That's what made them special for decades. Now a breakfast costs $18 and doesn't include toast or hashbrowns anymore. It was an average diner. The food was ok. Which I can prepare it at home but we are on vacation. Try some local stuff. We got the cheeseburger and fried egg sandwich plus the beef and barley soup. Considering Morrison's is in a prime location in one of Canada's prettiest cities...it is definitely not a good restaurant. Years ago it was a decent/good place for breakfast, but a number of owners since and it has gone downhill considerably. There are now a lot of great places in downtown Kingston that are far better. The things I liked about this place is that it sits at a prime location at the heart of downtown Kingston just across Kingston City Hall. The restaurant has that homey, traditional charm. I may be mistaken, but I believe the owner, the owner's wife and son, were very hands-on and involved in the operation and they were visible working during the time we dined there the morning after Canada Day. What was a little dissapointing was that the bill came up higher than desired. Our table of 5 people's bill amounted to around $95. With some tip it came to around $20+ per person. I would have hoped to be spending only around $10+ for a breakfast meal. The food was typicall breakfast fare. The order of Egg's Benedict looked great, but the rest of the order was how you would expect it. I ordered some salad with thousand island dressing because why not? We are situated along the area near Thousand Islands. The salad was plain. I would rank it average to below average of all the salads I have ordered. You literally come to a homestyle diner for those two things: great food and caring service. However, the waitresses could not care less that you're there, and the food is cold and nothing special at all. The first and only place in Canada that we had to give ZERO tips to justify their horrible food and service. From the outside it seems a interesting old diner to go. We should have read the comments on the Google+ maybe we will avoid this place but sadly we didn't. FOOD: I thought we were prisoners from old Fort Henry. The pork chop was a wooden one. We even broke a blunted old knife while making the first cut. The mashed photo was from a box and beans apparently either frozen or canned. Apple sauce for the pork chop is a joke - from a pack of kraft! SERVICE: That waitress was so rude! She not only dodged our request, even chatted with other waitress for over 5 mins, her colleague well noticed her we were asking for her help (with no knife we cannot have the wooden pork chop!). When she finally came back. She yelled "I have to bring somebody's food"! And put the knife on the table while looking at other direction. RUDE, very RUDE: Never think we had to ask for a coffee refill. This bit*h just took my cup and ignore the other empty one, apparently mad at the knife request. When we had to ask to fill up the other one she said: "you didn't asked" and did the same with the knife. TIPS: We could (should) create a scene right away and leave the dish on the table for her to pay. But we choose the other way with the largest impact. Not a penny for tip but this comment all be posted all over the internet - the biggest TIPS for her "good service". Don't go or want to ruin your day. read more

This review is tough because my personal food preferences are difficult to find here, but the restaurant serves a particular type of diner food for a particular crowd and I think it meets those customer needs effectively. I've only had breakfast here before, and they have basically zero fully-vegan options, but the meals are greasy spoon classics and are inexpensive and served quickly. The staff are exceptionally friendly based on my experiences and you get a real family vibe! I even heard one of the staff call one of the older servers "Ma," which was very sweet. If you're looking for an inexpensive, basic, and feel-good breakfast vibe (and aren't opposed to lactose), you'll probably enjoy this Kingston classic! read more

This place is fine if you just want some bacon and eggs, but I had to give it two stars based on a bad experience I had there. I wanted a BLT for breakfast, but I'm wary because restaurants often use Miracle Whip or some other salad dressing instead of mayonnaise. So I asked the server, who assured me it was mayo. I got my BLT; it wasn't. I complained. The cook (owner?) came out. Cook: You don't like it? Me: No, I wanted real mayonnaise. Cook: All restaurants use salad dressing. Me: No, some use mayonnaise. Cook: Well, you'd pay $10 instead of $5. Me: Well, I wanted mayonnaise, which is why I specifically asked about it before I ordered it. Cook: Well, get something else. Then as he walked away he took my plate and tossed it angrily into the bussing bin, causing a loud clatter. Charm! Restaurants can use salad dressing if they want to. It's an old classic restaurant. We came here for breakfast because it pretty much is the only place that's opened at 7am. The server was really nice and the food came quick. The food is super cheap as well, but if you are looking for good food, I wouldn't suggest coming here. It's a bit rugged for me. I got toast and egg. Well I got toast and egg.... I can probably make this myself and it would taste better. Note: You pay at the front cash.... we ended up putting money on the table and the owner chased us down and said "Where's my money?!?!" Worst experience ever! Pulled a hair ball out of my coffee like I was pulling out a tea bag. The doe-eyed waitress gave us a half-assed apology and a full bill. The owner told us that it happens; " We todook the coffee off, so Merry Christmas". Being the only visible minority in the place I felt targeted and disrespected as I shouldn't have to approach you to validate that the situation was unacceptable and that you should find some way to not make me want to barf up your mediocre food after this disguising experience. 10 years ago I and my dad accidentally went early for a haircut and as a result, we went to this restaurant for breakfast. I've never been to the restaurant before but it has always seen its a beautiful amazing neon sign. The food was delicious it was your classic diner breakfast. The hashbrowns were amazing and the bacon was extremely crispy, the eggs were also delicious. Morrison's could be so much more. It's got all that history and it's location can't be beat if you're staying or living downtown. Too bad the food is awful here. From-concentrate juices. Processed-quality cheese in the omelettes. The potato hash that's been sitting so that when it's served it is cold. Even if it were heated it would have no flavor. Coffee is so shitty it's a joke. Figure out how to serve flavorful, fresh food and this place would be packed. read more

