Super Bowl 2015, I was at the Maryland Live Casino in Hanover, Maryland. I noticed a new restaurant called Morty's Delicatessen. I ordered a heated lean corned beef sandwich with melted provolone cheese on Jewish rye with mustard. Simple right? Wrong! I got the sandwich home and the bread was so stale. I mean fall apart with hard crunchy edges. OMG! I thought the corned beef looked decent but it started falling apart into little tiny pieces when I tried to pick it up. It was extremely dry and had no taste! I love corned beef, normally if it's not Attmans in Baltimore, I don't eat it. I gave Morty's a try and for that $13. 00 I believe that Morty's should go back to where ever they came from. They don't belong here in Maryland. I called to speak with a Manager. I was told there was no manager and they ended up hanging up on me. They must don't know that you can't fool us here in Maryland when it comes to corned beef and crab cakes. I give them a big fat F! There are too many other places to eat around the casino and mall to pay a lot of money to eat crap! read more

I was not impressed. SO Slow! A friend and I got the pastrami sandwich combo to split. The sandwich took over 15 minutes.. when it came out the bread was soggy.. not freshly roasted. I asked for sauerkraut on the side.. nope, it came on the sandwich. The soda I got out of the fountain was just co2.. no syrup. I normally REALLY enjoyed my purchases from Morty's. I was quite surprised by my last visit on 6/12/19. I ordered my normal, the oversized corned beef sandwich. To my horror, when I got to my vehicle to take a bite, I noticed that much of the meat was extremely dried out. This is a sandwich that usually melts in your mouth. I tried to salvage what I could but I ended up throwing a lot of it away. This was very disappointing for a $20.00 sandwich!!!! I would have gone back to the restaurant for a replacement but I had already left the venue. Just a note: the meat was obviously dried out, specifically on the ends, based on the dark color. Ordered a hot dog and o rings. "Chef" makes the dog, leaves it out, THEN drops the rings. By the time the Rings are done the bun of the dog is saturated with steam. At least it was warm because I HAD TO ASK THEM TO PUT THE DOG UNDER A HEAT LAMP. read more

Your options for food at night are very limited at the casino, but this place is the worst. I have been to some of the busiest delis in this country, and none of them hands you your order 40 minutes after taking it. The employees uniforms are to small, one of them has the crack of her ass out while preparing your food, the sandwich I ordered taste like free flea market grub and is over priced for what you actually get. In short I could not even give this place one star. If you plan to be at Maryland Live Casino after 12am, take my advice- go old school and pack a sandwich that your two year old could make with their playdoo set. Reviewing for breakfast only: great greasy breakfast sandwiches. Egg and cheese on your choice of bread (bagels included!) Service was quick although I can see how it might be slow if there was a crowd. They've only been open a few weeks so they're still working out the kinks. Since it was my first time, I also grabbed a piece of red velvet cake. It was enough to share and was fresh and moist. Will be getting that again. Note about prices: This place is inside a casino and accepts comps. I wouldn't walk in here from the mall and pay cash but it's light years ahead of the Phillips next door in terms of breakfast quality. The Phillips rise'n shine was my old default. For almost the same price ($7 for egg and cheese, add $2 for bacon) you can have a hot sandwich made fresh. Red velvet was $4.50 a slice and worth it. They also have a great deli selection of bottled soda (Stewart's and Dr. Browns!) but sadly those must be consumed inside the casino and can't be hoarded like bottled drinks from the gift shop. read more

My husband and I had a late night snack at Morty's on 4/27/15. I have a gluten allergy, so asked the manager, Leslie Noble about gluten free bread, he said they didn't have any but he could ask Phillips Seafood, about using one of their corn tortilla, he could improvise and make me a sandwich. Way over priced. I got a sandwich, fries, mac & cheese, and a soda: $27.50. On the plus side, it was a lot of food and did taste good. Would be worth it, if I could get what I got for around $15, but that was the price of the sandwich alone. read more

Overall the experience was just alright. The 3 different black and white tile pattern floors showed me that they weren't really concerned about the customer, but rather saving money. It made me wonder where else they are saving money. Probably on gloves because I didn't see anybody wearing any, but anyways... all I got was carrot cake. 2 pieces to be exact. Gave it a 6/10 which I know is a D but we can't just be giving out As or nobody would be a winner. Cake was "chunky" and made me and my partner feel some type of way when we were eating it. Reminded me of Christmas fruit cake. I hate the holidays. Edible, clean and not terribly crowded, which should have been our first clue. The very basis of a good sandwhich is great bread. The "Jewish Rye" was akin to Wonderbread. No substance whatsoever. A good deli rocks the pastrami. Morty's failed this test, serving up bland, greasy mystery meat. The "Russian dressing" tasted like a sweetened ketchup with mayo mixture when, combined with the very sour and little other flavor kraut, completely overpowered any chance of enjoying the supposed "authentic" deli sandwhich. And there was something that resembled cheese but I could not taste it, either. I did not hold much in the way of high hopes for a casino in Hanover, Maryland being able to come close to authentic New York-style deli food and was still disappointed with my low expectations. Even the pickles were boring. Morty's food seems to be sourced entirely from Sysco (U.S. Foods?) and depends on the dampened (liquored-up) palets of those who, sadly, have not tasted better. I must say, however, contrary to others posting poor reviews of the service, we were treated very well. The ordering process was not confusing at all. The deli is set up traditionally with the board of fare displayed upon entering and the ordering/cashier station at the opposite end of the store. The cashier was helpful and patient with us as we navigated the offerings (limited as they are). We were greeted with smiles and our server was cheerful and polite. For anyone who has ever been to Vegas or any other serious casino eatery, assuming that restaurants at these one-off neighborhood casinos would be anything other than a place to fill the hole, would be a mistake. Morty's was friendly, and clean. It was also a poor value. I would have rather left the casino, braved the below-zero temperatures and walked to Costco and had a hot dog combo. I would have been equally satisfied at a fraction of the cost and had more money to lose at the casino thus ensuring my participation in the "tax on the statistically challenged" venue that is Maryland Live! read more

