We went to Moodys Butcher shop this morning and everything was looking so good! All the meats were thick and nicely cut. Seafood look very good. Next time definitely going purchase some seafood. The place was really clean and had a clean smell to it. The gentleman who help us was very knowledgeable and check us out. He sign us up on how to get point with are purchase. I buy all of our meat here. I think it is important to know where our food comes from. As well as fresh cut beef, pork and chicken, they have some fresh fish. They have a nice selection of gourmet cheeses, several bbq rubs and sauces. And my favorites are there house recipe sausages that they have fresh and frozen. If you have a need for a large order, or even a small one you can tell them a couple days in advance and they will have it for you. read more

Had a good experience my first time in. They greeted me, answered all my questions and the meats look really good. I purchased some Amish chicken, NY strip steaks and some local cheese from Tulip Tree. Decent prices but the only thing I didn't like was that the prices weren't on anything I inquired about. I did like the fact that they have a loyalty program. I signed up for that. I'm looking forward to trying to locally sourced meat that they actually process. But they actually close 30 minutes to an hour before the listed time, and will get borderline belligerent with you if you show up after that time, especially on a Sunday. Five Star meats and service. I really enjoyed the different meats I've had from Moody's. My wife makes a crock pot dish using the thick cut boneless pork chops (with pork stuffing and no sugar apple pie filling) that turns out fantastic with the meat having a great savory flavor. I also picked up some of the breakfast sausage that is not too spicy, but with enough flavor to wake up your taste buds! The folks behind the counter were very helpful and freezer wrapped everything I ordered. No waiting all day for service either! And when I mentioned it was my first time shopping at this location, they told me to pick out a FREE package of bacon! I don't know if they do that for all first time guests, but I hadn't even made a large purchase. I was very appreciative! So why not five stars on my rating? Well a couple things. The place just needs a makeover. It may seem a bit trite to knock off a star for appearance, but if you have been to the Zionsville location, that place is beautifully laid out with far more options on displays that are neat and clean and filled with artisanal items that might go well with your purchase. That store sets the standard for all meat shops! So, even though this place sells the same quality meats and the folks are nice, it just doesn't draw you in like the place to the north. And the location is a bit of a problem for visitors who want to turn left out of their parking lot. The shop sits next to a hill that has definite blind spots for traffic coming from the north. I had to have my wife watch to the right while I waited for an opening in traffic from the left. Lots of traffic with no center lane to pull into. It's so nice to have Moody nearby for their amazingggg bacon (we literally had to make ourselves a bacon budget because of it) and they have great deals on their frozen meats on Mondays. There's an awesome variety of foods available and some great local items too like rubs, honey, and lick ice cream (worth every penny). I would say that service can be a hit or a miss. I've had some really awesome experiences with the employees here and have really benefited from their expertise. I've also had a few run ins that made me consider only visiting the Zionsville location in the future. The location is also not great and can be pretty difficult to get to and get out of depending on the time of day. I also agree with others who have noted that the Zionsville location just looks and feels nicer but this one works for those of us who live nearby. read more

We've been here a few times to get some "premium" steaks for a nice weekend dinner. We generally get ribeye's and NY strips. My GF loves this place, but I think it's way too expensive and the steaks aren't any better than Kroger or Meijer. In fact, I consistently have better steaks from both grocery stores than I've ever had from Moody's. The Moody's steaks don't taste bad or anything, just not anything special or worth the premium. employees are not helpful at all . I purchased frozen premium ground beef from freezer. The sign said 20 percent off premium ground beef. When the discount did not ring up, I had a employee tell me it is a different premium ground beef not the one I purchased. This condradicted the sign and another employe. I have had issues the last three visits. Have been going since they opened the Avon location. I will know take my business elsewhere. read more

