Fresh ingredients since they run through them so much. Good customer service. Even the guy was helped me and was unhelpful the first couple of times has gotten a ton better. The few times I have gone in without a game plan they always help me figure one out. It has never come out as a bad decision. This is also a great place to go if you want to look into making beer. This is the go to place for brewing and wine-making supplies. Primarily focused on internet orders, the More Beer warehouse in Concord also has a great showroom. More importantly, if you are looking specific products that you don't see on the shelves, the staff will happily go and look in their attached warehouse for what you are searching for. They are also the best priced source for many brewer specific products. More important than the stock and the price is the knowledgeable and helpful staff. I've had numerous brewing and wine related questions answered by the staff. I've even seen wine-makers and brewers who are having problems with their creations bring in samples for the staff to analyze. It's pretty amazing to witness an expert taste a sample of wine, give the problem and then go grab the solution off of the shelf and show the customer how to use it and even do a small-scale version with the remaining sample. read more

Update: After a year of avoiding MoreBeer, one of the supervisors heard my story and set out to make things right. I was very much impressed with David Wonder's resolve to set things right, and he has restored my faith in MoreBeer. I was very upset the way one employee ruined my day at MoreBeer, but after meeting David and Vito, I know there are employees at MoreBeer who genuinely care about the customer's experience. I will go back to using MoreBeer to order equipment I need. I am so frustrated. I just left MoreBeer in Concord, and I hated the experience! The manager of the store was some old guy who questioned all of my brewing practices. When I told him that others do what I want to do, and in fact Blichmann makes equipment for exactly what I want to do, he threw out, "I have been brewing for 35 years!" All I wanted to do was buy a pump and all the fittings, and he wanted to tell me about what I wanted to use it for wasn't right. I asked to be helped by another person, and the person was another older man who didn't know anything about the products I was trying to buy. The second guy must have been new, because he didn't seem like he knew what he was doing behind the counter either. I like to drink beer and this place is the enabler. Contrary to some reviews the staff has been very helpful. It does, however, help to know what you are talking about by doing research online, don't rely on the employees to learn about an art dating back thousands of years... Anyway if you haven't already tried it, check out the oatmeal stout, its very good. Also I suggest using filtered water. read more

I'm a huge Blichmann fan so I can't vouch for their kettles or conicals, but they have really great special offers and its nice that they have so much in stock. I like having a brew supply shop nearby with such a large warehouse. They have some nice stuff that they put together themselves. I bought their beer filtering kit which would be pretty easy to DIY but its nice that they will do it for you and not charge a huge markup for it. When the times comes I would love to pickup one of their sculptures, they really integrate customer feedback to make them better all the time. read more

I love this place. As a concord resident I feel super lucky to be able to drive down the street and pick up supplies to start brewing today. The staff is excellent. Anytime I have a question they give me a super clear answer. Being able to mill the grain on site saves a ton of money once you start going into bigger setups as well. This store is beyond awesome! An entire store dedicated to BEER! Although I know nothing about brewing my own beer (which they seem focused on) they also carry lots of parts! MoreBeer is a great store. The staff is helpful. I am a frequent customer because I regularly brew beer. I have had stellar customer service from Bill, the store manager. Multiple times, I have had difficult problems with my kegerator and kegs. Every time, Bill has bent over backwards to help me out. He has expertise and is ever patient in solving brew or equipment problems. I work hard all day and I do not relish spending hours trying to fix problems when I get home. I recently got into home brewing and luckily my dad still had a lot of the equipment needed for it. Of course his tubing and airlocks needed to be replaced along with a few other things. So I went down to Beer Beer and More Beer. Their set up here is awesome. Honestly I could go down there once every two weeks and spend my whole pay check (both a good and a bad thing). The service there is always excellent, but my experience may be different seeing how an old friend of mine works there. I really enjoy the kits they have made up for different brews. All of the ones I have tried have turned out really well. I am beginning to move on to do my own versions but nonetheless they have all the needed ingredients at a decent price. Very helpful staff. Equipment selection is phenomenal, don't forget to check out the bargain table! Their all-grain recipes are extremely affordable. They all come with clarifying tablets and corn sugar (if you're into sugar priming) and have huge, delicious grain-bills. My personal favorite so far is Mike's American Amber Ale. Morebeer in Concord has been my go to store for all my brewing life. The staff is helpful and their grain and hop selection is great. I always find at least 90% of the materials I need. The reason I downgraded them to 3 stars is their yeast. Never EVER just go to the fridge and grab the first package of your chosen yeast without checking the date. Some of the packages in the fridge are really old. Last time I was there some of the Wyeast packages in the fridge had already started to bloat. What are they doing with their yeast? Are they interrupting the cooling chain? Otherwise a very decent store. Just buy your yeast somewhere else. read more

