Dr. Nicole Vane is a wonderful, intelligent and beautiful person inside and out! I came in to her office after not seeing a dentist for several years and I felt completely taken care of from day one by all members of her team with and all my fears quickly addressed. I have been extremely satisfied with all treatments. Dr. Vane stands out because she truly listens and has an incredible passion for the health of her patients. I come from a holistic background and was thoroughly impressed with the cutting edge techniques used including ozone, PRF, photobiomodulation and biocompatible materials. It is clear that she is dedicated to educating herself and her patients and providing the best care she can with the most current research. I've had alot (ALOT) of experience with dentists and dental practices in San Diego; and I must say Dr Vane or Dr. V as I like to refer to her is simple "TOPS"!! From the first time that I walked into Moonlight Beach Dental , I knew this was going to be something completely different and was I right..! To be greeted with an Hello!! and a friendly smile is so nice. Her assistants and front office staff are really kind and helpful wanting to make my appointment as comfortable and pleasing as possible. Her dental assistants really go the extra mile. From the time I sit in the chair, A hugh screen on the wall showing amazing scenery or incredible surfing videos along with ambient music playing in the background throughout my visit, really takes the edge off of being at the dentist, if you know what I mean?! With every appointment I've had with Dr. V. she has been nothing but amazingly caring and informative about what is the best thing or approach to do for the dental work that was ahead of me. And one of the nicest and what I feel is really important... Dr. V listens to how I feel and what I would like to be done. Of course with my limited knowledge of dentistry... I find that her advice and recommendations are always the better way to go. So if you are looking for something completely different and Holistic then you've come to the right place. I wish I could say my experience with Dr. Vane was a good one, but my goal is to leave an honest review. As an extremely fearful dental patient, which was expressed to Dr. Vane at the start of our consultation, I expected to work with someone who had compassion and understanding, especially when her website and videos profess to be those things. Unfortunately that was not the case in any way, shape or form. Expect to have sedation therapy repeatedly and aggressively suggested. If you don't want it, expect to be interrogated over it, which will probably go something like this, "Why?!" "It's not like you will be drooling and can't say if you need to use the bathroom!" "You won't die!" I was there for several issues with my teeth, one being an extraction. I didn't know what PRF/bone regeneration was, and after it was briefly explained that my blood would be drawn and injected back into the extraction site, I expressed my phobia of blood tests. Dr Vane's response was "If you don't have it done this way, it will NOT turn out well. You're saying fuck that to everything that would help you." I was then berated even further, with Dr. Vane insistently stating "You need BrainPaint therapy to get over your fears." Yep, fully aware of my issues ma'am, hence why I alerted you of them from the start, but last I checked I came for dental work, not psychotherapy. I recognize Dr. Vane has a certain protocol she prefers to follow, which I can appreciate. With that said, it would have been helpful to know before I was tied into paying for a consultation that she would refer me out to an endodontist for a root canal if her sedation therapy bullying didn't work. There really are better ways to express protocol preferences other than belittling, criticizing, and insulting patients. If only Dr. Vane's chair side manner, compassion and integrity were as great as her ego. UPDATE AFTER Dr. Vane's reply: Thank you for your reply. I wish you would have said all this in our consultation, rather than berating me and swearing at me. I was searching for a more holistic approach for my dental needs, therefore neither fear nor dislike were the reasons for 2 endodontists in the past month; I was being referred to them by dentists, which is exactly what you did regarding my needed root canal. As I also told you, I don't live in the area, and was researching dentists to do the work. Perhaps you didn't hear that over your ego. I appreciate that you feel equipped to assess someone's phobias, but aggressively trying to push unnecessary/unwanted treatments isn't the solution. It seemed to me that the sedation was more for your benefit than the patient's. All the training and degrees in the world don't give you compassion or people skills, unfortunately. They do give you the opportunity to one-up every other dentist a patient has seen though. You definitely focused a lot of attention on downing others. The girl who went over pricing with me also shouldn't reprimand and embarrass another employee in front of patients either. There's a lot of disrespect and aggression going