I visited Morais Vineyards for the first time yesterday to celebrate a dear friend's birthday, and I truly didn't know what to expect since I had never heard of it before. From the moment we arrived, I was completely blown away. As we parked and walked toward the field--with gazebos and a dock with seating--I immediately noticed how kid-friendly the vineyard is. The playground setup was incredibly creative and perfect for sparking a child's imagination. I honestly wish I had known ahead of time because I would have brought my little one! The property itself is beautiful and very well maintained. There were horses roaming around, which added such a peaceful charm. As we explored, I kept noticing thoughtful and unique touches everywhere--from a stunning wine tree to large decorative clay pots, and even buildings designed to resemble a Greek town that house classic cars. It all made the experience feel extra special. There was a wedding taking place, so part of the property was closed off, but it was easy to see how perfect this venue would be for an intimate "I do." Inside the main building, they offered a great selection of food, an impressive wine list available by the glass, bottle, or flight, and hands down the best wine slush I've ever had. My only critique is that it seemed like the AC wasn't working inside, and I really felt for the bartenders who were working so hard as it got busier throughout the day. Overall, I absolutely loved this place. It's one of the few spots that truly caters to both adults and children, and I'll definitely be back. read more

My husband and I visited Morais Vineyards on a Friday and split a Deluxe tasting. We were even allowed to pick from the Limited Edition wines! Our favorites were Touriga Nacional and Souzao. Our pourer was very knowledgeable and attentive and even threw in some extra pours; we especially enjoyed the story (and taste!) behind the Jeropiga. Portugal comes to you! Not only in a bottle, but the vineyard grounds are impressive and evokes old world European style. There are also several antique garages there that house cars, motorcycles, and even a firetruck! Joe the owner is personable and will tell you about his collection and his personal favorites. A Saturday wine tasting with my Lady friends was in order. We've been to many wineries in Virginia and I'm glad I had the opportunity to visit this beautiful establishment for the first time. Yes, it can get little noisy with a large indoor crowd but everyone was enjoying their stay, so the noise cancels out or maybe it was just the enjoyment of the experience. We were greeted immediately and very pleased with our service. Unfortunately, there the usual food trucks were not available but it was recommended and welcomed to order from a local Italian food business for a quick delivery. All of my lady friends selected the $15 wine tasting, which included all 12 of their everyday listed wines and a charcuterie plate for each purchase but did not include the limited edition wines. I'm typically a red wine fan but I was pleasantly surprised by their Sauvignon blanc. I would like to experience the winery on the outside when the weather is warmer but even a little rain didn't keep us away. Was here for a wedding as a guest. While the buildings and grounds were nice to look at there were gnats in our banquet room area where they served us the food. Gnats were constantly crawling on our wine and water glasses. Two died in my drink. I wanted to take a picture but I was actively trying to ignore it and just cover my glass with my phone but the ick was too much. We called ahead for a reservation as we had a group of 6. The tasting room manager was quick to respond and very accommodating. The tasting room itself is circular and has limited indoor seating (but lots of outdoor seating) so I would definitely recommend a reservation on weekends if you have a group. Otherwise there's bar seating in the middle with stools for 1 or 2 ppl to easily have a tasting. They offer cheese plates and packaged snacks for a fee, but you can also bring your own food. Large selection of wines + some sherries and liquors; all of which were estate or virginia grown. I really liked the red blend, Cabernet Franc and the cherry cordial. I was super underwhelmed with our visit to Morais. I'd followed them on socials for years and was so excited to finally have a chance to visit when in the area. The tasting was well priced and included a lot of their wines, so that was a plus since a lot of places in other areas of the state haven't gone back to doing server-led tastings. The grounds are really pretty, but the tasting room's acoustics are absolutely horrendous. They are child-friendly which normally would be fine but because it was a cold day, everyone was confined to this circular chamber with super high ceilings that just caused everything to echo! It was SO loud, and because they were busy the servers doing the tasting were stretched really thin and the whole situation was l rushed and loud and not even remotely enjoyable. I can't recall anything particular about the wines, they weren't bad but they also weren't great. I'd skip this one when in the area again. read more

