Well I have to amend my review and put it back to 1 star. 1st Moon Valley did not bring out the bamboo tree's what they did was break up a bamboo tree, repot several pieces into a pot and brought them to my house. Guess what happens when you repot anything that many times in such a short period of time? It dies!! Ok, so they brought 3 out of 10 that were normal but, that's it. I'm trying to save what I can, lord knows this company has NO integrity. I was told, "I broke up a $5,000 tree for you". Heck if they called me and said, "we are out can you wait a week or a month" I would have been fine with it but again, they don't communicate and wind up giving the customer the short end of the stick. They also broke a paver, in 3 days it will be a month. I have made four phone calls to the general manager who is going "to take care of it right away" well....guess what, it is still broke and no replacement. Ryan and one of his team came over just last Saturday, took a picture, took a piece of the paver and said, "I will take care of this right away it should be no problem". Do you think I've heard from anyone since then? NOPE! So, my tree's are dying from shock (a MoonValley person looked at them and agreed) I cannot get one paver that they broke fixed and it seems like this is never ending. Lord grant me patience. Do NOT go there, it has been a month of total and complete hell listening to lie after lie and when they do tell the truth it is a half truth (i.e. the bamboo I have to provide an update to what appears to be the beginning of making an unfortunate situation right. I received a call from Brandon early this afternoon (Sunday), he was very pleasant and wanted to make things right. The owner stated that he would sell me the same bamboo at the size I had purchased for the $150.00. Brandon also came over to measure the area so I had the correct amount to be planted. And to make things even better, Brandon is allowing the extended warranty at no charge in the event something should happen (but I am hopeful they will be just fine). I believe that in life people have miscommunications, sometimes they are not resolved however, when a company stands up and says, "I want to make this right" and then they do, a person must stand up, take notice and say THANK YOU! I want to thank Moon Valley nursery for the extra effort and will be keeping them on speed dial to purchase my tree's and other shrubs from. April 16 I purchased 3 bamboo tree's, they are lovely and I received a 90 day call from Brandon Pierce @ Moon Valley nursery asking how the tree's were and letting me know if I was interested I could come in and purchase more for half the price I initially paid. I was very pleased and told him I would be in Saturday. Saturday at 2:30 I showed up, Brandon had left for the day but a young man said he would help, looked in the computer found no notes but he and the person I think was the manager said, "yes, we will honor that". I needed 7-8 more huge bamboo's and intended to buy them right then. There were only two and was told "we will bring more in from the other nurseries, no problem". I went to "ring it up" and the young man again asked if the half off my original price was ok, I told the manager what I initially paid and his price was significantly more than half off my initial purchase price. I have purchased so much from them and the fact that they would not honor "the deal" leaves me cold. I was offered "smaller bamboo's" and at that point it felt like a used car lot. I would stay away from this nursery, when a company looses it's integrity, calls and gives you an offer that they have no intention of honoring and then tries the "bait and switch", it's time to go to another nursery. Be aware, what they promise over the phone changes when you get there. Just received a response from Brandon, he states: "I never said a thing about "half price" what you originally paid. I said I have bamboo for half the price you originally paid, which are the smaller ones. I said I would honor the same price with free delivery and half price moon products for you. I've also reviewed the phone call (this is a recorded line for all phone calls to ensure my accuracy) and there was no mention of half price on the trees originally purchased, and I guarantee that. I've forwarded the call to my higher ups to avoid any further problems and they will address this accordingly." How odd that Brandon would mention "it is a recorded line and I am forwarding it to the high ups", that just makes it even sadder and sounds more and more like a used car lot. I would have expected a "how can I make this right" or, "I apologize for any misunderstanding". but I thanked him for following through with the lack of customer service, I expected better from Moon Valley Nurseries and certainly from Brandon who are supposed to be the "customer service rep". The focus on customer service was excellent. This attitude started with the Foreman, Wesley. He and his team, Andrew and Roy knew the plant material and care, in addition to trimming, large trees and plant removal. Wesley removed a large tree with the touch of a master. Always focusing on the safety of his Team and our property. In was like watching a puzzle being put together, one piece-one limb at a time. Wesley also explained how I was to manage the watering process for the trees and plants they had trimmed. He was very complimentary about the leadership of Moon and their concern for the employees. As a customer that was very nice to know. After the removal of large trees and plants removed, came the fertilization team lead by Brian. He is very experienced in both tree removal and injection of specialized fertilizers, as I was informed. Brian also provided added value customer service. He assured me my investment in the injection would bring a good return for the citrus trees and various plants. Assuming no acts of bad weather