Just moved from a two bedroom apartment in Hoboken to a house in south jersey over the past weekend on a snow day. The movers are sooo great. They are friendly and professional. They move really fast and the totally moving time is only 6 hours when the original estimate was about 9 hours. The snow had no impact on the moving at all. They protected all my furniture and no damage to any of my items. My husband and I are extremely happy with their work. Ralph is such a great business guy. He come to my place for the initial estimate. He is funny and charming. Give me a lot good information about moving industry and his company. Also, Morrissey's prices is much lower than the other moving companies I called in Hoboken and Jersey City area. Helen is my main contact person. She is nice and professional. And have good memories over name and voice. When i called her to confirm my moving date, she recognized my voice and called out my name right away. Was called four times by Helen the day before being told "Christy, we can't move you tomorrow." I kindly told her each time that she must have the wrong number. After answering four calls, I let her go to voicemail. Very nice lady, but hard to talk to. The movers were actually early, which was great, however, only one of the guys, Cory, really seemed to be working. Shout out to him for great service. I just wish the other two had been as conscious of time. Was told I would get four guys but only ended up with three. All in all, I was satisfied with the move. Morrissey's was great. Stacey and the boys were awesome. They showed up two hours after the estimated time, but we had booked last minute and had told them we are OK with whenever they are done with the previous job. We made it clear we were not on a tight time schedule, and were grateful they accommodated us on short notice. Once they arrived they were friendly and hardworking, and true professionals. They quickly wrapped up large furniture and hauled away heavy boxes with smiles and banter. Moving into a 6th floor walk-up in Manhattan was only possibly with their help - I have never seen a man carry a large lazyboy on his back up so many flights - and then joke about it. They were quick, efficient, and insisted on doing the job the correct way. I helped carry some lighter things, but only because I didn't want to sit idle - they did not anticipate or ask for my help. The entire trip - from packing up in Hoboken to unloading in Manhattan - took 2.5 hours and about $350. (Including finding time for parking!) Well worth it, especially in muggy weather. I reached out to Helen at Morrissey's Moving Co. after a recommendation from my sister who had recently moved with them. The prices are the best we found in Hoboken and the movers were professional, on time and beyond efficient, even with freezing temperatures and more than a foot of snow on the streets in both our old and new apartment parking spots. They took great care of our fragile items and quickly re-assembled all furniture that needed any breaking down to move. Also loved that the movers asked us which room to put each box/piece of furniture in as they entered our new space instead of leaving everything in the kitchen/living room for us to figure out later. Not only did they have the best rates out of the other Hoboken moving companies I contacted but they showed up at 8am on the dot as promised and were extremely quick but careful during the move. So the bottom line is I will never use Morrissey's again. On a positive note, the moving day itself went great. The team of movers was super friendly and very efficient. Everything appeared to go great. Then we unpacked a piece of furniture and noticed some damage to the glass top. Again, fairly positively, they offered to try and fix it/replace which they did, but with a totally different piece of glass so it looked pretty odd. So we asked if we could claim on the insurance and were denied. We were offered $145 and told they didn't need to do that as they'd fixed the piece!! And to top it off, when it was delivered back to us, the guy stomped all over our cable box and broke that too! So 5/5 for initial movers. 0/5 for customer service from the owner. read more

I am writing a second review as Yelp withdrew my original one on unfair grounds. I'd also like to preface this by saying that Morrissey has contacted me twice asking me to remove my original review or alter it to present it in a more favorable light. I never replied because Yelp should be an open uncensored forum of honesty. Why should I remove the truth? Also, if you note I am not the only negative review here. If Yelp feels otherwise they should say it here, and not discreetly remove my original posting at the business owner's request. They removed my review because they said it contained second hand information. I don't know how an event that happened to both my wife and I was second-hand. Maybe I shouldn't have quoted my wife. I had forgotten about all of this until Ralph Morrissey began badgering me. Long story short, we hired movers in 2011 to move a 1-bedroom apartment within Hoboken. I tipped the men fairly. The job was 3 hours with an elevator. No packing necessary. Just move boxes and furniture. The largest man of the group shook us down for a larger tip. He said we were being cheap and he didn't leave until we paid more. I called Morrissey's Moving and complained. They refunded $20 of tip money. I had to live in fear knowing these men knew where I lived. I moved out of Hoboken since, never used them again and wouldn't recommend them. Again, I wouldn't have reposted this if Yelp and the owner didn't try to coerce me into deleting it. Booked these guys after long and careful consideration, they were expensive but had some great reviews. Unfortunately this wont be one of those. The guys were a bit slow making the time drag out, they also did not get temporary no parking permits for the move here in hoboken which caused an issue. They didn't break anything which was a plus. I ended up tipping the guys 25% which i thought was quite generous, only because they were pleasant and didnt break anything. 