Some roads were unpaved and the ride was bumpy; nevertheless, our driver guided and warned us about the terrain. We then got off and proceeded to the bay. Took off our footwear prior to getting on the kayak that had clear bottom. When you get to the bay and paddle, it can be difficult to hear the guide and understand where he's pointing at. The water in the bay would glow with movement. The guide also talked about some constellations. Overall, this was a very well organized tour. Though it was a nice experience, I was underwhelmed. They do not recommend bringing your cell phones on the kayak and you cannot leave your belongings on the bus. Some bought and brought waterproof clear plastic casing that can be worn/hung on the neck. Bringing the electronic devices is at your own risk; some still did and tried capturing videos/pictures but it was difficult to do so unless you have a nice camera.

Very appreciative of that!! On to the experience! My guide, Tom, arrived right on time and picked me up in front of my hotel. He kindly provided me with cold water and a helmet for the ride. From there, we spent the next hour and a half perusing the streets of Old San Juan in a stylish sidecar! (So much better than sitting in a cramped, sweaty van with 15/20+ others!‍) You get to cruise the cobblestone streets with the open air/breeze in your face feeling, as well as getting unobstructed, 360 degree views- it is AMAZING! There were many historic sights to see, along the way. Tom was very knowledgeable about the history and culture of Puerto Rico- I learned quite a bit in just an hour and a half! As we zipped around Old San Juan, Tom also pointed out some cool local eateries to check out, as well as places to shop. When you reach some of the destinations, you're able to jump out, take some photos and enjoy the views. I highly recommend PR Sidecars! Check-in and liability waivers for the bioluminescent bay kayak excursion were quick and easy. The…read morelady working the check-in trailer provided great customer service. The company has you wait around for all of the other people to complete check-in for the scheduled time-slot. Everyone gets loaded onto a van to be shuttled out to the bioluminescent bay on a very bumpy road. The shuttle driver didn't really speak to anyone on the trip. There are no bathrooms at the check-in trailer and didn't appear to be any once you get to the bay. It is best to bring one of those waterproof phone protectors and clothes that you do not mind getting wet. As soon as you are out of the van they give you a life vest and kayak oar and start having everyone line up in pairs to wade in knee deep water and get seated in a clear kayak. Once on the clear kayak you get assigned a group guide with a glow-stick that introduces themselves to follow into the darkness on the water to various points. The guide will provide a brief history of the bay and astronomy. The bio bay itself is super cool to see in-person and it is best to go when it is completely dark. After about 30-45 minutes on the water you head back to the shuttle van for the return trip.
