I loved Iron Chef as a kid. When I saw Morimoto, the famed winner had his own restaurant I was sold. Morimoto's is in the beautiful Andaz resort with an amazing pool that waterfalls into another pool. The experience walking down to the restaurant feels luxurious. The food is why you're there and it is beyond impressive. The tempura shrimp is a great appetizer with two flavors wasabi and spicy. The portion of this dish is hefty and makes it very sharable. The pork bao is tiny, but packed with pork from Snake river in Idaho. The hamachi carpaccio is a must. The fresh yellow tail tuna floats in a soy and yuzu sauce, it undeniably fresh and delicious. For the main course, we splurged to try the grilled waygu steak flown in from Japan. It was incredible, but also knowing each bite was $30 made it a once in a lifetime experience. We also shared the fish of the day with Thai flavors and some Hawaiian flair with apple bananas and mussels. I loved the experience and highly recommend dining here. read more

Solid meal at morimoto. The best part was the ambience next to the pool and the entertainment at the luau in front of it. The food was pretty good but expensive for what it is. SOLID Sushi - tai, kanpanchi, uni Spicy hamachi maki - I usually prefer rolls to maki. But this one is really good for maki. crab bao - crunchy soft shell crab. Nice execution. Shishito pepper- blistered with bonito flakes. Only one that's super spicy Edamame - not too spicy. Solid starter with yummy flavors. SO SO Pork rib - a bit heavy with strong flavor. Definitely for sharing vs. ordering individually Wagyu beef bop - the beef quality was excellent but the flavor and texture of the bop fell shot. The ginger soy sauce was good but the liquid didn't allow for a crunchy rice texture, which is a stable of an original bimbimbop. - Kanpachi crudo - didn't care for the greens on top which was superfluous. Note to anyone planning on going here, *their menu has been recently updated and it is not current on Open Table.* There is no chicken option. There are no bao buns. The chicken was literally the only reason I went, I was very disappointed and tempted to leave when I saw they removed the chicken option. I asked the server their opinion of the filet vs sea bass-they recommended the sea bass. I took one bite and I was done, too slimy & too fishy. The server came by, I told her I was done and she looked at me & left the plate. It wasn't until someone came by to fill the water a few minutes later that the plate was removed. It is in an amazing location. There is a wonderful vibe. If you love expensive steak or seafood, I'm sure you'll find something you'll like. read more

I returned from last year. Menu slightly different. Less for me to order. I found the food underwhelming. The edamame was fine, the shishito peppers were tasteless. Bland. I had an ishi yaki buri bob. Yellowtail fish with rice, pickled vegetables. The meal is served in a 500 degree hot bowl. The fish is cooked to your liking on the inside of the bowl. Very cool concept. I felt not much taste and the fish taste overtook the rest of the ingredients. The cheesecake desert was equally underwhelming. The service was excellent, the manhattan was excellent, the view excellent. I don't eat sushi so my choices were limited. An absolutely perfect meal from start to finish. We had reservations at 6:30 (a must) but arrived at 6:00. Uma, the hostess was so gracious to seat us earlier at what must've been the most perfect table in the house. Adam, our server and guide though the meal was there to help direct us at every step. We started with some delicious bubbles, watched the Maui sunset and moved to our dining experience. My wife started with the sticky ribs which were fall-off-the-bone tender. I had the best ahi nachos in Maui! Sashimi grade ahi in taco shaped wontons. Yumm. Then came the main courses. I had the chefs choice sushi which was extraordinary. My wife had the Ishi Yaki Bun Bop with wagu beef made table side and expertly prepared by Sierra.. It was close to the most perfect dish ever. They have an extensive drink, wine and sake list. If I could give 6 stars for this meal I would. I'm shocked that this restaurant doesn't have a higher rating because we had such an amazing meal here! I've dined at Morimoto's Philly location so I knew that the Maui location wouldn't disappoint. First of all, the views from their outdoor seating area are beautiful! It's located at the Andaz resort and looks out onto their beach. