She was super friendly, checked in on us without being overbearing, and somehow managed to make us feel like regulars even though it was our first time. So glad Tim Ho Wan is back! There was a line already at 10:55 AM, but the line moves quickly and the first round of customers was basically seated by 11:05 AM. It's a big restaurant so there are plenty of tables for everyone. The brown sugar sponge cake is always one of my favorites, and so is the crispy shrimp red rice rolls. The highlight of Tim Ho Wan for me is the attentive service. Sam is always so kind and truly cares about customer service, which is rare and hard to find these days. We always appreciate him taking the time to say hi and come over to our table even during a busy lunch service. Because of him our experience always feels like we're taken care of, just like family! I feel bad giving 3 stars but I just felt like the place was way too overpriced for the portions we received. The food was okay, but again, small and unfortunately not flavorful for my liking. A couple tips - the pan fried noodles are not crispy. They're soft. And kinda not seasoned. The pork siomai was pretty good tho so that was redeeming! We came here as a group of four and needed to order A LOT, in order to get a bit full to feel satisfied and it just didn't do it for us. Every time we got our dishes, they lacked serving utensils, and it seemed a bit scattered. Our waiter was nice and patient, we got seated right away, and checking out was not an issue. Mainly because of the food and the price, I don't think I'll be making my way over again. BUT - that's just me. The place was packed so it's clearly very popular! Over the years, it felt like I would hear about Tim Ho Wan every time a family member or friend would come back from Hong Kong. Kind of heady praise in and of itself, given how there are so many great dim sum and Cantonese restaurants there, but even more so considering the standard some of them have. So, after missing out on my first chance to try them when we were in Hawaii, it was practically a must to stop into this location once we saw that they had finally reopened! Now, I don't know what this place looked like before their year-plus closure for their remodeling/change of ownership, but the decor looks great - "Chinese modern", as someone described it, and cozy. More notably, I appreciated how new and clean everything still felt. As for the menu, my gf mentioned it looked different than she remembered from her trip to the Tim Ho Wan in NY, but their most popular items, like their Crispy Shrimp Red Rice Roll and Baked BBQ Pork Buns, were still listed. Even beyond those two, though, which sounded awesome, there were a number of other dishes that caught my eye. -- PORK & SHRIMP DUMPLINGS (SIU MAI) Ehh...not bad, but nothing special either. The siu mai was decently sized, juicy, and had a nice balance of pork and shrimp flavors. That being said, for the money, nothing about this felt all that different or unique. -- CRISPY SHRIMP RED RICE ROLL WITH ROSELLE SAUCE Besides their signature Baked BBQ Pork Buns, I was most excited to try this and it didn't disappoint! The shrimp was crispy and meaty while the rice noodles had a tender bite. The roselle sauce added a bit of fruity sweetness, but these were great on their own. -- PORK & SHRIMP DUMPLINGS IN HOT & SPICY SAUCE SCALLION NOODLE Not too shabby, but definitely more solid than spectacular. The overall portion size was relatively generous and the dumplings were so plump and juicy. That being said, while the sauce had a nice kick, it made the noodles, which were a touch overcooked, feel really oily. -- STEAMED FISH FILLET WITH GINGER & SCALLION SOY SAUCE This is kind of a simple dish, but it was no less delicious. The coloring was a little pale (all of the soy ran off of it), but I loved that the fish was deboned and super moist and flakey. Delicious! -- FRIED TOFU WITH SEAWEED On the plus side, the tofu itself was good and I liked how crispy the batter was. However, I wish the seaweed was incorporated into the batter instead of just sprinkled on top, as some of the pieces tasted pretty plain. -- SIGNATURE BAKED BARBEQUE PORK BUN Easy to see why this is their signature dish - this was our favorite thing we had! The buns were soft while the topping was crusty (in a good way) and had a sweet, buttery flavor to it. As for the filling, it was really meaty and had just the right amount sauce to it. While the food was actually pretty decent, what really dragged down the experience for us was the service. Granted, we came here not long after they reopened, but we're talking months afterwards, not days, so it was weird how they had so many "new restaurant" issues. For example, they gave us plastic water cups and disposable chopsticks because they had run out of clean ones and they also told us to scan the QR code because they didn't have any physical menus even though we saw (and took) two that were sitting on a counter nearby. Plus, our order came out extremely staggered - a long delay before the first arrived, followed by a gap before the next two, then the last two, and then another delay before we got our highly anticipated pork buns. Given how I had heard so much about Tim Ho Wan before coming here, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't at least a little underwhelmed by our experience. Even though their famed Baked BBQ Pork Buns may have hit the mark (and then some), they weren't enough to offset how uneven the other parts of our meal went (not to mention how long it took). At some point, I'd actually like to come back, as there are other dishes on the menu that looked promising, but I certainly hope