What do you do on a cold winter day with no plans? Get in the car and start driving. We headed out and ended up in Batesville, IN ready for lunch so we stopped at The Sherman to sample delicious German food. The braut on a pretzel bun was outstanding with sauerkraut and horseradish mustard, and the potato cakes were scrumptious. Next time I'll ask for a side of sour cream as I think that would keep have been a better dip for them than ranch. A big surprise was the filet. It was tender, perfectly cooked Ann's seasoned to perfection. They also have amazing daily deals- on the day we were there it was $5 shrimp cocktail. If you are on 74 between indy and Cincinnati make sure you take a break at this local gem.

I stopped in here with a friend on the way back from Indianapolis. I suggested it as I have eaten here before, even though it was years ago. We were seated right away and ordered drinks (okay I had water) and ordered a meal. I ordered the meatloaf which I might say was some of the best I have had. The way the meal was presented I would have thought we were at a 5 star restaurant or somewhere trying to get a Michelin star. Prices are more than cheap fast food, but not as bad as a Michelin Star place. Even still I was pleasantly surprised. Then I ordered the Cheesecake. Let me say that I am not normally a cheesecake person as most places get it right off of the Cisco truck. I was told it was an old family recipe and I will say, that for once I would believe this was a family recipe or some form of miracle as this was the best cheesecake I have ever had. I would drive out of my way just to eat another piece of this. There is no topping other than the double cream that has been made wonderfully into this. Amazing is almost to soft for this. I would give it 5 stars just for the Cheesecake.

Delicious food. We had the Triple Starter with meatballs (with yummy mushrooms and creamy sauce), potato skins (with bacon jam), and fried provolone (duh). Honey had the German Meatloaf. It was amazingly tender and flavorful. The mashed potatoes were creamy, buttery goodness. I had the Chicken Marsala with German fried potatoes and lemony asparagus. All yum. Cool historic place. Good service. Highly recommend.

We planned a cycling team ride to St Leon and decided to make it a local adventure by staying at Sherman. Dinner and drinks were great addition to our Sherman visit. The staff and attention to details at this local gem were really asset to our stay. Example... our waiter helped me join VIP app to enable me to get my free pretzel... then later when we returned to bar, she left her dinner to take our drink orders. The front desk permitted us a late checkout... and the place is warm and charming. The food was so hot... we had to wait to eat. The pretzel was great and had an assortment of mustard and a white alpine inspired beer cheese. Creamy and rich. The Kraut Balls were tart crunchy and battered with shell. I went for Fish... did I mention it was hot, big halibut filet. It was hot. Chips fresh and crunchy. Red cabbage was added side, and very german style... my buddy had pork schnitzel and was very happy. His too was hot. In true German fashion they had a Weizhen beer from Germany that was light and effervescent.

We ate lunch here yesterday, great German decor, yummy food, friendly staff, and beautiful bathrooms! We are vegan and enjoyed a great salad, with beets, and some German potatoes. Thank for having us! Left my purse, because of the wedding could not go back. Trusted it in their care for the night. Picked it up safe and sounds. Thanks for caring so much!

The sign along Interstate 74 is the reason I knew about this place. It is a lodge and restaurant dating back to the 1850s. One thing I didn't like was William T. Sherman's photo just inside the front door. A union general burning the way through the south (Atlanta, etc.) does not endear one to Southerners. I digress. I am impressed with this restaurant, the service, the presentation/atmosphere of the restaurant. From the outside it has a taste of tudor style architecture. I had the Sauerbraten and Blue Cheese and dates salad. The sauerbrauten presentation and taste was like Germany (I lived in Germany/europe for years) and always must test the German fan-fair Stateside. The cost was surprisingly affordable. Batesville is a cute town and I liked walking around the downtown. I would suggest you stay the night here, I hope to if I am in this area again someday. But the greatest delight was the finish. I ordered the chocolate cake with the wineberry sauce. The chocolate was thick and heavy and the wineberry sauce took it to the top! I knew instantly upon first bite that it all balanced perfectly; the chef knows what he/she is doing! ja ja, sehr gut! GO HERE!

The atmosphere is a really cool older German hotel/restaurant. The food was pretty good but a little on the pricey side. I had the spinach bacon salad and the dressing was amazing. Both kids had the cheeseburger on a pretzel bun and both devoured it. Overall a pretty cool placE to stop on a road trip not too far for 74.

I'm a city girl, and I was wary of going to an unfamiliar and very rural area, but as soon as I stepped foot into the bed & breakfast, I felt immediately at home. The first night I got there, it was pouring rain and I couldn't see well. I parked in front of the house and Tari kindly told me I could leave the car there until the morning and she showed me around and made me feel immediately at ease. Tari and Scott actually live off of a little road towards the back of the house, but they are within walking distance of the house and always accessible by phone if you need anything. The house is absolutely stunning and comforting, and it has all the amenities you could possibly need. Tari and Scott take great care of the house. It was always in immaculate condition. The furniture and fixtures are beautiful, and there is a fully stocked kitchen (you can take any of the food for the day free of charge--granola bars, crackers, fruit, deli meats, cheese, baked banana bread, bagels, tea, coffee, juice, soda, bottled water, wine, and more!). I practically ate an entire banana bread loaf that Tari baked during my stay because it was so delicious, and of course Tari and Scott will serve you a yummy breakfast every morning upon request. I had some of the best night's sleep in the room I stayed in too. Each room has its own thermostat and there was a comfy down blanket that I slept with every night for the three nights I was there. My drive to Miami U. each morning was less than 5 minutes, and every time I left the conference, I was excited to go back to the house! Tari and Scott are very kind and personable. They truly care about their guests' comfort and happiness. I highly recommend staying here over a hotel. The rates are comparable, and you get so much more from staying here. If I ever find myself in Oxford again, I will for sure stay here again.

We went up to our room to check it out. It smelled moldy/musty/stale as well. My wife ran a diffuser which helped tremendously. The armoire and the dresser that holds the mini fridge were in pretty rough shape. The tub had chips and stains in it. The headboard of the bed is pleather/vinyl and it was peeling and flaking. There is no microwave in the room. We changed and headed to the pool. This was probably the highlight of the week. The pool area is nice and the staff at the pool bar were friendly and talkative. We quickly learned that beers at the pool bar were colder than any others at Belterra. We stopped by and hung out at the pool and pool bar three times during our stay. We sent to the Stadium sports Bar and Grill Wednesday evening with some friends. The food was OK. After our first night we realized the bed was hard as a rock and the pillows were awful and we would just have to get through our stay. The next morning, I went to Nosh to get some breakfast. I ordered two Bacon, Egg and Cheese English Muffins and took them up to the room. The little oven they use is apparently on a preset timer based on what you order. It overcooked both our sandwiches. The muffins were almost burned and egg was chewy. My wife did say the coffee I ordered her was the best in the hotel. The entire hotel felt like you were in a walk in freezer. It didn't matter if you were in the lobby, casino or the conference rooms. everyone in our group complained how cold the hotel was. The hotel needs a complete renovation. I don't think it has been upgraded since it was built. My wife and I agreed that we won't be back to Belterra.