conditions. Next came the Stump grinding team lead by AJ. He and his team-sorry I cannot remember all Team member names- provided care and expert skills for the removal of the stumps. AJ made sure to tell me to call him, if I had any questions. Delivering value and service was his goal. The following day our experience was with Jared and his planting/installation team. Hosea, Ryan, Stephen and Joe. Again this teams focus was on planting the large tree correctly and timely. Questions or comments were taken and received very nicely. Coaching on watering was discussed for the next four days. Our experience first started with the design/ACNP Specialist, Julie Bemis. Very knowledgeable, excellent listener and has good follow through. Julie was a real joy to work with and we would recommend. An additional positive experience was with a manager at the Pinnacle Peak location, Brandon. A recent Veteran/USMC. He enjoyed his work and was thankful to be a part of the Moon Valley Nurseries. Our experience, with a variety of employees/Team members , had a lot of alignment in the company mission and values. Their flyers and website look lovely, very enticing. But, run!!! Don't believe the hype. Went to the 7th st. location. The 'customer service' area was swarming with 'sales people', yet the only reason one talked to us is because he was sitting in the front desk. We inquired about getting some plants and needing some advice. Very quickly it became clear that he had NO idea about anything and did NOT want to get up from his chair and walk into the nursery. Weird! We did get him to come into the nursery where he proceeded to try and bull**** us. It was very obvious that he had NO knowledge of anything and was just agreeing with everything we said or asked, and rounded it out with non-sensical made up comments. We finally asked if we could just have a quote for what we wanted even though there were none in stock. He nearly ran back to the sales area and plopped back down on his chair and proceeded to pretend that he knew how to operate the computer. Then he said to another totally inexperienced guy - 'Hey, I've got an awesome question for you.' LOL What!!!?? The other guy barely knew more about getting a quote out of their computer system. It was ridiculous. Etc... etc.. In the end, we left. It was a TOTAL waste of time and energy. AND neither guy EVER told us their name, asked ours, offered to follow up, Nothing! It was obvious they couldn't wait for us to leave so they could eat pizza with the other 'customer sales' people. We had also asked for a quote for tree removal. Another bull**** conversation that eventually led to them just giving us a business card and telling us to call their tree removal division. We took the card and left. Next day... I called the 'tree removal division'. Conversation with the girl on the phone was unprofessional and unhelpful. Finally, she said, 'I'll have someone call you later today'. So, the following day, someone called. He said he'd go by and leave a quote. The quote was literally 4x more than 2 other quotes we'd gotten! Bottom line - RUN, RUN! Don't call them, don't visit the nursery, just DON'T! Better options - Harper's for full service! (see my review), and Phoenix Desert Nursery which will sell plants but doesn't have removal and planting services. read more

As a real estate investor/builder I have had a lot of experience in dealing with many different landscaping companies and nurseries. If I only would have found this place sooner!! I can tell you what a huge difference it made going to THIS MOON VALLEY LOCATION . I can not say the same about the other locations. I initially called on the phone to see if they had what I needed. They were busy and I got the VM ...I did leave a message and guess what they DID return my call promptly. On the phone Chuck gave me his cell number and told me when I pulled in I could call him and he would come out and meet me . He did then personally escorted me all over the nursery showing me what they had to offer that would suite my needs. He was professional extremely knowledgeable...and very enjoyable!! A rare combination. He took his time and never pressured me to make a decision. At first I was worried about the pricing compared to a Home Depot or Loews. This location not only offered the unparalleled service ...the pricing was GREAT to boot! The plants were healthy and large! Monty the Manager joined us, on this very busy day, to answer my questions as well as Chuck. When does a Manager stop what they are doing and assist and assist his salesperson and myself? Needless to say I bought quite a few plants and in light of the service, selection and sheer ease of dealing with Chuck and Monty I will be starting another landscaping project next week. I would just like to add that I live in North Scottsdale and it was a 25 minute ride to this 7 ST location. But after that initial return call I thought to myself this nursery seems very "different" from all the others and may just be worth the trip. Believe me It was!! I dont know how many calls I made that morning including another Moon Valley location. I mention this only to inform the public each nursery is only as good as its staff and this location had it all. TREE REMOVAL, GREAT. NEW TREE PLANTING, TBD. We had this beautiful Chinese Tallow in the back yard that developed delusions of taking over the world. (Also, TreePros came in to trim it about five years ago, and pretty much turned it into a real ugly tree. My bad. But never use TreePros, imho.) So it had to go. We asked Moon Valley to remove it, and one week later that sucker was GONE in two hours flat, the ground level and everything beautiful. A week later, there they were to plant the new Bonita Ash tree we'd selected. Big tree. John and his crew had to do a fair amount of wrestling to get it through the tiny gate and over the fence (electric overheads in the