on at your establishment. Personally, there was nothing calming about the environment, and I don't see how anyone could establish any sort of trust with that type of negativity. This office has a lot to offer but the front desk experience is so horrendous that it warrants me taking my business elsewhere. On my initial visit, Kenzie, the receptionist was tasked with taking my payment and scheduling another service. She was completely deceptive about the fee for my next service, and also took over an hour to process my payment for the office visit. Today, I left with the realization that she had been dishonest about the fee for my procedure today and when I tried to address it with her she was extremely defensive. I just tried to call back to leave a message for the doctor and she hung up on me. Let me add that I was not outrageously angry or even very direct. I don't leave reviews as a rule. I would rather bring my concerns to an organization so that it doesn't hurt the business, but in this case I wasn't left with any option. It is unbelievable that you need to resort to yelp in order to voice something like this to a healthcare provider. read more

EDIT: I was given services that weren't covered by my insurance, but I could manage to afford it out of pocket as the quoted cost was only $400. Paid up front, all at once. A few weeks later, I received a bill in the mail saying I owe another $500 because insurance didn't cover it. To make matters more frustrating, the amount my insurance said I owed seemed to be less than what the dental office was charging me. The due date was exactly one week from my receipt of the bill, with a notice of an added fee for late payments. I am an entry level worker and don't have much money to cover extra expenses; I didn't have the money to pay right away. I was very upset and felt scammed at the time of writing my initial review. I'm updating it because I understand now that the lack of transparency in price was due partly to my insurance company. The discrepancy in what I owed according to the insurance company vs the dental office was due to an administrative error by the dental office. To make amends, the dental office reduced their bill by 50%, and offered me a payment plan to help ease the burden of an unexpected bill. Even though Moonlight Dental did good dental work and resolved my issue, I'm still going to cancel my insurance and I won't return to this, or any, dentist in the US. Before the pandemic, I was going to Mexico for dental work and paying out of pocket. The work was comparable to that of the US, and the pricing was affordable and transparent (for example, $80 flat cost per tooth for white fillings; no tentative prices, no hidden fees, no unexpected bills weeks later). It's so disappointing to pay monthly for insurance and still have to pay such large amounts out of pocket. I even chose the more expensive dental coverage option offered by my employer! I have wasted so much money trying to receive care in the US and have learned my lesson the hard way. :( read more

I went to moonlight earlier this year in January and March. I went for the purpose of removing my mercury fillings and ended up having a couple cavities too. Going to give a list of things that went well, and didn't go well. Things that went well: -The office is really nice, modern, and calming. It has a TV on the ceiling and the lights are dim , unlike many dental offices. -Cassie was so nice and cared a lot about the job she was doing. I won't be going back to Moonlight ( see below), but the one reason I would is because of Cassie. Things that went poorly: - Dr. Vane was pretty rushed during the consult and during the removal. Not so much with the actual work, but with speaking. I tried to be understanding the first time because I know she has to be busy, but when I got the actual mercury removal, she didn't even say hello when she came in the room and then just walked out right after she was finished. I had a couple questions afterwards, and I had to ask the dental assistant instead. - Maybe this one is on me, but when I saw the word "holistic" on the website multiple times, I was really expecting more. There was NO education or detoxing after and before mercury removal, no vitamin c and chlorophyll given, and no telling me to take anything after removal. - My teeth looked really good when I left, but I went to a different dentist after this one to get my other side of mercury fillings removed. He showed me the x rays he took and there were 2 small pieces of mercury still showing up in my teeth Dr. Vane worked on. I guess not enough to re-do, but that made me feel very disappointed. - I had a hard time opening my jaw for over a month. I guess it was just from it being open for so long ( I had multiple fillings she filled along with mercury removal). When I called the office to ask about it, they only offered me a "laser treatment" to "loosen it up". Oh, and it was $500 . I said no thank you. There were no other solutions offered- massage, jaw exercises, heat/cold. Just the $500 option. I literally couldn't eat a sandwich or taco for over a month, and that is just not okay . ( joking, but seriously 6 weeks is a long time). - My real beef though, and the main reason I will not be back, is the disorganization of staff ( financial and front desk). The communication is extremely poor. This was my experience with them: I paid my bill before my procedure. I was told that I would pay my entire bill, and then the insurance would reimburse me for my $1500 I was allowed. Fast forward to 3 weeks later, I get a letter from my insurance saying they sent the reimbursement to the dentist, not to me. So, basically the dentist got paid $1500 more than they should. I thought, must be a simple mistake ( the person I talked to before my appointment did seem new or maybe like she didn't really know that much yet). So, I called them. And I called them. I called them almost every other day for 3 weeks and kept either getting voicemail, or "I will tell Laney" or " she isn't in right now". It started feeling sketchy and no one would ever get back to me. Eventually, I called my insurance and explained what was going on. They tri-party called Moonlight and instantly got through to Laney ( something I hadn't been able to do for weeks). Laney said no one had ever told her I called, despite the front desk person telling me she left her multiple messages. So grateful for that insurance guy, because he is the only reason I got my money back. I told them multiple times how displeased I was with this situation, and they said " we will tell Dr. Vane that you have had a bad experience". Doubt they did. I never heard anything from her. Or maybe she didn't care. The insurance guy told me that they never reimburse patient, only dentist, so clearly someone didn't know what they were talking about or wanted to get double paid. Hopefully the former. Anyway, that's my experience. Based on it, I will never go back. I went to a holistic dentist afterward to get the rest of my fillings taken care of and it was an amazing experience. They educated me for 10-15 minutes and told me a list of gentle things to do to detox the mercury. And I had no pain afterward. Couldn't even tell anything was done. Best of luck to them. I wish no harm, and I am sure they do a lot of things well. I personally wouldn't recommend them to anyone though. read more

No more Chiclet teeth! Yay! And... I feel like I just had a facial, for Pete's sake -- after 3.5 hours in Dr Vane's dental chair this morn! (I've had my fair share of dentists!) Dr Vane seriously needs to change her biz name to **Moonlight Beach Dental SPA**. I can't believe she & her assistant Olivia took off 8 crowns/veneers EFFORTLESSLY in 5 minutes with a cool, high-tech laser and then affixed a gorgeous crown plus 8 *beautiful* temporaries in only 3-ish hours. PAIN-FREE! No "shell shock." No exhaustion. No residual tension. **No jaw or gum pain.** The numbness from the anaesthetic wore off at the perfect time. (Past dentists NEVER give me enough anaesthetic to last the entire procedure!) Now, I'm alert and ready for lunch! I sincerely don't think you'll find a more skilled, caring, intelligent dentist or staff. Dr Vane has crazy-high standards that put EVERY one of my past dentists to shame. During every appt (I've needed LOTS of re-work on 18 crowns/veneers resulting from a 2008 accident), she regularly asks, "How are you doing?" I've never had a dentist do that. She has the most state-of-the-art equipment to make her patients' experience as gentle and spa-like as possible! And I've never gotten so many compliments on my smile since Dr Vane's done her dental magic. This morn, as at every past appt, Dr Vane PERFECTLY numbed me with a high-quality anaesthetic that will clear my system FAST. (She uses the GOOD stuff that doesn't leave me sluggish or toxic! Super important for me because my brain is vulnerable from my 2008 brain injury. My brain gets foggy & sluggish with some anesthetics/meds. She's sensitive to my health history, so at my previous appt, she even gave me some different anesthetic samples so I could take them to my doctor to test which one would be best for my system.) During the hours in the chair, dental assistant Olivia applied a yummy, smooth chapstick as needed so I didn't develop Sahara desert lips. And I didn't have those annoying pools of saliva build up in my mouth during the work -- Olivia was right there to suction when needed! She did a whole lot more, like being gentle ALWAYS when putting a tray in my mouth or when taking x-rays. At other dental offices, x-rays are always so painful with those big whatevers they stick in your mouth!) I don't feel like just a number here. I don't feel like I'm on an assembly line. I feel like Dr Vane genuinely cares about doing the highest-quality job possible. At my first appt, I had told her I was very unhappy with my "black triangles" that had developed as a result of my initial post-accident dental work. One past dentist suggested I simply avoid drinking coffee or tea. -_- Dr Vane adeptly designed my new teeth so I'll NEVER have that ugly black triangle look between my crowns & gums. Oh, and ,,, for the FIRST time in a decade, my gums are actually a healthy pink. She's a miracle-maker! My past dentists