We are relatively new arrivals to North Scottsdale (and AZ as a whole) and have worked with the team at Moon Valley Nurseries on Tatum Blvd for the past year on several landscaping projects. We chose to work with Moon Valley mainly based on the fact that they had larger varieties of trees and shrubs in stock and we were looking for some very specific trees in larger sizes to create privacy around our property, as well as becoming more familiar with desert flora. There is no other nursery I've ever been to that carries such variety and sizes of plants and their stock always looks healthy and well tended to. I wanted to share my experience as it echoes what some other reviewers have opined and might refute what others have stated. We started our engagement with MVN working very closely with John Hanna who helped us select a mix of appropriate desert plants and unique varieties to complement the pre-existing plants we have on the property. John has a vast knowledge of plants and helped us select trees, cacti, perennials and larger shrubs to fill in spots on our property. He is also adaptable, so when we wanted to pivot to different ideas or species based on our preferences, he was able to accommodate that without hesitation. He is a super friendly guy and worked closely with us to try to offer the best pricing possible (we spent a fortune...I have had limited success negotiating pricing with other nurseries back home on the east coast, but have never spent even remotely close to what I spent out here). Pricing is important because that seems to be a recurrent theme with respect to Moon Valley that differentiates them from some other nurseries. However, I find that for a lot of material, their pricing is competitive, if not better (you cannot beat the pricing on their in stock lantana, for example). Yes, they sell very expensive plants, but we left very satisified with the overall package put together for us and for the very expensive trees we purchased, they were reasonably competitive with those nurseries whom I contacted for comparative pricing. Bottom line is that only an individual can decide if pricing is appropriate and of "value" and I will state that when I consider the entire package from start to finish, I am satisified with what I paid. Now, on to installation...For every single landscaping project I have ever done, no matter what the location, it has never turned out perfect and to my complete satisfaction. Plant material varies in its age, condition, adaptability to changing environments and availability. Newly planted plant material sometimes doesn't make it. The crews that came out to do the installation have been pleasant to work with, fairly methodical in choosing appropriate locations for and positioning of plants and even from several 1000 miles away, checked in throughout the process to make sure we were on the same page. Brett, in particular, went above and beyond in texting photos to me and using facetime to make certain plants were being placed exactly where desired. He rejected a delivery of smaller plants as he didn't feel they would be satisfactory to us. The installation crews met all expectations and took very good care of my property. Some items needed to be craned in or brought in with heavy machinery and they managed to be very respectful of the property. With any large or multistage lanscape project, it is the follow-up and customer service that is of paramount importance. I have been wholly and completely satisfied with the follow-up that we have received from the team at Moon Valley, from John and from Kyle Rohr and Brent Duarte. Again, we have had to swap out and replace a few plants here and there and this has been done without hesitation or pushback. We have had several plantings done while we were not on site and when I have requested modifications or change outs, I have been accommodated without fail. This is where, in my opinion, Moon Valley has stood out and it is because of this follow-through that I will remain a loyal and satisfied customer. They have remained in near constant communication with us throughout all phases and this has allowed me to beautify my property even while not on site. Overall, when all is said and done, I could not be more pleased with the final product, especially the ongoing customer service I have received. I have read many reviews highlighting disparities in pricing and for certain smaller items, it may be reasonable to shop around. But for a package deal, harder to find plant material or unique or larger items, this will remain my go to nursery. The continuity of service from sales, to installation, to back end customer service cannot be beat and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with the team helping to beautify my property. read more

I did ask Preston about another plant that's tropical something else beside the hibiscus, he knew exactly the perfect plant that I'd like that would fit well in my backyard. I have a 13 year old house plant that was recently infested with gnats/fruit flys. I tried home remedies from the internet and double sided sticky strips with no success. I sought help from Moon Valley Nursery since they were near where I lived. The recommendation was to replace the soil and follow up with certain products. As an older person with two black thumbs, I asked that they replace the soil for me, and that I would pay for the soil and labor. When I was checking out and told the total, it was apparent that I was not being charged for the replacement soil or the labor. Not only was the staff impressive with their knowledge, they were professional, polite, and extremely generous. I am a lifelong non nursery person, but I am now a Moon Valley customer for life as needs arise. read more

We spent thousands of dollars at this nursery a year ago to have our yard landscaped. This week, 3 of the trees that they planted are falling over. We had to literally prop them up with whatever we could find. When I called to ask for help, they wanted to charge me $59 a tree to correct the problem. Apparently they were supposed to be double staked, but they did not do that initially and are expecting me to pay for their error. They are professionals and should know better. They are very overpriced, which I was willing to accept if service was superior, but the way they handled this situation was very disappointing. I will never do business with them again. read more