way), but they were cheerful, knowledgeable and resourceful. Again, after about two hours there's this beautiful new tree in our back yard, and John instructs me on how to water and care for it until it feels at home. Basically, run water at specific intervals. How hard is that. Tree's already big enough to throw a decent amount of shade. How will it turn out? I don't know. Some reviews here are not kind to Moon Valley, but my experience is that most happy customers do not write, while most unhappy customers do. So far, I'm perfectly happy. At the 7th Ave nursery itself, my wife and I were helped by a sharp, smart, intelligent young guy named Austin. You should ask for him. He'll go out of his way to help you get the exact tree or other plant that you need. He -- and Ryan, whom he reported to -- even worked out a pretty great deal for us on the price. So, no complaints so far. And if the tree lives up to its promise (and I stick to the watering schedule), we'll have no complaints in the future. And whenever we need green stuff, we'll scoot back to Moon Valley. read more

me and my daughter went in to moon valley nursery the beginning of april 2017 , ray west was the person who helped us out we were looking for some trees and a yard water fountain ray spoke to us and got some ideas of what we needed the trees for ,we were looking for shade for our home he gave us some ideas and told us were they would work out the best in back yard ,he also showed us some funtains we liked we picked one and they were haveing a 50 % off sale on fountains we found one we liked and i asked if i could get it a little cheaper if i bout a tree package he asked his manager and he dicounted it another 50.00 dollars which was so awsome ,ray drove us around in a golf cart and he showed us tree,s he thought would work they were perfect and some realy nice bushes also ,ray actualy came to our home to deliver the fountain and to help me decide were to set the trees, when the trees and bushes were delivered they were planted perfect as well as bushes ray had allready exsplained and written how to water and care for trees and bushes he made it very simple . to sum it all up we had a great esperiance at moon valey tres look great as well as bushes, ray is awsome as well as shelodn who called me a few times to confirm everything was going as planed i am a repeat customer i purchased a yard pacakage 15 years ago at same location and all went well then also ,moon valley is the biggest nursery in town so why go anywhere else they have very good knowledgeable people that will help you solve your planting needs , i highly recomend them go see ray west . felix . read more

We had scheduled three pygmy palms to be planted on a specific day, but the commitment got lost in the shuffle. I called Moon on the day in question and we were told we were not on the list for planting that day. We were told it would probably be the next day. We were then advised that an emergency crew would come out to the house to plant. About 3:30 in the afternoon two young gentlemen (Sebastian and Michael) arrived in Michael's own pick-up truck (not the huge Moon flatbed truck usually used for such purpose) and proceeded to unload the heavy trees by hand and carry them to the back year. Sebastian's usual day schedule was 7 to 3:30 so he was working beyond his normal work schedule. We suggested in view of the late hour and heat, they come back the next day. Between them they felt it best to get the job done. In the unrelenting and blazing heat of the day, the two worked diligently to dig the hardened earth and to plant the palms properly; they further did the watering and fertilizing in the manner in which it is supposed to be done. One could say, they were supposed to do what they did. But the point is, these two young men worked very hard under stifling adverse conditions and did so without complaint in a very outstanding professional manner. Their work ethic, congenial manner and dedication to doing things right was very impressive and inured to our benefit. They gave us input on the care and maintenance of the palms and other items that Moon had planted that was very helpful to us. They left well after 7 p.m. If we have the option, we will always seek to have Sebastian and Michael do our Moon Valley Nursery work. read more

We had two grapefruit trees dying of "old age (about 50 years old) in our back yard. I removed these two trees, after cutting their trunks at ground level. We wanted to replace them with two young citrus trees. We purchased two at Moon Valley (MV) Nursery on 52nd street and McDowell. A major difficulty was that the old trees were growing in a 5 ft wide strip area where blue stake people had marked a main electrical line, COX lines, and telephone line(s). Discussions with MV sales and tree-planting people led to planting the new trees over the old trunks, which had to be "removed" by a MV "stump grinding" crew. This critical job was done by two exceptionally competent, experienced, and incredibly knowledgeable crew members by the names of Nestor Beltran and helper Juaquin. They are the direct object of my five-star review!! After carefully surveying the new tree planting sites, they consulted with me and my wife on their recommendations to slightly, but significantly modify their stump grinding depths and sites within our planting area where multiple cables, pipes, etc., already were buried. They accomplished the grinding in a timely manner without any damage to any buried lines! Thereafter, they carefully shoveled two appropriate-sized holes, finishing their job for later MV tree planting. This was a very gratifying experience personally dealing with Nestor and Juaquin while they conducted a skilled and professional job for us under somewhat trying conditions. I am writing this to thank Josh Tabe and his crew for making a bad situation much better. We had a dead tree