We've been coming here for years, and every time I tell myself I'm not coming back again. Here's why: The food is WAY OVERPRICED. For someone who worked in a not one but two TexMex restaurants for over a combined total of 17 years, an Enchilada Plate shouldn't be more then $7 - $8 for cheese, a little more for meat options and shrimp. My husband and I can't get out of the there for less then $70-80 after tipping for 1 appetizer, 2 beers and 2 entrees... CRAZY! I generally get a frozen margarita and a float of Grand Marnier and it costs $15 since they sell you a whole shot of liqueur for $7. The positives - staff is almost always spot on and food is fast/hot. They are missing out on a HUGE opportunity by not offering breakfast. Long time customer and been to most locations. Stopped by Elgin location on the way back to Austin from Houston to have margaritas and eat. Margarita on the rocks was extremely watered down and could not taste tequila at all. After bringing it to the attention of the manager, was told I could pay more for a another shot or buy a top shelf. Just a littler advise, in the customer service industry, the customer is always right. Their should be a genuine effort to make the customer happy. NOT HAPPENING HERE!!! Were these guys always connected with the chain of Morelias in Austin and surrounding? Because before they moved into their new location, I would've assumed it was a locally owned Elgin staple. Which is exactly what it still feels like, just now their logo matches the chain's and the surroundings are nicer. Elgin can still count themselves lucky to have a fresh, quality restaurant(anyone remember Hartz Chicken Buffet...?). I have eaten here no less than 30 times. Every time, the food was hot, fresh, and tasted amazing, which is saying a lot considering the very wide variety of food choices on their menu(chicken, steak, seafood, pastas, plus traditional and non-traditional mexican faire--fried avocado anyone?). Dessert options are limited and not impressive, but you'll likely be full from their generous portions anyhow. Their service can be mediocre depending on the day/number of other customers, but I recognize most of the same employees have been working there all the years I've been coming here. I'm sure they feel overworked and underpaid just like the rest of us somedays. Don't forget to ask for the green cilantro salsa when they bring the chips and red salsa. This restaurant is like any other lame "mexican restaurant " as they want to call them. I wanted to try this place out since my family is from Michoacan and I love the city of Morelia. There is no dish on the menu that is authentic from that city or the state. Why would you say you have authentic food when you don't BIG LIE. Tortillas are store bought. Since nothing was authentic and it was cold outside I got a tortilla soup, not very it had a lot of cumin which I hate the taste of it. My husband got chicken romano which was ok. I would be embarrassed to call my restaurant something it's not. Will not come back ever. read more

My Chili relleno, was delicious, beef fajita enchiladas, and spinach also tasted great. They sat us in the room for my moms birthday party at no additional charge and also let us order and pay by separate checks. Service was awesome chips, salsa and drinks were never empty. I had lunch with a few coworkers. Two of them were from Elgin and they recommended Morelia. I looked them up on yelp and saw 2,5 stars. I wanted to go somewhere else but they insisted so we went. I was surprised that they have 2,5 stars after eating there. The service was quick and friendly. The food was really good. My coworker said anything that has their beef fajita meat is good so I got the El Nueve. It was delicious. The beef was tender and flavorful. The fluata had a lot of chicken which I like. I'd rather eat meat than fried greasy tortilla. The salsa is made from roasted chiles. I have never been to Morelia but they have good Mexican food. I'm glad there are options in Elgin. read more

Good but not great. Typically very fast getting your order to the table. Beans are inconsistent and black beans are too watery. The fried avocado is great. Since Cada Garcia's opened in Manor, we've trended toward them. We go to Morelia when we're being lazy. Sad, since they're really the only game in town. read more

