If you are looking for a good contractor don't use JR Moorehead. He is a very good talker and knows all the right things to say like I will give you everything you want and give you excellent work. But reality is very different. He said that he would complete the work in three months. It took almost a year and then a year after he supposedly completed the work we found out that he had lied and never had the house inspected and the building permits were not closed. We had to pay to have the permits pulled to verify that they were open an talk to the building inspector to get the permits closed. During the construction we never saw JR except when he wanted money from us or when we had to get him to correct all the mistakes they made. He always said that I was trying to "nickel and dime" him was a direct quote. But, the carpet had to be replaced because it was defective. Yes, they had to install it three times. But, that was because I had to go to the distributor with a sample of the carpet myself to show them what was happening with the carpet. We kept telling them something was wrong with the carpet besides poor installation. Yes, he had to redo the windows several times. But, that was because they were installed improperly. And JR could tell the distributor the correct way to install the windows. But, he wasn't the one who installed the windows and he never inspected his workers work. And when we took pictures of the quality of work and showed them to the distributor he finally understood why we were unhappy. One window had to be completely replaced because they drilled thru the complete frame so rain was going into the walls and into our house. They used five different sizes is screws on each window. So although we had 9 same sized window in the living room - some windows were secured with 6 screws some had 12 screws and some had more. Some had washers and some were twice as big as the next one. I pointed out to JR that they installed broken porcelain tile because they thought it was OK since the refrigerator would eventually cover it. And later when we found tiles with minor cracks JR said it was too late to replace them. They were still re-modeling the house. We did not know until we talked to the building inspector this year that if we had contacted him he would have made JR correct that problem. JR had to correct the water heater hook-up. We had 2 gallon water heater installed under the sink because it took 5-10 minutes for the hot water to get to the kitchen. This was at JR's suggestion when we explained the problem. When we finally got to use it we found out that we only had 2 gallons of hot water. When we told JR that it should be connected to the hot water pipe so that it was just supplying hot water until the hot water from the large solar water heater got to the kitchen, he lied to us saying that was how it was supposed to installed and could not be installed any other way. Well, we went to the building show at Blaisdell and talked to a professional plumber who told us that we were correct in how it should be installed. He offered to talk to JR and tell him how it should be done. But, JR happened to be right there on the next aisle passing out his cards and we talked to the manager of HDC who was running the booth that JR was in. So we got that problem fixed. I can go on and on. But, the reason I hired a contractor was because we were working and did not have the time to oversee the work and run around correcting things. That is what We thought we were paying JR to do. So if you want to have quality work done the first time do not hire JR or his company. This is in response to JR Moorehead's response. The only change that we made to the plans were to open up the ceiling in the kitchen. As to the carport the person who drew up the plans gave us two options. We chose the option that extended out as far as was legal. That is what we ended up with. But, unfortunately we did not catch the mistake when the plans were drawn up. When we asked why it was built that way even JR said that he remembered us discussing that we wanted it built extending out as far as allowed. I notice he did not address the discussion where he demanded final payment from us and kept yelling at my husband that we were trying to nickel and dime him by refusing to pay until all the permits were closed. He likely lying and telling my husband that all permits were closed. We could not sell our house because the permits were still open. I had to call JR to get him to call the inspector to close the permits. And again JR lies and makes statements that are not true. We sold the house at a loss. There was no profit made. So I stand by my warning to beware of using JR as a contractor. I was just checking on this contractor. I was sorry to see that he did almost the same thing to a supposed friend. I hope people read these reviews and stay away from JR Moorehead. read more