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and offered some great recommendations. I started with the coconut makani cocktail (if you like coconut drinks this is for you) and my husband ordered sake. For appetizers we ordered: - tuna poke tacos: perfect blend of fresh tuna, flavorful maui onion, and sliced avocado. Three tacos per order. - wagyu beef carpaccio: no words could describe how good this was. By far our favorite appetizer we tried! - the rock shrimp tempura: we loved that it came with two flavors! Perfect appetizer to share. Next we moved onto the braised black cod, hamakua mushroom side, fatty tuna sashimi, salmon sashimi, spicy salmon roll, and negihamachimaki roll. Everything was a hit! Staying at the Andaz, I booked a reservation here for our anniversary dinner. It was ok. We ordered about 5 items and they were good, but didnt blow me away. I really enjoyed the yuzu cocktail I ordered, but that was really the only highlight. BTW if you want to see the Andaz luau, consider booking a dinner reservation at Morimoto as it directly in front of the luau lawn and they have lots of outdoor seating. The biggest issue with our experience was actually service. We explained to our waiter that we are pescatarian and dont need a rundown of meat items on the menu. He proceeded to tell us that their meat items are actually great, listing each of them and its too bad we're "pescatarian or whatever" ugh. We ordered a sushi set, I explained we dont eat egg, so no tamago and I specifically dislike saba. When the sushi arrived, the busser explained the nigiri items and pointed to the saba. When the waiter came around, I pointed out the saba and he proceeded to tell me I was wrong, just because it looks like saba, smelled like saba, I was told it was saba and had the accompaniments of saba, doesnt mean it is actually saba and he named some other fish. We have been coming to Morimoto every year when we are back in Maui and have had great experiences until this time. We ordered this yakitori skewer dish and it came out with flames. Presentation was nice but not practical. With the wind, the flame was blowing towards me and had to use the chopstick to push it away from me. The sticks are made of metal so it was super hot to touch. The worst part was all the food was burnt on the side facing the flame. The server and manager came to apologize and replaced it with Seabass which was good but we had to wait around 30 minutes for the replacement dish while my partner's food was sitting on the table. Besides apologizing, nothing was offered during the long 30 minute wait for the replacement dish and when my partner had to watch me eat the seabass when it arrived. read more

We had an excellent meal at Morimoto Maui and I couldn't be more pleased with the service and the food! We had been planning this vacation for many months and we booked this table about a month out. The only dinner slot I could get was 4:15pm and it honestly worked out great! There was a smooth breeze adding to the already stunning view of the ocean and the restaurant was just beginning to get busy. Upon arriving our temperature was taken and we were told that we would have an hour and a half to finish our meal. I'm really glad to see a restaurant take health precautions and clearly communicate expectations on times. It was much appreciated. Our waiter was the the right amount of attentive and had a very friendly demeanor. For starters we got the fish carpaccio. It was absolutely delicious and the oil it was drizzled in was perfect! For our main entree, my husband and I split a chef's selection of sushi. It was beautifully presented and everything was so delicious! For desert my husband got a scoop of the butterscotch miso sorbet- INCREDIBLE! I ordered a chocolate desert comprised of aerated dark chocolate mousse, pineapple, mango sauce and homemade marshmallows. Absolutely delicious! The manager also came by the table at the end our our meal to check in on us and was very friendly and nice. Overall, I give Morimoto a solid five stars because they do everything right- There was no pretentiousness, the food and our beverages were spot-on delicious, the view is incredible, the service was attentive and knowledgeable and they take Covid-19 protocols seriously. I had lunch here last Wednesday and it was an incredible experience. I sat at the bar on the patio with an incredible view. My bar tender/ server was a gentleman named Garrett. Great service, he explained a couple different options of ways to enjoy the food experience, I went with the lunch special with wine pairing. Wow! everything I ate was amazing. The wines that they