20 minutes after they left i received a knock on the door, it was one of the movers. He told me the tip I gave them was disrespectful. Last time I checked 25% was a great tip. I'm still peeved about it, will not be using these guys again. read more

These guys came recommended but man were they terrible. Unfortunately L&L was booked for the day we moved, I have used them in the past and I do actually recommend them. I unfortunately had to work the weekend of our move so my fiance was stuck doing this by herself. We called to book them for the move and they called back no less than 3 times asking what size our apartment was and when the move was and where it was. Ever hear of a pen and paper? Not to mention the lady was pretty rude to my fiance over the phone. They told us what they provide, wrapping the mattress, etc. What they DON'T tell you is they charge extra for these little extras, they save that fun bit of info for the end once they do it...sketch. The day of the move they said they'd be there around 3. They showed up after 5pm. i understand they had a move before hand but no call to say they'd be late, etc. They show up with 3 guys, one being 63 years old. I don't want to sound ageist but this guy shouldn't be moving anything for 3 and 4 story walk ups he wasn't capable of doing it plain and simple. Essentially, they brought two guys who did most of the work. They also asked my fiance to leave while they did the work which I'm not a fan of, but again I couldn't be there. We told them specifically not to move our entertainment center to our new condo and leave it on the side of the street. They didn't they brought it up, so I had to take it apart and bring it back down piece by piece, thanks fellas. It took them over 5 hours to do the move. They would not move the TV, bed, etc without wanting to charge extra. $50 to move a TV 3 blocks? I have some words for you that aren't yelp friendly. Once they got to our new condo they were talking back to my fiance and her mom as well as complaining about our stuff being to big. Hey fellas, you're movers, move that's all your paid to do not comment that we should have a smaller sofa. They also told my fiance they couldn't get the sofa into our living room....This is where I call the ultimate BS on their laziness. My 5 ft. 2in fiance was able to move our sofa into the living room by herself after they left, something these two giant dudes said they couldn't do...they couldn't do it because they were lazy. Well they finally got us moved in a little over 5 hours later and then came the bill. Well when they gave the final price my fiance said..whoa slow down that's too much and so they called the lady at the office and she itemized it...yup they were going to charge us for stuff they didn't do or move like boxes for tv's etc...sketch again. Of course we called BS on that and they removed it, but we also discovered the $25 extra for wrapping the mattress, etc. The only reason these guys got a tip is because they know where we live. Oh I also forgot to mention, they were drinking beer while doing all this. You stay classy Morrissey. Call L&L a little more money but worth every penny. Ever hear the expression, don't argue with an idiot, people may not be able to tell the difference? That's how I feel here. I won't get into a contest about this guy and his claims, they're not true and I know it, that's all that matters. His movers put my fiance in tears, that's a fact. So take that for what it's worth, I have 3 people that witnessed everything I said above, he was admittedly on vacation all summer so he has no truth to it. Two friends recommended them. Ralph came to visit and was pleasant to talk to. We decided to go with this company even though there were negative Yelp reviews. It was the only company that seemed reasonably priced, and with every hope, I wished they would be thorough and good. The guys came on time, they seem nice and cordial. Well except one guy, I'll call him Mr. Happy (grumpy from the moment he stepped into the condominium) seemed to be negative from the get go. My nature and my girlfriend's nature is to always be as helpful as we can to expedite the move. We were very organized in our packing methods and in fact, one of the guys even commented to that effect. We moved 3 blocks away from one elevator building to another elevator building. One of the things that stood out was that Mr. Happy did not want to move the plants and was adamant that they are just going to die. One of the movers interrupted him and told him that they've moved plants before, so it's okay to move them. Once again, it's only 3 blocks away and we are paying these guys to move everything. One