We love this vineyard because they make fantastic dessert wine. The owner is originally from Portugal where originated port wine. There are many picnic tables outside and horses in fenced area. Even our kids can run around and enjoy themselves. When we came by, they had German food truck. It was nice to hang out outside and relax and enjoy wine tasting. Amazing venue/winery hidden all the way in Bealeton, VA. I've come here a few times and tasted all of the wines that they offer and have not been disappointed. It has a beautiful setting outside in the front and is great sight for any weddings or cute dates to the winery. They have a great selection of wines and majority of them are delicious!! I prefer sweet wines and they have some good selections of them. Oh..and they have WINE SLUSHIES!! OMG they are freaking good!! You have to get one if you go! On the inside, there is a large ballroom for large events and parties. As far as the groom's and bride's suites they are totally opposite. On one side you have a cute little mini house that looks like a makeup/hair salon that any bride would gawk over. ...and then you have the suite for the men.... A basement with a couple of tables and chairs. It looks so basic and plain. There's nothing that shows any kind of manly personality whatsoever. I could possibly imagine how those jails that celebs go to instead of the real prison and mirror it with the groom's suite. But hey it shouldn't really matter for the man..its only just one of the BIGGEST decisions of your life. It would be nice to have a nice space to ponder it. I visited Morais one weekend afternoon by myself for a tasting. I tasted the entire range of wines that were available. The wines are presented with a small tasting plate of various edibles: cured meats, cheese, baked goods, and chocolate. Your wine pourer will instruct you as to which food item to taste with the various wines. Overall, I enjoyed the tasting! At the end, they serve you a small tasting of a wine slushie. I had never tried one of these - and it sounded disgusting to my mind. But in execution - it was really, really good! My friends and I visited Morais Vineyard in Bealeton yesterday and had a wonderful experience. We decided to try the deluxe wine tasting and had no complaints. This was a great place to meet for an afternoon drink. Huge expansive lawns with picnic tables and umbrellas, some playground equipment for kids, and a small indoor seating area in the tasting room. I didn't get a good look at the food menu, but they did have some small bite offerings, as well as a food truck parked in the lot. We brought the animals and our own snacks and enjoyed sangria in the sunlight. We were initially interested in the frozen wines, but thought it was a little weird that both colors were the same taste, and frankly didn't love the flavor. It felt more upscale than some of the other wineries I've been to in the area, but still with plenty of room to relax. Good, but probably not one I'm going to prioritize a return to with all of the wineries in the region. read more

Accidentally stopped here with friends after a camping trip. We were craving some wine and by happenstance this place was nearby where we were. The glowing review is for the value of the wine tasting. For $10 you get to sample 8 wines - whites, roses, reds, as well as a charcuterie/chocolate plate for pairing. I'm not going to pretend every wine was a knockout - some of the whites were great while other items were very underwhelming. But that much variety costing less than a single glass at most joints is something I haven't found anywhere else. Managed to grab a bottle of Sauv Blanc on my way out, since it was my favorite at the time. There is some beautiful decor outside, with some wedding parties doing a shoot there. This is a really attractive winery just outside of Bealeton, VA. They offer a wide variety of wines ranging from whites to rosès, a range of reds including Touriga and several sweet wines including a brandy fortified port style, a moscatel, and a cherry wine. The winery features an elegant round tasting room with plenty of benches, tables and attractive landscaping to enjoy a picnic outdoors. There's also a play area with a train you can climb in for children. One thing this winery does that many others don't, is provide a tasting plate of food with each wine tasting. The food items are paired with specific wines and include mini toasts, bread stick, salami and pepperoni, two kinds of cheeses and both milk and dark chocolate. The wines are very good also, with several award winning varietals and really