I was visiting and attracted by the unique designs from the window display and returned the next day when they were open with a friend. I was lucky enough to be there when one of the owners was there, and she really took care of us. I miss this kind of boutique service where they know their stock and know how to put a whole outfit together. I got an outfit that works - a skirt, top, belt, long knit coat and fingerless gloves as well as an extra top. Pricey? Not more than this would cost in Nordstrom or Bloomingdales. This is quality clothing by great brands with a mix of unique labels. My friend found a shrug and an adorable, unique skirt that I know she'll get compliments on. You can get things here that people will ask - "Where did you get that?" The owner also hemmed the skirt for me while I waited - she's a genius at alterations. This is the kind of extra service you get with a place like this. This is a really special store with the same owners for decades (I read the website). I am not really into the overbearing sale staff so I don't mind being left alone. I also understand it is Burlingame where you have so many people sniffing around your store who don' t have the dough to buy can get annoying. I guess it is a balance, and on the Ave you can get the uber-push and it is a nice solace not to. Anyhow I went in this morning because my necklace broke, which I bought from them last year and I totally love it's vintage vibe. Since I am not a crafty gal, I took it in and viola I have a whole necklace again. Simple fix and they were pretty happy to do it, and I was totally dressed down slacker today. Layaway! Oh yes they do! I had to have the most beautiful full length Ivan Grundahl skirt and hooded top. The skirt alone was $1,500.00. Their layaway policy afforded me the time to pay it off without losing it to someone else or having to rack up a credit card. The Munroe sisters run a fabulous shop and are quite talented. Love this cute boutique. The ladies r great. The clothing is unique and gorgeous. The jewelry is displayed gorgeously for you to see the sparkle in the case's they have and it's a fun experience in morning glory. I did take away 1 star away due to the clothing being very very expensive. I have found pieces that were affordable and recently went in and found basically a wedding gown that I wanted to buy for "one day" it was stunning for $1,500 that's a great price and it did have a little train. But for me some stuff is ok sale and regular price will be $400-$600 for a top. But I've been coming here since my high school days and I know where to find the affordable stuff but it's hard seeing such gorgeous stuff and not being able to want to spend that kind of money on a shift. I will say though you will not find another piece of shirt on anyone else aside from Hard Tail on someone else they tend to get just one of every size in a shirt so you will be the only one that has certain pieces. The Windows in the front display age so much fun to look at! Especially around Halloween. The ladies to have an eye for putting together cute stuff :) shopped in here to pick up a few pieces before I left for the Dominican and found some lovely things. I can always find something I love in this store. I can't always afford it but the selection never disappoints me. Salespeople are kind of a hit and miss. They have the best selection of fingerless gloves. I love, love, love them! The store is owned by two sisters and one of them is the designer. The styles are all very unique and can either be very simple in design made of cashmere or they can be a fabric mix covered in buttons, straps and other ornamental appliques. Their clothes actually weren't that bad but the two women in there, acting as if we couldn't afford anything in there because we were youth and wearing normal day clothes, did not even say a word to us. One woman, the one who looked more rude, looked me in the eye and didn't say a word. She actually looked like she was glaring at me. She just went about her conversation and ignored me. Unacceptable. As someone in retail, she should have at least said a "hello" or "is there anything i can help you with?" They shouldn't work in retail if they act that way towards potential customers. I've been a customer of MG for years. The clothing, jewelry, and accessories are unique, stylish, and range from casual to formal. The critiques on here are laughable. Every time I've been in I've been greeted, but not assaulted. Now, when I say greeted - this could be a smile and a hello, an inquiry as to what I'm looking for, or maybe just a smile. I love that I'm not annoyed to death by a pesty sales person. If I wanted that, I'd go to The Gap down the street ...where I can also find racks of the same item at a discounted price. (People that rated this place low for the price and "rude sales people" - the Gap is for you). I'm not a 'rich white housewife' and I'm always welcomed in the store. Bothered by the prices? Full disclosure. I'm a guy. A dad and a husband. My very beautiful and stunning wife lives for this store! I know I can always find something beautiful and unique here and it's always an adventure for my two young boys and I to shop there. Expensive? It sure can be. Bargains and real finds. YES. If you want cheap go to Ross or Sears. The staff is wonderful. We love the gals there, the kids love hanging out and they know my wife, her stats her style better then I do. Months can go by without a trip to the store but when I go in they know instantly what to suggest. Never pushy though. Fashion as art! read more

This was a tough review for me. I love a lot of the clothes here; they have some unique stuff as well as standards such as Ann Ferriday. The dress I got married in, I got here, so there's some sentimentality as well. It IS expensive but are you going to go to Burlingame to bargain hunt? Please! There's some cool stuff and I always come back, the clothes (most of them) are the draw, NOT the sales staff. I give them ONE star, if that. I have NEVER, not ONCE, been greeted when I walk in. In fact I've never been offered assistance until I had already found something to try on. Then, once in the (small, awkward) dressing rooms, I've never had someone come back and ask me how I was doing. I'm not rude, I don't have a "crazy" vibe, I shop a lot and this is the only place I get this treatment. I don't like pushy sales people, but I don't like to be totally ignored, either. I've shopped at Morning Glory over many years--at least 12 and probably more. Since I live in San Francisco my visits to Burlingame are not that frequent. I agree that this store has unique merchandise and have purchased many jewelry and clothing items over the years. My visit today ( March 3, 2011) was nothing short of unpleasant. In the ten minutes I was in the store no one spoke to me--no greeting, no offer of assistance, no help whatsoever. Bad vibe! Business must be really good if you can afford to ignore customers. Like the others who have shopped here before, I cannot say enough good things about this place. Classic pieces with edge. If you're feeling like your wardrobe needs a boost, this is the place to go. They have such fun and funky stuff. I am able to totally spice up my work wardrobe and long for the day when I need some drool worthy one-of-a kind fancy dresses. This boutique is great. Nice selection of clothing. There is one woman in the shop who is great at selecting outfits for a person's body type. (sorry but I don't know her name. Possibly one of the owners. Long dark hair and always stylish.) One issue, not really a problem, I see when shopping in this boutique, if you don't have the entire "look", since the clothing so avant-garde... that if you don't put things together correctly, your outfit can look mismatched. Have the sales associates help with suggestions with what to put with the pieces you purchase if you have to buy from somewhere else. It can get pretty pricey if you buy all the items here at Morning Glory. If you can afford it, do it... I can't. They do alterations, but I think depending on what a person is having done, or how much a person spends, that most alterations should be complimentary. The fees aren't hugely expensive, but considering the markup on clothing, a simple hem should be free. Goodwill goes a long way! I think Nordstrom still does hemming or other alterations for free. Most of the people that work at Morning Glory are friendly and helpful... and never overbearing. They'll ask if you need help but don't follow you around or butt in every 2 seconds like at Nordstrom. Great overall! Would be really unhappy if this store disappeared, so shop often and keep these guys in business!!!! read more
