I loved the inclusion of locally made goods, like: the hand soap, chocolate truffles, and coffee they had available in the room. It was quiet and peaceful and a quick walk to Main Street. I loved learning about the history of the building and seeing old photos too. They also had a sound machine, which came in handy for us since I forgot the one my toddler sleeps with. You do have to make sure to memorize your key code or bring your phone everywhere (which most people do all the time). The lobby is key code access too and I almost got locked out once - whoops! We would be happy to stay here again and I'm sure we will be back someday!

It's also very close to a nice (not kidding!) Dollar General Market that is very handy for all those things I always forget to take on a trip. The Chandler is yet another reason to visit Madison. We are already looking forward to our next stay. Their practice of not having an employee who customers meet face-to-face and instead using text/email for entrance instructions is probably off-putting for some (it initially was for me), but their system works just fine. I encourage you to not be intimidated by it.

Have to tell you…read moremy expectations were very low as I figured "I'm in middle of Indiana, how good can this be?" Well, to start, the hotel itself is small yet historic and completely remodeled. Room is small yet upgraded and i really enjoyed the shower water pressure. The bar has incredibly affordable prices (compared to la) but equally as tasty. The restaurant, despite poor reviews from what seems like folks with either unrealistic expectations or simply a poor palette, is incredible. Got the onion soup + brat plate -- worth every penny. Was the place fairly empty when i got in? Sure. But so was the town. I'd go back here in a heart beat. If you read any reviews about this place, read mine. I'm as picky as they come and really enjoyed myself here. In addition, those complaining about the prices of the restaurant.... don't come to LA. You'll just complain all day. To the owners of the hotel + restaurant = great job. To preserve a place that's almost 200 years old, while upgrading certain aspects to maintain an up to date look, is really inspiring. Edit : listening to tables near me, everyone is enjoying food + drinking beer and having a positive experience. Not sure what the poor reviews below me were talking about. One thing to note about reviews on a small business: don't be so harsh. This isn't some large corporation that has customer service departments to feed your complaints. This is a local business that is directly affected by your reviews. Be considerate. 2nd edit: had the cheesecake. Better than your mother's.

Also a nice homemade breakfast was served on the morning we were leaving. Very nice. The king bed in St. Michael's Room was very comfortable and the private bath was acceptable. A few of the older light fixtures were dodgy. There are dining options just down Main street in Madison. We had a meal in town. Typically we stay for more than one night and the town seemed nice enough for a longer stay. JLD Lanier owner architect of this B&B and also the Lanier Mansion. Unfortunately we did not have time to stop by that historic site. The house has some history as a stop on the Underground RR according to the innkeeper. The girl at the desk was glued to her computer. After 5 minutes, she then asked "are you checking in?" C'mon. We then got our room and saw that the door was wide open. Thankfully it was clean, but still I was very uncomfortable about that. We went back to the front desk and she offered us two things, refund and leave or just stay in the room. Apparently the housekeeping crew was "in a rush". (We ended up staying). The room itself was just meh. Everything was fine, except for the shower that I found disgusting. Yellow gunk was all around it and the side table was crumbling. Ew. The breakfast at the place was really small and very basic. There was cold cereal and a few hot meals, along with some baked goods and packaged muffins. However the fruit was rotting and disgusting. But if you are in a hurry, it will do. It was fine for just the few days we were there and was really the only place around. If you got no where else, this is the place for you.

Such a cool hotel…read more.. I come to Madison for work at least once a year and always stay at this Marriott... Arguably one of the nicest Fairfield's you'll ever find. This place was an old cotton mill that they redesigned into a vintage yet elegant Fairfield (they probably could have/should have made it a JW, it's that nice). The staff is always friendly and accommodating and the location is perfect... Situated right on the river with great scenic views and a short 5 minute walk to all the excellent restaurants and watering holes on Main St that Madison has to offer. If coming through town for work or for leisure, this Fairfield Inn is the place to stay.