something for every taste. The food really sets off the wines nicely and it's a nice little bonus too. If you really like a wine, you can get it by the glass or bottle and cheese, salamis and crackers are also available to purchase at reasonable prices. The tasting room features a circular bar area topped with granite and a selection of both regular and high topped tables for enjoying your wine and snacks after the tasting. The winery owners are of Portuguese descent and their winery has a European theme that reflects this heritage. It's much more elegant than a lot of the wineries you will find in Virginia. There is plenty of parking, lots of photo ops, the wine is good and picnics and children are both allowed, making this a winning winery in every respect. A beautiful venue with amazing white wines! This venue is a hidden gem - it's tucked away in Bealeton. There is no gravel bumpy road up and plenty of parking - it's not your typical winery. It has a nice European look and feel with the stucco exterior and modern interior. The architecture and the wine is modeled after Portugal. The owner fell in love with Portugal and wanted to build a winery and a wedding destination after it. Although the tasting is a tad expensive at $17, you get to taste 12 wines with food pairings and keep 2 souvenir glasses. It's a pretty good deal. I liked the whites more than the reds. I recommend the Verdelho, Rose, Touriga, and Jeropiga. The ports are a bit strong - they have brandy in them. In addition to a fun afternoon for wine tasting, Morais would make a great wedding destination. It has a large ballroom that can fit 250 guests and a nice perugula and pond in the back with a renovated bridal suite. This is a charming winery located just south of Warrenton, serving Portuguese wine. We have been here a few times and we always come away very impressed with the beautiful grounds, delicious wine, and friendly service. They have a tasting room as well as a building for hosting large events such as weddings. There is a pond, toys for kids to play on and lots of ground to roam around on. The tasting room is an elegant round room that is spacious but I have never been here when it's been real crowded. The wine is delicious and they give you meats and cheeses, crackers to accompany your tasting, and you don't have to pay for it like all other VA wineries. Very nice winery to visit. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Definitely a Spanish (or Portuguese) vibe. Indoor seating for tastings or outdoor. We did like many of the wines but realize it's a personal choice. Our favorites were the Battlefield and the 100% Albariño and we normally likes reds over white. The Merlot was very nice as well as the Cab Franc. The blends were oddly not our favorites. Dogs and kids allowed. Some cheeses, meats and crackers available. Love having flights instead of glass after glass tastings. Nice to go back and sample wines back to back. We will be back for sure. read more

Venue: Outside of the winery was fine. There were no mountain views, as you are pretty far East, but there are some cool signs on the outside that are fun to take pictures in front of. The inside of the venue was gorgeous. Probably the second best we visited in this area that day. It was extremely busy (about 3:00pm on a Saturday) when we visited and the pourer was a little overwhelmed. I swear at one point, he came over and poured us some wine, said the name of the wine and just said "green pepper" and walked away. Each taster is given a few breadsticks, chocolate, pepperoni, and salami; which paired really good with the wines. Wine: Unfortunately, at this point in our tasting we had already visited 3 other wineries. My palate at this point was pretty much shot. I feel like the wines were all pretty good. Nothing spectacular that I can remember, but I felt all were good. Overall: I definitely want to visit this winery again and walk around and explore more. Who would have thought that a beautiful vineyard that looks like it was plopped straight out of a European village would be located a quarter mile from the Five Guys in Bealeton, Virginia? Built to model the government building-turned-hotel where one of his daughters was married in Portugal, the spacious winery building is a tribute to the owner's heritage. The staff at Morais Vineyard literally charmed the pants off me. From their funny anecdotes about the owner's family (everything in the vineyard is family owned and operated -- even the labels are hand placed by the owner's 12 year old grandson), Lucy and Ethel references, and general knowledge about Portugal's wine industry, it was obvious that everybody was very passionate about their work. Wine Tastings are $7 and include crackers, cheese, and a taste of Portugese cake. You get to taste their basic reds, whites, and other varietals but my favorite was a brandy infused dessert wine which was absolutely fantastic (and lethal!). As a wedding venue this place can't be beat. Not only is it gorgeous it is very affordable (as far as weddings go). Pros: Full day rental, ballroom fits 300 people, separate bridal loft and changing area, full kitchen, petting zoo on premises (for kids!), chiavari chairs included in price tag (usually costs $6 - $11 per chair), friendly and responsive staff, bring your own alcohol, choose your own caterer Cons: You will probably have to spend your wedding night at a HoJo read more

