Great experience Fajitas were authentic best we've had in a long time. Service was very good, portions were generous and prices very fair.

My wife and I were in town for a soccer match (winners!) and needed a late lunch. Our normal go-to…read morespot in Seymour, Larrison's Diner, was closed because it was after 2:00 in the afternoon so we needed something new. Our first choice was a little fish sandwich shop that looked a bit different, but after they turned out to be closed that day we went across the street to San Marcos. And holy heck am I glad we did! It looks like a typical Mexican place inside - bright colors, decor from the same restaurant supply store every Mexican restaurant seems to use, but with the addition of what I would consider the 'nightclub section' with a dance floor, multiple lighting effects and a big video board. It was early afternoon, so obviously that area wasn't in use but I bet it's an interesting place after dark! Service was great - quick to the table, easy refills on everything. My wife ordered the Chimichanga and I went against my norms and did the 'create your own' platter and chose three items: Burrito, Chimi, and another Chimi. This was strategic because USUALLY when you see a 'create your own' that means tiny sized items - half a burrito, half a chimi, etc. - figured I wanted more chimi than burrito. Seems they don't do that here. My platter was HUGE. Full-sized beef burrito, delish. TWO full-sized beef chimichangas. Also delish. Plus beans and rice. I even did something I never do: Asked for a box to take an entire chimichanga home with us. Wife loved hers as well. This is a must-repeat. In fact, Larrison's may be the past and this place is my future the next time I'm in Seymour. Which is likely never, but if we are anywhere nearby, we'd make a side trip to eat here again.

If we lived in Seymour I'd be here weekly. To start, the chips were just made and the accompanying salsa had a delightfully different flavor. Together just perfect. I had the Shrimp Vera Cruz which was shrimp and sliced potatoes in a nicely spiced red sauce and served with a salad and rice. My wife ordered the Carnitas Street Tacos served with rice and refried beans. The carnitas were perfectly grilled. The taco shells were also so fresh. Our server was very attentive and friendly throughout our meal.

We stopped last night for dinner. After being seated and provided with chips and a couple of salsas we were greeted by our server, Luis. Luis took our drink order, a Palermo and a Margarita and left us to study the extensive menu. Drinks were promptly provided and Luis to our our order. My wife ordered the Monica's Plate, a delicious dish of rice served with tender strips of chicken and large grilled shrimp in a queso sauce. I ordered Shrimp a la Mexicana, a delightful mix of grilled shrimp with grilled jalapeños, onions and tomatoes. All grilled to perfection and served with rice, salad, guacamole and pico de gallo. Both meals were well more than either of us could finish, but we were traveling through sadly left the remains. (We both did finish all of the shrimp). Throughout out meal, Luis continued to stop back at our table checking on us and refilling our glasses. In all another wonderful meal at El Nopal in Seymour.

From the moment we were seated, our server seemed rude and acted like he didn't really care that we were there. I tried to overlook it because I came for the food. After we received our meals, he checked on us only once. About halfway through my meal, I wanted to order another margarita. I waited around five minutes but couldn't find our server. When I finally saw him, I tried to get his attention, but before I could even ask for anything, he interrupted me and said, "No, in a minute," then walked away. Instead of coming back to our table, he immediately went to the table behind us and then disappeared again without acknowledging us. After waiting another 10 minutes, I had enough. We asked for boxes, packed up our food, and left. Because of the poor service, I left a $10 tip. Unfortunately, the experience didn't end there. My son accidentally left one of his shoes, so I went back inside to get it. As I walked in, I overheard our server telling the busser, "She only left $10. I told you." The moment he noticed I had heard him, he immediately stopped talking and walked away. That was incredibly unprofessional and disappointing. The only reason I left a $10 tip was because of the poor service we received. I've visited this restaurant many times and have always had excellent service, which is why this experience was so surprising. I hope this feedback is taken seriously so that other guests don't have a similar experience.

The granddaughter was our server, and she was very helpful to us explaining the dishes. I asked about the drinks, pineapple water in particular, and she offered to give me a sample taste. I ordered the largest they had. Oh, did I mention they make their drinks? They also offer a variety of sodas. The menu is homemade and very good. I had sopes, something I had never tried. Wonderful. The meal starts with chips, salsa and guacamole. The salsa and guacamole are homemade with a little kick. A variety of squirt on sauces come for the meal. I prefer the crema, but there is also green sauce or red sauce. If that isn't enough there or hot sauces where the napkins are kept. My husband had three steak tacos, and he liked them. I have eaten at many Mexican restaurants over the years, but this one had that homey feel. The menu has pictures and the prices are very affordable. I know we will be back. The dress code is informal, casual. This restaurant is downtown in Seymour and according to the granddaughter they have been there for twelve years.
