Omg! How does the seafood from here taste better than , actual seafood based restaurants ?!! It was freshly made and hot . The Potato salad almost taste like mines so it's great lol . My cousin and Aunt said they were getting $1 shrimp and that the place they go to, have good shrimp. I said ok. I'l try. Parking: lot Atmosphere: it's a bar with an area off to.the side if you want to dine in. The music is a little loud so I couldn't hear the server. Note: you cannot order shrimp over phone and they cook them. You have to come to the restaurant and place your order. Service: the woman who assisted us must not like her job because she didn't greet us or smile. I said thanks, have a good night and she just turned and walked away. Food: shrimp had no taste. I said no taste. They butterfly them. The greens had a pretty good flavor. The candied yams were good. A little loose the sauce but good. If you don't like sweets these won't be for you. I had to come home and season my shrimp and they still weren't good. The shrimp need to be marinated to allow the seasoning to set in. The cocktail sauce was watery. My husband and I are rather picky when it comes to eating Jamaican food (understandably since he is Jamaican). I was absolutely pleased with our food. We had the oxtail and jerk pork. Finding good jerk is hard but this place nailed it. The oxtail was flavorful and tender. The jerk pork was so delicious, tender, and authentic. This is a bar/restaurant that offers authentic jamaican cuisine. The food is pretty good--hearty portions and flavorful. I ordered the medium jerk chicken with rice and beans and cabbage for my sides. My mom ordered a medium stewed chicken with the same sides; and since she couldn't decide between getting chicken or fish, she ordered a side of fish which tasted good also. The grand total was $25. Because of the large portions, I'll have leftovers for dinner!! As far as the environment, it very much resembles a jamaican restaurant with the dimmed lighting, decor, and reggae music playing with a good mix of r&b and oldies. The staff is friendly and seem to share a family-like closeness. Every year around Thanksgiving, they host a customer appreciation night where you can dine in and and enjoy dinner for free. I really think this is a nice gesture and makes me feel good patronising them. It may seem a little sketchy from the outside, but it is nice and safe on the inside! I'm always on the hunt for good, authentic, Caribbean food. Keyword: Good. With Moonlight Cuisine, I managed to find GREAT food. I've returned 4 times in the last month and i'm unsure if they've been alternating chefs or not, but the food has gotten better each time. A gluten for a Jamaican breakfast, I've always gravitated toward either their Callaloo or Ackee and Salt Fish. I can't say enough good things about the food here. I've never sat and enjoyed a meal, always ordered for pick up. So I can't speak on the overall dining experience but I recommended trying them out. read more

The cover to get in was ten dollars which confused me a bit. I hate paying to get in bars or places of that sort. When you get in its Dark inside borderline pitch black. So if you're looking to see anything good luck. The only light was coming from the bathroom area. The drinks are strong. Just a shot w a splash of juice/soda. The food is about $15 for a platter with not much food. I didn't taste it I seen everyone else's. Music is only reggae. So if that's what your into this is perfect. I'm going to be the first to write a review for a place where most patrons PROBABLY don't even know about yelp. Random, unassuming place across the street from a national cemetery on Limekiln Pike and Haines street in West Oak Lane. I've been going for several years now. The owner, John, is Jamaican. It's a sketchy dive for locals who sometimes come in for a 40. It has a bar in the front and a small sit down area in the back. I don't come to be entertained or for the ambiance. I make it my business to travel from South Philly to this hole in the wall for the food! THE FOOD IS AWESOME and makes up for the sketchiness! They have most of the Jamaican staple entrees including curry chicken, curry goat, brown stew chicken, oxtail, real jerk chicken (grill is right outside, hot and smoking in the middle of the day) ice and peas, etc. I usually wind up getting the same thing EVERY time- escovitched fish (red snapper), rice and peas covered in curry goat gravy, and cabbage. LOVE! My fiancee usually gets the oxtails, white rice, collard greens, and sweet potatoes on the side....i usually wind up eating off his plate. the prices are decent (12 for a large platter, 6 for a small) and even the American food (i've had fried wing dings and fried shrimp) is tasty service sucks. most of the male servers are a bit slow...if you're cute they'll try to holla. the ladies are sweet enough. again, you're not going there to be treated like royalty...this ain't butch and singer....it's moonlight. but it's so freaking good. if you're looking for some good homecooked jamaican, moonlight is definitely the place to be in Philadelphia. read more

This is a neighborhood bar/restaurant that's a staple on Limekiln Pike. I've been here many, many times before. It's not ideal for dinner. I rarely see people getting table service and after a certain time they will tell you that you aren't allowed to sit at the tables. I always get takeout from the bar and eat there or take it home. The food is fantastic. Love the curry goat, fried whiting, chicken soup....everything I've tried, really. Drinks are reasonably priced and there is a nice variety and the bartenders are always friendly. There is a cover charge some nights (I think Friday & Saturday night). Karaoke is Sunday nights. There's also event space available on the upper floors. I hosted a baby shower here not long ago. The space was very affordable but simple. The owner is a good guy. The place looks like any other cozy restaurant like an Applebee's or chilis or something; a full U shaped bar and some tables and another stand to eat at. It was late about 10pm on a Wednesday night so it was pretty quiet just some jams playing in the background. The owner came over to say hi and made some recommendations; he recommended the fried shrimp dinner so I got that with mac n cheese and rice and peas. Also - yams ! Duh. The shrimp was probably the best fried shrimp I have ever had. Ever. Home cooked or restaurant cheap or fancy. It was really amazing and way worth the $17 for the dinner. The yams were fantastic and the rice and peas were great but the mac n cheese didn't quite hit the spot. I was super please would have paid $25 without blinking an eye. The karaoke started up and I woulda joined in but I was just too tired. Thanks to the guys who run it for being so pleasant and making a good imprint on my first week back in Philly. Today I had the grilled salmon, mac&cheese, rice and peas. I ordered white rice but they gave me rice and peas.There was no gravy on the rice. The salmon was fresh but had very little taste of seasoning. Also the salmon was a little over cooked. It was not juicy at all!!The Mac and cheese was cheesy but needed to stay in the oven a little while longer. I will start off by saying that it does get extremely crowded. It supposedly stays open till 4, but the crowd determines that, lol. They cook until late, Caribbean food & all the above. I've been there 3 times and it's a very basic bar. Most recently went on a fri night around 12 and they were playing regular hip hop. Reggae didn't play til about an hour later. The music was too loud for the small restaurant and my ears kept popping. The DJ also repeated songs. The food is good but not amazing if you're used to Jamaican food. The jerk chicken i had last night was too dry for my tasting. The oxtail and plantains are very good. I love their food but sometimes depending on who the chef is for the night, their mac n cheese, cabbage and greens will taste differently and not for the better. I'll find out the name of the chef when it's the way I expect it to be then make sure I ask who's cooking before I order certain sides. When the sides are good, they're really good.