This is the worst Restaurant in downtown Kingston!! Horrible Service and very rude and unfriendly staff!! The food was nasty and very greasy unhealthy!! They don't accept credit Cards!! Absolutely Horrid..we asked for water with lemon and got a dirty glass with water and the lemon still had the sticker on it. We ordered fish and chips . Chicken fingers hot hamburger and a Greek omĺett. The burger was so rough you could drive nails the eggs were burnt and the chicken tasted like the fish. Our complaint to the waitress brought giggles from other patrons like oh boy here we go. And out comes the Chef dirty apron and all with excuses for everything " of course the chicken tastes like fish it's cooked in the same oil. " the health inspector requires I cook all meat well done ...the fries do not get crisp. I don't know how people recommended this place to me when I first went to Queen's a few years back. I think that suggesting this place is some sort of hazing ritual or practical joke you pull on newcomers. There are better options for a greasy spoon breakfast in Kingston. The town is home to the Royal Military College and Queen's University. Restaurants near Queen's are geared towards college-aged binge drinkers and their greasy hang-over killer breakfasts. I was dumb and came here for lunch. It was probably a decision induced by a hangover. I made the mistake of ordering chicken at this place. Sesame chicken. It appeared like a boiled chicken breast, with sort-of-adhered sesame seeds sprinkled atop. I took a couple of bites to figure out that, yeah, I guess seasoning is optional. I sent it back and mentioned it was tasteless, bland, and what are you thinking? As I paid the bill at the register by the front, the cashier remarked to me that he tried my chicken. "What?" I said. "Yeah," he looked into my eyes, "it wasn't too bad." I paid my bill and left. read more

This is a piece of Kingston memories for many. Unfortunately it is starting to look like it. The prices aren't as good as they were in the past. This is more than made up for by the fact that they have reliable "greasy spoon" food. My wife and I ordered two sandwiches for lunch. I requested to upgrade to sweet potato fries instead of regular fries, and the server said yes. When she brought out our order my plate had poutine instead of sweet potato fries. When I pointed out the error she said she heard "poutine" when I ordered, and that they don't serve sweet potato fries. I requested a salad as a substitution (because I don't like poutine) and was told no. I also asked if I would still be charged the extra $3.75 upgrade fee and was told yes, and that there would be no negotiation on that despite the error. She brought us the bill for the full amount, even though we didn't eat the poutine. When I asked for the manager he brought a menu and said "where do you see sweet potato fries?". He said he would not remove the extra charge, and rang up our bill telling us "it's not the server's fault." We understand that miscommunication and mistakes happen. We were most upset by the "customer service" we received from the server and manager which was extremely rude. In the end, we had to pay an extra $3.75 for routine we didn't order and didn't eat. Located at 381 King Street, right behind the Farmer's Market and City Hall, is a Kingston breakfast staple: Morrison's. They are open 7 days a week, starting as early as 6am (8 on Sunday) and serve up no nonsense diner fare at rock bottom prices (chances are you can pay for your whole meal with a pile full of change). The decor is lacklucker and they make no bones about serving up your grease with a side of attitude, but on a cold winter day their eggs, ham, pancake, and french toast meal always hit the spot. The breakfast food is okay at best. (With the except of the potatoes, which literally look like microwaved vomit). The prices are decent and won't break the bank if you feel like going out for breakfast every now and then. The servers are absolutely the worst. Sometimes they'll just ignore you when you try to call them over, even if they don't have anything to do. The owner has a habit of welcoming in homeless customers with a known tendency towards violence. There are children in this place and it's just sometimes not safe to bring in a seriously unstable man that may start approaching you or other guests asking for money. Not a comfortable experience. I sympathize for the homeless but I have to draw the line somewhere. read more

Terrible food. I ordered a grill cheese and bacon sandwhich on white. It came on. Down with a Kraft single and one and a half slices of over cooked bacon. Had to leave a review after seeing these reviews on google. My friends and I love this place! The food is good, quick to be served and reasonably priced. It may not be the fanciest, but it's a relaxing and charming environment, the classic family diner feel.