paired were very complimentary. My favorite was the first red that was a Morimoto wine. Favorite dish was honestly the sticky ribs, the A-5 Nigiri and the Wagyu Bop. Despite the recent negative reviews, I made reservation for 2 here. My husband really wanted to try Japanese A5 wagyu and Morimoto's had it on their menu. We really went for the Japanese A5 wagyu and not the sushi, but we ended up ordering sushi anyway. The service was great for us! The hostess and servers were all friendly and attentive. They were mindful of when to serve the ordered items so we can actually enjoy our meal overall. We were seated indoors by the 2 opened doors, and we caught a glimpse of the ocean and luau, but not the best view. Their outdoor seating is limited, so we didn't get to sit out. They sat larger groups outside, which is probably best during COVID-19 anyway. Groups of 2 were seated indoors, spaced out, with all doors kept opened. We ordered the hamachi poke tacos and the wagyu carpaccio for appetizers. The tacos are tiny (x3), and weren't special. We normally wouldn't order poke tacos, but first time seeing hamachi poke tacos on the menu, so decided to try. The wagyu carpaccio was good- very tender. For drinks: I had a non-alcoholic beverage of the strawberry, guava, and club soda (?) which wasn't anything special. My husband ordered red wine (pinot), which he said was light and delicious. For entrées- we ordered the sushi combo 100 vs 50 as the 100 is more appropriate for 2 persons. The sushi was actually fresh and delicious! We've had a share of really fresh and tasty sushi, and the sushi that day was exactly that! What is pictured on the menu is not accurate though... can be misleading. There are fewer items on the platter compared to the photo depicted on the menu. Nonetheless, my husband and I each got to taste the same sushi at the same time, which was nice. The Japanese A5 wagyu beef was delicious! It melts in your mouth, and was perfectly cooked. Served on a hot plate with caramelized yuzu sauce on the side. We removed the wagyu from the hot plate immediately as we did not want it to cook anymore. We ordered it medium rare (husband likes it this way). Did not dip into the caramelized yuzu sauce as we like to enjoy the meat as is, without any sauce. The marbling amd flavoring were delicious! The crust was delicious also! We definitely enjoyed it. 3oz is minimum, and we ordered 6oz total. It is $35 per oz, so yes, it is pricey, but we usually don't order such often and it was our honeymoon. So we splurged a bit. Plus, this was an authentic item. They showed us their certificate of authenticity. We did not get any dessert as none really appealed to us and we've already racked up quite a bit. The ambiance was good too. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. Our experience was much different than what the recent yelp reviews convey, but perhaps it was because we came around 430pm when thimeg weren't as busy? They definitely got more busy towards the end of our dinner. We would come here again, but not often, as the prices are more on the higher end. But overall, great experience! read more

We had a reservation at 5:15. We showed up 10 minutes early. The restaurant was virtually empty, yet the hostess kept us waiting for 15 minutes. When I approached again, asking if we could be seated, she rudely acquiesced, as if I were putting her out. The last time we visited, we dined at Morimoto 3 separate times.. it was excellent. However, we had been advised that the quality had gone down. As we were so turned off by the poor service and attitude, we did not stick around to experience the cuisine. Unfortunately it was the same selection found on many a grocery store shelf. Tuna Toro Tartare $32 (picture 2): Presentation was very 80s, with a lot of ice and minimal fish. Sushi is pretty average, nothing special with how the nigiri is prepared, with no accompaniments within the nigiri, only wasabi on the side DIY style. Service was also inconsistent, not acknowledging that this was a birthday dinner for my wife (despite marking that on the reservation), forgetting to follow-up on my wife's potato refire, and poor timing of the meals. Sticky ribs are very good but other than that I'd recommend to save your money and go somewhere else. It very much feels like a chain restaurant trying to be a fine dining establishment. Compared to other Morimoto's I've been to in Oahu and Napa, Morimoto Maui at Andaz Wailea was comparable. Trendy dining with great sushi and steak, killer views, and good people watching. The dinner views