I was seated quickly, and my waitress was friendly and attentive right from the start. She handed me a menu and asked what I'd like to drink. Shortly after, she returned with chips and two types of salsa: a red and a green. Both had good flavor--the red had a bit more kick but wasn't overly spicy. The menu layout is a bit odd. There are no prices listed next to the items--you have to flip to the back pages to find them. My guess is this setup makes it easier for the restaurant to update prices without reprinting the whole menu. The dining area had plenty of seating, and Mexican music was playing at a volume slightly above background level, but nothing overwhelming. I had no issue with it--it added to the atmosphere. Throughout the meal, my waitress checked in on me several times, which I appreciated. I ordered the carnitas with a salad instead of rice, and opted for flour tortillas. The homemade tortillas were piping hot and delicious. The carnitas were cooked perfectly--tender and full of flavor. The refried beans were also tasty. The salad came with lettuce, bell peppers, tomato slices, and avocado slices. I expected to be charged extra for the avocado, but surprisingly, I wasn't. Food!! I ordered the albondigas and my friend ordered the camarones rancheros. My albondigas were noticeably more than a day old and we found a strand of hair in his shrimp. The worst part was he didn't see it until he was almost done eating!! That's crazy mind you my friend shaves his head and has no facial hair. So it didn't come from him. For the life of me, I cannot give this place any higher than two stars. They seems to try to squeeze every penny from the customers. They charge one dollar for using debit or credit card, $.10 for every to go containers and $5.99 for one drink. I can see this kind of outrageous charges at a high-end restaurant (like at Hollywood) but not a taqueria. I expect $5.99 soda at Disneyland or Universal Studios or even at food festival but not at a mexican restaurant. There were more cons than pros. No wonder even Google has the most 3 stars. No sweetener (sweet n low, equal, stevia, etc....). First and only restaurant that doesn't offer sweetener. We ordered ice tea and we were served sweetened tea, UGH. Also, their menu was so confusing. The prices were on the last two pages while the rest of the menu showed pictures of their food but no prices. ODD! And lastly their music in the dining room was LOUD!!!! Hubby had to ask our sever several times what she had said. The only positive part about our dining experience was their chile colorado was good and tender. They overcharge, they have hidden charges in the menu. BE VERY CAREFUL! so they have a cash price and a card price on their menu, and they say it's just how their system charges if you use card they charge you a processing fee for each item you order. I came here with my family while I was visiting from Houston. We had a party of 9 and they were able to sit us right away. They must've hired better servers who were bilingual because the server who waited on our group spoke perfect English and they checked on us several times to make sure we had everything we needed and asked us about refills. They also must've listened to the feedback regarding the music because it wasn't very loud at all. It was recently remodeled so everything seemed pretty new. I ordered their tacos de carnitas con papas and they were really tasty. They asked if I wanted shredded lettuce or cabbage on top of the tacos, which was nice. The rest of the group ordered the albóndigas, menudo, caldo de res, chorizo and eggs breakfast plate, a breakfast burrito and the enchiladas with the green chile sauce. Everyone agreed that their food was delicious. They had the biggest and most delicious homemade corn tortillas I have ever had at a restaurant. The rice and beans were also delicious.
