Then there was another Yelp opportunity at Homestead to try its different cake flavors. There is a cute room next to the bakery just for events like tea time. The buttercream at Homestead is some of the best I've ever had. It's light but still rich and buttery. I will order from here if I ever need a cake for a special event. Since those two Yelp events, I've been back to the bakery several times to try its cupcakes and savory items, like the dill soup, which is so delicious and comes with cornbread. I'd love to see more savory meals offered. One drawback is that Homestead has limited hours which is why I've only been back several times. Walk-in hours right now are Friday 10am-6pm and Saturday 9am-3pm. The rest of the time it's open for special events and orders made in advance which you can do on its website. Also, you can only order one flavor of cupcake on the website, not a variety of flavors. It would be nice to see more flavors offered like the buttercream flavors I tried at the Yelp event as well as expanded hours for the bakery.

The casual vibe and decor are so welcoming and the staff are all smiles, even under pressure, so that alone made me happy I stopped in... but the food... oh my lord... I got cherry chocolate scones, Mexican chocolate cookies, and cranberry muffins. The scones were light and crumbly and the flavor was dynamic. The Mexican cookies had a delicate balance of cinnamon and chocolate with a crunchy topping of raw sugar that made each bite so lovely. The cranberry muffins were perfectly moist and delicious. The ladies at the salon lit up when they saw what I brought them and said they absolutely love their cafe menu for lunch as well, so I know I will be heading there after my appointment to grab a sandwich sometime soon!

Stopped in and picked up some butter tarts and scones. The butter tarts were one of the best I've…read morehad! They're soft and buttery in the inside with a perfect crust. In some of them, the filling ran down the side to make a chewy, caramel texture that adds another layer of depth to the pastry. As for the scones, they're soft and at a perfect sweetness level. There's ribbons of icing that graces the top, and has hardened so that you get a little crunch as you're eating it. The store owner was very helpful and let us know that she makes pastry gift baskets and that they can ship anywhere to the US and even some international countries. I'll be sure to stop by again, as there's a wide variety of baked goods to try (pies, cookies, cake balls, tarts, and more) and everything is baked on site.
