The manager at this establishment has absolutely no customer service skills. Someone that we were with had TWO beers and they cut her off after she came back from ordering a burger. Apparently she "stumbled" and the manager came over and told her that she could not have another beer. She then said that our friend could eat her food and brought her a water. We agreed and ate our food then continue to chat. Around 11, the bouncer came and told us we had to leave and that he was just following orders. I asked why there was a problem since she was no longer drinking and she hadn't been doing anything. He said again that he was just "following orders." He also claimed that our friend had screamed, "I'm wasted!" This was not true, in fact she wasn't really talking, just listening! I decided to go talk to the manager to tell her I did not appreciate being treated the way we had been treated. She said she had informed us that once she finished her food, she had to go, which was not the case. I then told her several times that she did not say we had to leave. I had to point to my water bottle and inform her that I had not been drinking and I had heard pretty clearly what she said. I then informed her that I would not be returning to her establishment. I definitely will not return to Moontower and plan to call the owners once it opens the following morning. If I could give this place no stars, I would. read more

You will be carded as soon as you drive up, so have your I.D. ready. Parking is easy if you get in early enough. Otherwise you might have to....walk, gasp! No problems there. This place has a little something for anyone looking for a laid back experience. It does tend to lean towards the country side...but not scary bigoted country. Pool, T.V., drinks, live music, yard games, volleyball, somewhere to take your dog, and greasy bar food. The mix of people is great, people from all walks of life. I'm always comfortable there. I can take my dog, hang out with friends and listen to live music. This is my favorite place to grab a drink at present. read more

Party at the Moontower!!! This place is a wonderful addition to the amazing Austin social scene. Outdoor life at its best.. Play some cornhole, toss some washers, watch the "actives" play some volleyball or just enjoy the people. Its really a cant miss. The music is a great mix ranging from jazz to country. Be sure to check the site before you go so you get an idea of what is playing. Chill environment equals a great time. read more

Seriously, y'all - if y'all live in the Far South Austin area, make Moontower one of your frequent stops. Parking can be a little challenging on a typical Friday or Saturday night, but that's to be expected - and the live music is enough to make up for the headache. I LOVE THIS BAR!!! I'm from boring VA and was visiting my friend who took me here on Friday night and we had a blast! I loved the atmosphere and dogs running around, all the different stuff to do and food trucks. The cupcake truck was so good! One of the best patios in Austin. They have benches, picnic tables, cozy adirondacks in a circular setting - all in the midst of beautiful, mature oaks. The burgers from the food truck are killer, and they serve hot crunchy tots too! They have a great selection of cold beer, the staff is friendly, and there are a variety of different activities (volleyball, washers, etc) you can choose from, if just enjoying a good beer with great company isn't enough for you. ;) We had Sunday Funday here this week, and saw the sunset through the trees. Moontower is a great place to go for the Austin experience, great food trucks, great Texas beer selection, and great live music! It's a good spot for getting outside and playing sand volleyball or bean bags with your friends or co workers! They even started a yoga class on Sundays @ 11am!!! I highly recommend going! Moontower wins because it's one of the only bars in this area. Plus, it's huge and almost all outside and there is a ton of parking. The drinks are generally good, and they have games and volleyball courts and live music. The crowd is friendly, and it's all in all a good time. Sure, the bartenders could probably be nicer and more friendly. Security could also be more amiable, but whatever, it's a bar. I'm not coming here to make friends with the staff, I'm here to drink. I wish there was more food. There's a trailer that always has a line and always takes forever and it's just burgers and wraps. Overall a pretty good place to hang out in the South Austin 'hood. read more

We showed up after a nice meal with family, and they told my brother he looked drunk, and wouldn't serve him. He doesn't have the most active face due to a debilitating muscular disease as a child, which makes his facial expressions slower than usual. Worse, they kicked him out because they said once you have been cut off you can't remain on the property. We had just arrived, he was sober, and they were being assholes about the whole situation. I won't be back, and hope they begin to re-evaluate their evaluations. read more

Came here for the first time on a Tuesday night for Geeks Who Drink trivia. Beyond the promise of some potentially puzzling Q&A, I was stoked to be visiting a bar in "far" South Austin that had the cool factor of more centrally located spots. (Anytime I don't have to get on I-35 is a win for me!). The bar itself is located on a stretch of land that has sand volleyball courts and what look to be some hiking trails/wooded areas. Their local drink selection is top notch and their frozen margaritas are crazy good and reasonably priced. The highlight of this particular bar for me, though, is their expansive outdoor patio. There's string lights, loads of fans going, and picnic tables that can accommodate all kinds of groups. Without a doubt, Moontower Saloon definitely tops the list of my favorite Austin bars. read more

Terrible staff as confirmed with many other reviews, they're definitely not trying to earn a tip-just expecting it for giving you the time of day. I've also never experienced any other places with bouncers/managers having such a power trip and no one wants to go to a BAR crawling with cops probably thanks to said bouncers/managers. If this place didn't have location going for it I don't think it would be such a hit. I wouldn't be surprised to hear about them getting sued one day based on some of their other negative reviews. If you look through their reviews you'll see many negative followed by short positive reviews that look like they're there to counteract. Cover yourself and get a new staff or train your current staff to be respectful! read more

It was my first time there, we played some volleyball for an hour or so then we were asked to leave because it's 21 and up only. Our game was over and we were going to leave anyway. We didn't realize that kids are not allowed because we were outside very far from the bar area and it wasn't even 7:30pm. With so much space you would think they would be family friendly. This is my first-impression review of the place since I've only been there once. It's subject to change. I went there on a Monday night. There were plenty of people there, but it wasn't what I'd consider crowded. There were plenty of open seats, although the parking lot was pretty full. I read another review that said a neighboring lot charges $5 for parking, which I wouldn't pay for this place. If it was downtown and one of a few stops I planned on walking to, then sure, but there's nothing else nearby. I had two beers and played washers with some friends. We had a great experience. The draught selection was nice. Plenty local beers, and my favorite, Guinness. This area of town is thirsty for a good draught selection! Also, (I'm sure no one else really cares about this but...) the bartender took the time to give my Guinness a proper two-part pour! Thanks for that, dude! Some other reviews said bad things about the waitstaff, but I didn't notice any waitstaff whatsoever. I'd personally rather have no waitstaff than rude waitstaff. read more

I got to experience this fun spot with a group of friends, we were quite the eclectic group and each of us loved this spot. The bar inside was nice and rustic but the highlight for us was the outside seating area. We found a bench which was built around the trees which made for a unique experience for this vegas girl. The best part for me was all of the dogs that were able to roam around and enjoy the outdoors. There was also volleyball courts and corn hole which make for a fun place to switch things up from the average bar with loud music scene. read more