did work that, for some reason, left my gums looking unhealthy--a whitish pale pink. Ew! Dr Vane is energetic, smart, sensitive to her patients' needs, and overall is top-notch with a superb staff. I travel 330 miles to see her, and I always leave amazed at her work. As for my husband... I've NEVER seen him smile after a dentist appt. But he smiles big after every appt w/ Dr Vane. Last but not least... The office manager Lani is a front desk phenom. She's Dr Vane's 2nd brain. You're in very competent hands with this terrific team! Lani's super personable, capable, thorough, and she doesn't miss any details. Worst service I have experienced by a supposedly professional business in 50 years. Had appointment for cleaning today which was rescheduled from prior month because when I arrived for appointment front office told me my appointment was a 1/2 hour ago although I had the current time in my schedule. Received text message yesterday at 10:23 AM requesting I confirm appointment by 12:00PM that day or my appointment would be canceled. Never opened text but called to confirm appointment 1/2 hour before scheduled time. (voicemail) Arrived for appointment to find 5 ladies in front office talking and sharing box of candy. I started seeing Dr. Vane a few years ago when I was living in San Diego. Despite moving to NYC, I still use Dr. Vane as my dentist twice a year when visiting family there. She is my favorite dentist ever! Dr. Vane prides herself on creating a serene office environment. Her new office location, MBD, is amazing. Her office is clean, modern, and comfortable, and with the sweetest team ever. The office also has the most modern dental technology. The hygienists are meticulous and take their time cleaning my teeth. They even make we want to start flossing more, which I never thought possible. In addition to being great at their job, they are incredibly kind and personable. MBD is in a beautiful location, and for my last appt I rode my beach cruise to their front door. I have always wanted to make one of my small teeth a bit bigger, yet was scared that the color and shape would look unnatural. Dr. Vane made me feel confident that she could do so in a very natural looking way. She added bonding to two of my teeth and all I can say is why didn't I do this sooner!?!?! It was pain free. I went to Moonlight Beach Dental after a not so pleasant experience at another dental office of which I mentioned on my first visit. For those of us who have that slight fear of dentists I thought I would never have that feeling again. I am horrified that I am truly back to square one. The first visit was fine but has gone severely down hill from there. I love one of the hygienists, she is terrific-Natalie. She is the only reason I have gone back multiple times for cleanings. But I am extremely disappointed in the Dentist herself, Dr. Vane. She is rude and does not even acknowledge that you are a patient, let alone sitting in front of her in the room as she talks over you. I have walked out of my appointment too many times now feeling disrespected. This past time, the entire office witnessed how upset I was. I asked multiple times for a call back...never a follow up or a response by Dr. Vane. There is clearly a complete lack of caring with absolutely no afterthought once the money has been collected. I will never be disrespected like that again! I was made aware I am not the only one who has had this type of experience and after realizing the extreme turnover rate in office staff...now I see why! Before making my first visit I read a lot of positive reviews, and after my experiences so far the office lives up to all the good comments. I've gotten some cleanings and even a root canal here. Update: Dr Vane reached out me personally to apologize for issues with a office staff member who is no longer working there. She resolved this situation very generously. The office staff is all new minus my favorite hygienist Shannon! The energy is great she offers great holistic healing options to teeth. I got a mouth guard and will def continue to come back here for holistic dentistry! Very disappointed in my experience here. I have been a patient for 4 years. I have health issues which they are very aware of. They sold me a mouth guard for 450 dollars. Where I told them at the fitting it wasn't comfortable and hurt badly. They said that is normal and it will go away. I then called in and told them two weeks later it was still hurting, they said it's still normal but I can come in and they can see if it's in correctly. I came in the hygenist was very rude, gave me a attitude like I was making things up. They ended up telling me the pain is cause of my health issues. Which is untrue. I left once again very unhappy and with no solution. I called a third time now the mouth guard broke at this point so it obviously didn't fit in my mouth right. I asked if they can make me a new one since I just got this and have had issues since the beg. They said they would call me back. I called again they said they would call me back. I had a horrible experience at Moonlight Beach Dental. Dr. Vane did unnecessary dental work on my teeth