of the biggest things I guess about this move was that It was Mr. Happy's job to make sure that everything from the closets (clothes that we have packed in black garbage bags in hangers, tightly bound) are moved. However when asked, he completely neglected and forgot to move a whole row of clothing. (and was grumpy about when asked later) We had to move it ourselves, which wasn't too much of a big deal, but the point is, we are paying them to move our things. In the end, the move went on for 6.5 hours, and most of the time, we don't know where they went. We bought them pizza, and drinks, (which Mr. Happy was glad to take the entire box and grab the drinks) gave them a good tip, until we realized: a) They took one of our step ladders (not a big deal now, but WTH) b) They forgot to move one row of clothing c) A lot of my plants were mishandled d) Our grill wasn't properly moved. e) Our brand new bar stools were scratched up. I wish they were more careful, less moody and yes, Helen was a sure fire winner in the category of damn right rude and bitchy. Seriously, I'm really sorry that that's where you ended up working and you need to keep the place and your workers in order -- but WE are the paying customers here! Especially when someone is speaking to you with respect, kindness and in a non-rude manner, why return it with such grave and bitter attitude? I refused to call the company about these grievances, because I would have to deal with someone as great as Helen. I wanted to give them this review to let other people know what our experience was. Just be forewarned. I believe we have been more than fair with our demeanor and effort during the move, and even after we realized what a crappy job they've done. The two stars are for the affordable price and the nicer attitude that we received from some of the guys. It is the cheapest in Hoboken I'm afraid. This is and I regret saying this, a good example of you-get-what-you-pay-for. (Although, what we paid them was still close to $900.) However, if you can afford the $150/hr price for your move, by all means choose another company. Here's the bottom line, if you have a few things in your apartment to move, even if you are moving to the 5th floor of a walk-up, if you only have the basic couch, table, bed, and boxes, your move will go fast and go within two hours or 3. But, we had a lot of stuff. My books alone were at least 10 boxes. If you have items you don't really care about, they are your company. If you want the cheapest, they are most affordable that we found. read more

Morrissey's Moving co was PHENOMENAL! Not only were they the cheapest quote we got in Hoboken but they were the ONLY ones willing to move our difficult treadmill which they did with ease! Jose, the team leader of the day was diligent about ensuring our brand new hardwood floors remained in perfect shape and didn't get one scratch nor did our walls. Everything was done under the 3 hour minimum limit. They put everything where we needed it. Jose, Alex and Corey were a dream team! Helen who we dealt with on the phone was also great to work with to set everything up. They were friendly and professional. Highly recommend and would 100% use again. I had received other estimates from various local companies but Morrissey's gave me the best price and didn't charge me for stupid things like "fuel" and "travel fees". Do not use Morrissey's Moving Company, unless you'd like to be taken completely advantage of. The scheduler lied to me on multiple occasions, she never seemed to the correct name written down, time or date. She also completely under quoted my move, so it ended up being way higher than she "estimated" When it came to the day of the move, they sent 3 guys, of which, one only did any work. I have moved many times and this was by far my work experience with movers. Use ANYONE else. read more

Had a great experience. Cost me about $500 to move a two-person large 1 bedroom. Everything was professionally wrapped & they sent 4 movers out for our post-Thanksgiving move. Elevator went out and they just kept on trucking (we gave them holiday cookies & treats to help). Great for an economical move. Nothing was broken. read more

These guys are real-deal professionals. Ralph Morrissey himself showed up to do the estimate--a good, honest, and very personable gent. Helen, in the office, took care of the administrative details, and was quite pleasant to work with. We had Jimmy, Victor, Jeffrey, and Cory do the move--from a 4th-floor walkup in Hoboken to an elevator building in Manhattan. The strength and efficiency of those guys is impressive as hell. They have a great, quick system, but are super-gentle and careful with belongings. Check this out: We packed some perishables from the fridge, seeing as the travel time would be under an hour; this included 10 eggs in a carton. These were packed with other food items (and some packing paper, to be fair) in a box marked "Fragile." On the Manhattan side, not one of the eggs had cracked! (This was not, by the way, an intentional "test" for the guys; it just happened that way.) A box labeled "Fragile" to them meant FRAGILE, and no boxes were tossed or kicked around. Not a single item broke during the move; only two small metal pegs for one shelf in a 12-shelved Ikea CD tower didn't make it, but we can and will get replacements easily enough. While Ralph's estimate was lower than the actual