Worth the visit if you're in Seymour, IN
Patrick M.

I normally only eat so called authentic Mexican in southern California because other places usually fail to reach my standards. That wasn't the case here. As other reviews state, the food is great and the building doesn't look like much. I've found that the crappier the building looks the better the food is when it comes to "Authentic Mexican" I drove by the place at first because it was hard to tell what was inside the building, signage sorta blends in and not real noticable. Once I entered I was happy I took the effort to find it. There were a couple locals from a near by factory getting lunch to go. They kept raving about the food. I ordered my 4 street tacos to eat there. While relaxing and enjoying my meal I observed a steady flow of customers both eating in and getting to go. If I'm ever back in Seymour, I'll be sure to stop in again.

By far the best Mexican in Seymour. Muy delicioso! Taco Mix is as authentic as it gets here. Although I'm used to more spice, for the tastes in this area, folks will find it just fine. The tasty red and green sauce is mild (to me), I can drink the stuff. The restaurant, located just east of downtown, also has a small grocery store attached selling Mexican goodies. I had the beef tacos. The meat was seasoned, flavorful, and lean, and came on corn tortillas. Lettuce, tomatoes and onions along with grated Mexican cheese and some Mexican crema were placed on top. The best Mexican places where I currently live in Texas are little taquerias like this. If you really want to have a taco night, I suggest you visit Taco Mix.

Food is good and reasonably priced...but they NEVER get our order right...we get charged for the food that we didn't order.

Really good. Carnitas tacos just like the ones I had in Mexico. No menus, just tell the guy what you want. We will definitely be back.

Great sandwiches, and for the cost, cant compare with others in town. Not alot of drink selection, do bring your own.

My wife and I were in town for a soccer match (winners!) and needed a late lunch. Our normal go-to…read morespot in Seymour, Larrison's Diner, was closed because it was after 2:00 in the afternoon so we needed something new. Our first choice was a little fish sandwich shop that looked a bit different, but after they turned out to be closed that day we went across the street to San Marcos. And holy heck am I glad we did! It looks like a typical Mexican place inside - bright colors, decor from the same restaurant supply store every Mexican restaurant seems to use, but with the addition of what I would consider the 'nightclub section' with a dance floor, multiple lighting effects and a big video board. It was early afternoon, so obviously that area wasn't in use but I bet it's an interesting place after dark! Service was great - quick to the table, easy refills on everything. My wife ordered the Chimichanga and I went against my norms and did the 'create your own' platter and chose three items: Burrito, Chimi, and another Chimi. This was strategic because USUALLY when you see a 'create your own' that means tiny sized items - half a burrito, half a chimi, etc. - figured I wanted more chimi than burrito. Seems they don't do that here. My platter was HUGE. Full-sized beef burrito, delish. TWO full-sized beef chimichangas. Also delish. Plus beans and rice. I even did something I never do: Asked for a box to take an entire chimichanga home with us. Wife loved hers as well. This is a must-repeat. In fact, Larrison's may be the past and this place is my future the next time I'm in Seymour. Which is likely never, but if we are anywhere nearby, we'd make a side trip to eat here again.

We just stumbled into this place as the restaurant we were intending to go to was closed…read more(apparently because of staff shortages ). San Marcos is an absolute find. If we lived in Seymour I'd be here weekly. To start, the chips were just made and the accompanying salsa had a delightfully different flavor. Together just perfect. I had the Shrimp Vera Cruz which was shrimp and sliced potatoes in a nicely spiced red sauce and served with a salad and rice. My wife ordered the Carnitas Street Tacos served with rice and refried beans. The carnitas were perfectly grilled. The taco shells were also so fresh. Our server was very attentive and friendly throughout our meal.

My wife and I have been coming here off-and-on for 13 years. Needless to say, it's up and down…read more We dined this past Friday, February 13th at this location. The service took forever. We sat for 25 minutes before our order was taken. We waited another 45 minutes for our food to arrive. The server (older gentleman with parted salt and pepper hair, chubby guy) simply slammed our plates on the table and left. The food was cold and had obviously died in the window (this allows for foodborne illnesses to populate). He didnt come back for quite some time. We were so hungry that we ate the cold and subpar food. Long after our plates sat on the table, he stopped by. I was polite and told him the food was cold. He then got mad and started blaming us. He told me that I should have made him aware, and he responded by telling me I didnt let him know. My response was "you didn't come back".....and wow did he get mad. He slammed the table and told me to talk to the cashier. Come to find out, the cashier is the female owner. She was very rude and refused to make things right while displaying zero integrity whatsoever, but offered us a discount on our next visit (isn't going to happen, they couldn't run my credit card fast enough and shove us out the door). The server was at the host stand and started talking smack about us (thinking we dont know Spanish). Once my wife stepped back in to the restaurant and looked at him, he shut up quickly. If you read reviews you will notice a trend. When things are great, they are great. When they drop the ball, they become combative and refuse to take ownership and accountability for their failures as an establishment. What a terrible way to represent the El Nopal brand. We will never be back. Save your money for a restaurant that displays passion on a consistent basis. If you want Mexican food, go to a different restaurant that upholds traditional Mexican values instead of completely disrespecting their own culture and values with their poor representation. The one good thing during our visit was the band. They were fun!

I'm not sure what has happened here. The service has disappeared for all intents and purposes…read more Stories of waiting 45 minutes after ordering and giving up, paying for beverages and leaving. Lots of possibilities not the least of which is ICE scaring off employees. This store has been a reliable, friendly and welcoming location. I hope it gets back to that state.

The granddaughter was our server, and she was very helpful to us explaining the dishes. I asked about the drinks, pineapple water in particular, and she offered to give me a sample taste. I ordered the largest they had. Oh, did I mention they make their drinks? They also offer a variety of sodas. The menu is homemade and very good. I had sopes, something I had never tried. Wonderful. The meal starts with chips, salsa and guacamole. The salsa and guacamole are homemade with a little kick. A variety of squirt on sauces come for the meal. I prefer the crema, but there is also green sauce or red sauce. If that isn't enough there or hot sauces where the napkins are kept. My husband had three steak tacos, and he liked them. I have eaten at many Mexican restaurants over the years, but this one had that homey feel. The menu has pictures and the prices are very affordable. I know we will be back. The dress code is informal, casual. This restaurant is downtown in Seymour and according to the granddaughter they have been there for twelve years.
