Definition of your "neighborhood bar". I love having Drinks Backyard nearby, they have a massive outdoors space that's great for dogs... they even have a dog park! They have a few food trucks on site, but I've only ever tried the BBQ, which is quite tasty. I usually go to Drinks to watch some sports, one-off events, or to have a quick drink with friends before ending the night. It's certainly not a "cocktail bar", but they have some good drinks on their menu. The bartenders are super friendly, they have some fun board games to play, a pool table, and there's a cat who lives there who's pretty cute. The drinks are solid, reasonably priced, and the staff are always friendly and easygoing, which makes it an easy spot to hang out for a few hours. Visited for a concert this past weekend and would definitely come back for a night out or another event! Plenty of outdoor seating (some with heaters on a cold night, some shaded for food/drinks during the day), and pretty much everything you need from a food/drink option. Bar lines moved quickly, and though we didn't get to try the food trucks on this visit (seemed like a pizza and bbq choice), they looked great! Really cool spot but the bartender was rude. Asked for a sample of the frozen margarita drink and his response was "have you never had a frozen margarita before" in a very condescending manner. We were going to order more drinks but after this uncomfortable encounter we were one and done. Atmosphere is nice, lots of space, dog friendly, TVs with sports on everywhere and one large screen for the main games. Loved the BBQ food truck too. I like this spot a lot - spacious, lots of tables, big screen on stage - great for live shows or sports. They have food trucks around to get food and coffee. While a bit out of the way, Drinks Backyard is a nice little spot tucked away by the airport in south Austin. There's a big free open lot in the back and a small bar inside. The place has a HUUUGE outdoor area. Seriously -- it's enormous. They have a massive stage, as well. There is also a delicious pizza truck, coffee truck, and bbq truck onsite, and another misc truck out in the parking lot. So, there's plenty of food to choose from! There's plenty of beers on draft, and all the employees are friendly. I'm only knocking off a star because of how out of the way it is from downtown. Really dirty spot that my friends dragged me to. Incredibly sketchy with rude bar staff the food was mediocre at best and it was pretty clear that "chef Mike" cooked everything, and it was pretty badly priced for what it was. drinks were either super sweet or watered down. Drinks Backyard is a local watering hole I never would've found on my own, but luckily, a friend who lives nearby brought us along--it's his go-to neighborhood bar, and I can see why! From the street, it doesn't look like much, but the patio out back is huge. Inside, there's a pool table and a few seats for those who prefer to stay cool. I love that they have four frozen drinks on tap, including a non-alcoholic option, which is a nice touch. Always a good place to stop for a pint, a great midway for people who live in Dale or Cedar Creek. The vibe is always chill and the bartenders are awesome. Even the cats are nice. This is the right place for the right person. I'm not that person, but I was with the right person when I went. From the parking lot, we were greeted with the worst rendition of a Fall Out Boy song I've ever heard. Truly terrible. But the background music was amazing and sounded too real to be a recording. When we walked in when we realize the truth, this was a karaoke bar for rock music. I know I just said it, but I have to reiterate that the band which was composed of a guitar, a base, and a drummer were absolutely amazing. The only factor was the singer and frankly there were one or two singers who were pretty amazing. I'm not really into karaoke myself, but this was a nice change of pace. I wasn't afraid of the parking situation in the back, they ran out of room really quickly and it's all gravel but besides that I think people would love this place. read more

Love this place! It may be a bit out of the way for some, but our area was seriously lacking this kind of watering hole, and I'm thankful that it's as cool as it is. I love the awesome staff and the dog friendly atmosphere (there's even a little dog park). I also love that it's adults only. Nothing against the kiddos but there are plenty places nearby that have that covered (shout out to Meanwhile). I also love the free music and often discover cool new artists. The trivia on Tuesday and the artisan markets they have periodically are an added bonus. The old fashioned is strong and delicious and they have a solid Paloma. The food was okay. The menu looked so delicious for Smokin' Brew BQ, but a bit of a let down. Ordered the sriracha pimento cheese bites which were good, but not spicy at all. I feel mixed about the Buffalo Mac cheese. The mac & cheese was not good, but the buffalo chicken on it was good and very much needed it. The outside area is spacious with a big screen for sports. Came here to watch the UT women play in the Sweet 16, and were appalled to find that the home-town team was relegated to a single minor tv, while the big screen was used for men's basketball. Bar full of loud bros and barely legal babies, none of whom were ever carded. Also saw multiple patrons carrying anywhere from 3-6 drinks on their own (another major TABC violation). The service...at best was slow and at worst creepy. I went with my girlfriend and we felt extremely uncomfortable as the busser/cocktail server repeatedly stared or hovered right behind our seats. I love supporting local, but can't support what this establishment allowed or represented. read more

I host local events for a motorcycle group. I tried reaching out to discuss potentially using their venue to bring a lot of business, but I could not find a phone number. There was a Google chat option, and when I tried to talk with someone, I was told to email. I was shocked that a business wouldn't have some form of phone communication, and I mentioned it would be easier to discuss details over the phone. It was ignored. I saw an ad on Instagram and commented that I wish I could talk with someone to discuss a potential event and was told the same thing, and that someone would only get back to me if interested. I had questions and didn't want to go back and forth over email for weeks.. When I mentioned that it's not very good service to not have a phone number available, I was BLOCKED. I would never want to support a business that does not make it easy for customers to contact them, and ESPECIALLY a business that silences opinions of their potential customers simply foe not liking that they don't have a phone number available. Shame on this business and whoever manages their social media. read more