Deplorable service. After hearing some horror stories about this vendor, I still pressed my luck and got burned. Ordered $100 of ingredients, three weeks later still no shipment, no email, no call. I decided to inquire about my order, only to find that they held up my entire order, with no notification, because ONE item was out of stock. Never offered to substitute the item, never contacted me. The thrilling part of all of this was that this item was showing IN STOCK on thier website. Appauling. Cancelled the order and went with the competition, had my ingredients within 2 days, that is service. For what it is worth, this item is STILL OUT OF STOCK 5 months later! On previous orders I had purchased crushed grains from Morebeer... the crush was so deplorable that I went from 82% eff. to 68%! There were actually UNCRUSHED kernels still in the grist. Again, the competitions crush was excellent and I again saw 82% eff. from my system. Items are CONSTANTLY out of stock, SOME ITEMS are out of stock but still show in stock on thier site. Complete lack of communication. There are too many good vendors out there, steer clear of this one. read more

I've been brewing for about 15 years. I've bought supplies from many shops in the Bay Area and via mail order, but I no longer shop at other home brew shops. Really, even the cheep bastar... um, frugal individual that I am, I rarely even try to find a better deal online anymore. Those times that I do shop their prices, I confirm that they are usually the best price going and they'll often price match if they aren't. They sell most everything you need. If they don't have it, they can often get it. If they can't get it (or are out and you need it now), they will tell you where to get it. If you have a problem with something you bought from them, they'll make it good. If you have a problem with something you bought elsewhere else, they'll probably try and help you fix it. I say all these things as fact, as they have done them all for me at some point or another... and I'm not a buddy of the owner, the manager, the head bottle washer or anyone else there, I'm just "some guy" who shops there 3-5 times a year. I saw a comment here on Yelp about them "seeming busy, even with limited customers and multiple staff"... and I've noticed this too. I think this is because when they are helping you, they are only helping YOU. If you know where everything is, you can bring it to the counter and someone will ring you up. If you need help and wait your turn (and they always seem to know who's next), they will give you the attention you want. If you've got a quick question and don't need them to hold your hand, they don't seem to mind you asking - just don't expect them to stop helping the person they're with. I don't make wine or roast coffee, so I can't speak to either of those product lines, but in the world of Home Brew Shops, these guys rule. read more

They have terrible customer service and their website has issues. Here's how my experience has gone: 1. I placed an order online and change my billing and shipping addresses because I moved. 2. Then next day, I receive an email from Keith Klingler saying that I didn't enter any shipping information for the order. 3. It's impossible to place an order without entering shipping info, but I'm not that bothered. I just email him the correct address. 4. Six days go by and more order hasn't shipped, so I email asking for a status update. 5. Keith inform that my credit card was declined. (It's because he didn't change the billing address only the shipping. 6. I ask why they didn't inform me there was a problem and Terry simply apologizes and offers to cancel my order. 7. I realize I need a few additional items, I just place another order. Also, I notice their site has turned my original order into a quote, so I know it's dead. BTW, this time the website addresses has no address saved (old or new), so I enter them again. 8. This time I get an email from Terry Howery saying that I didn't enter a shipping option. (Again, it's not possible to place an order without choosing a shipping option). I choose the free shipping and my order total reflected that. Terry's email included an invoice that still had the old, original addresses on it! 9. So I emailed Terry. I said that I would like free shipping and to please correct my addresses. 10. He emailed me back with a corrected invoice. 11. 4 days later I receive my order. 12. 3 days later I receive the order again. 13. I email Terry them to inform him that I received double orders, asking for an RMA. 14. He replied and said that it''s my fault. 15. I'm contacting my credit card company. I will never do business with them again. read more

Summary: The place to go if you need something you can't find at other stores. Not the place to go for basics or if you want good advice. This goes for wine and beer, I can't comment on the coffee stuff. Pros: 1. Huge selection, with lots of less common items, such as specific yeasts, malolactic, ingredients, wine additives, etc. 2. Sells hops rizhomes, which is cool. 3. They have a pile of used and returned items for sale. Cons: 1. The staff is somewhat clueless, although friendly and good enough at pretending to know what they're talking about to fool any beginner. This is ok with beer supplies, but don't don't risk 40 gallons of wine to their advice, they might steer you down the road to some crappy wine. 2. They always seem to be too busy despite only having a few customers at a time with multiple employees at all times. 3. We left w/everything we needed after purchasing the 3G beer starter kit and some tips on what to do, as well as what NOT to do. A few weeks ago I competed in the Wold Cup of Beer with my Belgian Dubbel. Of course all of my ingredients came from More Beer. I have made this recipe many times and it has always been one of my favorites. I came in 2nd place in the Belgian Strong Beers category. I've been ordering from MoreBeer and MoreWine for 12 years but am seriously reconsidering due to the service I received on my order of a Russian River Consecration lambic ale kit and two smack packs. The Wyeast Roselare Sour Blend pack was already fully bloated and activated when it arrived, which is a problem because I won't be pitching those bacteria until about a month following the completion of primary fermentation. I phoned MoreBeer right away, was on hold for 30 minutes before I followed their suggestion to leave a message (to be returned promptly I was told) and began boiling my wort because I had the other smack pack (Belgian Abbey yeast) to do the primary fermentation. Well, after 30 hours no signs of fermentation after pitching the yeast and I have had no phone call or email reply to my additional 4 emails! Two days later and no response from MoreBeer. I went to Northern Brewer today to get yeast but am concerned my wort has already been seriously compromised by this long time sitting. $69 down the drain. Terrible service by MoreBeer and defective supplies! read more