Another delayed June review. What I liked, I liked a lot. And what I disliked, I disliked a lot. But on balance it was still a very worthwhile trip. I did the Reserve tasting for $15 (normal tasting $8) and received 11 wines. The Touriga Nationale was the best; very complex body and only $25. The 18% alcohol Jeriopiga Merlot/Cab Franc blend (aged with a cinnamon stick) was excellent as well. As you would expect from a Portuguese themed winery they had excellent sangria. And on a hot day, the tart green-apple flavored Battlefield White would probably hit the spot. And for desert wines, the brandy-fortified Moscatel didn't disappoint. But my favorite part was probably the outstanding cherry wine poured into a tiny chocolate cup, which you then ate whole. I've had wine/chocolate pairings before, but this was special. They even sold the cherry in tiny bottles; reminded me of stocking stuffers (I hope mom is reading my review). All that goodness aside, I have very mixed feelings about the venue. Yes, the new tasting room looks wonderful from the outside. But the grounds looks like all the worst parts of a wedding factory! I'm often suspicious of locations that incorporate weddings as a key part of their revenue stream; I find it takes away from the wine experience for the rest of us. Having big signs on the lawn saying "Amore" and "Love" just seemed over the top. Or maybe it was the coop with doves and a peacock; when his feathers were fluffed up the poor guy looked like he could barely move around. But the worst part was the acoustics of the tasting room. It seems like an echo chamber. It was a busy day so that made it worse; my server had to practically yell to be heard, and she was right in front of us. Will I go again? Yes, very likely. Very pleased with the decision to drive from DC to this winery. My husband and I wanted to take a nice date day out to a winery for the Veterans Day weekend and relax. When we arrived, the tasting room was moderately busy but we were able to find a spot to start our tasting right away. We patiently waited about 10 minutes before being greeted, although others that arrived after us were being greeted and provided service. Our server, Jason, quickly realized that we had not started, offered an apology, and got us started. We were provided a pairing plate along with the first tasting. The wines were good and we rated them all pretty high, except for the ones that were just personally not my kind of wine :). I am a white wine drinker and was more than happy to share a bottle of the Comendador along with some charcuterie and chocolate for purchase. We left with 3 other bottles to take home with us. As an aside, we were sitting outside for the rest of our visit when our server and his sister, Heather who manages the location sat outside for a break. We went down to ask if they would take a photo of us which they happily did. We had very good conversation and intend on coming back sometime in the future. While Morais is absolutely stunning, run away. Communication prior to our wedding was amazing but when it came to our day everything fell through. Morais has pointed the fingers at everyone else and not taking any responsibility for their own actions. Morais makes you use one of their preferred catering and if you don't use them its an additional $1,000 fee. The catering team had issues on the day which they have acknowledged and since then tried to make it better with us. As a couple that had to postpone our wedding from 2020 and been planning since 2017 you would think they would be caring. Nope, their staff was short, unresponsive and did not hold up to items on our contract. During your tour they will discuss they make sure they do not have tasting room guest come and crash your wedding. Their staff member did not do their job until our day of coordinator ran around to find them and then they finally did their job. This was 10 minutes before we started walking down and about 4 minutes from when our timeline said it was suppose to start. Then they state you have access to the cellar for photos. When we walked down to the cellar there was machinery in the room blocking the cellar access for photos. Our videographer and photographer had to place their expensive equipment on the floor to physically move the items themselves. My husband was holding my dress up to make sure it did not get wine on it. The staff