Any place that has the word Deli in its name should be judged by its Reuben. Morty's Reuben is pretty much nothing more than lunchmeat that is found in any grocery store, stacked upon old bread. The Deli has a nice feel, throwback to delis of NY, but it becomes artificial when they serve the food and it seems like the Disney Deli. read more

On my last night in the area I decided to make the trek out to the Arundel Mills Mall for dinner. My hotel was about a ten minute walk from the mall. Word to the wise, the mall closes at 7pm on Sundays I did not know this and it made for an even further walk back. I was hungry and knew from experience that the best place to get food would be the casino. After spending 3 years working in the casino industry I find it fun to explore any one I come across and knew this would be the place to find some good eats! Maryland Live has your usual spread of restaurants one would find in any casino in the country. I settled upon Morty's for a few reason. First being the speed of it all. It was later in the evening and I was getting tired, and had to pack for the morning. Second the style of food in general. I'm from New Jersey a place where deli's are everywhere, and I was craving a taste of home. I knew going in that since it was casino it would not be exact in any means, but at least it would be a close to the taste as I could get. My last reason for Morty's was the price. I know casino food is overpriced out the gate. Its right up there with your sport venues and theme park food as far as price goes. So I wanted the most bang for my buck. When you first walk in the ordering is a bit of a confusing process. They have a long counter stretching all the way back to the far wall, with signage about displaying the menu, which really doesn't tell you much on the prices of the items. You order all the way at the end of the counter, where they also have menus with the pricing on them for you. After you place your order they give you a number and you find a seat. The register would make so much more sense on the front end of the counter, and put the prices on the menu board. The core sandwiches range from $11 for your basic salad sandwich and $12 for any kind of meat sandwich, cheese cost extra. I did find something on the specialty side that was mildly priced and fit my craving that night, The Big Paul, which cost $7. "The Big Paul" consisted of an all beef hot dog wrapped in salami and covered in sauerkraut and mustard. It was packed full of flavor, but could have had more to it. It was a big dog which I was thankful for, since it came with nothing but the dog. Even with the size I wasn't quite filled, but I did happen upon a closing cookie stand in the mall who gave a lot of discounted cookies to fill the void. One of the big reasons I came here was the speed that I expected from a deli. Sadly what I got was quite the opposite. My lonely Big Paul took 25 minutes to produce in a pretty much slow restaurant with a bunch of people standing around behind the counter. In an ideal casino restaurant you don't want people sitting there waiting on food. But Morty's is a quick service , and this now wait defeated the whole purpose. Plus I cooked hot dogs before this should not have been more than a 10 minute process. And to see staff just standing there talking to each other was the most annoying thing. Over all Morty's was a disappointing experience. Even with the good tasting food the wait time and the prices don't really justify a trip back when I'm in the area. The only reason it will get the Fat kid approval is the food quality is good. Stay Peckish my friends. read more

Went in late last night after a night of drunken debauchery and semi successful gambling and asked a young man and woman working behind the counter their collective opinion on what was the most desired delicacy and was unanimously encouraged to try the chicken salad which i quickly chose. However after receiving what was indeed a delicious sandwich it was the kind and generous attention of a young man named Timothy(Tim) that elevated what was a normal after party grub into a act of genuine humanity. Although not a fine dining restaurant I felt like the service I received from this man was first class and wish to share my experience with other people. read more

Morty's is horrible at Maryland Live. There is no organization in the restaurant. There was one cashier that kept yawning at the register. The other cashier kept saying order up! Customers in the line didn't know where to pick up order or to place an order. I spoke with the manager and the only thing he could say is we are aware of the disorder and we have been open for three weeks. What a mess? In addition to the poor customer service, the food was terrible. I ordered a Turkey (at the club) sandwich, the bacon was extremely greasy and burned. Good food but horrible service! I walked in about 2:30 am on Friday, and there was not one customer ahead of me in front of the cashier. There was a tall male employee in front of the cashier fixing the basket full of pound cakes wrapped. I approached the cashier, and ready to order but she did not say a word. After a minute I asked if they were taking orders, and she replied without looking at me to wait (no explanations, nothing). Obviously I was really hungry but I just stood there and waited meanwhile this female cashier started to chit chat with the male employee in front of her. I waited about 5 minutes that is when after finishing talking and laughing with the other employee she said she was "ready" for me. After observing all this nonsense I simply said no thanks, and that I would be going next door to Phillips to get my food, and that is when this cashier raised her voice and loudly said "thank you, come again". I have worked in retail myself for many years, and I can tell you if one of my employees ever behaved in this manner ignoring then mocking customers would be fired on the spot. As I said the food is good but this cashier really needs some type of customer service training to learn how to professionally treat customers. Someone needs to tell this clueless cashier that without customers she has no job or paycheck! read more