moving cost (to the tune of about $100), considering the ease and pleasantness of the move for us, it was well worth it. The guys were all really nice, gracious (we supplied plenty of drinks and offered up lunch--they chose to skip lunch and get the job done), and trustworthy with our stuff. They showed up a bit early (perfect) and got right down to work, wrapping sufficient and clean moving blankets around every piece of furniture, regardless of size, securing the blankets with tape. Moving is never easy but when you have the best movers, everything goes smooth. First let me say it all starts in the office. Helen was very helpful and professional. She was very thorough in explaining what was needed to be done for a smooth move. As for the moving team, they were very efficient, friendly and fast. They were very respectful to our belongings. We used Morrissey's for a move yesterday, and the entire process exceeded our expectations. I called many moving companies, and they had the best rate. Helen in the office was very accommodating, even when we needed to change the date of our move after scheduling. We moved from a storage unit in Hoboken to a 1 bedroom apartment also in Hoboken. They sent 4 guys (Sebastian, Jose, Tom, Joshua) who completed the move in 3 hours. They arrived early and were very careful with our belongings, wrapping all our furniture and even taking pictures to document damage in the building prior to moving our stuff in so that we wouldn't get anything deducted from our security deposit. The bill was exactly what we expected from the quote, no hidden costs. Everyone was so friendly and wonderful to work with, I highly recommend Morrissey's! read more

A few years ago, I used Morrissey's for a move and the guys did a great job. There were some hiccups along the way such as never being informed that there was a time minimum (I moved literally across the street, so I was not expecting it to take very long) but the guys were really great. When I moved again last week, I decided to hire a company that did not have a minimum number of hours required in order to cut back on costs. On the morning of the move, this company did not provide the proper insurance information and my building would not allow them to move me. I decided to call over to Morrissey's on the chance that they may have been able to help me out. I called them at about 9am and within the hour my building had all the insurance info needed- two movers showed up at my apartment after completing 2 previous jobs that day and did my whole move in about 4 hours. I am so appreciative to Morrissey's for helping me out of a very stressful situation and right at the last minute. They could not have been more helpful. Thank you! read more

CAN NOT GET PAST THE WACKO HELEN. I tried to do a move with them earlier in the year and I couldn't even get them over for a quote. She would give a time slot and no one showed. A second time, for a 5-6 time slot and at 3:00 she calls me at work to say "they are outside trying to give you a quote". RIGHT. Selected another company and the day before the move she calls me again to say she has guys ready for us! Fast forward to now. Tried again for something else and she interrupts, isn't clear on what they can and can't do, and can't even get the story straight on what the price would be. They've moved me from Hoboken to JC, from JC to Edison, then back to JC, then from JC to Bayonne. I recent used Morrissey's to pack move and unpack my apartment on a local move. They sent someone to estimate the work. They came and pack it up in a few hours (one bedroom) and then moved and unpacked me the next day. Other then being a few minutes late they were able to move me out and in well within the time window they outlined. The packers and movers were all professional and pleasant people. Plus they got the parking signs for the meters and were fully insured as required by my building. I would use these guys again for another local move. read more

Morrissey's Moving Company recently moved my roommate and I from Hoboken, NJ to our new duplex in Astoria, Queens. Ralph Morrissey, the owner, came to our Hoboken apartment to give a fair and reasonable evaluation of the cost. He was very professional with years in the business so we ultimately chose to use his moving company over a ton of other options in the NJ/NY area. In the weeks leading up to our move, I was in constant contact with the company's office manager Helen who was super responsive, thorough, and friendly whenever I would call or email. I can't explain how much I appreciated how prompt her responses were to all my questions. She and Ralph eased my nerves about the whole move by taking the time to tell me about other moving jobs they've done in the area. On the day of the move, the moving truck came at the crack of dawn as requested so that we could get through Manhattan early in the morning before traffic started to pile up. The movers' level of professionalism and care for all our stuff was impeccable. They took the time to ask us which boxes the truck was moving and what furniture needed to be wrapped. Once given this instruction, they went straight to work and were all business within the hour and 15 minutes it took them to pack our 2-bedroom apartment. We arrived in Astoria and they unloaded the truck in about 1.5hr while helping move stuff from our personal cars, as well. Both movers were