they have everything smoothed out from their relaunch by then. Overall, the wait time for a Saturday wasn't bad at all! We were a party of 2 and only waited about 15-20 minutes. Service was great, and the food came out pretty quickly. Definitely recommend the BBQ buns and crispy shrimp rolls -- both were so good! We also tried the shu mai and large sticky rice, and everything was delicious. If you're a big chicken fan, definitely try the ginger scallion chicken rice. It's similar to Hainan chicken rice, but has more of a comforting, home-style flavor. Super simple but really satisfying! Tim Ho Wan recently underwent some renovations, so we decided to give it a try. Truthfully I don't even recall how it was before, so we were going in with a clean slate. First off, the interior decor was very pleasant. They had some high quality photos of their dim sum on the walls which hey, I won't be mad at! A lot of waiters to attend to your needs as well. We got a variety of their dim sum offerings: the famous BBQ buns, chinese broccoli, spicy wontons, siu mai, steamed fish fillet, XLB, and the bean curd rolls. I'd say that's a good variety. Everything tasted great! One thing I appreciated was that you could really taste each individual ingredient in their dumplings - they didn't overmix their fillings. I can tell when I'm eating pork and when I'm eating shrimp in the siu mai. The ingredients felt high quality too. My main gripes are the costs... or rather how much you get for the price. They seem to enjoy grouping into threes: 3 siu mai, 3 XLB, 3 buns. Am I the only one that thinks this is an awkward number? Usually people attend restaurants with a partner, or a double date, or a group of 4-6 friends. We showed up about 10 minutes before opening and got seated with the first batch of customers. If you come later, expect a wait. Everything we ordered was good across the board, but the BBQ pork buns are still the undeniable standout and my forever favorite here. It's the reason they earned their Michelin star! Our vegetarian friends also really loved their vegetarian options (and clearly marked as "no meat" items on their menu): pan fried noodles, steamed veggie dumplings, steamed truffle mushrooms rice rolls, and fried spring rolls were all satisfying and nicely done. The avocado dumplings (with shrimp and pork) are a must-try (so unique and not something you see everywhere). I was pleasantly surprised to see the siu mai noticeably improved and is much bigger and juicier than I remember from before. The new renovation looks great--comfortable, modern, and clean. I came here with my friend on a Sunday morning. We arrived a few minutes before the restaurant opened, which is at 11 AM. There was plenty of parking at that time. After we were seated in a small booth, a server brought out a menu and asked us for our beverages. We requested Jasmine tea. My friend and I sat there for a while chatting while waiting for staff to come back to take our order. We looked around and started noticing that people had food on their tables already. I flagged down staff nearby and he pointed to the QR code at the end of the table. Whoops. We thought that was for the online menu. We were not aware that we needed to place our order ourselves on our phones. Well, that just delayed things at least 15 minutes. We decided on the shrimp dumplings (har gow), pork and shrimp dumplings (siu mai), which was our favorite, pork ribs in black bean sauce, fried bean curd skin with shrimp, pan fried radish cake, signature barbecue pork buns, signature barbecue pork rice with fried egg. Our meal ended with the sweet treasure bowl dessert which we shared. We enjoyed all of the dishes. My friend thought the radish cake was a little bitter. The food is everything I want and reminds me of an upscale version of the og locations when I went in Hong Kong. Pork congee with thousand years egg was good but too watery. Can use more protein. Didn't really see any pork and hardly any eggs as pictured on menu and only some crunchy fried topping (fried chinese donut?). Braised vegetables with shiitake and fungi mushrooms. This dish was brought out cold. Then when they took it back and brought out again, vegetables were all mushed up. Pork and shrimp dumplings were DELICIOUS! One of the best I ever had for the longest time from anywhere. Pork was not full of fat and shrimp was of large pieces of very tasty shrimp. So yummy! Went to try Tim Ho Wan. It's been a while since I've been, before the revamping when personally it smelled and seemed pretty old, so I had high hopes. Thankfully, it met expectations. We were served by Leo, very nice waiter who went above and beyond for us. Ordered a smattering of dim sum. Some classics such as turnip cake, har gow, and egg roll. What stood out to me was the charsiu pork buns. Instead of being the classic fluffy white bun, it had a more crunchy pineapple bun outer texture which really elevated the flavor of the pork. And it wasn't too heavy, would recommend getting if you're looking for something new and different. Otherwise the rest tasted good and was solid! I came around 430-5pm on a weekday and it was the deadest I've ever seen Diamond Jamboree (plenty of parking and no wait!!). Food was DELICIOUS; they have the BEST dumpling wrappers. The dumplings don't rip or break apart and it's consistent. The sponge cake and rice rolls are my favorite. I also love their tea options - like it's not just black or jasmine tea like most places. Right now, they're having a special: dim sum platter for $19. It includes like 9 items and a tea pot with your choice of tea. Staff was helpful and attentive. Tim Ho Wan is a famous Dim Sum chain that