which ended up causing injury. I was in severe pain from her poor dental work and negligence for many months and ultimately had to get a root canal on a tooth that was fine prior to her dental work. When I came into her office in severe pain after the work she had done, she was very defensive and blaming me. It was odd and right then I knew something was off. She lacks empathy and doesn't listen. She caused trauma to my mouth and my spirit. I would never go back to the office and certainly wouldn't recommend Dr. Vane to anyone. Dr. Nicole Vane is extremely friendly, professional and efficient. I went to her for my amalgam removal, and it felt like a spa day. Her office is beautifully decorated and her sweet support puppy was calmly sitting in her waiting area graciously accepting pets from patients. We had a great conversation about our kids, she's also a mama. So when I expressed my concerns as a a breastfeeding mom, she helped explain the procedure, the safety precautions and suggested supplements to help me afterward. During the procedure, I got to watch pirates of the Caribbean on a tv screen in the ceiling with headphones on. I got so wrapped up in the movie, before I knew it my ugly metal fillings were gone and it was time to go! The whole team did an amazing job at explaining to me what all the technical terms meant and assured me that all was well. Unfortunately I've had multiple bad experiences here Originally contacted them when I moved to Encinitas (based off the amazing reviews.) I went trough them to get an implant (made and installed) into my mouth after I had already had an oral surgeon installed a screw. My second appointments, they rescheduled 5- yes 5!- times. The final rescheduling was less than an hour before the appointment. They gave me a $5 Starbucks card to apologize, but it was crazy. Then, my 4G implant fell out twice, and they never followed up the second time to schedule an appt. I also had cavities filled there and had to go back in afterwards because hewing food was so much worse after they filled them. So I went back in and they "fixed" them, now even more painful after they "fixed" them twice! Ouch! So weird! The ambiance is awesome and the location is lovely- but I have never had so many bad experiences from operations to actual dentistry- as I have here. The front office was very professional and courteous; Tiffany, Kinsey and Lani know exactly how to take care of a new patient. I was checked in on an IPAD, which was very cool. My hygienist Shannon was very gentle and I was so thankful for her flexibly to accommodate me and my crazy schedule. I don't think I've ever raved about a dentist until now! PLACE: Am I at the dentist or in a tranquil salon? Honestly, you walk in, everyone is so nice, there is calming music, a candle burning, and cozy chairs. PEOPLE: Everyone who works there is amazing. Save yourself stress and do not go to this office. I finally discontinued being a patient here and I feel so much better. There was poor communication between staff members and I was scheduled wrong several times and they would call me the day before and try and reschedule. The one time I tried to reschedule, they wanted to charge me 100 dollars! Also the treatments took way longer than needed. I would be in a room with an assistant for 30 min at least before the dentist would come in for something simple like taking an impression for a retainer. I appreciate that they are trying to offer integrative dentistry but the disorganization, poor communication, and not respecting the patient's time causes stress that negates the holistic experience. - This is an update to this review: Dr. Vane did call me which I appreciate and tried to understand how the scheduling and error were happening. Best Dentist office ever. The staff and Dr Vain are super fun and very courteous and the place is outfitted with the coolest technology. DR vain checked in on my well being throughout my cleaning. She had a great selection of movies to watch on the flat screen tv. She dimmed the lights and I watched BlindSide while listening through head phones. I was very happy that she gave me a play-by-play of everything she was doing so I felt comfortable. One of the coolest things I've ever seen at a dentist is the mini camera that takes really bright HD photos of each of my teeth. Seeing them up on the big screen was very helpful so I knew what she was talking about during my treatment plan explanation. This is the most adorable dentist office. I felt like I walked into a boutique not a dentist office. I was greeted by the front office staff Jenna and Tessa :) They are so sweet! They gave me a sparkling water and we're really on the ball. I'm not even that worried that I'm at the dentist office because I feel right at home. Took the day off to get my teeth cleaned and do far it's been well worth it! I think I just found my new dentist ! read more