fantastic and hard working the entire time-- shout out to Jose (request him by name, if you get the chance!) During such a stressful time like moving, Morrissey's Moving Company made the move seem effortless and was the best decision I made. We priced out a few movers and went with Morrissey based on price and Ralph who came to give us the estimate. He was nice and upfront. Dealing with Helen in the office was great too. She was nice and did everything I asked, got the no parking signs, offered to call the city if someone was parked there etc. The movers came and despite the rain/snow they did a great job. They were quick, friendly, and did a great job. They ended coming in under budget unheard of! I would use Morrissey if i ever moved again! I still hate moving but they made it a better experience. Called them to see if they do national moves, they seemed really confused by my question about moving from NY to CA... I finally spoke to a manager who said that they can do it but it was an outrageous amount. I almost paid it just because the manager was so polite and courteous! My experience with Morrissey Movers was really unfortunate and disappointing. First off like many people mentioned, timeliness is not their strong suit. Although they did make it in their window of time, they really waited right until the end of it. They said they had been driving around looking for parking, but they didn't bother calling and saying they were there and having parking issues. I get it, it's Hoboken, but if they contacted me I could have helped them with the building and their parking rules for moving vans and we could have gotten the process started. Next on the issue of timeliness, I moved 1 bedroom. Not a living room with couches and entertainment unit's ect. They took OVER 5 HOURS TO DO THIS. That is completely unacceptable, and I can only imagine how long it would have taken if I had more stuff like most people do. There were 3 men, I don't know how it ended up taking that long. Next let's talk about the actual moving part. One of the guys asked if the baby stroller outside in the hall was mine. I said no it was my neighbors. They proceeded to ignore that and took it apart, piece by piece and packed it. I only knew because my neighbors came by asking where their stroller went. Talk about embarrassing. Might I mention that I am young, did not have any sign of a significant other with me, and oh yeah, there was NO BABY IN SIGHT THE WHOLE TIME. Why would this be my baby stroller? Common sense. Than when they moved things into my new apartment, they broke a lamp and seriously scratched up my bed frame. I called the mover out on the broken lamp when he was handling the receipt for the whole thing, and his response was "you can put it back together." Could it be propped up against the wall not to fall apart? Sure, but that's not putting it back together and having a functioning lamp like I had when the day started. I ended up having to throw it out. But he refused to acknowledge that anything was broken and adjust the price at all. Then one of the movers was cut himself while moving and got blood on my freshly painted walls in my room. Accidents happen, but he didn't even apologize for it, he just said "thanks for cleaning it up." The night was almost thankfully over and two of the movers went missing. I went outside to see them sitting there and asked if they were done with stuff in the truck, because the 3rd mover was the only one upstairs attempting to put a very heavy bedframe together. They said "yes" so I politely asked "oh so all that's left if for the bedframe to be put together." They said "yes" but made no attempt to actually go help him. So that process took additional time (and I'm assuming where some of the scratches came from). All in all, it was a horrible experience. I would have expected the benefit of an experience like that would be that it would be cheaper or would get some sort of discount for the numerous problems we encountered, but it appears that you don't even get that benefit. I would never get them as movers again and would seriously caution anyone from hiring them. It was incredibly unprofessional and a very draining experience. read more

I used this comapany in the past and was very pleased, when I originally moved out of Bayonne. So I had to move again, and started calling movers I was a nightmare.Prices given were outragious No phone calls returned. One company told me it was a 10 hour job wanted cash up front when arrived I told them what if I pay you in advance and it isn't 10 hours what if its 8 will you refund back, Or what if I pay you inadvance how do I know you wont up the price at destination? The man said I am an honest man with an face. Sorry, that made me feel so uneasy. Besides The man laughed oh it will be 10 hrs plus travel time.I kept saying to my self why could Morrissey"s be in Essex County. IDK why I didn't call them 1st? Maybe I was afraid I was a complete ass. So my research on yelp, showed me Morrissey's had an office in Essex County.It was a miracle. I called Helen as soon as I saw they serviced Essex County.As ususal Helen was pleasent, knowlegable I was so at ease, I knew my possessions were in good hands from the last move.. Helen said how much it was per hour with 4 guys it should by an 7/8 hour job plus travel time ( FYI- which were the lowest price per hour I had recieved from their competition) I