a plate of food and a bowl of salad

The things I liked about this place is that it sits at a prime location at the heart of downtown Kingston just across Kingston City Hall. The restaurant has that homey, traditional charm. I may be mistaken, but I believe the owner, the owner's wife and son, were very hands-on and involved in the operation and they were visible working during the time we dined there the morning after Canada Day. What was a little dissapointing was that the bill came up higher than desired. Our table of 5 people's bill amounted to around $95. With some tip it came to around $20+ per person. I would have hoped to be spending only around $10+ for a breakfast meal. The food was typicall breakfast fare. The order of Egg's Benedict looked great, but the rest of the order was how you would expect it. I ordered some salad with thousand island dressing because why not? We are situated along the area near Thousand Islands. The salad was plain. I would rank it average to below average of all the salads I have ordered. It may or may not just be me and how I was feeling at the time, but I did not get to finish the salad. I had it for take away after we finished dining there.

Amazing restaurant. Service is amazing, our server was so friendly and quick to bring us anything we needed. Food arrived within minutes and coffee was always refilled. Perfect spot for a cheap, quick, greasy breakfast. Could not recommend more for a nice start to the day

Pretty standard breakfast place with great food and fast service! Food is pretty cheap too! Also conveniently located right outside the Kingston market if you're looking for a post breakfast activity!

This place has been around forever, yet nothing about this restaurant is stellar. Breakfast here is extremely lackluster, as is the service. You literally come to a homestyle diner for those two things: great food and caring service. However, the waitresses could not care less that you're there, and the food is cold and nothing special at all. The only good thing about it is that it's a large restaurant, so if all of the good local places in Kingston are busy, you can get in here.

Greasy spoon diner, exactly as expected. 2 eggs over easy was quite nice. Props too for the not overly greasy home fries.

    Review Highlights - Morrison's Restaurant

I've only had breakfast here before, and they have basically zero fully-vegan options, but the meals are greasy spoon classics and are inexpensive and served quickly.

Service was pretty attentive and our waitress was phenomenal and really upbeat and sweet. They were on it with the refills too. I really thought the kids would love their food, but they just picked at it during the dinner. What kid says no to waffle fries and a hot dog? Apparently the hot dog looked to juicy? lol. My french fry loving son, had no issues with his fries but skipped the chicken nuggets. My poor husband had to polish off whatever was not eaten by our kids after he ate his burger and poutine. I had the plantbased burger and I had no complaints. I will say their pickles are really great on the burger and loved their house sauce that came on it as well. Their fries are on the meatier side and I only ate a couple and passed the rest on to the kids, since the burger was pretty filling on its own. They had toy story playing on the tv in the restaurant. Super cute. It was pretty pricey coming to around $100 after everything was paid out. I'd probably come back for some apps and small bites in the future when visiting in town.

Music is noticeable but not overpowering, supplementing the many conversations going on around us. Wait staff were on the ball and just generally really nice people! Lots of mix and match burger options, including chicken and vegan proteins. You select your burger, protein, type of bun including gluten free, and any customizations. The waitress pointed out one element on the burger I wanted on a GF bun would have gluten and suggested removing it, which I appreciated. Lots of drink options too. This is, overall, a 'something for everyone' experience.

So we pulled up and ordered the chili, and while we were at it, hubby surprised me with a smoked meat sandwich. This was a big beef day for us! The smoked meat was served with mustard on rye bread. The sandwich was overloaded with delicious meat! It was great!! We shared half and half. The chili came with plain white hot dog buns as a side (yuck!), and on top of the chili was a thick layer of chunks of cheese (yum!!). The chili was thick and rich, tasty at first, but I've got to say it was too spicy for me; I couldn't finish it all! The last thing I want to mention is how the drive through works: you order at one of those boards with a menu on it, and a speaker & microphone in it. Then you pull through to a window to pay. Lastly, you pull up to another window to pick up your order. This is all built on a slight incline, do the server has to lift the food over their head to give it to you.

We were seated and given menus, but no one came by to take our order for quite a while. Eventually, the hostess came over. I mistakenly assumed she was our server, but she clarified that she wasn't and said she'd take our drink order to help out while we waited. Only part of our drink order arrived, and nothing else followed. After waiting 40 minutes without anyone taking our food order, we decided to leave. As we were walking out, the server offered to rush something to us, but by then, none of us felt like waiting any longer. It was confusing and frustrating that, with so few customers, no one was able to take our order during that entire time. We have always enjoyed the food but this visit did not work out.

The decoration around the restaurant is super creative -- the salt and pepper are inside glass lightbulbs and our water was served inside jumbo measuering cups. The portions are perfect and the burgers were delicious -- juicy and savoury. They have an option to go with whole wheat, multigrain buns with sesame which I highly recommend. Their sweet potato fries, even though they were less than the bottomles fries, came at about $2 extra but I think they are worth the extra money. Each burger dish & side also averaged out to be approximately $22. Their drinks are quite expensive though. Also no wifi for customers which was disappointing!