member from Morais did not move the items nor barely help instead just watched. This photo access was clearly stated in our timeline which Morais asked for multiple times prior to our wedding yet the area was not ready for us when we arrived. Then when everything is said and done about other items Morais has taken zero responsibility for anything and even charged us more money. They have willingly pointed the blame to every other vendor and stating they did so and so. Morais claims you dont have to purchase all the wine that you have selected, they were very happy to make sure all of it was placed in our car to be purchased even though 15 bottles of wine could have been returned. Morais ruined a day we can never recreate. Instead of being on a wedding high from the night before we spent the whole day search for my bridal bouquet that Morais and others on their own account choose to take out of the rental van and leave at the venue to be thrown away the next day. Morais's email told us it was in a rental car which it was not. The following day they send an email that we left florals in the venue and charged us $100. When we realized that someone had taken the florals out of our vehicle including my irreplaceable bridal bouquet we quickly asked them if the have thrown away my bouquet if it was part of what was left behind. They swore left and right it was not. Attached are photos of my bouquet and the bridesmaid bouquets and the glass vases they were in that they threw in the dumpster. My dear parents had to show up early in the morning to go through the dumpster since Morais took no responsibility of the poor communication. When Morais finally called me they did not apologize or acknowledge places they misspoke in their emails. They continued to be on the defensive and until the 5th time of pointing out one item they acknowledged their error. Morais is not compassionate and seems to only care about getting paid. The owner has been disrespectful to multiple members of our team that our own vendors are disappointed in the outcomes Morais has taken. Again the communication from Morais is horrendous when it comes to your big day happening. While the venue may be stunning, the headache and irreplaceable items are not worth the price tag Morais has placed on it. Find another venue that is willing to take your day seriously! The 10K + price tag on this venue can be better spent at another beautiful wedding venue in Virginia. read more

We started by doing 2 different flights of their wines. In hindsight, we should have done the deluxe tasting and sampled them all. There are (for my palette) no bad wines here. They were all good, even my wife, who has a much drier palette, liked almost all the wines. This is the first winery we have visited that makes wine in the Portuguese style. Such a subtle, but fabolous difference. We really enjoyed their port and the Touriga which are made with imported grapes. Their Sauvignon Bland was probably one pf the best I have had domestically. The venue is absolutely beautiful and kid friendly. They have play areas close by and miniature ponies that keep the wee ones entertained. On top of that, they actually have areas for those who partake in tobacco which is so rare in todays world. It is separate enough to not be intrusive, but those who do partake don't feel like the section class citizen! read more

Stunning old world style. Elegance, comfort, easy all come to mind as we sit on the porch of Morais tasting room sipping a glass of wine. From the beautiful architecture to the stunning view you feel like you are visiting Portugal. The wine tasting experience was exceptional, each wine was thoroughly presented and a lovely little paring plate included. The wines we're very nice and diverse, something for everyone's pallet. The history of Morais was shared throughout the tasting and was extremely Interesting. We so loved this relaxing afternoon on the porch at Morais we will certainly be stopping by often to sip on wine, walk the stunning grounds and oh yes enjoy a wine slushy...oh so good! read more

Very nice place with a good variety of places to hang out depending on your mood. Interior is well decorated. Right outside are some family friendly options that work well for candid photos. We preferred the exterior structures by the vines and ponds. Very picturesque. Wines were good. White and red.Sommelier was great. Tasting was a good deal especially with the charcuterie. We came here for our 5th anniversary and did two classic tastings plus the Reserve tasting and not one wine disappointed. They were all absolutely delicious. We have a tradition where every year we choose a wine to celebrate our next anniversary and Morais had the perfect bottle for us, the Sauvignon Blanc! We also left with half a case. Highly recommend coming here. Covid safe, beautiful grounds, plenty of parking and well worth the trip! read more
