I've been to Moon many times. Sadly, it seems the place is going downhill. It's been worse each of the last few times to the point I'll like not return for a while. This used to be a 4-star place that could make minor improvement and get 5-stars. Not anymore. Some dishes continue to please (I've always enjoyed the crispy fish and moon fried rice). Others are almost inedible. Last night, we tried the chicken larb salad and Crispy duck. The larb was the worst I've ever seen, completely dried out, bland, almost seemed like an afterthought, and looked like a scoop dropped on a single lettuce garnish (we sent that one back). The duck was over cooked, bland and extremely tough. Another thing I don't like is that somehow the sushi is always room temperature like it's been sitting out for a while. The worst part is the service. The service has always been mediocre but now it's atrocious. The staff says they are understaffed but I saw at least 7-8 people working the floor in a very small dining area. When we arrived to a half full dining room we stood at the front as two servers or hostesses walked by multiple times without even acknowledging we were there. A simple "hello, I'll be right with you" is all it takes but instead it was like we were just a he hinderance to whatever they were doing. I watched a server drop a dish on the way to a table and laugh about it for 10 mins...joking with her coworkers about it right around the corner (and in earshot of the table that was now short an entree). Accidents happen. But don't laugh about it when you just ruined a patrons dining experience - at least not sure in view of others. Clueless! We had to ask multiple times just to get water. Not a single time did anyone come by and ask how our meal was. When the bill came, they hadn't deleted the item we sent back after two bites. We've always put up with increasingly bad service because the food was good. Now, the food is more costly and lower quality and it's not enough to overshadow the terrible service. To go orders are always a much smaller portion so definitely avoid takeout. I hope ownership gets ahold of the place and improve because it really wouldn't take much to have the place back on one of my favorites list again but the place currently trends in the wrong direction. Sad to see another restaurant n this area head towards what will surely be closing the doors if they don't right the ship. I remember when the place was always packed. Now, on a Friday night at 6pm on a beau too sunny summer day, there was no wait and the place was half full. That tells you all you need to know. read more

We experienced great food and service during our visit to Moon. The hostess brought us Saki out on a tray with four Saki mugs while we waited for our table. The appetizers, Sushi and bowls were delicious. We highly reccommend Moon for Asian, Thai and Japanese entrees. read more

Coming from a family of lifelong vegetarians and Asian food lovers, this restaurant provided some of the best food and service we have ever had. We had the vegan sushi boat, yellow curry, and basil fried rice, all were delicious. Portion were perfect for lunch also. Our server was helpful and knowledgeable considering our dietary restrictions and made great recommendations. This place was a quaint quiet place. My only bad review is they had a 90 sanitation rating(which doesn't feel amazing, especially at a sushi restaurant. We also ordered an side order of rice, though the rice was great they had no white sauce to go with it. This should not stop you from going here though, the food was still delicious. read more

Food was yummy! The service was incredibly slow and we waited over 45 mins. before we got everything. Lovely menu but be patient.

Best Thai/Japanese food I have ever had. Fresh, subtle, perfectly seasoned. We had the vegan sushi platter, the basil thai fried rice and the yellow curry. We could not chose a favorite, they were that good. Service was spotless. We hope to return many times. read more

Well I would like to say that I really loved the sushi. Unfortunately we didn't even get to try it. With kids worn out we were going to just get takeout. Order would have been more than enough for them to make an exception but apparently they aren't doing takeout. So strange. Never encountered a restaurant that doesn't do takeout. Wife and I went in for lunch on a weekday and it wasn't too busy. I Had a tempura roll and Tom kha soup and she had a bento box. The sushi was great! The Tom kha was different than what I've had other places but maybe others may like it more than me. The Staff was very nice and seemed to be attentive to our needs. Inside was cool and cozy. We enjoyed everything at this location! I was traveling from out of town. In my home town, I order delivery Thai food too often, and this food put it to shame. The sushi roll was perfect! The gentleman making it took pride in his food, which showed. Our server, Adrian was attentive, friendly, and sincere. This location just gained some regulars. Would absolutely recommend to anyone considering this option for dinner. Best meal we have had in awhile!! read more

Great experience for our first time. Arrived right before dinner rush and had good service. Had apps and then Yellowtail Lovers roll and Moon roll (sans octopus) - rolls were fresh and abundant with fish. Really enjoyed the meal. Server made a great comment- how the sushi rollers give so much love to making the rolls! Could tell they were made with much care. Also saw a sashimi boat at another table and the pieces were huge. Will go back. Can't wait to try the Thai menu! read more

Our family of 8 went to dinner last night. We were seated at 6:pm, the majority of the order did not come in until 8pm.The entire order was staggered to the table. On top of that, the food was mediocre. We leave 2 minutes from the restaurant, 3 of the elder family members were so hungry, they could not wait and went home with no food, had to cook dinner around 8:00pm at home. The food is very poor, does not even come close to Cobo or Makotos.This is the worst experience we have ever had in Boone or Blowing Rock. I would not recommend this restaurant. Al read more

I have been 4 or 5 times now. The food has been really good every time and the service has been great. I think they had a few kinks to work out when they first opened but they have them all fixed now. I would deff recommend to fix friends and anyone seeking some good Thai and sushi. read more

Came in to eat with a party of 12. Half of us received our food and even finished eating while the other halfs food hadn't even started cooking yet. We sat there for an hour until we just decided to go elsewhere. read more

If you are pressed for time and want your food delivered at one time this place is not for you. While the staff was attentive and the food was okay and cheap it took us an hour and half to get all our food served and even then it wasn't delivered all at once. We walked in being a group of four. When we walked in the hostess was staring at her paper ignoring us until we all got in and I said we have four people. She just stares at us for a second and asked if we made a reservation. The place had multiple empty tables and I said no we didn't know you had to make a reservation. To that she replied in a snobby tone that because they are usually busy and especially because they are new that making reservations are appreciated. Then she said because they weren't so busy she would try to see if she can squeeze us in. Then another lady comes up and asks if it's just four and I say yes but I didn't know we needed to make a reservation. They then both stare at the piece of paper with tables on it for a minute and the second lady says that she could only put us outside. (There were literally so many empty tables inside!!!!) It has been raining all week here and she says that it probably won't rain anymore today. We didn't want to sit in wet chairs so we declined. Would never recommend to anyone. read more

I want to like this restaurant sooo much. First, let me say that the food is very, very good, probably the best sushi in the area. And the Thai dishes are excellent. But I have eaten here twice now, and I must say that the service is totally unacceptable. On our first visit the appetizers came quickly (and were delicious), but the entrees (two sushi and two Thai dishes) didn't come for an hour. OK, so the restaurant hadn't been open long, so give it a second chance. Repeat performance, only worse. Ordered our meals at 7:15. Appetizers arrived right away. At 8:25, asked about our entrees and were told it would be 10 minutes. The Thai dish came out shortly thereafter, the sushi dishes not for another 20 minutes and they were delivered to the wrong table. When I talked to the staff about the delays, there was no concern, was merely told they were trying to hire another sushi chef. Point is, if you want good sushi, this place will please you, but it may take an hour or more to get your order. Won't return until they work out the kinks. read more