All I can say is Dr. Vane is amazing! My uncle is a dentist in NY (where I spent the first 33 years of my life). For the first 7 years living in SD, I would travel to NY and book my trips around his schedule for cleanings and dealing with issues. Well, one day I came back with a new crown that my uncle had just put into my mouth and it needed an adjustment. Having a lack of trust of dentists (for some crazy reason), I actually considered getting back on a plane to NY to get it fixed. I decided to call around a few dentists to see who could get me in last minute for this minor adjustment and not charge me an arm and a leg. After calling several offices, I came upon Dr. Vane's office... they said come right in... and the price for this adjustment was actually the same price I charge for adjustments (yes, I'm a chiropractor). Obviously I thought that was a fair fee and the staff was very friendly... so... within an hour, my uncle was fired! That was 2 years ago and she has done a bunch of work for me and my wife. Her prices are extremely fair (no upselling for things you don't need), she's almost always running on time and extremely competent at what she does. She has a strong holistic approach which I like a lot and feel very comfortable referring my patients to her as well. If you're looking for a dentist in San Diego... stop looking and call... you won't be sorry! Thank you Dr. Vane for the great care... oh and her staff is amazing too! read more

This place is a joke. I had my routine cleaning scheduled back in March, and then rescheduled again twice, once bc of Covid and the 2nd time because the Dr Vain was going on vacation over the 4th of July and didn't feel like keeping any of the appointments she made. I finally make it to my appointment to learn they don't take Anthem Blue Cross insurance. (Insurance info they had prior to me scheduling an appointment) They had 3 opportunities to tell me they don't take Anthem before my 3 rescheduled appointments. But no, I was informed after I filled out all their new paperwork on a dirty IPad from a receptionist who wasn't even wearing her mask correctly. But don't worry, she then tried to sell me their in-house insurance plan. After going there for over 4 years I guess it's time to find a new dentist. read more

Dr. Vane is the best dentist I've ever had. She does not give up until my teeth are perfectly happy and healthy. I love how she constantly goes to seminars and is always on the cutting edge of scientific advancements. But even more importantly than all that, she really cares about her patients. Now for the clincher, she is truly a holistic dentist who understands how to do great dentistry without unnecessary use of nasty chemicals. Great experience with Dr. Vane and her staff. They are very personable and professional and seem to be using very up-to-date equipment and technology. The setting is very comfortable and although the appointment took longer than I expected (because they are so thorough), time went by relatively quick. I wasn't sure what to think when I first walked in and saw only 2 chairs in the waiting room. This review is for Nikki, my dental hygienist that did such a super star job cleaning my mouth full of teeth today! I hadn't had a cleaning in so long, I can't remember the last time! I had exams with a handful of dentists and ended up running away because I felt like I was being fear sold and pressured into their work. I certainly know that having all my wisdom teeth and not having a cleaning for many years puts me in a position to be upsold. Feeling this way, made me lack trust or support for the way those dentists run their business and I didn't want to feel like a cow, being over treated, the same cookie cutter treatment as the rest of the herd. The staff at Moonlight Beach Dental are so intuitive and sensitive, professional, sweet and they work to inform you about what decisions you can make to better your dental health. I am a massage therapist that manages my health free of antibiotics or other medications, and promotes self healing and natural health as much as possible, when it's possible. The technology is impressive that they use here, they offer great products such as this mineral paste I can use every night to strengthen the decay areas. Never seen that before but it makes sense! I had to separate my cleaning to 2 sessions. I could tell that Nikki knew exactly what to do kind of like when I massage and even though there was a lot of sensitivity, she used some numbing gel to help me get past those areas. I don't recall any other dentist using that on me before! After the first visit, I continued caring for my teeth at home and by the second visit, she could have taken a jack hammer to my gums and teeth! It didn't hurt at all, that is how much my gums had healed from the visit just 3 days before! The last dentist I visited refused to clean my teeth unless it was a deep clean so I walked out! Sure that guy took my insurance, but I would pay a premium to know that my dentist wasn't exposing me to excessive treatments and medications and helping me manage my own dental health. And I can't wait to go back for my cleaning in six months! I go back for quadrant series of filings! Yay! I can actually say I look forward to it! Although I haven't sat in the chair with my Dr. Godes yet, she manages health in a way that aligns with mine and I know she is going to great.