reopened in Diamond Jamboree, Irvine in December. Their original location in Hong Kong was awarded a Michelin Star long ago; however, they've since expanded with locations all over the world. The dim sum can be pricey, but it's pretty solid overall. Don't miss their char siu, which is a five-star item. I recently had really mediocre char siu for double the price at a trendy place in Fountain Valley; however, this char siu at Tim Ho Wan reminded me what it's supposed to taste like. Their signature BBQ pork has charred bits, a sweet glaze, a nice chew, and meaty flavor. Also don't miss the char siu in their signature "Baked BBQ pork buns". The bao are topped with a concha-like exterior. It's a perfect dish and it's a must order if you haven't had it. Since their reboot in December, I do think they've stepped up the quality of their food and drink. The drawback is that portion sizes are small and prices are on the higher end. Regarding the ambiance and service, I can't say that I've noticed much of a difference since the reboot. Food is ordered through your phone. Service could have been better as we had to catch their attention for water refills, and we had to specifically ask for utensils and condiments like soy sauce and chili oil. I've had the original THW in Hong Kong. I've also tried this location before they shut down. And now I've tried the reopened one. Obviously the original in HK is best. One of the best dimsum experiences in my life actually. The old one here was not good. The newly reopened one is a notch better but something is off. For starters, their menu is very limited. They only give 3 siu mais, instead of 4 so that feels like a ripoff immediately. Their food doesn't match the photos on their menu, I ordered a noodle soup, photo shows egg noodles but they served thick noodles instead. The pork bun, their staple, is still solid. At least they got that part right. I've tried their signature roast pork twice here. First time was amazing. Second time it tasted like leftovers that they reheated in the microwave. It was dried out and just a huge let down. Due to the lack of consistency, I don't think we will frequent here much. I've been back to Tim Ho Wan multiple times since they reopened, and every visit has been consistently delicious. The food has been fresh, flavorful, and just as good each time. My absolute favorite is the Red Shrimp Rolls. The crispy exterior paired with the juicy shrimp filling and their dipping sauce is an amazing combination. I find myself ordering them every visit. Tonight we also tried their new Crispy Garlic Wings, and they were fantastic! They were perfectly crispy, packed with garlic flavor, and surprisingly light. It was nice to enjoy fried chicken without feeling overly heavy afterward. And of course, the Baked BBQ Pork Buns are a must-order. I've been here a couple of times since this dim sum restaurant reopened and they've made improvements. The new interior is nicer and more of what you would expect from a fancy dim sum restaurant. It has an elegant, modern feel and is more spacious than I remember it being before. I've never had to wait long for a table but once you get inside, the servers can be inattentive sometimes. The food always comes out quickly though. Their signature dish, the Baked BBQ Pork Buns ($7.50) are a must for the unique bun but they sadly didn't have a lot of meat in them. The Crispy Shrimp Red Rice Rolls ($9.90) are my new favorite item. The combination of the soft noodle and crispy fried inside is so good. A little greasy but the sweet sauce balances it. You can't go wrong with the basics like Har Gow ($7.50) and Siu Mai ($7.50). The Rice Wrapped in Lotus Leaf ($9.90) is good but overpriced. Between the BBQ Pork and Truffle Mushroom Rice Rolls ($7.50), I liked the mushroom better. The Hong Kong Braised Beef Dry Noodles ($12.90) had tender pieces of beef but could've used more noodles. Tìm Ho Wan 2.0 is back and better! New decor, better food, an even better service. Our family dined here for our toddler's birthday and he was treated like a prince by our server, Bryan and staff. That definitely made us happy and enjoyed the food better. Dim sum all day is always a win in my book! Everything is goood but the stand out items have got to be the baked BBQ pork buns and bbq pork! The pork was so thick, juicy, and slightly sweet. The crispy shrimp rice rolls in plum sauce were also surprisingly delightful. The sauce balanced out the fried shrimp patty nicely. For dessert the mango sago was everyone's favorite. It reminds me of Hui Lau Shan in HK. Overall, I definitely enjoyed this newer version of THW. We will definitely be back! read more

My friends and I stopped by and randomly checked out the dimsum here, partly due to how nice the place looks. The food is the star of the show here. They have amazing crispy shrimp rolls from Hong Kong. I also loved the baked pork bun and imperial chicken. They have a crab roll with mango that's delightful and their desserts all hit. Great experience at Tim Ho Wan! The food was fresh, hot, and delicious, and everything came out quickly. David took great care of us and was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. We had a pleasant dining experience at Tim Ho Wan in Irvine. We only waited less than 10 minutes to be seated during lunch time on a Saturday. The menu is slightly different from how I remember it from the Philippines but overall the food quality and taste remains the same. The prices listed are all budget friendly. Also a big shout out to our server, Nam! She went above and beyond for us to experience exceptional customer service. Hope we get her still as our server in the future. read more