We used Moorhead & Co for a major renovation project including 3 bathrooms, our master bedroom, and outdoor lanai cabinets. The end result is wonderful, and we would recommend them to anyone. JR was actively involved with planning the project, and Sherrie coordinated everything during construction. We particularly appreciated close communication between Sherrie, the lead carpenter Art, and us during the project, so that any potential problems were addressed promptly as they came up, and we ended up with exactly what we wanted. It is extremely rare that I leave a review for any business, but this one felt warranted. We hired and paid J.R. Moorehead to install windows, and renovated my bathroom about 7 years ago. He was a family friend and claimed he could do the work I needed. It was a difficult time as my wife was going through chemotherapy and J.R. would frequently use this fact over the next 7 years to establish trust and friendship with me. Every time I spoke with him, whether it was professional or personal, he would say "I was there when your wife was going through cancer and I feel like a part of your family now so I will always look out for you guys." This could not be further from the truth, as when I first came to him with the major leaking problems in my windows and the mushroom growing out of my ceiling, he defensively told me it was not his fault and he knows he did the work well. I offered to pay for whatever was needed to fix these problems and he then sent his company (which he started a few years after doing my job) to help figure out what was wrong. They constantly were telling me that they have 3 other big projects going on so it may take some time (also showing me where I was on the priority list). After weeks of waiting, this company said they would not help me with any of the problems, only do the drywall when everything is finished. At this point, I had no idea how many things J.R. Moorehead had done wrong in the work I hired him for 7 years prior, so I just chose to drop it and realized he was not as interested in "looking out for my family" as I thought. After months of mold removal, plumbers, and multiple contractors, it turns out that he did numerous negligent things to my house that caused over $30,000 in damage and repairs. Every single one on these contractors provided statements that showed the poor workmanship that led to all of these problems over the years including -Not installing a shower pan (not up to code) -Drilling into the base of widows to secure -Covering the weep holes where water is supposed to come out -Installing the windows flush with inside of the house instead of the outside These mistakes were so obvious to the professional contractors, that they were shocked and suggested I file a RICO and hold him accountable. This has caused me months of a chaotic house that is a construction zone and a great deal of money. When I realized how poor his work was, I contacted his company who took no responsibility and hid behind lawyers and the fact that he was not licensed at the time of doing the work (a fact that I, as a naive new home owner, was not aware of). J.R. himself never once talked to me after my initial call, and hid behind his company. I cannot help but feel taken advantage of by J.R. and his company, as he could have done the right thing at multiple steps, but instead is trying to save face and money by not taking ownership of his poor workmanship. His company who came out even used non-waterproof caulking as a temporary fix to the leaks which obviously lasted less than a day and did nothing to actually help. For these reasons, it is clear to me this company is not only poor, but focused on financial gain versus customer service. J.R. is a shady salesman who will say what he can to earn your trust, but try to escape responsibility due to ego and greed. He did this to me, a supposed friend who he claimed he would be there for, and yet has shown a lack of integrity and honor at every turn. If you hire this company, I truly hope they do a good job, because if they do not they will do everything they can to avoid responsibility. Hire at your own risk...and J.R. shame on you. read more

JR and the rest of the people at Moorehead and Company are awesome to work with. We did 2 master bathrooms, a powder room, and work on the roof. They made the experience of "living in construction" as pleasant at it possibly could be. JR and Sherrie are very involved in the day to day projects and they check in often to make sure the work in being done on time and efficiently. We wanted our master bathroom completely remodeled and had some specific ideas of what we wanted. We went to a few "designers" who were unable to accommodate us because they were pushing their own vendors which was nothing like what we had in mind. During this process we discovered that to get what we want we would have to be the designer and just needed a contractor. We set up an appointment with JR Moorhead and after explaining to him our plan, he was very honest in telling us what could and could not be done. He didn't try to up-sell us which I really appreciated. He really took his time with us, listened and satisfactorily answered all our questions. Our instincts told us this was the right choice, and we're very happy with our decision. We got a bathroom that actually exceeded our expectations. Thanks to JR's advice and encouragement on how to select the backsplash and tiles we now have a bathroom that "pops". You can see it on their website, under "projects" it's the "Moroccan Getaway"! As a contractor he's a little bit more expensive than most but we feel the quality of the workmanship was worth it. The sub-contractors that he used for laying of the tile, glass work, plumbing, woodwork, countertop, etc were top-notch. They were easy to deal with and always courteous and on time. We're retired so we were always here and able to catch any little "hiccups", and correcting them was a breeze. All we had to do was contact our project manager, Sherrie, who always responded promptly and was able to correct what was necessary. We really appreciated her scheduling. She would always let us know in advance who was coming and when. Remodeling is not the most fun thing to do, but I'm happy we choose JR Moorhead & Co because they were as accommodating as is possible in this type of situation. We would definitely use them again for any other remodels and would not hesitate in recommending them to others. read more

We decided to go with Moorhead and Company after looking at a few contractors for what we saw as a pretty big renovation on our home. From the first meeting we appreciated JR's professionalism, attention to detail and wanting to understand exactly what we wanted. He was very knowledgeable in all things renovation and was able to help us with things we may have not thought of otherwise. The contract process was not rushed and at the end JR made sure we included everything we needed. We were assigned a PM, Sherrie, and she was friendly, knowledgeable, present and available whenever we needed her. The timelines laid out in the contract were accurate. The only changes to the original cost were for changes we decided on. From beginning to end we were well taken care of. Everyone went out of their way to accommodate us as best as possible as we had some family health issues going on at the same time. We were a challenge as there were 4 family members who were all involved with this and the team always made sure that we could meet together, even on some off hours. Sherrie was excellent at keeping us updated on the progress along the way. We felt more like family than people who just met. Great company, great people, excellent work, reliable, no surprises. JR, the owner, is true to what he says and is sincere in his approach to business and is also personable to work with.