booked then with out a second thought. Helen emaied me to confirm, told me the guys would be there 9:30/10:00am on the day of the move. They were. at my door step 9:25 am. READY TO WORK!!!!! Strong,polite very professional They disassembled, moved, packed then unloaded, reassembled unpacked my possessions with such speed and accuracy I can't stress enough on how well they were.. The care given to my possessions was if they were moving their own mothers possesions. TOP NOTCH!!!! and I'm not just saying it . It's true such a smooth move!!!! So after the last item was in my new place it was time to pay, I was so pleasantly surprised. The moving bill was under the estimate I was so happy!!!!!! Morrissey"s made a stressful time as less stressful as possible I always recommended Morrissey's before, and I will continue to do so again the future!!!! I used these guys to move from downtown to uptown and I was extremely pleased. They all worked hard (two of the four of them particularly so) and finished in under the minimum time. I especially appreciated that when they arrived at my former home there was a car parked where they needed to get their truck (yes, I had purchased no-parking signs) and there was no question that I wouldn't be charged until the move began. I am absolutely NOT using Morrisey for my move!!!! I made an appointment last week with Helen for a representative to come at 3pm today to give me an estimate, I called yesterday afternoon to confirm with Helen (she confirmed the appointment) and she just called me to tell me that he's not coming. An hour before my appointment time. Apparently he's not in JC today, she has no idea when he will be to reschedule the appointment and when I asked if she'd call me when she finds out her response was "yeah, sure". If I can't trust them to show up to give me an estimate how in the world can I trust them for my move?!? read more

**DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE. READ THIS STORY ASAP** **LOST MOST IMPORTANT BOXES AND SPIT IN OUR FACES The only reason there is one star is because I had to choose something. I don't know where to begin. I will try and keep this as short as possible because it could go on forever. You'll read the below reviews regarding Helen.. I am shocked she has a job because her communication skills are extremely poor, you might as well be speaking to someone in a different language. We moved from NYC to Hoboken. We had no furniture, just a bunch of boxes. We wanted to make this move as easy as possible for the movers and make it as efficient as possible. The guys were good (so we thought) because even though they were extremely late they got the boxes onto the truck. My boyfriend sat with the boxes the entire time as they loaded the truck. Once we arrived in Hoboken, my boyfriend and i stayed in the apartment to ensure they put the boxes in the right places. Once they were done I looked around and asked them if there were more boxes because i was almost positive there were. they said the truck was empty so i made the stupid mistake of trusting their word. I tipped them 160 bucks for three even though one guy sat in the truck the entire time. whatever. A few days later as I'm unpacking I realize more and more whats missing. EXPENSIVE stuff. at least 4 giant boxes with both valuable and sentimental items. I panicked and of course the first thing i do is try to reach out to helen. That obviously took some time for her to understand what we needed. I explained that i wanted to speak to the movers to see if perhaps they had misplaced the boxes along the way so i could retrace their steps, and also i wanted to speak to the owner to see if he could check the warehouse when the trucks returned. long story short, the owner called me back (one week later) and I started to explain what had happen. THIS IS WHERE I HAVE NEVER BEEN MORE SHOCKED IN MY ENTIRE LIFE and how POORLY the OWNER of a company spoke to one of their customers. He was an absolute JERK to me right from the start. He was interrupting me, yelling, and being flat out rude. I have no idea why he was like this, I am still in shock. All i was trying to do was explain to him the course of events and see if he could both check the warehouse and perhaps have his guys call me so we could retrace the steps. He was actually MOCKING me saying they didnt want our boxes. WHAT WAS EXTREMELY STRANGE, was that right from the beginning he was on the defense like i was accusing them of STEALING. when i realized this was what he was trying to defend i explained to him that i didnt think they stole the items, i just wanted to retrace the steps because i needed help locating them. In summary, he was RUDE, YELLING, MOCKING, OFFENSIVE to the point where I had to hang up the phone. I've never in my life encountered an owner of a company with such lack of knowledge on customer service and just flat out decency. You would think this guy would have SOME compassion after i explained to him how important these items were to me. i was sickened by him. not once was there a simple "i apologize mam, lets see what we can do to try and locate those boxes". ANYTHING LIKE THAT would have sufficed. Now unfortunately we will be heading to court. She'll call you 20 min after the movers are supposed to show up and tell you they are on their way..... an hour later you'll call back and she'll say they just left 5 min ago..... an hour