Today I had Scott from Moon Valley Nursery plant two beautiful trees next to my house. A healthy and bushy Limequat Tree and a Majestic Ash. He arrived on time and brought with him an excellent crew of 7 workers. They all worked as a team and completed the planting of the trees in about 1 hour. I have purchased trees from Moon Valley before and they always do an excellent job with service and installation. The vegetation around my house flurishes because of Moon Dust and Moon Juice ! I would just like to say my visit to Moon Valley was nothing short of amazing, me, my lady and buddies worked with a gentleman named Brandon who was outstanding, he broke down how great Moon Valley is and (how it was the first ever location, which I thought was so unique) all of the unique features of Moon Valley that separates itself to any nursery in the U.S.  Even though my group and I each made it clear we aren't buying anything today because our house won't be ready for months, he still gave his 100% effort and showed us many options for what we can do for the front and back yard. I appreciated this very much and he almost convinced me to buy the trees/plants now and wait. Great experience with MVN. From the salesguy Matt to Scott and his crew. They even took down some mounds we had installed in the yard and made them smaller. They didn't have to do that, but they did. My experience started ordering 1 tree in-store at the 202/McKellips location. It was great to get advice on trees that would be best for my yard with a pool meaning no berry producers and less shedding of leaves requiring less clean up with my disabilities. Then I added on a 2nd tree over the phone which took less than 5 minutes. The ay of delivery William called to notify me they're 20 minutes away. When they arrived they accommodated my disabilities and did a spectacular job planting/staking my trees. I will definitely be ordering more trees and having William & crew do the planting. read more

We had Moon Valley out in November to trim two trees in our backyard that were overgrown. Both are 10 years old, one medium about 15 ft tall and the other large around 30-40 ft tall. They were touching the porch roof and the walls, and one was touching the house roof. We explained that the goal was to shape them, raise them up and reduce the circumference so they are not touching the house and porch or hanging too far into the neighbors' yards. Moon Valley was the most expensive company but the rep said that after they trimmed the trees we wouldn't need to do it again for 2 years, and he said a lot of things that sounded good so we went with them. There were communication issues, though. The rep said we were scheduled and we'd get a call with a time frame but when I didn't get the call I called the office and the scheduling lady said she didn't have us on the books. We eventually got all that squared away and on the day of service four guys came out to do the trimming and they were done less than 2 hours later. No ladders or major equipment were needed. They did stand on the wall for some of it but otherwise reached from the ground. They did hollow out a lot of the biggest tree (Arizona Ash) and raised the bottom up so we could walk under it so that one turned out ok, though I did go back in to trim some low hanging branches that were touching the wall again just a couple months later. The other tree (Purple Plum) they did shape so it didn't look like it wasn't leaning anymore, and they took off the lower branches to raise it up. However, in the process they accidentally sawed into the trunk leaving a large gash which is not only ugly but could impact the trees overall health. The next week two center branches dropped so far that they were almost touching the ground and had to be cut off. Additionally, while the shape looked nice, they did not decrease the circumference enough. They barely brought it away from the patio and roof (less than a foot) so after just a few months it's touching the patio and roof again and blocking the path around to the side of the house. Since I was told that the trimming would last two years and it needs to be trimmed again after only one year, I am very disappointed and frankly, mad that I paid $1,500. I was also told that someone would call after the service to check in and see how things went and I planned to address all of this with them but no one ever called. Attached are before and after pictures of both trees (before on left and after on right, two views of each). Overall, the shapes look nice but the trimming was not drastic enough to be long lasting and the main goals were not 100% met, in addition to the very high price and scheduling hassle. I will be looking at other companies when we decide to pay someone to come trim them again and I am not likely to recommend them to anyone I know for their tree trimming needs. read more

Setting up the appointment and everything was all done by phone and text to send pictures so they knew exactly what it was that they had to deal with when they got here. The crew that showed up was very kind they did exactly what they were supposed to do. I spent thousands of dollars on 5 trees. I had to have everyone replaced, thank God for their warranty. They have no idea about root systems and if a tree is suited for your yard. I had to take 2 of the trees out or they would have lifted my curbing and my patio. Take heed, they are twice the price of anywhere else and do a song and dance. They have gone through so many managers and (tree experts) that present to know what they are talking about. BS they just want your money. read more

We try to go to the Moon Valley Christmas tree lot every year in Mesa. We went again this year and found the most perfect tree! We love going to this lot because all of the employees are really nice (specifically, Jim and Joe) and helpful and the trees are healthy and there is a good selection. I really love walking around looking at all of the trees and taking in their fresh smell. We had a great experience this week with our tree removal crew from Moon Valley Nurseries. The three crew members for tree removal, led by Humberto, were courteous, efficient and skilled. They removed a large, thorny acacia tree from our front yard in a bit over an hour. It is the thorniest, messiest tree ever, but their cleanup was so good no one could tell they had been there. The next day, the stump grinding crew arrived, led by Robert Wright, and also did an excellent and thorough job. We were also impressed with the company checklist that the crews are required to complete (of which we got a copy), to make sure everything was done properly. Check out our photos. We had to have a giant Ficus replaced due to disease. The tree was covered under the extended warranty we purchased. Scott and his crew from 7st Moon valley were very friendly and professional. They were scheduled between 6am and 9am and they arrived at 7am with a 15min heads up call. They were respectful of my property and cleaned up well after the job was complete.
