We had a very disappointing experience at Moo Moo, mainly because of poor management and unclear pricing. When we arrived, our waitress seated us, took our order, and clearly told us that our kids would eat for free. Based on that, we ordered the premium meat option for two adults. She also limited us to only two premium selections and did not allow my youngest child to have their own hot pot. My older child was charged a small fee for an extra pot, which we agreed to. Throughout the entire meal, we were treated as if we were only paying for two adults, which matched what we were told. After we finished eating, the general manager Qin came over and demanded my kids to walk to the front of the restaurant to be measured for their height in front of everyone like ICE Agents demanding us getting mug shots. It was embarrassing and completely inappropriate. After that, she told us one child would be charged at forty percent off and the other would be charged full adult price. This was never explained to us before ordering. I told her that I was willing to pay if everything had been clearly explained from the beginning. But we were told the kids were free, were restricted on premium items, and were not allowed additional pots. We only received two adults worth of premium food, lobsters, scallops, shrimp, etc and the kids shared one pot, plus the one extra pot cost. Being charged afterward felt misleading and unfair. Instead of taking responsibility, Qin said the waitress was new and did not know the policy. As a general manager, that is her responsibility. Proper training, clear pricing, and basic customer respect are expected, and she failed in all three. Her attitude and handling of the situation ruined our family dinner. Having my kids publicly measured made us feel embarrassed and disrespected. We left feeling upset and misled. We will not be returning, and I strongly recommend other families clarify pricing in detail before ordering. This restaurant needs better management and customer service read more

A solid hot pot place in the Irvine area! This place does get pretty busy so just make sure to come earlier to put your name down. The host was super nice and she came around quite often to check on us. We just went for the regular menu and I honestly think that's perfectly enough. Out of all the cuts I loved the beef short plate. It was extremely tender. I also really enjoyed their ginger sauce, which is pretty unique. Also, they do have ice cream at the end. I do wish the other servers can be around more often since we waited a while to get additional rounds of meats. However, it is a soft opening and all the servers were working super hard. Some of the side dishes at the self serve bar were misses and there wasn't much variety. The drinks are also included! We enjoyed the yogurt drink. The restaurant is spacious and felt clean but the pots produce steam and it dripped onto the floor and on my feet. My best friend was treating me and we got the premium option. We found out that we could have the seafood combo cooked and opted for the golden treasure style. Everything was lightly battered and fried and tasted great! The only thing I didn't like was the corn which had a waxy texture. I chose the original bone broth and found it to be a bit bland so I would choose a more flavorful broth next time! Came here to celebrate my mom's birthday, and they did not disappoint with the choices of meat and side bars. I got the Thai-Tom Yum soup base and holy cow was it so good! I'd get it again, no doubt! The side bars was satisfactory, balanced between your veggies, a wide-variety of protein choices, and your cooked side dishes. The sauce bar is too fun I went back several times to try different combinations. The drinks bar had great yoghurt drink, black tea, and water--along with boba pearls or red beans to add into your drink. They also serve noodles in a pack to add to your base and of course rice in the cooker. There's a good variety of items at the hot foods bar with things like fried chicken wings, salt & pepper shrimp, braised pork belly and kung pao chicken. Some things are better than others. Unlimited drinks are also included. They have a fridge with canned sodas or you can order yogurt drinks, Hokkaido milk, plum juice and hot teas from your server. Their iced jasmine green tea was surprisingly strong and flavorful. You can choose from ice cream or cheesecake for dessert. The cheesecake was pretty good and creamy. There were four flavors of ice cream and they were decent, except for the matcha which didn't taste like anything. This place has potential but they need to work on some things if they're trying to offer a premium experience. The service was hit or miss. We opted for the premium menu which as of this post was around $60 per person before tax and tip. However that price may change after their soft opening. The options on this premium option were outstanding, with high quality meats and seafood. We enjoyed every option! My personal favorite were all the wagyu selections! The drinks and hot food items were good and had some great options. I will say this, after my experience, if the price increases to more than $60 for the premium I may have second thoughts on getting it. Maybe once in a while, but certainly not regularly. I was excited to try an AYCE hot pot place, and MooMoo definitely exceeded my expectations especially when considering its price. Came on a Thursday around 7pm and was immediately seated. There were also other groups dining in but the restaurant is quite spacious. Staff were friendly and attentive, I also appreciate they always were keeping the