later you'll still be waiting. I was told the truck was coming from Jersey City to Hoboken (should only take 20 min max) and 2.5 hours later they FINALLY show up. The movers told me that was typical Helen behavior and that they weren't even called to do the job until later that same morning. Totally unprofessional and a big waste of money and time. They definitely do not make moving day any less stressful than it always is. Please do not use these people!! read more

Movers came on time and were extremely helpful and accommodating. However, was advised that everything was off the truck as they got ready to leave. After the ordeal of moving was over and began to unpack, I noticed 2 boxes of rare photography books approximately $7500 at cost were missing. Contacted them by email and telephone. Never received a response. If you decide to use them, beware or make sure you count and check off every item before they depart. read more

I used Morrissey's Moving Company and Storage today for the second time in 4 years. Here's my experience: They were a half hour late for the Sunday morning move but after that, almost everything was fine. As requested I had a crew of 4 costing $135 per hour including "Allen," the driver. They were respectful to me, my house, and my belongings and there was no standing around. They protected almost everything before moving the pieces. I did find a few scratches on a bookshelf and some dirt on a couch from the inside of the truck (both of which were not covered and wrapped for some reason) but overall I am satisfied. I deducted a star because of their lateness, the 2 pieces with obvious scratches and dirt (hopefully the back of the couch dirt will come off) and this: after the move I started to hand out $20 bills as a tip for the 3 hour move (including the 40 minute drive) and one guy was obviously not happy with it. He started talking about how hard they worked etc., etc., (which was correct). They refused my offer of a pizza lunch which would have cost me $50 anyway so I gave them another $10 each and told them I wish I could give them a lot more. That's a $10 tip for each mover, for each hour worked. It should be noted I made 2 trips the day before packing my car with the light stuff and valuables I didn't want anyone touching. and today, the morning of the move I loaded up my couch cushions before they got there (I didn't want their sweat all over them because it's a sticky, humid day). I don't own much so that kept my cost down but always ask about extras. For example, tape ($3.50 per roll), mattress and box spring covers ($12.50 per), a gas surcharge of $30 (although this may have included the Bayonne Bridge toll also). You can also ask for an estimate when you set up your move, most places will give you one but keep in mind they can only estimate based on the accuracy of the information you provide. My friend recommend me Morrissey's Moving Company when I was looking for movers to help me move from Hoboken to Downtown Jersey City. (You'll see her 5 star rating on here as well from Chrissy M). I researched and called a few other movers to compare and they all wanted to come over, look at the apartment and give me an estimate, which was understandable. Ralph (the owner of Morrissey's Moving company) was the ONLY one that would come after 9pm when I got back from work on a weekday. That I absolutely appreciated because I work long hours and just started a new job and didn't want to take off. The estimate went fine at first with Ralph but I didn't like his overall attitude. I told him my friend referred me and he gave her this pricing and I asked him simply why would I get a different pricing when I'm 1 person (she had 2 people and 2 bedrooms and she moved from Hoboken to Astoria!) and his response was that was her pricing and this was mine (clearly annoyed with me for even bringing it up). Everyone should get the same pricing! That gave me a really bad taste in my mouth. After talking to my friend and telling her what happened, she convinced me that I should just give them a shot so the next day I told the business manager to book my move. I didn't really like Ralph or his attitude around pricing but I was going to overlook it and pray that my movers were not like him. The reason why I gave 5 stars really goes to Helen (the business manager) and the 4 movers that came. Helen got my permits and even went out of the way to put them up for me! She went above and beyond when it was my job to do it. She even helped call Jersey City parking authority when someone was illegally park in front of my no parking signs (my permits). She stayed on top of them until that car was towed. It's nice that I don't have to deal with these things! Then the moving day came, the movers came on time, greeted me and assured me that they'll get this done as quick as possible and painless as possible. Then straight to work they go! They were quick and careful, no one just sat around or slowly moved. They hustled up and down 2 flights of stairs with all my bins and furniture. They were even faster moving into my next apartment! They wasted no time at all. They even took apart my bed (which is one of those beds with 6 drawers and weigh 200 lbs) and put it back together in my new apartment. Overall, the movers made my move much more enjoyable when I dreaded moving day. Thank you Jose and team for all your hard work, I really appreciate it!