We stopped here on our way from Austin to Houston. Really bad service do not bother stopping here. Stale chips but ok salsa. Thirteen tables were dirty and not bussed. We made the fatal error of stopping here on our way to Austin. Not only was service almost non-existent (to the point that a margarita I ordered never surfaced), but my partner's pork dish was so painfully tough and bland that we felt like we were cutting into jerky. I have sent back all of maybe 2 dishes in my life, and their shrimp dish is now my third. I'm not big on sending food back, but the amount of butter sauce pooling at the bottom of my plate was more overbearing and oily than even I could stomach. We asked our server for a small side plate at one point, and what felt like a more than unacceptable time later a different server came by with a confused look holding a to-go box asking if that's what we had asked for. I'm going to combine my last two visits in to one review which averages out to 3 stars. The first visit was a few weeks ago. The service here is always great. Really friendly people. We ordered Mexican Martinis and they were very tasty. Not too sweet, just the way I like them. We ordered the queso fameado to start. Chessy gooey goodness with fresh homemade tortillas. So good, but don't try to take some home. It does not reheat well. We spilt an order of fajitas texanas. I highly recommend this one. We had a mix of chicken and beef, and it comes topped with mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, cilantro and jalapenos. Very delicious and I rate this visit a five. Saturday night we returned. First we ordered a Mexican Martini. Obviously a different bartender. This one was way to sweet, too much syrup, not enough tequila. We ordered fajitas again, this time without any sauce. We had to ask for chips and salsa and they came just as our food came. The fajitas were on what was supposed to be a hot skillet, but was really just luke warm. The onions didn't even cook at all because the pan was not hot enough. The tortillas were coated on flour. The meat was dry and tasteless. We asked them to take it away, we would just pay for our drinks and leave. Everyone was super nice about it. I am hoping the just had an off night. This visit was a 2 star at best. I will be giving them another chance as I usually prefer the food here as opposed to the other popular place in Elgin, Hopefully the next visit will be on par with the first. read more

My friends and I read the reviews on yelp. It was a 50-50 chance. It worked out for us. . Staff was excellent. We had a great time, wonderful food, excellent margaritas and Mexican Martini.We wound up ordering the pasta out of all things! But it was EXCELLENT!Large shrimp, chicken and sun-dried tomatoes in a creamy mushroom spicy sauce. Menu is a bit pricey. My dish was $11.99 and the top shelf (large margarita) was $10.50. Came in for lunch while visiting my sister a few weeks back. We shared a fajita dish she really likes. It was good. However, she mentioned it came with jalapenos the times before and they were missing this time. The jalapenos would have been a good addition. We also tried the flautas which were yummy. There were lots of dishes on the menu I would be interested in trying but I let my sister pick what she likes for us to share since she was excited to show me this restaurant. It's nothing special. The food portions are massive and it's kinda pricey but you're in a pretty room. Unfortunately since it's mostly one big room it's really loud. So when I went with my family my grandma couldn't understand a thing. The menu is a bit overwhelming. Too many choices! There's no need for 12 different kinds of enchiladas. But it's cool that they have those naked lady sculptures outside- art is important. But the food isn't memorable. read more

Better location than previous--still "up in the air"; easier access (??)and more appealing to the eye-yes, One drawback, is that even though the prices have been increased a bit for the upgrade changes; the service has gone down a bit. It is a bit of an odd location to have the restaurant be almost attached onto some of the private homes on that street and curious how when they get quite packed; the families there have to deal with (sometimes) drunk patrons trying to drive home around their neighborhood. something to ponder on future development vs small town "flair and appeal". read more

I can honestly say this is the first Mexican restaurant I've ever suggested when asked "where do you want to eat?". Standard Mexican fare doesn't really excite me. No offense, and don't revoke my Texas Visa....but Chuy's, Z'Tejas, Curra's...they are good, but never my choice when it's my turn to pick. I've had a shrimp chimichanga, and some bites of others' dishes, and last week had the Vallarta Shrimp. The jumbo shrimp was cooked to perfection, and the combination of spices, sauces, oils, and cheeses were, in this fatty's opinion, exquisite! The service was excellent, Irma was on the ball with many tables, and it seems the crew there watches the backs of their team. Keep up the great work, Elgin Modelia!!! read more

I had been dying to try this place in Elgin. I was totally disappointed with this food. Everything was horrible. How do you mess up queso and chips?Chips tasted like they had cold grease on them. The chorizo queso was stretching,could not dip it. The ribs tasted like they were not seasoned. Just thrown on flat top with some sauce slapped on. The plus are the margaritas, and the restaurant itself is nice. I would like them to get some help from the other Owners in their chain and get the food up to speed. read more