from Morimoto Maui were stunning, overlooking a golden sunset at Wailea Beach! The service however had room for major improvement as our servers kept making mistakes with the order. We waited a long time to be seated even with reservations made months in advance. If you are staying at the Andaz Maui or looking for good dining in Wailea, Morimoto Maui is a good spot overall. I loved my visit to Morimoto. I was staying at the Hotel by myself and decided to head sown for dinner with my kindle. I didn't have a reservation, but the host was able to sit me at the sushi counter, which was great, dinner and a show! My server and the sushi chefs were all super nice and very responsive. My server went through the menu with me, pointing out some of his favorites and some of the popular dishes and Chef Morimoto's signature dishes. My food was always delivered quickly and everything was nicely presented and super tasty. The ribs were of course messy, but super delicious and the dessert was quite a show, I highly recommend. Being my first visit to Maui and a big fan of Iron Chef, I made sure we checked out his restaurant. I recommend booking in advance as table can book up quickly. It's located inside Andaz Maui hotel so you can either park outside or walk in if you are staying near by. We went for lunch and sat at the outdoor terrace. We ordered the tuna tartare, hamachi tacos, pork belly, zaru soba and some nigiris. Everything was amazing as expected and you get a nice twist of japanese/island fusion. Great part of this other than the food is the gorgeous scenery and the fact you can walk down to the beach and digest. Prices are more on the higher end but you get what you pay for and I would come back again to try out his dinner menu. Overall, great experience! read more

The Otoro was nice, with a good texture and flavor, nothing I couldn't do at home with Otoro or Chutoro from Mitsuwa in San Jose. In Maui... Wailea especially the prices are the highest, and so should the service and ambiance if that's what you're charging...? The inside searing was very hot and not comfortable, the trash bin with cardboard and trash from the Shaved Ice place at the Hotel is piled up and directly in my sight line blocking the view of the landscaping and Ocean. The front of the house as you check in at the front entry to the restaurant looks like a dosorganized mess with paperwork and invoices, stapler and back office "stuff" cluttering the counter. Not what I want to see when I arrive at Morimoto's. The food was good or just average. Nothing outstanding or special. Not worth the effort for mandatory valet parking and the long walk through the Andaz hotel to the restaurant. The Soft Shell Vrab Bao was pretty good. I just can't justify the dirty menus and disorganized presentation. The ceiling is dirty as well... the presentation does not align with the price point. Again, the food was good... not great. In my opinion just not worth the effort or the money. Go somewhere else and skip this one until it is refreshed, cleaned up, or remodeled. read more

We were very lucky to be seated at an outside table that had the best view of sunset. The hotel was having a Luau so we were able to enjoy the luau music and show while enjoying dinner. Service was amazing and very attentive. We started with the Tuna Tacos and the Pork Ribs. Both were amazing and highly recommend. Next course sushi. We chose the crab roll, tuna roll, and four pieces of Toro. Crab roll was okay but the Tuna and Toro was amazing. The toro was like butter and while it comes with a price tag it's worth it. Main course we shared the table side Ishi Yaki Buri Bop and while it's what Morimoto is known for sadly it was lacking and we do not recommend it. Our vote, stick with anything fish and sushi. Amazing! We loved every bit of it! If you're not staying here it could be a bit confusing on where to go... we didn't actually know this was in a resort until we arrived. You have to walk outside down many terraces to the bottom pool level where the restaurant is. It has outdoor seating and the indoor seating still feels like you're outside. It's very bright, almost too much. But beautiful and clean. The quality of food was excellent, great presentation and fresh. We also had the Ube cheesecake which wasn't my choice but it was amazing! Our server, Spencer, was the best server we've ever had. He was kind, funny, attentive, knowledgeable, helpful, and very enthusiastic. He had a great understanding of the menu and of all its dishes, and helped guide us through the restaurant's tastiest items.
