitting higher up had super long lines for the bathrooms. Ticket sellers and the Moody Center need to better inform people attending the rules for entry. It's on the site but listed in an A-Z directory of info that is so hard to find answers in. I knew because I looked at the rules but a lot of people did not and were throwing away purses or walking back to their cars really far away. I didn't see any bag check. They lazily check people too because the ticket scan is so close they're rushing everyone through. We did have to toss out disposable vape devices, those are not allowed even though you're not using them inside. Total BS. I will avoid this place in the future. It's just too much hassle to attend an event here. I get it, downtown is busy but they could shuttle people or find parking somewhere. It makes for a stressful experience and then it's hard to have a good time. read more

Went to the Moody Center for the first time last night for the Barry Manilow concert. Concert scheduled to start at 7:00PM. Planned to have dinner at local cafe nearby but it was closed. There are virtually no eating establishments anywhere close to the Moody Center. So we headed to the Moody Center and decided we would eat at one of the venues inside the center. We got to the center at approximately 5:30PM. Discovered that Moody does not allow entry until 6PM; in fact it was after 6PM by the time they opened the doors. So we had to wait in 102F heat. Once we got inside we decided to eat at the Stubbs BBQ place. The food was very mediocre; it was expensive and the choices were extremely limited: sandwich and French fries and drinks. I had a canned cider which (with taxes, fees) was almost $20! Once we got our food we discovered that there are virtually no places to eat your food; there are a tiny number of high tables; not nearly enough for the number of people attending an event; you are forced to try to eat your overpriced dinner standing up and you're lucky if you can find a place to place your plate (e.g. a serving table of one of the eateries). It is also next to impossible to find a drinking fountain; I presume they want to sell you a $4 or $5 bottle of water. The concert was good; Barry Manilow had a good show; but didn't come on stage until about 8PM; the opening act was a comedian/musician that performed for about an hour prior to the show. The tickets were reasonably priced but the fees and taxes almost inflated the cost by double. All in all not a great experience and would be hesitant to return. read more

the sound system is AWFUL. It may sound decent on the floor but the seated area sounds muddy, distorted, and is NOT loud enough. I refuse to go to another show here; it was a horrible and disappointing experience. Wow. Who approved that sound system?! read more

While the venue is beautiful and well-appointed, it fails miserably in the most important aspect - sound quality. As you may have read in reviews of other concerts, the Foreigner/Loverboy concert on 8/14/23 was the worst sound for any concert - professional or amateur - in any venue, that I've ever experienced. The speakers near the ceiling were, for about 75% of the concert, a FULL BEAT or more lagging the live audio and sound coming from the speakers in from of the stage. It was impossible to enjoy the music - even the bands' chart-topping hits that I should have easily recognized and been able to sing along. It was also impossible, on the second level, to understand ANY of the spoken audio between the songs. Had we not made the significant investment for the tickets, we would have left the concert MULTIPLE times. The Moody Center is NOT the venue you should choose to hear any band you care anything about. The incredibly poor sound system was clearly a distraction and an insult and to the performers and the audience. read more

The venue itself is wonderful. However, we could not park until 6:30 for a 7:30 show (parking garage policy) and by the time we arrived from the 1/2 mile away parking garage, we only had 30 minutes to enjoy the Germania Club. We purchased two $54 buffet wristbands, and the buffet looked delicious. HOWEVER, plastic utensils made eating the food impossible. You could not cut the standing rib roast. It was our first visit to the Moody Center and we knew the prices would be high. I just ended up not enjoying the dining experience. Seats were comfortable, there were enough restrooms so long lines didn't prevent you from getting back to your seat. Next visit we will explore other dining options. That was the most disappointing part of the night. read more

Longtime basketball season ticket holder and was so looking forward to this venue, although frankly I never quite understood why we were so ready to give up the Erwin Center that has been very well-maintained over the years. Well, surprise, surprise - this $375 million arena a real disappointment. I mean, with all the hype we were thinking stellar, but it is really just average, and certainly doesn't merit leaving the Erwin Center. The food is outrageously expensive, especially for basketball, and it is all "cute" instead of just food. So for example they sell these little bags of chocolate covered popcorn for $7 or $8 and regular popcorn is $3 for a box the size of a small box of tissues. Chicken for $14, BBQ for $12 and more, on and on. Can we just get some regular basketball food? Much of it is self-serve, and they still want a tip. And of course all the vendors who were with school organizations earning band trips, etc. are long gone, so no tips. The entrance is through basically one set of doors, and you get to wait outside in the rain (no umbrellas inside, really??) until private security decides to let you in, maybe on time or not. Doesn't matter if you are a Foundation member or not. If you drink, you are in luck because there are literally BARS everywhere, but bring you high-limit card, because they ain't cheap. Finding food, not so easy; finding booze, you are in luck! Not sure what the complaints are about from concert-goers related to acoustics - we thought there was so much sound dampening the BB games are actually pretty quiet- you can barely hear the band. Sound just gets lost in the building. The bathrooms are pretty nice but already have failing hardware on the partitions and some of the faucets work or not. You can say what you want about the Erwin Center, but it was kept up and the people were friendly. Now we have security on the court with a show of force during each time out. Not a good look. Don't tear down the Erwin Center just yet... read more