areas clean. I like how each person gets to choose their own broth, which I got the sukiyaki. The sukiyaki broth was really good, with the right amount of sweetness and it was not salty at all which is nice since oftentimes sukiyaki at other places can get salty. After choosing the soup, we were able to order unlimited meat which we could do 4 at a time. The wagyu (chuck roll and brisket) was definitely the highlight of all the meats, they were soft and tender, and I can see why they're known for their wagyu. The beef tongue was good too. We also got to choose any sides, hotpot toppings, and even drinks at the food court area, which they had a large selection. They also had a lot of sauce options and initially I didn't notice they had recipes above which is helpful. At the end, me and my friend got the ice cream even though I was full, which I got the matcha flavor and I could tell it was good quality. Overall, MooMoo was well worth the price. It is definitely on the more pricier end (~$60-70 per person for dinner time) so I would most likely only come by for special occasions. Just another Mikiya shabu clone that's not very good. While Mikiya doesn't necessarily own the wagyu AYCE shabu shabu experience, they're credited with being one of the first ones and at scale. Then you see these restaurants take almost every nook and cranny detail from the plates to the ambience to the selection and price points as well. The only decent thing about this restaurant is the meat quality. At least they delivered on that. One of the worst things was their seafood platter. It was very frozen and became very stale from sitting in the freezer all day. I've heard someone call it culinary frostbite, and whatever that means, I think I understood what they meant. Everything else was very subpar, and hella tacky. They even misspelled "Wagyu Brisket" on their little labels and instead it says "Wagyu Brister". While a little misspelling at any average restaurant could be expected or overlooked, a restaurant like this trying to create this premium-line ambience and higher end quality meat cuts, it just comes off incredibly tacky. The self serve area was just terrible. They had offerings that were never replenished, people constantly just hovering over everything. The teas did not taste great. When we came there wasn't a wait and they were able to take us in right away. I like that the pots are individual pots with over 10 different flavored broths to choose from. I went with their Spicy Tallow broth which was an additional $5 I believe. They warned that it was extra spicy but I enjoyed the Sichuan spicy flavor. All of the meats we tried were cool. Some better than others. Some were a little too lean and were chewy. Some were really good. But all tasted fresh. At the self service bar they have lots of options for sauces. They even had veggies, seafood, and items to put in your hot pot. For hot items they had fried items, noodles and even mapo tofu. Drinks were included, such as sodas and teas. At the end they offer you 4 different types of ice creams (strawberry, green tea, vanilla, and cookies & cream). The service was excellent. They made sure to check on us and were knowledgable about the menu. The staff was also really good about taking away our empty plates. The restaurant is pretty large and I like that it was spacious. What broths, meat, and other items did we try? - House Spicy Beef Tallow Broth: This was my choice of broth. Beef tallow and chili are stir-fried with a variety of spices to create a unique flavor. It wasn't spicy at all, I liked it. I mean it had a little spice to it, but not a burn your booty hole spice. - Beef Tongue: I think I prefer beef tongue cooked any other way besides boiling it haha. I feel like boiling it makes it more rubbery. Still good though! - Wagyu Chuck Roll: Pretty good, I recommend it. - Wagyu Brisket: This meat was good. Super tender with a good amount of fat. I could not stop ordering this one. Highly recommended. - Deluxe Seafood Combo: Lobster tail and jumbo scallop. There's an option for the chef to cook this for you at no extra charge. We opted for that and chose "Golden Treasure", which is cooked with salted egg yolk, pumpkin, french fries, corn, and garlic. One of the best AYCE Hotpot places i've been to. it's about $60 per person for the premium. If you're a fan of seafood, this is the place to be. They give each table 1 serving of lobster/giant scallops and you can have it cooked 4 different ways or just get it raw. Raw looks more aesthetic for pics, but we opted to get it cooked and it was more delicious imo. Then you can get unlimited tiger shrimp/oysters/abalone/mussels. They also offer 2 wagyu options in the premium AYCE as well as all the other typical meats like lamb/pork belly/ etc. Then you can help yourself to their fridge for sodas, or their drinks station with teas and yogurt drinks. In addition there are specialty drinks you can order included with the AYCE menu. - this is probably where they got me, but i'm not mad. Well, this place not only have all of that, they let you choose how you want your lobsters done! And I don't just mean you either boil it in the pot, they actually have 4 different ways of preparing your lobsters!! So for all of you that craves for lobsters preparation just like those Cantonese restaurants, you get to pick how you want it done here, and they actually taste pretty good!! So just for that uniqueness, I would come back again. Servers were all very tentative, and I love how you can just call any one of them, and they can help you order your meats unlike other places, you have to wait for your waiter/waitress.
