If I could leave a zero star review I would. We had bacon wrapped jalapeño poppers, chicken tortilla soup, chicken enchilada and, carne asada. The poppers were very obviously reheated, the soup was basically chicken broth with rotisserie chicken and tomatoes. The chicken enchilada was covered in a green sauce when I specifically asked for queso. The carne asada was not too flavorful and having to eat it with a plastic fork seemed off. The service was okay at first, then when we just wanted our tab to leave she was too busy sitting down with the other servers talking. Save your money and head to Meyer's BBQ down the road..

This place falls into the dive category but those are sometimes the best. Really friendly service...salsa had a good little kick, decent Queso and fresh chips.....As our routine goes we both went with enchiladas..beef for her chicken for me..red sauce had a good flavor along with my green sauce...beans we great and we both really like the rice. Plates were piping hot and plentiful. Definitely a solid find in the Elgin area!

Food was outstanding, and service was friendly and prompt. I got the Molcajete with chicken and beef. It was very good. It had cactus in it as well which is hard to find. My husband got the beef enchiladas. Also the sliced avocado that came with our meal was super fresh and perfectly ripened the corn tortillas were home made and they were out of this world. Strongly recommend!!

    Mocajete was great!

Nice stop in Elgin if you want good Mexican food with quick service. The queso was creamy and tasty. Guacamole was freshly made and delicious. Flautas and mocajete were good as well. The cheese filled jalapeños wrapped with bacon, as well as, the enchiladas were good too.

    Great food!

If you blink driving through Elgin you will miss this wonderful restaurant. We were definitely getting hangry on our return trip, and Yelp thankfully directed us here. Since it was late at night, they were not busy. They do have daily specials, but we went our ole faithful, enchiladas. We did start with chips and salsa. These chips are solid and allow you to scoop up their slightly spicy and rich salsa. I ordered their Tex-Mex enchiladas. These are 3 large enchiladas. I ordered one of each chicken, beef, and cheese. They arrived stuffed to the gills and covered with awesome queso. The dish comes with a generous portion of beans and Mexican rice. Taqueria Guadalajara is the real deal, and we will definitely be returning on our next road trip. I left just like my enchiladas pleasantly "stuffed to the gills"! As others have mentioned, the building has seen better days, but the food and service are superb! ,

The food: where to even start.....I hit the jackpot here. The salsa tasted like it was freshly made and served warm, so so good. I've traveled all over Texas and across the U.S., and I can say without hesitation that Las Cocinas Mexican Grill is hands-down the BEST Mexican restaurant I have ever been to -- and that includes all of Austin. My family and I come here several times a week, even though we don't live close by. That alone should tell you how incredible this place is. Must-try favorites (do NOT skip these): The Margaritas - Very strong and absolutely perfect. Order them half & half (half on the rocks, half frozen). Trust me -- you'll thank me later. Nachos Al Carbon (Appetizer) - The beef fajita meat is out of this world. Tender, flavorful, and unforgettable. Beef Fajitas Cremosas (Entrée) - Get them with EXTRA sun-dried tomatoes. Oh. My. God. I have never had anything like this in my life, and it's something I crave several times a week. Stuffed Jalapeños - So good I sometimes order them as my entire meal. And the onion rings they're served on? Easily the best onion rings I've ever had anywhere. Beyond the food, the staff is absolutely amazing. From the moment you walk in, they make you feel like family -- warm, welcoming, and genuinely happy you're there. That kind of service is rare, and it's one of the many reasons this place is so special to us. And yes -- I always forget to take pictures of my food because I eat it before I remember to take photos for a review . That should tell you everything you need to know about how good it is. We are incredibly thankful for Las Cocinas. It's not just our favorite Mexican restaurant -- it's our favorite restaurant, period, and the best in the entire area by a mile. Perfect in every way.

It's a large space, great for groups, and it's nice there is a kids menu option. We started with water all around, plus Mexican cokes and a paloma. We shared seafood tostada, chips n guacamole, wings, and chicken flautas. Everything came out hot, fresh, and nicely seasoned. We have two gluten free folks in the group and there were plenty of corn based options. The tostadas come with three and were nice and fresh, I was a little hesitant when it said mayo, but there was just a bit to get the shrimp and imitation crab to stick together. Turned out the kids loved the wings - we tried the citrus pepper and Austin amber bbq flavors. The chicken inside the flautas was tender and we enjoyed the cabbage, onion, carrot slaw to bring a fresh crunch. Definitely recommend if you're in the area.