Been here twice now. Not impressed. Today, went in for some thick cut ribeyes and they wouldn't cut them. They had pre-cut 1" and that was what I had to take. I should have walked out, but I needed the two steaks. I feel like they hide behind all of the natural bullshit to impress those people on that particular bandwagon. This is not a good, local butcher shop. The pimply kid at Kroger will cut my ribeye, sure will be at a 45 degree angle, but at least they do it. read more

Oh gosh... this place was wonderful. We came to buy brisket to use in our sous vide later that week and immediately noticed the sign advertising the best bacon in Indiana, so we couldn't NOT buy some (the next morning I had a few bites of said bacon and oh my gosh it was good!). I also spotted some locally made root beer so we bought some of that as well. I drank this root beer and loved it! I would definitely recommend this butcher shop in the future as it was everything a butcher shop should be: a great place to buy local products including good meats (the brisket turned out to be amazing later in the week). We got great customer service from the gentleman working there. It didn't seem too busy at the time that we were shopping, but as we were on vacation we may have been shopping at an unusual time. read more

I should probably preface this review by saying the only thing I ever buy here is ground beef, and bacon on special occasions. (Oh, that bacon...) This ground beef is fantastic. It's very lean, so I never have to drain the skillet after browning it, but it's soooo tasty. And it never has those little hard mystery bits that I always found in grocery store ground beef. (You know what I'm talking about. What ARE those things?!) Yes, it does cost more than the hamburger you'd buy at the store, and I've seen people ask why you would pay more for the same thing. But that's just it- it's NOT the same. It's fresh, high quality meat from local cows grown on local farms, and it does taste different. It tastes better. I always go straight to the freezer that holds the prepackaged ground beef, but they do have a small selection of fresh veggies, local honey, eggs, and dairy items. I hate to overpay for things and am very cheap... er, "thrifty"... but I will make a special trip every time and pay more every time to get this meat rather than buy it at the grocery store. We decided to do something different and stay in for Valentine's this year. The butcher we typically use for nice cuts of meat has closed so we decided to give Moody's a try. I went in to the Avon store the day before Valentine's and was happy to find they still had several great looking filets available. A friend had recently recommend their bacon so I picked up a pack of that as well. The filets were perfect, similar in size, and cooked up wonderfully in a garlic butter sauce. Today we enjoyed the 3 pepper bacon alongside our eggs and used the remaining slices in our 3 meat chili -- the added flavor was noticeable and made our "signature" chili all the better! read more

We needed some lamb shanks in two weeks and these guys had the freshest local meat I've seen! It was there i time and they called as soon as they arrived. Great service in the telephone and in person and a great selection in store. This will be our burger from now on we joined their rewards program on site. We live in Indiana. Which is in the Midwest. Which is farm country. So why do so many people buy crappy grocery store meat that has been trucked in from some CAFO thousands of miles away? Support your local farmer! I have been shopping at Moody's for years. I was bummed when they closed their City Market location a few years ago but other than that, they have never disappointed me. Now I drive to the Avon or Zionsville shops to pick up everything I need for grilling out at home or tailgating. We live on the southside, so the fact that I would drive that far just to go to a butcher shop should tell you something. Their products are fresh and come direct from their sustainable farm in Ladoga, IN. Once you taste this stuff, you'll never want to eat crappy meat again. I have eaten the chicken, eggs, beef, pork, and lamb, and all are excellent. I once ordered a large brisket from Moody's, packed it up, and trucked it seven hours away to a family get together in Missouri. I was told by a BBQ pro that it was the best brisket he's ever had. Every time I bring Moody brats and burgers to the tailgating group, they get rave reviews. The chicken bombs are also a favorite. The service is top notch at all locations. They offer tours of their farm, which is a nice option. Farmers shouldn't be embarrassed for the public and their customers to see their conditions. They should actually be proud to show off their operations. If they're good stewards of the land and animals, that is. The next time you're in need of something to throw on the grill or a roast to cook for mom and dad, head to Moody's. The experience will be moooooving. read more