that was to be removed with a stump grind and we had purchased a new Mexican Lime tree to be planted. The removal was suppose to happen before the tree was planted. On 8/30/16 a crew arrived at 6:15 am, we were still in bed as they were scheduled to arrive at 7:00, which was not a big deal. They were not the tree removal crew but had come to plant the new tree, which was planted next to the dead tree. The tree we ordered was to be thorn less, the one plant was not. I spoke to a Mark who was the organizer of this activity. I was upset and let him know that on the phone. I don't feel that the organization and communication with my wife and I; or the inter-company communication between the main office and crews was good. In fact I feel it was very poor. Enough of this, I am not a negative person or particularity demanding but I found our dealings unsatisfactory. Now for what I enjoy writing. Josh and his crew arrived the morning of 8/31/16. Josh and his crew were knowledgeable and corrected the wrongs. The dead tree was removed. The new tree was changed out for a thorn less tree. The planting was done with care with attention paid to small details. I was going to write a review of Moon Valley Nurseries that was going to be negative. Due to Josh and his crew I am writing a good review and offer many thanks to them. Professionalism goes a long way and these guys have it!! I am so far very satisfied with Moon Valley Nursery...(more at the end*). Ray West did an awesome job laying out our yard. His drawings were much less detailed than I had expected (sorry Ray), but his enthusiasm, and the detail with which he described his vision for our yard as we walked it, convinced us to follow his lead. Ray was very up front with pricing (i.e., the larger the plant, the higher the price). Based on the age of our neighborhood and existing trees and plants, he suggested an upgrade on a few of the items, and buyers remorse aside, we're extremely pleased with the results. Ryan Roberts supervised the planting, which I wasn't home for, but when I came home, you'd never have known they had been there, except for all the beautiful trees and plants that had been, planted, staked and watered. I've had plenty of things installed over the years, and the installers more often than not, left somewhat of a mess behind. This was noticeably not the case with these guys. It's been three plus weeks since planting and the vast majority of the 20+ plants and 3 trees look great. We expected some transplant shock, especially with the spike in temperature right after the planting (73 f to 108 f over a two and half week period), and a little more than 10% of the plants are showing some distress. I've texted photos of the plants I'm most concerned about and have revised their care according to the instructions I've received. *Final review will be given after 90 days, when we see how many plants have survived and/or have been replaced. read more

I love Moon Valley- it's really the only place I trust when it comes to anything my yard needs. I've never had a ton of luck with plants, and the trees I used to get at the box stores were small and took forever to produce any real growth. With MV trees and plants, I know they are 2-3x as old and established as the puny home improvement store items- that seem like a good value only because you are tricked by them putting a young tree in a bigger box or bucket. Compare their 24" box trees vs. Moon Valley's- you'd have to be crazy to buy the puny tree! No comparison. Plus, if I want, MV offers a warranty- like a life insurance policy for my investment- quality and peace of mind. To me, that's a better value. When you are here, ask for Cam- he might look fresh off the truck, but he knows his business and does great designs no matter how simple. Don't be fooled by his young appearance. Oh- and just got our Christmas tree from them- again- the BEST! I never worry about them being dry a couple weeks after I buy and they have the absolute best variety and size options. Again, hands down. Great, family owned, AZ business. Shop small folks- support local businesses. They also respond fairly and intently to any and all concerns I've ever had. Nice to know they back up their service. I know...some people are never satisfied and the world is always against them and they deserve something for nothing...I just expect good service, quality goods, and a backed promise. I have to say, I was not planning on buying trees when I first went to Moon Valley Nursery. The plan was to look with my husband, giving him hints for a Christmas gift. Ray West took the time to listen to what my plans were for my front yard and showed me they type of trees available. He even took the time to explain why certain trees were better choices than others. I ended up purchasing 3 Chilean Mesquites. Delivery and planting was completed by John Markel and his crew on the day scheduled. Those men work hard and fast to complete the job, I was amazed at the speed and team work among the guys. On Christmas day, I was showing my family my Christmas present when we noticed one of my trees had huge thorns on it. The three trees I picked out with Ray did not have thorns. I went to the nursery the next day and spoke with Ray and showed him pictures of the tree in question. WITHOUT ANY HESITATION, Ray double checked the sales area where we picked out the trees and the staging/loading area for my missing tree. When it was not located, he helped me find a replacement tree and had it installed within two days. What happened to my original tree will remain a mystery. But, the response to my situation is what made me provide a full five star rating, all customer service should look like the service I received. I am a happy and satisfied customer and will return to Moon Valley Nursery for other needs as they arise. Thank you Ray and John for all your help, guidance, and support. read more
