Had dinner delivered by Boone Take Out (great service) from here last night. Won't be ordering or dining in at Hokkaido again. I ordered the yakiniku and udon. While the udon was filled with goodies including shrimp, the broth's flavor was off putting and the noodles were gummy. One taste was all I could take. The yakiniku was flavorless. Thankfully I'd ordered a side of teriyaki sauce and I used it liberally to give it some flavor. The rice was not a rice I've had at any Japanese restaurant before, it was dry, crumbly and for some reason was a pale brown. I ordered a side of fried rice as well but it was the same brown rice with a few dried up peas and carrots added. Absolutely no flavor and terrible texture. Best item delivered? The teriyaki sauce, though I woke up parched thanks to sodium overload. read more

This place has pretty good food but the service is terrible. Our waiter, the only waiter working, rolled his eyes every time some one asked him a question. He was short with the other tables when they ask for refills or boxes. No one asked for anything out of the way or complained about there food. I suppose we were a nuisance. I was in Boone for an appointment. So I decided to pick up some food to go, I live almost an hour away!! I've always loved this restaurant,, but that's was not the case this time!! I ordered 3 dinner shrimp and mushroom meals and a extra side of shrimp. The shrimp was so over cooked it wasn't edible and I also didn't receive the extra side of shrimp I paid for. I understand mistakes happen but over cooked shrimp in all three orders is unacceptable. Since I live nearly an hour away it wasn't like I could just take it back . They offer the typical Japanese fair one would expect in the southeast: hibachi or teriyaki style chicken, steak, or shrimp. A couple of girl friends and I were in town for a girls weekend and were craving Japanese food. Even with 3.5 stars we figured how bad could take out Japanese food be? Wrong. We ordered from Boonedelivers.com.. as we all opened our boxes, we saw dry chicken, shrimp and rice. It appeared as if there was no sauce or love put into anything in the box. Thank goodness for the extra shrimp sauce (which was oddly bright orange) because otherwise we wouldn't be able to choke down the dry rice. Majority of the chicken and shrimp in all 4 meals went into the garbage because it was extremely overcooked and hard. The soup was fine, but a bit on the salty side. The salads were basically a box of ice burg lettuce with a few shavings of carrot in it.. one girlfriend commented that the ginger dressing tasted like a brown sugar dressing, because there was nothing ginger about it, just sweet. I definitely won't be dining in, ordering takeout or recommending this place to anyone. For the amount of money spent on this food I am extremely disappointed in the quality of this place. read more