There's a lot to like about Moody's. The meat they offer is delicious and I've never had any quality of freshness issues. They stock local products, which is always a good way to go. They also offer things other than meats - local eggs, fresh breads, cheeses, preserves, etc. The service has always been good and I always leave with a smile on my face and a bag full of meaty goodness. The only downside is they don't have a huge selection. A few additional cuts of beef would be appreciated, as well as more pork choices. And most items are prepackaged or precut - I don't think I could walk in and get sausage in bulk or a whole beef tenderloin. But these are minor complaints and certainly won't stop me from going back. Is Moody's the best butcher in all of the Indy area? Probably not. But they are the best place to get local, responsibly raised meat in Avon and that's good enough for me. read more

Ok being in Avon we have no Traders Joes or Whole foods so between here and Back in Time natural store...I am pretty set on food and supplements and beauty products that I can't get at the supply house. Moody Meats has a great selection of fish and chicken, plus a big section on red meats. They have marinades and sauces, dairy, plus a deli meat and cheese section. It's always very clean and the staff is as helpful as they can be, meaning they are usually pretty busy. I don't find the prices to be that expensive. This isn't mass produced meat. Just finding the place, I have to say I am kinda timid in the store. I suggest if you have questions and want to talk to a staff member about there products to go in while they are not busy. Go to their website moodymeats.com for hours because I don't want to get them wrong They also have tours of the farm which I think is super cool of them. I'm not into seeing my food while it's still alive but if that's your thing- you have that option! read more

As someone who developed his taste for responsibly raised meats during his formative college days in Crawfordsville, I have been familiar with Moody Meats through their Ladoga location for some time. However, my more immediate proximity to its Avon location brought me there today on a quest at the behest of my foolhardy best friend who thinks it will behoove him to get married this Saturday. At least we can use grass-fed delicious cuts of meat to appease the hunger of the guests, right? So when I called asking if they could accommodate a significant order for a couple of cured hams, a couple of beef roasts, and various other meat products, I was happy to find that they indeed could. Their prices are reasonable for what you get--basic assurance that your meat was raised in conditions that a reasonable person would prefer. That is to say with grass at their feet rather than ankle deep in fecal concentrates. They also have a frequent buyers club wherein one can qualify for a free fillet, so that was nice too. I think their chicken might be a little high on price, but I've had it and it very chickeny chicken for sure so it is probably worth it. Their staff was helpful and even a bit funny. The store carries some Trader's Point Creamery products, which seems a nice symbiotic relationship for them to proffer. They are closed on Sunday and Monday, I believe. Owner is an asshole and yells all the time for no reason. Meat is sub par at best. Not really worth the money or the time considering most people don't want to give their hard earned money to someone who doesn't deserve it anyway. I simply do not understand why someone would pay more for a product that is exactly the same somewhere else at a cheaper price. I will take into consideration that Avon was mentioned in this review (they like to think they are better than everyone else) but there is absolutely no reason to pay there prices. A very quick google of Penn and Teller organic foods from youtube brings up the fact that in most cases they are worse for you not better. Someone mentioned their cattle live in fields not manure filled stalls! Lets think about this for a moment, is it cheaper to allow a cow to free range and eat grass that does not have to be planted or to leave it in a stall and buy all of its food? If you can not figure out the answer to this you have a mental disability (or live in Avon). Google Penn and Teller bottled water, shows how the rich think paying more means its better. read more

NOT DEPENDABLE FOR SPECIAL ORDERS!!!! My sister ordered a FRESH organic free range turkey weeks before Christmas. The day of pick up CHRISTMAS EVE She was informed they did not have it. No apologies no explanations (I'm sure they gave it to someone else). They said they were giving me a discount on a frozen turkey. After purchasing it she informed me the whole reason she made the order was the "fresh never frozen" quality. I then realized they discounted the price of a fresh turkey and I had received a frozen turkey. So I paid the same price I would have paid for a frozen, organic free range turkey at Kroger. Now the turkey that should have been done cooking tonight might be thawed by Christmas! I should have left it there! read more
